You have received a product that is very versatile for everyday use at home and outdoors.
In order to exclude injuries of any type, familiarise yourself with the handling, functions and intended use of the
product before using it. These instructions for use provide you with the related necessary information.
Please note the following in particular:
• All users and/or their attendants must be trained by qualified personnel in the use of the product. In particular,
users and/or attendants must be informed of the residual risks with the aid of the safety notices in the instruc
tions for use (user).
• The product was adapted to the needs of the user. Subsequent changes may be made only by qualified per
sonnel. We recommend checking the product settings onceper year to ensure optimal treatment over the long
term. Especially for users with a changing anatomy (forexample body dimensions, weight), an adjustment at
least onceevery six months is recommended.
• Your product may differ from the models shown. In particular, not all the options described in these instruc
tions for use will be installed on your product.
• The manufacturer reserves the right to make technical changes to the model described in these instructions for
use.

The product can be used indoors and outdoors.

The safe use of the product can only be ensured in case of intended use in accordance with the information con
tained in these instructions for use. The user is ultimately responsible for accident-free operation.
3.1 Indications for use
The product is intended for everyday indoor and outdoor use, by an attendant, of children aged six months and up
with temporary or permanent limitations of the ability to walk, inability to walk or difficulty standing up.
The product is suitable for users with intact skin whose anatomy (suchas body dimensions and weight) permits the
intended use of the product. It is operated by an attendant.

The product may only be used with the options that are listed on the product order form. Ottobock assumes no
liability for combinations with medical devices and/or accessories for a medical device from other manufacturers
outside the modular system.
Combinations based on a combination agreement that have been evaluated for effectiveness and safety are an
exception to this.

4.2 Safety instructions for use
INFORMATION
The seating unit is intended for use with an outdoor mobility base/seating shell mobility base. In addition, please
follow the safety notices in the instructions for use of the Kimba products.

►The seat and back support upholstery as well as seat cushions, padding and covers fulfil the normative
requirements for flame resistance. However, they may still ignite if fire is handled improperly or negligently.
►Keep away from all ignition sources, especially lit cigarettes.

Extreme temperatures
Hypothermia or burns due to contact with components, failure of components

Failure to carry out checks before each use
User may fall, tip over or fall out of the product due to failure to carry out checks
►Before each use, check that the seat tilt and back support angle mechanisms are firmly locked.
►Before each use, check that the buckles on the positioning belts and positioning aids are working correctly.

Use of the product during diagnostic examinations and therapeutic treatment
Impairment of the examination results or the effectiveness of treatment due to interactions of the product with
devices that are used
►Make sure that examinations and treatments are carried out exclusively under the prescribed conditions.

Uncontrolled driving behaviour, unexpected sounds or odours
Falling, tipping, collision with persons or nearby objects due to defects
►If any faults, defects or other hazards that can lead to personal injury are detected, the product must be taken
out of service immediately. This includes uncontrolled movements as well as sounds that are unexpected or
previously not noted or odours that deviate significantly from the state of the product at the time of delivery.

Lack of maintenance

4.4 Further information
INFORMATION
Even in the event of compliance with all applicable guidelines and standards, alarm systems (e.g. in department
stores) may respond to your product. Should this happen, remove your product from the area where the alarm
was triggered.

5.2 Options
The standard model can be fitted to the user's personal requirements thanks to a large range of options. For use of
these options: see page13 ff.
5.3 Storage
5.3.1 Storage during daily use
Store the product in a dry, enclosed room with sufficient air circulation and protection from external influences.
5.3.2 Storage during extended disuse
The product must be stored in a dry place. Specific information for extended storage: see page48.
It is not necessary to disassemble the product.
Maintain sufficient clearance from sources of heat.
Direct exposure to sunlight or UV radiation causes materials to harden and the product to age more quickly. When
storing the product, do not expose it to direct sunlight or UV light.

6 Preparing the product for use
6.1 Assembly
6.1.1 Attaching the seating unit

►Secure the seating unit using the seat lock.
a) Setting the direction the seating unit faces
INFORMATION
The following section describes how to attach the Kimba seating unit on a Kimba outdoor mobility base. The
Kimba seating unit is attached the same way on the Kimba Cross and Kimba Inline outdoor mobility bases and on
the Kimba Home mobility base.
The seating unit may face in one of two directions when mounted on the outdoor mobility base:
• In the direction of travel (see fig.2, example for Kimba outdoor mobility base)
• Opposite to the direction of travel (see fig.3, example for Kimba outdoor mobility base)

b) Attaching the seating unit
1) Gently press the lateral supports on the sides of the back support slightly inwards (see fig.10) to avoid dam
aging the material.
2) First place the seating unit on the rear tube of the seat adapter at an angle of approx.45° (see fig.4).
3) Press the front edge of the seat onto the outdoor mobility base until the retaining claw audibly snaps on to the
front tube of the seat adapter (see fig.5).
4) Slide the seat lock to the left to engage it (see fig.6, item1). The green symbol shows that the seating unit is
locked (see fig.6, item2).
5) Check that the seating unit and the outdoor mobility base are securely connected by pulling back the back sup
port.
→The seating unit should remain firmly attached to the outdoor mobility base.
c) Detaching the seating unit

