Choosea sturdytable,deskorprinterstandtoplaceyourprinteronwhenyou
fromthecarton.Removethestyrofoamsides-besuretosaveallpackingmateri
youneedtoshiptheprinteragain- andchecktheboxforthesecontents:
•ML385/386printer.
•Paperseparator.
•Powerlead.
•Platenknob(fitted).
•Ribboncartridge.
•PrinterHandbook.
Note:Interfacecableandpaperaresoldseparately.
Ifanyoftheseitemsismissingordamaged,seeyourdealerfora repiaceme

Preliminaries
Donotplugtheprinterinuntilitissetupandreadytooperate.
1.Removetheclearprotectivefilmfromthecontrolpanelandaccesscove1
2.Opentheaccesscoverandremovetheshippingretainer.Besuretosav
otherpackingmaterialsincaseyoushiptheprinter.
3.Installthepaperseparator.Opentherearcoverandpositiontheholeor
separator'slegsoverthecorrespondingstudontherearcover.Gentlyp
separatorleguntiltheholeslipsovertheotherstud.Closetherearcover

4.Theplatenknobisareadyfittedtotherightsideoftheprinter.However,ifit
foranyreason,matchtheflatsideoftheknobtotheflatsideoftheplaten

ConnectingtotheComputer

1.MakesureboththeprinterandthecomputerareOFF.
2.Plugtheinterfacecableintotheportonthebackofyourprinter.Fastenth
ontheconnectortothecableinordertoattachitsecurely.

2.Positiontheprintheadbetweenthebailrollers.Makesurethebailisclosec

3.Holdtheribboncartridgewiththebluetake-upknobfacingupandtheflater
thefrontoftheprinter.
4.Placetheflatendintotheribbonplate,thenlowerthefrontofthecartridg
printheaduntilitsnapsintoplace.
Toremovetheribbon,pullupatthepositionsindicatedbythetwoarrowsonth
cartridge.

Toactivatethisfeature,enterMenuSelectmodeandsettheFORMTEAROFF

in
theVerticalControlgroup.ThensetTopofFormasdescribedonthepre\
