1 General Information
1.1 Preface
The Eco Buggy is a quality product offering versatile use in everyday life. Before you start using
your Eco Buggy, please make sure you read the sections "Delivery / Preparing the Eco Buggy
for Use" and "Safety Instructions". Please keep these instructions in a safe place.
The section "Options” presents additional parts for the Eco Buggy, which may extend the range of
application and increase the comfort in the rehab buggy. If you have any questions or problems,
please contact your specialist dealer.
Technical changes to the design described in these instructions for use are reserved.
1.2 Intended Use
Rehab buggies are generally indicated for children and young people who are unable to walk
or have a walking impediment and need to be transported.
The Eco Buggy may only be combined with the options mentioned in these instructions for use
and vice versa. Otto Bock assumes no liability for combinations with medical products and/or
accessories from other manufacturers outside of the modular system.
1.3 Field of Application
The Eco Buggy is suitable for people who are unable to walk or have severe walking impedi-
ments due to:
• Palsies/Paralyses
• Loss of limbs
• Defective and/or deformed limbs
• Joint contractures
• Joint defects
• Other diseases
1.4 CE Conformity
This product meets the requirements of the 93/42/EEC guidelines for medical products. This
producthasbeenclassiedasaclassIproductaccordingtotheclassicationcriteriaoutlined
inappendixIXoftheguidelines.ThedeclarationofconformitywasthereforecreatedbyOtto
Bock with sole responsibility according to appendix VII of the guidelines.

1.5 Liability
The manufacturer’s warranty applies only if the product has been used under the conditions
and for the purposes described. The manufacturer recommends that the product be used and
maintained according to the instructions for use.
The manufacturer is not responsible for damages caused by components and spare parts not
approved by the manufacturer. Repairs must be carried out exclusively by authorized dealers or
by the manufacturer.
1.6 Service
Service and repairs on the Eco Buggy may only be carried out by Otto Bock specialist dealers.
Should any problems arise, please contact the supplier of your Eco Buggy. Any necessary repairs
will be made exclusively with authentic Otto Bock spare parts there.

2.2 General Safety Instructions
Before using the product you should become familiar with the handling and functions of the
product:

of the product.
Danger!
The Eco Buggy may be used only on solid level ground.
Danger!
For safety reasons, ascending/descending stairs and lifting the buggy should be
done by two persons.
Danger!
For clearing obstacles such as steps, curbs, and stairs, tilt the buggy onto the rear
wheels (to ascend, pull the buggy backwards; to descend, slowly lower the buggy
forward).
Danger!
Only lift the buggy by parts that are solidly attached (welded or screwed):
- Front frame tube above the front wheels
- Rear axle
- Push handles / Pushbar
Danger!
Firmly hold the buggy at the push handles on slopes and inclines. Otherwise, the
buggy might tip over to the side when pushing horizontally on gradients or roll away
when being pushed downhill.
Danger!
If possible, park the buggy only on level surfaces. If it is necessary to park on an
incline, position the buggy facing uphill with the wheel locks engaged.
Danger!
Before leaving the buggy and before getting into and out of it, always engage the
wheel locks.
Danger!
The footplate must not be used for getting into or out of the buggy.
Danger!
The maximum total load of the Eco Buggy is 50 kg.
Danger!
Damage caused by objects lying upon the appliance. If appliances are transported in
the folded state, the weight of objects lying upon the appliance can cause deforma-
tions and result in problems when unfolding the appliance. Never put heavy objects
on a folded rehabilitation device.

Attaching heavy bags or other weight can adversely affect stability.

Never leave your child unattended in the rehab buggy, even if the belts are in use
and the wheel locks are engaged.

Using your Otto Bock product as a seat for transportation in motor vehicles for
the disabled�
We recommend that, wherever and whenever possible, users of a wheelchair, mobility
base with seating shell or buggy transfer to the seats installed in the motor vehicle
and use the corresponding vehicle restraint systems, as this is the only way to ensure
optimal protection of the passengers in case of an accident.
Your Otto Bock product Eco Buggy is permissible for transporting passengers in
motor vehicles when using Otto Bock safety components as well as appropriate res-
traint systems. For more information, please refer to our instructions for use manual
"Using your Wheelchair/ Mobility Base with Seating Shell or Buggy as a Seat
for Transportation in Motor Vehicles", order no. 646D158.

