ThePhaseIImodelno.SRG‐2000MiniSurfaceRoughnessTesterisanextgenerationof
productdevelopedforthePhaseIIMetrologyGroupthatfeatureshighaccuracy,awide
rangeofapplication,simpleoperationandstableperformance.Itiswidelyapplicablein
testingsurfacesofallkindsofmetalsandnon‐metals.Integratingthesensorwithits
mainframe,itsahand‐heldsetespeciallysuitedforuseonanyproductionsite.
2)WORKINGPRINCIPLEANDSTRUCTUREFEATURES
2.1)WORKINGPRINCIPLE
Whenthemotorizedsensorismakingalinearuniformmotionalongthetestsurface,the
contactstylusbeingperpendiculartotheworksurface,movesupanddownwiththework
surface.Itsmotionisconvertedintoelectricsignals,whichareamplified,filteredand
transformedintodigitalsignalsthrougha/d.ThesignalsarethenprocessedbytheCPU
intoRaandRzvaluesbeforebeingdisplayedonthescreen.

4.1)OPERATION:
POWERONTHEDEVICE.
PressandholdtheRedPowerbuttononthefrontpanelfor1second.Aftera“beep”sound,thedevice
isreadytowork.ThelargeLCDdisplaywillshowthemeasuringparametersandsamplinglengthofthe
previoustest.Beforetakingatest,choosethedesiredparameterRa,Rz,Rq,orRtandpropersamplinglength
2.5,0.8or0.25(forsamplinglengthoption,consulttheappendix).
Afterswitchingonthedevice,pressthetochangeparameters.
Tochoosethepropersamplinglength,pressthekeypad(0.25,0.8OR2.5).
Aftertheparametersandsamplinglengthsaretaken,youmaybegintesting.Positionthe
llmarkoverthetestareaandpressthestartbuttonontopoftheunit.Thestylusmoves
automatically.Whenthedevicebeepstwice,themeasurementhasbeencompletedandtheresultswillbe
shownupontheLCDscreen.

POINTSFORATTENTION:
Whilethestylusisinmotion,youmustkeepthedeviceevenandsteadysoasnottoaffecttheaccuracyofthe
reading.
Beforethesensorreturnstotheoriginalposition,thedevicewillnotrespondtoanyoperationuntilthe
measurementiscompleted.
4.2)CALIBRATION
Whenabnormalerrorsarefound,thestandardsampleblockmaybeusedforcalibration.TheRavaluesofthe
sampleblockusedforcalibration,rangefrom0.1µM‐10µM.
METHOD:withthetesterinmetricmodeandthepoweroff,presstheredStartbuttonontopwhilepressing
thePowerbuttontogether.Whenabeepsounds,releasethebuttonandthedeviceentersitscalibration
mode.TheLCDscreenshouldread“CAL”andtherewillbeaRavalueonthedisplay.Ifthisvaluedoesn’t
matchyourtestsamplethenyoumustadjustitbypressingtheup/downarrowbuttonsonthekeypad.Press
theStartbuttonontopandtheunitwillbegincalibratingitself.Thevaluedisplayedattheendofthisprocess
shouldfallwithintheallowabletoleranceofyourtestsample.Tocompletetheprocess.Powertheunitoff.
Thiswillnowsavethenewcalibration.Normalmeasurementscanresumeatthistime.

toMetric

WhenthebatterysymbolisnearemptythenitstimetorechargetheSRG‐2000.Thetestermustberecharged
beforefurtherusage.
4.6)RECHARGING
Plugthechargerintothesocketofthetester.Afullrechargeshouldtakebetween3‐5hours.Ifneeded,the
testercanfunctionwhilecharging.

Avoidcollision,violentshock,heavydust,dampness,oilandastrongmagneticfield.
ThePiezo‐electricpickupstyluswithdiamondtipisextremelysensitiveandaccurate.Aftereachuse,make
surethatthesuppliedprotectivecovergoesonthistipaftereachuse.Damagetothistipwillresultinfalse
anderroneousreadings.
5.2)REPAIR
ALLREPAIRSMUSTBEDONETHROUGHTHEPHASEIISERVICEDEPARTMENT.
Areturnauthorizationnumbermustismandatoryinorderforadefectivetestertobeacceptedforrepair
and/orreplacement.Alltestersmustbeaccompaniedbyyourwarrantycardorserialnumber.Complete
descriptionofproblemandacontactpersonforauthorizationofrepairsmustbesuppliedaswell.
