1Introduction
The Nortel Application Gateway delivers practical, converged voice and data applications to
users of IP telephones. The Application Gateway provides either Nortel Voice Office
Application Suite or Guest Services. The Nortel Voice Office Application Suite enables
enterprises to leverage their IP telephony investments and increase workforce productivity by
delivering converged applications to the screens and speakers of Nortel IP phones. Guest
Services displays custom advertising and information services on Nortel 2007 telephone
screens. The Application Gateway is a dedicated server and does not support the installation
of third-party software.
Note Installation of the Application Gateway requires knowledge in several overlapping
areas. The staff engineer responsible for this task must have access to resources with
strong knowledge of system administration, IP networks, IP phone and call server
configuration and operation, and LDAP directories. Customers who cannot compose a
team with this skill set should purchase Installation and Network Startup services.
Before starting the installation, please ensure that you have the necessary information:
•Go to the Nortel Partner Information Center site to access all Application Gateway
documentation. The URL is: http://www.nortel.com.Go to the Support & Training
page: Support & Training > Technical Documentation > Browse Product Support. In
box 1 of the "Easy as 1-2-3" selection boxes, choose from Select from Product Categories,
Voice & IP Communications > Applications & Gateways > Application Gateway 1000.
•Complete the Pre-Installation Checklist. The information requested on the checklist, critical
for installation success, requires the input of both telecom and data network professionals.
•Review the Application Gateway Release Notes and keep them handy during deployment.
•Review the Application Gateway Hardware Installation Guide.
Use of the Nortel Application Gateway software is subject to the NORTEL NETWORKS SOFTWARE
LICENSE and the License terms found in the Application Gateway documentation.

2Obtain a Keycode License
Keycode Licensing for your product is provided by the Nortel KRS (Keycode Retrieval
System). To use the KRS, you must first register with it. To register for a KRS account, use the
following link: http://www.nortelnetworks.com/servsup/krs/ and complete the Online
registration process. Note: Please allow up to 5 business days for your request to be processed.
Once you receive confirmation that your KRS account is enabled, you can log into the KRS
production system by using the link http://www.nortelnetworks.com/servsup/krs/. In Step
1, select the login region; in Step 2, select the product that you wish to access, that is, the
Application Gateway.
After you log in to the KRS, you will need the following information to produce your keycode
license:
•The MAC address of the server you want to license (i.e. 00:00:00:00:00:00).
•The Purchase Order # or Nortel Order # (used to locate your order, which lists the software
licensing items ordered).
Procedure
While logged in to the KRS, generate your keycode license as follows. (Note: A user guide on
KRS provides detail for each of these steps.)
1You must first register the server that you intend to license in the KRS database. This is
where you enter the server MAC address.
2After the server is registered, choose Generate Keycode License with Purchase Order
from the sidebar.
3At the prompt, enter the MAC address for which you want to produce a keycode license.
4At the prompt, enter either your Purchase Order # or Nortel Order #.
5After the KRS displays your purchase order, you can select which line items you wish to
use in producing the Keycode license. Typically this will be all line items.
6After you select the line items in step 5, the KRS displays a summary of the features
selected. If the summary is correct, click Generate Keycode License.
7The KRS produces the Keycode License, saves it in its database, and then provides you with
the option of downloading the keycode license to your computer.

3Install the Application Gateway Hardware
Note This section describes how to install the Application Gateway hardware in your
network. For upgrade instructions, refer to the Application Gateway Release Notes.
Requirements
To set up the Application Gateway, you need the following items in addition to what is
provided with the Application Gateway:
•A computer capable of hosting terminal console communication through a serial port or a
computer and an Ethernet crossover cable
•One or two network cables to connect the Application Gateway to a LAN (typically, only
one cable is needed unless the Application Gateway will straddle two networks)
Procedure
The following steps summarize the hardware installation procedure described in the
Application Gateway Hardware Installation Guide. These steps assume that you are using the serial
console to change the default IP address of the Application Gateway (10.20.30.40).
Alternatively, you can use the Web-based Administration Tool interface, by connecting a
personal computer to the Application Gateway via an Ethernet crossover cable, as described in
the Application Gateway Hardware Installation Guide.
1For the Application Gateway 1000 only, upgrade to 1 GByte of memory, install the server
in a rack (if rack-mounted), and change the boot sequence as described in the Application
Gateway Hardware Installation Guide.
For the Application Gateway 2000, install the Application Gateway in a rack (if
rack-mounted).
2Use a network cable to connect the Application Gateway LAN1 (Interface 0) port to your
network. For information on using the LAN2 (Interface 1) port, refer to the Application
Gateway Hardware Installation Guide.
3Make sure that a PC capable of hosting terminal emulation software is connected to the
Application Gateway. Connect the null-modem cable to the 9-pin serial port on the
Application Gateway and connect the cable to a computer that is capable of running
terminal emulation software.

