Disinfecting/Sterilizing the Mask or Nasal
Pillows System between Patients
This Disinfection/Sterilization Guide is intended for multipatient use of the
mask/nasal pillows*system in a sleep lab, clinic or hospital environment. If you
use the mask as a single user in the home, refer to the User Guide for cleaning
instructions.
The following are the recommended and validated procedures for cleaning,
disinfection and sterilization of the mask. We advise that each healthcare
facility consult its own procedures before carrying out the following
instructions.
For details on the mask refer to the User Guide. Parts that cannot be
disinfected/sterilized are listed in the table on page 5.
WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS
•ResMed cannot give any assurance that deviations from the
procedures listed below, and their effect on the performance of the
product, will be acceptable.
•The mask components should not be subjected to autoclave or
ethylene-oxide gas sterilization.
•When using detergents, disinfectants or sterilization agents, always
follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Notes:
•The headgear does not require disinfection or sterilization. However, it is
necessary to thoroughly wash the headgear before using between patients.
The cleaning procedure is detailed in the User Guide.
•The mask must be disassembled and cleaned prior to disinfection or
sterilization. The mask must also be inspected after disinfection/sterilization.
See the section "Inspection after Disinfection/Sterilization" for inspection
details.
* References to mask/s in this guide refer to ResMed masks and nasal pillows system.

After disassembly, thoroughly disinfect or sterilize the mask components by
following the procedure for one of these methods:
•Chemical Disinfection
•Thermal Disinfection
•STERRAD™Sterilization.
Option 1: Chemical Disinfection
Pre-disinfection
1Disassemble the mask.
2Clean the individual parts of the mask with a soft bristle brush for one
minute while soaking them in detergent (eg, Aniosyme™DDI or Alconox™).
Pay particular attention to all crevices and cavities.
3Rinse the components twice by agitating them vigorously in drinking quality
water (5 litres per mask) and allow them to air dry out of direct sunlight.
ResMed has tested the detergents Aniosyme DDI (diluted at 0.5% for 15
minutes) and Alconox (diluted at 1%).
Disinfection
1Soak the disinfectable mask components in a commercially available
solution of peracetic acid 0.15% (eg, Anioxyde™1000),
ortho-phthalaldehyde 0.55% (eg, CIDEX™ OPA) or glutaraldehyde 3.4%
(eg, CIDEX Plus™).
2Rinse the mask components in drinking quality water (5 litres per mask) and
allow them to air dry out of direct sunlight.
Testing by ResMed has shown that the mask components can withstand 15
cycles using solutions of peracetic acid (0.15% Anioxyde 1000 for 30 minutes),
ortho-phthalaldehyde (0.55% CIDEX OPA for 20 minutes) or glutaraldehyde
(3.4% CIDEX Plus for 20 minutes).
Note: If using the detergents and disinfectants listed above, the following
combinations should be followed:
•Detergent Aniosyme DDI with Anioxyde 1000 as the disinfectant
OR
•Detergent Alconox with disinfectant CIDEX OPA or CIDEX Plus.

Option 2: Thermal Disinfection
Pre-disinfection
1Disassemble the mask.
2Clean the individual parts of the mask with a soft bristle brush for one
minute while soaking them in detergent (eg, Neodisher™Medizyme or
Alconox). Pay particular attention to all crevices and cavities.
3Rinse the components twice by agitating them vigorously in drinking quality
water and allow them to air dry out of direct sunlight.
ResMed has tested the detergents Neodisher Medizyme (concentration at
2% for 30 minutes) and Alconox (diluted at 1%).
Disinfection
Using a certified hot water disinfection system, soak the disinfectable mask
components using one of the temperature-time combinations listed in the
following sections.
European Standards
Based on prEN ISO 15883-1, the mask has been tested at the following
temperature-time combinations:
•70°C for 100 minutes
•75°C for 30 minutes
•80°C for 10 minutes
•90°C for 1 minute.
Regional Requirements
Due to specific regional requirements, the mask has also been tested for
disinfection at the following temperature-time combination:
•93°C for 10 minutes.
Testing by ResMed has shown that the mask components can withstand
15 cycles of thermal disinfection using the above temperature-time
combinations. The device used for testing was Branson™LTH 1828-24 hot
water bath.

Option 3: STERRAD Sterilization System
Note: The Ultra Mirage™ II Nasal Mask is not validated for the STERRAD
Sterilization System.
Pre-sterilization
1Disassemble the mask.
2Clean the individual parts of the mask with a soft bristle brush for one
minute while soaking them in detergent (eg, Alconox). Pay particular
attention to all crevices and cavities.
3Rinse the components twice by agitating them vigorously in drinking quality
water and allow them to air dry out of direct sunlight.
ResMed has tested the detergent Alconox (diluted at 1%).
Sterilization
Sterilize the sterilizable mask components as described in the manufacturer’s
instructions for the STERRAD Sterilization System (eg, Sterrad 100S or
Sterrad NX).
Testing by ResMed has shown that the mask components can withstand 15
cycles of the STERRAD 100S Sterilization System, when using the tray
method.
Note: The use of pouches is not recommended.
Inspection after Disinfection/Sterilization
Perform a visual inspection of each mask component. If any visible
deterioration of a mask component is apparent (cracking, crazing, tears etc),
the mask component should be discarded and replaced. Slight discoloration of
the silicone components may occur and is acceptable.
Note: If a healthcare facility requires an additional disinfection or sterilization
process after reassembly, the number of validated cycles is halved.
Parts not Validated for Multipatient Use
Some parts of the masks have not been validated for multipatient use. These
parts need to be replaced with new parts when using between patients.