3 Delivery / Preparing the Eco Buggy for Use
Intheoriginalpackageyouwillndthefollowingcomponents(seetitlepage):
• Buggy, in folded condition, with enclosed footrest
• Instructions for use and required tools
• Accessories as ordered
Note!
To assemble the footrests, please proceed as described under "Adjusting the Footrest
Height" (Fig. 14).
To unfold the buggy please proceed as follows:
• First remove any packaging straps or transport locks (Fig. 1).

• Grip the push handles of the buggy (Fig. 2) and unfold it as far as possible (Fig. 3 and 4).
• Engage the folding guards on the right and left by gripping the push handles and respective
front frame of the buggy (Fig. 5) and pressing slightly towards the ground.

Make sure that both folding guards are closed (Fig. 6).

• Press the folding lever (Fig. 7) up to the stop to unfold the scissor construction.
• Turnthefootrests(Fig.8)fromtheoutertotheinnersideandipdownthefootplates.
•
Inserttheholdingbracketwiththetiprstintotheslottedholeandlaterallybringthefootplates
together until you hear the ratchet bolt engage.

Do not take hold of other moveable parts than the ones described, especially the folding
scissor construction.

To fold the buggy, please proceed as follows:
• Place the backrest in the most anterior position (Fig. 9).
• Release the locking bar below the footplates (Fig. 10) and pull the footplates apart.

• Swing the footrests to the outside beside the front wheels (Fig. 11).
• Pull open the folding scissor below the seat (Fig. 12).

• Open the folding guards on the right and left at the front frame (Fig. 13).
• Now proceed as described under "Unfolding", but in reverse order.

4 Adjustment and Adaptation Possibilities
4.1 Caster Swivel Lock (Fig. 11)
To engage the caster swivel lock, push the red locking slide upwards. To open it, push the lo-
cking slide downwards.
4.2 Adjusting the Back Inclination (Fig. 9)
After loosening the wing nuts, the back inclination is continuously adjustable. Retighten the wing
nuts.
Danger!
When making adjustments under load, unscrew the wing nuts to a certain degree
only and make sure to make controlled adjustments, for example by supporting the
backrest with your thigh. Sudden adjustments of the backrest inclination under load
can cause the buggy to tip over.
4.3 Adjusting the Footrest Height (Fig. 14)
After opening the screws, the footrest height can be adjusted using the different holes at 2 cm
distance. To do this, you need a Phillips head screwdriver, which is not included in the delivery.
4.4 Engaging the Wheel Locks (Fig. 15)
Press the release lever down with your foot to engage the wheel locks. Press the release lever
upwards with your foot to open the wheel locks.
Attention!
Always ensure that both wheel locks are engaged.

5 Options
All accessories not installed by the manufacturer must be installed by trained technicians. The
following notes on installation are listed here for technician use.
5.1 Storage Bag (Fig. 16), max. 5 kg
The storage bag is attached to the front frame on the left and right sides by means of screws
andtotherearframebymeansofsnapfasteners.Itcanbelledbothfromthefrontandfrom
the rear.
5.2 Lap Belt (Fig. 17)
The standard equipment of the Eco Buggy includes a simple lap belt. To open the belt, press
together the plastic tabs of the snap buckle und pull them out of the housing. To close the belt
buckle, slide the plastic tabs into the housing until you hear the buckle engage. The length of the
belt can be adjusted via the adjusting buckles.