5On the computer, start a terminal emulation application, such as HyperTerminal.
6When you create a connection using HyperTerminal, you will be prompted for Port
Settings. Set the serial connection to 9600 bits per second, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop
bit; hardware flow control is optional. (Ctrl-u deletes a line in the terminal window.)
7Insert the Application Gateway CD into the CD-ROM drive of the Application Gateway
8Press the Reset button on the Application Gateway.
After the Application Gateway restarts, the console display indicates that the reinstallation
has started. The status bar moves in large increments, so at first it might appear that the
reinstall has not started.
When the installation has completed, the serial console displays the message “Installation
successful.” If the console message is garbled, watch the lights on the server to determine
when the installation is complete.
9Eject the CD and press the Reset button on the Application Gateway.
After several minutes, the Application Gateway serial console appears on the computer
terminal.

You are now ready to configure the Application Gateway with your network.

4Configure the Application Gateway
This section describes the minimum configuration required to establish and test a connection
between your Application Gateway and another device such as a router or web server. The
Pre-Installation Checklist should include the information mentioned throughout this section.
Procedure
To configure the Application Gateway:
1In the Application Gateway serial console, enter the default login root and the default
password rootadmin.
2Type 0and press Enter to choose Express Setup.
3Enter the IP address and netmask for Interface 0 when prompted:
IP address [x.x.x.x] (Enter 0 to clear): ipAddress
Netmask [x.x.x.x] (Enter 0 to clear): netmask
The Application Gateway requires a static IP address. DHCP is not supported.
4Enter the IP address of the gateway device when prompted.
5Verify that the displayed settings are correct.
If they are correct, type ywhen asked to commit your changes and restart the server.
If they are not correct, type nwhen asked to commit your changes, then type 0(Express
Setup) to change settings.
6To test the connection, verify that the Application Gateway can ping the connected
network device: Type 1(Ping), press Enter, and enter the IP address of the device that you
want to ping.
If the ping command is successful, you have completed the initial configuration. If the ping
is not successful, check your connections, return to the serial console Main Menu, and type
0(Express Setup) to change settings as needed.
Next
Continue configuring the Application Gateway from the web-based Administration Tool. The
following steps represent a minimal configuration. For more information about configuration,
refer to the Application Gateway Administration Guide.

1From a web browser, enter:
https://AG_ipAddress:9001
ipAddress is the IP address and 9001 is the administration port.
2If a Security Alert dialog box appears, click Yes.
3Click the Network tab.
4Log in as root, and enter the root password (defaults to rootadmin).
5On the Network > Interfaces page, define the External Public Address for Interface 0. This
address is an IP address or host name that can be used for Network Address Translation
(NAT).
6Click Submit to save your changes. Although you are prompted to restart the server, you
do not need to until you have completed this procedure.
7If you use name resolution, click the DNS tab and enter the IP address for each DNS server.
Also, enter the name, if any, that you want to use as your default domain name, such as
mysite.com.
8Go to the Administration > Licenses page and upload the license files that you received.
9Go to the Administration > Users page and specify a username and password for each
Design Studio user. A password must have at least five characters. Click the Add User
button. You should also change the administrator password on this page (the Application
Gateway validates the first eight characters of an administrator password).
10 Click Submit to save your changes and then restart the server.
11 From your web browser, enter the following to check network connectivity:
http://ipAddress:httpPort
For example, the default HTTP port is 80. If the IP address of your Application Gateway is
10.20.30.40, enter http://10.20.30.40:80.
If the Application Menu or the message “Application Menu not configured” appears, the
Application Gateway is properly configured. If that menu or message does not appear,
check the settings.