7.1 Basic functions
7.1.1 Attaching/detaching the seating unit

INFORMATION
The following section describes how to detach the Kimba seating unit from a Kimba outdoor mobility base. The
Kimba seating unit is detached from the Kimba Cross and Kimba Inline outdoor mobility bases and the Kimba
Home mobility base the same way.
To transport the buggy in a passenger vehicle or to transfer the seating unit to a mobility base, the seating unit has
to be detached from the outdoor mobility base.
a) Detaching the seating unit
1) Move the seating unit to an upright position (see page15).
2) To open the seat lock, slide it to the right (see fig.7, item1). The red symbol indicates that the seat lock is
open (see fig.7, item2).
3) Stand next to the seating unit and hold the upper area of the back support with one hand.
CAUTION! If a head support is installed, do not hold onto it during this process.
4) Pull the release lever located below the seating unit upwards (see fig.8, item1).

5) Tilt the seat backwards (see fig.9, item1) at an angle of approx.45° and then lift it up and out.

7.1.2 Rotating the seating unit
1) Detach the seating unit. See the previous section for information on detaching the seating unit.
2) Turn the seating unit in the desired direction. For information on the possible directions of the seating unit, see
page12.

7.1.3 Adjusting the seat angle
CAUTION
Changed centre of gravity after operating the seat tilt
Tipping over, falling out of the user due to adjustment error
►Check the tip resistance each time after changing the seat tilt, especially in combination with a back support
angle setting. Secure theoutdoor mobility base against tipping due to the shift in the centre of gravity.
►Avoid any extreme settings.
►Do not suspend loads on the push handles since this would additionally change the centre of gravity.

CAUTION
Incorrect handling of the seat tilt
Tipping over, falling out of the seating shell/seating system due to user error
►First practise operating the seat tilt without the user.
►Operate the seat tilt only on a firm, level surface and with the wheel lock engaged.
►Before negotiating slopes or obstacles, always have the seat in the neutral, upright position. When driving
downhill, the seat should be tilted slightly backwards.
►Drive only on slopes where the holding forces remain manageable.
►When operating the seat tilt, always secure the user against falling out of the seating unit either forwards or
backwards. Do this by holding onto the back support of the respective seat with one hand.
►Do not reach into the adjustment mechanism when operating the seat tilt.
The seat angle (seat tilt) is adjusted on the Kimba outdoor mobility base/seating shell mobility base. For further
information, see the respective instructions for use.

7.1.4 Adjusting the back support angle
CAUTION
Change in centre of gravity following back angle adjustment
Falling over, falling out of the user due to adjustment errors
►After each modification of the back angle, check the tilt stability. To do so, hold the product with both hands
by the push handle/push bar.

►When folding the back support up or down, grasp only the specified components.
INFORMATION
Note that when adjusting the back support angle, the leg support must also be adjusted in such a way as to allow
a comfortable position for the user's feet.
The back support angle can be set in 11 locking positions in a range of 80°–180°.
1) Gently press the lateral supports on the sides of the back support slightly inwards to avoid damaging the
material (see fig.10, item1).
2) Press the child safety lock on the locking pin (red release button) (see fig.11, item1). While pressing the child
safety lock, pull the locking pin outwards (see fig.11, item2).
INFORMATION: As you do so, use the other hand to secure the back support to prevent uncontrolled
movements.
3) Set the back support to the desired angle.
INFORMATION: If the back support angle is set to 180° (maximum setting) the seating unit is in the
lying position (see fig.12).
4) Let the locking pin audibly engage in one of the 11 locking positions. The locking pin locks automatically; the
red release button protrudes slightly (see fig.13, item1).

7.1.4.1 Using the back support angle limiters
INFORMATION
This function is offered only in selected regions.
Back support angle limiters restrict the back support angle to a range of 80°–130°.
If the back support angle needs to be adjusted backwards with the seat angle at its maximum setting (40°), the
back support angle limiters can be used. The back support can then be tilted backwards to a maximum of just
170°.
1) Press the back support angle limiters onto the left and right back support tubes in the position shown (see
fig.14).
2) Move the back support to the desired position (see previous section).