5.3 Five-point Belt (Fig. 18)
Theoptionalve-pointbeltofferssignicantlyincreasedxationandthusmoreseatingsecurity
than the lap belt. It consists of shoulder straps with shoulder pads, lap belt and a centre strap.
a) Assembling the ve-point belt

Check the supplied components for completeness (Fig� 18):1xve-pointbelt,2xshoulder
pads, 2 x M5x40 screws, 2 x spacers, 2 x washers, 1 x holding buckle

Removing the lap belt: Unthread the buckle from the strap (Fig. 19) and pull the strap out
of the back upholstery.
• Mounting the strap in the pelvic area: Remove the M5x35 oval head screw. Mount the pel-
vicbracketsoftheve-pointbeltusingthesuppliedscrews,washersandspacers(Fig.20).

• Mounting the strap in the shoulder area:Threadtheshoulderpiecesontotheve-point
belt (Fig. 21). Hold the buckle as shown in Fig. 22 and thread it through the slot in the back
(Fig. 23, item A). Follow this procedure on both sides.
•
Leadthefabricapsoftheshoulderpadsthroughtherespectivelowerslotsintheback
(Fig. 23, item B). On both sides, close the shoulder straps behind the backrest (Fig. 24/25).

b) Getting into the belt:
• Open the snap buckle of the lap belt (Fig. 29).

c) Adjusting the lap belt:
•
Use the four adjusting buckles of the lap belt and shoulder straps to adjust the length (Fig. 30).
• For optimal height adaptation of the shoulder straps please use the slots in the back upholstery
(Fig. 23, item C). Open the shoulder strap attachment, choose the appropriate height, thread
the strap ends through two slots in the back padding spaced one above the other and close
the strap attachment (Fig. 31).
•
The centre strap can also be attached in two different positions: Open and remove the holding
buckle beneath the seat surface, thread the centre strap through the appropriate slot and
reattach the holding buckle beneath the seat surface (Fig. 26/27).

5.4 Canopy
Thanks to a net which is integrated into the canopy, the person sitting in the buggy remains
visible to you at any time. For assembly/disassembly of the canopy, please proceed as follows:
•
First pull open the folding scissor below the seat (Fig. 32) to release the tension on the frame.
• Thenonbothcanopysidesrstslidetheupperbeforethelowersnap-intonguesintothe
guiding grooves of the attachment points (Fig. 33) and lock the snap-in tongues by pressing
downward (Fig. 34).
• Press in the folding lever up to the stop (Fig. 35).
•
To remove the canopy, loosen the folding lever below the seat. Now proceed as described
under 'Assembly', but in reverse order.

6 Care Instructions
Attention!
Clean all frame components and plastic parts using only standard, mild household
cleaning agents.
Attention!
Do not use your Eco Buggy in salt water and keep sand or other particles from
damaging the wheel bearings.
Attention!
Afteryouhavenishedalladjustments,snuglyre-tightenthescrewsthathavebeen
loosened.

Check all screw connections on a regular basis.

8 Re-use / Disposal
8.1 Information on Re-use
Attention!
Risk due to improper use. Seat paddings that come directly into contact with the skin
can cause functional
and hygienic risks if the product is used by another person. They must be replaced for
re-use.
The product is suitable for re-use.
Similar to second-hand machines or cars, products that are being re-used are subject to incre-
ased strain. Features and functions must not change in a way that could endanger patients or
other persons within the product’s life cycle.
Based on market observations and the current state of technology, the manufacturer has calcu-
lated that the product can be used for a period of 4 years, provided that it is used properly and
that the service and maintenance instructions are observed. Periods during which the wheelchair
is stored at the dealer or with the third party payer are not included in this period. It should be
clearlypointedout,however,thattheproductisreliablefarbeyondthisdenedperiodoftime,
provided that it is cared for and maintained appropriately.
Incasesofre-use,thecorrespondingproductmustrstbethoroughlycleanedanddisinfected.
Subsequently, the product must be examined by an authorized specialist to check the condition,
wear, and possible damages. Any worn and damaged components as well as components which
donottorarenotsuitablefortheusermustbereplaced.
The service manual includes a service schedule, detailed information, and a list of the required
tools.
8.2 Information on Disposal
If a product is to be disposed of, all components of the product must be disposed of properly in
accordance with the applicable environmental protection regulations in the respective country.
