The general terms and conditions
applicableatthetime of delivery
apply for the sale and delivery of
Oventrop.
2.5 Storage
The valve may only be stored
underthefollowingconditions:
- Storagetemperature:-4to
+140°F(-20°Cto+60°C)
- Keepdryandprotectedfrom
dust.
- PreventUVradiationand
directsunlight.
- The valve (including accesso-
ries and spare parts) must not
bestoredtogetherinthesame
room with solvents, chemi-
cals,acids,fuels,orthelike.
3. Safety Notices
3.1 IntendedUse
The Oventrop "Hydrocontrol
MTR" valve (lead-free ≤ 0.25%
Pb) is intended for installation
in heating and cooling system
pipework.
Anyuseofthevalvebeyondthis
or other than this, particularly
in drinking water systems, is
not the use it is intended for.
In addition, the valve is not suit-
able for gases or media that
contain oil or are aggressive.
The manufacturer will not be
liableforthesekindsofnon-in-
tended use. The risk will be
bornebytheuseralone.
Theeventofanexternalrewas
not taken into consideration
whendesigningthevalve.

Modifying the valve is not per-
missible.

3.4 Personnel
 Qualications
The heating, gas, and water
technician must be capable of
workingonheatingandaircon-
ditioningsystemsbasedonspe-
cialist training, experience, and
knowledgeofthecorresponding
standards.Theymustbeableto
recognizepotentialrisksontheir
own.

Personalsafetyequipment(e.g.

boots) should be used for all
work.

Description
4.1 Setup & Functions
The"Hydrocontrol MTR" balan-
cingvalve(lead-free≤0.25%Pb)
isintended forshutoffandba-
lancing in hydronic heating and
cooling systems. The Y-pattern
globe valve has a multi-turn
hand wheel and two measuring
ports. It is available with NPT
threaded connections or solde-
redconnections.

5.1 Basic Information
Do not use the valve
indrinkingwaterlines.
Thevalvecanbeinstalledinany
orientation in either the supply
orreturnpipe.
WARNING
Risk of injury from
hot / cold surfaces!
Thereisariskofburns
from coming into contact
withthesystem.
  Beforeallwork,allow
the system section to
cool down until
surfacescanbetouched
withoutriskofinjury.
CAUTION
Risk of cuts from
sharp edges!
Threads,bores,andpipe
edgesmaycausecuts.
  Wearsafetygloves.
WARNING
Dangerfromttings
under pressure!
Workingon an operating
HVAC system is danger-
ous.Liquidwhenunder
pressurecanbeveryhot,
and its uncontrolled release
canresultinsevereinjuries.
  Performallworkona
depressurizedand
cooled-offsystemonly.
  Shut down the system
sectionandallowliquid
to drain in a controlled
fashion.
  Wearsafetyglasses

5.2 Installation of the Valve
WARNING
Thereisariskofbeing
burnedbyhot liquid
if you install the valve
in a system when it is
running. Shut down the
system section, allow
it to cool off, and drain
theliquidinacontrolled
fashion.
1. In a new installation,
 itmaybenecessaryto
 ushthepipelinesof
the system before
 installingthevalve.
 Avoidcontaminating
the valve with metal
 debris,sealants,etc.

NOTE
Information on the installation of valves with
a soldered connection:
Material damage due to improper soldering!
Danger from the uncontrolled escape of media!
Incorrect soldering can cause damage to the valve
components(e.g.,valveseals).Thiscanleadtothe
uncontrolledescapingofmediaandariskofburns.
 Duringsolderingthemaximumtemperatureof150°C
(300degreesFahrenheit)onthehousingconnection
nozzle(measuringvalvesandtoppart)mustnotbe
exceeded.Topreventthiseithercooldownthe
housingconnectionnozzle(e.g.,withadampcloth).
Or,ifthisisnotsufficient,unscrewthemeasuring
valvesandthetoppartduringsoldering.
 Thevalvemustbefullyopen.
 The soldering agent and method must comply with the
state-of-the-art.

Settingtheowvolume
using calculated preset values
Turn the handwheel to a preset
value toregulatetheowvolume
requiredfortheline.

The preset values depend on the parameters of the sys-
teminwhichthevalveisinstalled.Ifthevolumeowand
pressure loss areknown,youcandeterminethepreset
valuesbyusingtheowratediagramsintheappendixto
theseinstructions.
Before initial operation, the sys-
temmustbelledanddeaera-
ted.
WARNING
Danger from overpressure
and leaking medium!
Overpressureinthesystem
can result in injuries from
parts suddenly coming
loose and media escaping
inanuncontrolledfashion.
  Maintaintheadmissible
operatingpressures.
  Performaleakagetest.

Even with a limited
presetting, the valve
canstillbesettozero
orshutoff.
Thepresetvaluecanbelimited
orxed(seeFig. 11).Thisme-
ans that after shut off (hand-
wheel set to zero) the previ-
ousvaluecanbequicklyfound
againandreset.
1. Insertthelongendofan
 Allenwrench(3mm)into
the center hole on the
 handwheelface(Fig.11).
2. Turnthekeyclockwiseas
far as it will go in order to
limit the adjusting spindle
 within.

Marking Feed/Return
Usea colored ring tomark the
valveashavingbeeninstalledin
a feed line (red) or a return line
(blue).Thetwotabsofthecolo-
red ring are used to attach it to
thehandwheel(Fig.12).
If peripheral scale is hard to
read: Reposition handwheel
Depending on the installation po-
sitionofthevalve,itmaynotbe
possible to read the peripheral
scaleforthenesetting.Ifthisis
the case, you can reposition the
handwheel to bring the display
intothelineofsight.
1. Setbothscalesto"0"
(valveclosed).
2. Removecoverplug(5).
3. Undoscrew(4)withsocket
wrench(12mm).
4. Pullhandwheel(2) off of valve
spindle (1) withslighttug.
5. Turnhandwheel (2) so that
window of peripheral scale
(3)iseasilyvisible.Do not
change "0"setting when
doing so.
6. Sethandwheelontovalve
spindleandreplacescrew.
7. Pressoncoverplug.

Settingtheowvolume
The tting has two measuring
ports for connecting it to a dif-
ferential pressure meter. As
suchitispossibletosetthevalve
toaspeciedowvolumevalue.
The measuring computer (e.g.
"OV-DMC2")measuresthepre-
vailing differential pressure be-
fore (+) and after (-) the measur-
ingoriceintegratedinthevalve,
thereby calculating the current
volumeow.Thismakesitpos-
sible to balance between target
and actual values. Any devia-
tionscanbereadjustedusingthe
handwheel.
When using a measuring com-
puter, insert its measuring
needles into the two open-
ings of the measuring ports.
Connect the measuring tube
marked in blue to the valve
labeled with "-"and the tube
marked in red to the "+"valve,
accordingly.
Should you use a
differential pressure
meter, please also note
the relevant
instructionsforuse.