7.1.5 Adjusting the leg support
CAUTION
Getting into the seating unit incorrectly with the leg support folded down
User falling, tipping due to user error
►Fold the leg support up before getting into the seating unit.
CAUTION
Lifting by removable components
Tipping over, falling of the user due to lifting by removable components
►The product may be lifted only by firmly welded or permanently attached components. It is particularly danger
ous to lift the product by the leg support, push handle/push bar, grabrail or arm supports.
CAUTION
Faulty protective edge band
Cuts caused by exposed metal components
►Ensure that no part of the protective edge band is faulty and that it is not detached from the leg support.
►Have a faulty protective edge band replaced by the dealer.
CAUTION
Improper use of the leg supports
Abrasions due to sharp edges, skin irritation
►To prevent injuries on the soles of the feet, do not use the leg supports while barefoot.
7.1.5.1 Adjusting the knee angle
The leg support's knee angle can be adjusted in a range of 0°–90°:
1) Release the clamping lever on the leg support (see fig.15, item1).
2) Hold on to the tube and adjust the knee angle (see fig.15, item2).
3) Tighten the clamping lever.
4) Before using the buggy, check that the leg support is secure. To do so, push the leg support down.
→The knee angle must not change.

7.1.5.2 Folding the leg support up and down
The leg support may be folded up for transport:
Standard leg support
1) Hold the leg support by the edge and fold it upwards (see fig.16, item1).
2) After transport, fold the leg support down again.
"Angle-adjustable" leg support (option)
1) Pull the release strap (see fig.17).

Angle-adjustable leg support for short lower leg lengths (option)
1) Pull the release strap (similar: see fig.17).
2) Depending on its position after installation, the leg support can be folded down (short lower leg lengths) or up
(standard).
→Installation for short lower leg lengths: Hold the edge of the leg support and fold it down (see fig.18).
→Standard installation: Hold the edge of the leg support and fold it upwards (see the "Standard leg sup
port" section).
3) Return the leg support to its original position by folding it up or down. The leg support locks into place auto
matically.

7.2 Additional options
7.2.1 Headrests
CAUTION
Incorrect head support adjustment
Damage to health due to incorrect head position of the user
►Mounting kits and head supports may only be mounted and adjusted by qualified personnel.
►Have the setting of the head support and the tightness of the screw connections checked at regular intervals.
Further information is found in the section “Maintenance” (see page47).
►If the setting of the head support changes during daily use, have it readjusted again immediately by qualified
personnel.
The seating unit can be equipped with head supports that provide additional support for the head for certain indic
ations.
7.2.1.1 Head support pads, adjustable laterally
The horizontal slots in the head support pad adapters (see fig.19) allow the width of the head area to be adjusted.
The option has been preset by qualified personnel.

7.2.1.2 Integrated head support with slight lateral support
Qualified personnel can reduce the width of the head area by gluing foam pads (see fig.21, item1) into the head
support's side pads (see fig.20).
Up to three pads with a thickness of 10mm each can be glued in on each side. In total, qualified personnel can
reduce the width by 60mm (30mm each side). The option has been preset by qualified personnel.

►Only use the mounting kit in connection with a head support at all times.
The following individually adjustable head supports are available for the seating unit:
• Head support, concave (see fig.22)
• Head support, three-part, angle-adjustable (see fig.23)
The head supports are supplied with a head support holder and a short back support.
The position of the head supports can be adjusted (see fig.22, see fig.23) to the individual user. The option has
been preset by qualified personnel.

7.2.2 Positioning belts
WARNING
Use of the belt system as a passenger restraint system in vehicles for transporting persons with reduced
mobility is forbidden
Serious injuries due to improper handling of the product
►Under no circumstances may the belts and positioning aids offered with the product be used as part of a pas
senger restraint system in vehicles for transporting persons with reduced mobility.
►Note that the belts and positioning aids offered with the product are only intended to help support the user sit
ting in the product.
WARNING
Incorrect application of the belt system/positioning aid
Strangulation, suffocation due to incorrectly placed positioning belts/positioning aids
►Follow the instructions for proper application so that the user cannot slip into a position that would endanger
him or her.
►Note that the user’s back must be up against the back support pad when securing the belt system/positioning
aid and during use of the product.
►Do not use positioning belts or positioning aids if the user is able to sit without them.
CAUTION
Improper adjustments
Injuries, malpositions, illness of the user due to adjustment changes
►The belt system is an important part of an individual seating unit/seating solution. Do not modify the installa
tion position and basic settings established by the qualified personnel.
►In case of problems with these adjustments (suchas an unsatisfactory sitting position), promptly contact the
qualified personnel who fitted the product.
►Immediately consult the qualified personnel if you notice signs of discomfort or fear when using a belt sys
tem.
►Have the basic settings of the belt system checked regularly. Adjustments may be required due to the growth
of the user or because of changes in the course of the disease.
CAUTION
Improper use
Falls, user falling out due to improper use
►The positioning system for the upper body must be put on when getting into the product and used in combina
tion with a positioning lap belt at all times while using the product.
►Only open the positioning system for the upper body and the lap belt when the user is ready to get out of the
product.
►Do not leave the user unsupervised if the cognitive abilities of the user could lead to unintentional opening of
the positioning system.
The product can be equipped with different types of positioning belts.
