Introduction
The MSIPC54G3 Wireless 11g PCICard(hereaftercalled PC54G3),
compliantwithIEEE802.11g,isahigh-efficiencywirelessadapterfor
wirelessnetworking at home,inoffice or inpublicplaces.Thedatarate
canbe upto54 Mbpsandauto-negotiated to48,36,24,18,12,9,
6Mbps(IEEE 802.11g), or11,5.5,2, 1Mbps(IEEE802.11b).
WithPC54G3,youcanroambetweenconference roomand
officewithoutbeingdisconnectedtheLAN cables; inaddition,sharing
filesandprinterscanbe easytasks.
ThePC54G3isavailabletoMicrosoft Windowsoperatingsystems
(Windows®XP/2000/ME/98SE/XP64-bit)andcanbe integrated into
networkingwitheither Ad-hocmode (computer-to-computer, without
anAccessPoint)or Infrastructure mode (computer-to-accesspoint, an
AccessPointisrequired).

Ad-hoc Mode:AnAd-hoc networkisalocalarea networkor other small
network, especiallyonewithwirelessor temporaryplug-inconnections,
inwhichsomeof thenetworkdevices arepart of thenetworkonlyfor the
duration ofacommunicationssession.Usersinthe networkcanshare
files,printtoashared printer,andaccesstheInternetwithashared

however, users canonlycommunicatewithother wireless LANcomput-
ersthat areinthiswirelessLAN workgroup,and arewithinrange.

Infrastructure Mode: Thedifferencebetween Infrastructurenetwork
andAd-hoc networkisthat theformeroneincludes anAccessPoint. In
anInfrastructurenetwork,theAccessPointcanmanage thebandwidthto
maximize bandwidthutilization.Additionally, theAccess Pointenables
userson awirelessLAN toaccessanexisting wirednetwork, allowing
wirelessusers totake advantageof thewired networksresources, suchas
Internet, email, filetransfer, andprinter sharing. The scaleandrangeof the
Infrastructurenetworkingarelargerand widerthanthat ofthe Ad-hoc
networking.
