DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1) WARNING: All air pressure in unit must be relieved prior to disassembly of gripper. -FSR2 and –FSE2 units contain springs under compression. A means
of retaining plug (-FSE2 units) or piston (-FSR2 units) must be provided during disassembly to prevent ejection of these components from gripper.
2) During disassembly, be careful to avoid scratching bearing or sealing areas.
3) Remove target pin from jaw (CU sensor ready option only).
4) Standard units: Remove bore plug retainer, bore plug, plug seal, and piston assembly fastener.
–FSR2 units: Remove bore plug retainer, bore plug, and plug seal. Restrain piston and slowly remove piston assembly fastener. Relieve spring force by
slowly releasing the piston. Remove piston and spring from bore. (See Figure 4.)
-FSE2 units: Restrain bore plug and carefully remove retaining ring. Relieve spring force by slowly releasing plug. Remove spring and bore plug seal.
Remove piston assembly fastener. (See Figure 5.)
5) Remove jaw cover assembly fasteners retaining jaw cover.
6) Remove air filter or filters from size 50 & 63 units.
7) Move jaws to closed position and lift jaws, jaw seals, and jaw driver from body of gripper. Note location of jaw seals.
8) Push rod through body to press out piston and piston seal (standard and –FSE2 units). Remove piston seal, taking care to avoid scratching sealing
surface of seal groove in piston.
9) Remove rod seal, note orientation of seal.
10) Clean and inspect all components. Warning: Do not remove oil wicks from size 50 & 63 units. Worn or damaged components should be replaced.
REASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1 Be careful to avoid damaging seals during reassembly.
2) Lubrication guidelines (only use lubricants which are compatible with pneumatic devices)
• Rod seal, rod, piston bore, bore plug seal, piston, piston seal, and spring ends: petroleum-based lubricant/grease
• Jaw slot, jaws, jaw driver, jaw seals, and jaw cover: petroleum-based high pressure grease
• Oil wicks: petroleum-based heavyweight oil with Teflon
3) Use removable threadlocker on all threaded fasteners.
4) Lubricate and install rod seal, see Figure 2 for orientation.
5) On all units except sizes 50 & 63 with –FSR2 option, lubricate rod, and install in body with turned down section visible in jaw slot. See Figure 1. On sizes
50 & 63 with –FSR2 option apply threadlocker to threaded end of rod and install in driver, see Figure 4.
6) Lubricate jaw slot, jaws, and jaw driver. Replenish oil in wicks in jaw driver (size 50 & 63 only, see Figure 3).
7) Assemble jaw seals to jaws.
8) Assemble both jaws to jaw driver and move jaws to closed position. Verify that counterbore in jaw driver is oriented to accept rod when assembled. Note
jaw orientation per Figure 1.
9) Align jaw and driver assembly with jaw slot. Slide jaw seals in line with jaw seal slots. Slide assembly down into jaw slot. Verify that jaw seal is properly
located in slot by checking that no gap exists between jaw and jaw slot. Size 50 & 63 with –FSR2 option will require that rod be aligned in body prior to
assembling jaws in body.
10) Install air filters on the size 50 & 63 units.
11) Lubricate jaw cover and install. Care must be taken to align cover with jaw seals. Verify that jaw seals are properly located in cover by checking that no
gap exists between jaw and jaw cover (prior to applying torque to cover fasteners).
12) Apply removable threadlocker to jaw cover assembly fasteners and install in body. Torque jaw cover assembly fasteners per Table 1.
13) Lubricate bore of gripper.
14) Lubricate and insert spring as shown in Figure 4 for units with –FSR2 option.
15) Replace and lubricate piston seal. Insert piston with seal into body of gripper, see Figures 2, 4, and 5 for orientation.
16) Apply removable threadlocker to piston assembly fastener and assemble through piston and rod into jaw driver. Pressure may need to be applied to piston
to compress spring in units with –FSR2 option. Torque the piston assembly fastener per Table 1.
17) Lubricate and insert spring as shown in Figure 5 for units with –FSE2 option.
18) Lubricate and install bore plug seal, see Figure 2 for orientation. Note: Plug seal may require stretching prior to installation to allow proper assembly of
bore plug.
19) Lubricate and install bore plug, see Figure 2 for orientation. Verify proper seating of bore plug. Pressure may need to be applied to bore plug to compress
spring in units with –FSE2 option; see Figure 5.
20) Install bore plug retainer into body (sharp edges of retaining ring outward from body). Verify proper seating of retaining ring.
21) CU option. Apply removable threadlocker to target pin and install through body into jaw. Torque the target pin in jaw per Table 1.
