1.4 Unauthorized network access
Connecting devices to a network via Ethernet entails the danger of unauthorized access to
the network.
If possible, deactivate unused communication channels.
Assign passwords such that third-parties cannot access the switch and make unauthorized
changes.
Due to its communication interfaces, the switch should not be used in safety-critical appli-
cations unless additional security appliances are being used.
Please take additional protective measures in accordance with the IT security requirements
and the standards applicable to your application (e.g. virtual networks (VPN) for remote
maintenance access, firewalls, etc.) for protection against unauthorized network access.
On first request, you shall release Phoenix Contact and the companies associated with
Phoenix Contact GmbH & Co. KG, Flachsmarktstrasse 8, 32825 Blomberg in accordance
with §§15ff. AktG (German Stock Corporation Act), hereinafter collectively referred to as

2.1 Properties
The IRT switch is an industrial Ethernet switch for PROFINET realtime applications, which
is available in different versions:
– FL SWITCH IRT 2TX 2POF with two fast Ethernet ports in RJ45 format and two fiber
optic POF-SCRJ ports; IP20 degree of protection.
– FL SWITCH IRT TX 3POF with a fast Ethernet port in RJ45 format and three fiber optic
POF-SCRJ ports; IP20 degree of protection.
– FL SWITCH IRT 4TX with four fast Ethernet ports in RJ45 format; IP20 degree of pro-
tection.
– FL SWITCH IRT IP TX/3POF with a Fast Ethernet port in RJ45 format within the AIDA
connector and three fiber optic POF-SCRJ ports within the AIDA connector; IP67 de-
gree of protection.
– FL SWITCH IRT IP 4TX with four Fast Ethernet ports in RJ45 format within the AIDA
connector; IP67 degree of protection.

Future-proof networks for the highest demands
IP20/67 degree of protec-
tion
Devices with IP20 protection are designed for use in control cabinets/control boxes.
Devices with IP67 protection can be installed directly in the field or on machines without any
additional enclosure being required.
Maximum performance 10/100 Mbps on each RJ45 port, 100 Mbps for fiber optic ports
Maximum availability A device design that does not use a fan, the redundant power supply, and conformance with
all relevant industrial standards in terms of EMC, climate, mechanical load, etc. ensure the
highest possible level of availability.
Quick media redundancy Redundancy can also be created with standards: The MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol)
ensures safe operation of the entire network even in the event of a cable interrupt.

Two or three LEDs per port ensure that you always have sufficient information on site. A web
server and PROFINET IO diagnostics are provided for maintenance, configuration, and di-
agnostics via the network.
Features and fields of application of the FL SWITCH IRT
– Increased network performance by filtering data traffic:

The supply voltage can be connected via the 4-pos. COMBICON connector (redundan-
cy is optional); for the IP67 version, enclosed by the AIDA connector.

3 Mounting and installation
3.1 Mounting and removing the IP20 switch
Mount the switch on a clean DIN rail according to DIN EN 50 022 (e. g., NS 35 ... from Phoe-
nix Contact). To avoid contact resistance, only use clean, corrosion-free DIN rails. End
brackets (E/NS 35N, Order No. 0800886) can be mounted to the right and left of the switch
to stop the modules from slipping on the DIN rail.
To install:
1Place the module onto the DIN rail from above. The upper holding keyway of the mod-
ule must be hooked onto the top edge of the DIN rail. Push the module from the front
towards the mounting surface.

2Once the module has been snapped on properly, check that it is fixed securely on the
DIN rail. Check whether the positive latch is facing upwards, i.e., snapped on correctly.
Removal:
1Pull down the positive latch using a suitable tool (e.g., screwdriver). Then swivel the
bottom of the module away from the DIN rail slightly (1). Next, lift the module upward
away from the DIN rail (2).

3.2 Mounting and removing the IP67 switch
Use a flat and perpendicular mounting surface when mounting the device. The connec-
tors/cables must be inserted from below. Secure the device using four screws, e.g., slotted
cylinder head screws according to DIN EN ISO 1207-M6 x 16-8.8. For the drill hole spacing
in mm, please refer to the drawing.

3.3 Installing the IP20 switch
3.3.1 Connecting the 24 V DC supply voltage
The switch is operated using a 24 V DC voltage, which is applied via COMBICON. If re-
quired, the voltage can also be supplied redundantly (see Figure 3-5).

3.3.2 Signal contact
The switch has a floating signal contact. An error is indicated when the contact is opened.
If redundant power supply monitoring is active (default setting), an error is indicated if only
one voltage is applied. A bridge between US1 and US2 prevents this error message.

3.3.3 Assignment of the RJ45 Ethernet connectors
In the event of non-redundant voltage supply, the switch indicates the failure of a supply
voltage by opening the signal contact. You can prevent this error message by connecting
the supply voltage to both terminals in parallel, as illustrated in Figure 3-4, or by carrying
out the corresponding configuration in web-based management.

3.4 Installing the IP67 switch
3.4.1 Connecting the 24 V DC supply voltage
The switch is operated using a 24 V DC voltage (US1 - bus logic), which is applied via COM-
BICON/AIDA. The voltage supplies the switch on its own. The voltage US2 (sensor voltage)
will only pass through the switch (see figure below). Should you wish to supply the device
redundantly, two appropriate power supplies must be connected in parallel to US1. Ensure
that the power supplies used are suitable for parallel operation.

3.4.2 Signal contact
The switch has a floating signal contact. An error is indicated when the contact is opened.
A B-coded M12 connector (located on the device) is used to connect the signal contact.
Pin 1 and Pin 4 are used for the signal contact. Pins 2, 3 and 5 are not used.

3.5 Grounding
All Factoryline devices must be grounded so that any possible interference is shielded from
the data telegram and discharged to ground potential.
A wire of at least 2.5 mm2must be used for grounding. The following requirement applies to
the IP 20 switch: With regard to functional grounding, mount the module on a grounded DIN
rail. The functional ground of the module is grounded when it is snapped onto the DIN rail.
For the IP65 switch, the following requirement must be met: Ensure correct functional
grounding of the device, e.g, connecting the ground conductor via the mounting screw or
installation on a grounded metallic plate.
grounding protects people and machines against hazardous voltages. To avoid these
dangers to the greatest extent possible, correct grounding, taking the local conditions into
account, is vital.

4 Startup and functions
4.1 Basic settings
4.1.1 Delivery state/factory settings
Upon delivery or after the system is reset to the default settings, the following functions and
properties are available by default:
– The user name is “admin”
The password is “private”.
– All IP parameters are deleted. The switch has no valid IP parameters:
IP address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
– PROFINET DCP is activated as the addressing mechanism.
– All available RJ45 ports are activated with the following parameters:
- Auto negotiation
- Autocrossing
– All counters of the SNMP agent are deleted.
– Web server and SNMP agent are active.
–MRPisdisabled.
– In the case of the IP20 switch, the alarm contact only opens in the event of non-redun-
dant power supply.
– The aging time is set to 40 seconds.
– The switch is in “PROFINET” operating mode.
The basic Ethernet functions do not have to be configured and are available when the
supply voltage is switched on.

4.2 Frame switching
The FL SWITCH IRT functions according to the type of telegram and the set port configura-
tion in cut-through or store-and-forward mode. When receiving a data packet, the switch an-
alyzes the source and destination addresses. The switch stores MAC addresses in its ad-
dress table with an aging time of 40 seconds.
4.2.1 Cut-through
All multicast and unicast packets are forwarded via the cut-through method. The incoming
and outgoing ports must be set to 100 Mbps full duplex and the outgoing port must be
free/not transmitting. In the case of cut-through switching, after reading the telegram header
and detecting the target address, the data telegram is forwarded immediately to the receive
port.
4.2.2 Store and forward
If the switch receives broadcast telegrams or other port configurations are selected as 100
Mbps full duplex, the telegrams are saved and tested for validity. Invalid or faulty data pack-
ets (>1522 bytes or CRC errors) and fragments (<64 bytes) are rejected. Valid data tele-
grams are forwarded by the switch.
4.2.3 Multi-address function
The switch learns all the source addresses for each port. Only packets with:
– unknown source addresses
– a source address for this port or
– a multicast/broadcast address
in the destination address field are forwarded via the relevant port. This is necessary if more
than one termination device is connected to one or more ports. Several independent sub-
nets can be connected to one switch.
4.2.4 Learning addresses
The FL SWITCH IRT independently learns the addresses for termination devices, which are
connected via this port, by evaluating the source addresses in the data telegrams. When the
FL SWITCH IRT receives a data telegram, it only forwards this data telegram to the port that
connects to the specified device (if the address could be learned beforehand).
The FL SWITCH IRT learns addresses and stores them in its table. The switch monitors the
age of the learned addresses. The switch automatically deletes address entries from its ad-
dress table that have exceeded a specific age (default: 40 seconds).
All learned address entries are deleted upon restart.