Desinfektion/Sterilisation der Maske oder
des Nasenpolstersystems bei einem
Patientenwechsel
Diese Hinweise zur Desinfektion/Sterilisation wurden für Masken- oder
Nasenpolstersysteme*zusammengestellt, die in Schlaflaboren, Schlafkliniken
oder Krankenhäusern für mehrere Patienten gebraucht werden. Wenn Sie der
einzige Benutzer der Maske sind, lesen Sie bitte die Reinigungsanweisungen
in Ihrer Bedienungsanleitung.
Die folgenden Anweisungen erläutern die empfohlenen und gültigen Verfahren
zur Reinigung, Desinfektion und Sterilisation von ResMed-Masken. Wir
empfehlen jeder Gesundheitseinrichtung vor Ausführung der folgenden
Desinfektions-/Sterilisationsvorgänge ihre eigenen Verfahren zu prüfen.
Ausführliche Hinweise zur Maske finden Sie in der Bedienungsanleitung.
Teile, die nicht desinfiziert/sterilisiert werden können, sind in der Tabelle
auf Seite 11 aufgeführt.
WARNUNGEN UND VORSICHTSMASSNAHMEN
•ResMed gibt keinerlei Garantie, dass Abweichungen von den unten
genannten Verfahren und die damit einhergehenden Auswirkungen
auf die Produktleistung annehmbar sein werden.
•Die Maskenteile dürfen nicht autoklaviert oder mit Ethylenoxidgas
sterilisiert werden.
•Folgen Sie bei der Verwendung von Reinigungs-, Desinfektions- oder
Sterilisationsmitteln den Herstelleranweisungen.
Hinweise:
•Das Kopfband muss nicht desinfiziert bzw. sterilisiert werden. Bei einem
Patientenwechsel muss es jedoch gewaschen werden. Hinweise zum
Reinigungsvorgang finden Sie in der Bedienungsanleitung.
* In dieser Anleitung enthaltene Hinweise auf Masken beziehen sich auf
ResMed-Masken und Nasenpolstersysteme.

•Die Maske muss vor der Desinfektion bzw. Sterilisation
auseinandergenommen und gereinigt werden. Außerdem ist die Maske
nach der Desinfektion/Sterilisation nochmals zu inspizieren. Ausführlichere
Hinweise dazu finden Sie im Abschnitt „Inspektion nach der Desinfektion/
Sterilisation“.
Desinfizieren oder sterilisieren Sie die Maskenteile nach dem Auseinanderbau
mit Hilfe eines der folgenden Verfahren:
•Chemische Desinfektion
•Thermische Desinfektion
•STERRAD™Sterilisation
Option 1: Chemische Desinfektion
Vordesinfektion
1Zerlegen Sie die Maske in ihre Einzelteile.
2Reinigen Sie die einzelnen Maskenteile jeweils eine Minute lang mit einer
weichen Bürste in einem Reinigungsmittel, wie z. B. Aniosyme™DDI oder
Alconox™.Achten Sie dabei insbesondere auf alle Falten und Hohlräume.
3Spülen Sie die Teile anschließend zweimal gründlich mit Trinkwasser ab
(5 Liter pro Maske) und lassen Sie sie an der Luft vor direkter
Sonneneinstrahlung geschützt trocknen.
ResMed hat die Reinigungsmittel Aniosyme DDI (0,5%ige Lösung;
15 Minuten) und Alconox (1%ige Lösung) getestet.
Desinfektion
1Weichen Sie die desinfizierbaren Maskenteile in einer handelsüblichen
Lösung aus Peressigsäure (z. B. Anioxyde™1000; 0,15 %), ortho-
Phthalaldehyd (CIDEX™OPA; 0,55 %) oder Glutaraldehyd (z. B. CIDEX
Plus™; 3,4 %) ein.
2Spülen Sie die Teile anschließend gründlich mit Trinkwasser ab (5 Liter pro
Maske) und lassen Sie sie an der Luft vor direkter Sonneneinstrahlung
geschützt trocknen.
Von ResMed durchgeführte Tests haben gezeigt, dass die Maskenteile
15 Reinigungszyklen mit Lösungen aus Peressigsäure (0,15 % Anioxyde 1000;
30 Minuten), ortho-Phthalaldehyd (0,55 % CIDEX OPA; 20 Minuten) oder
Glutaraldehyd (3,4 % CIDEX Plus; 20 Minuten) standhalten können.
Hinweis: Bei Verwendung der oben aufgeführten Reinigungs- und
Desinfiziermittel sollten die folgenden Kombinationen eingehalten werden:
•Reinigungsmittel Aniosyme DDI mit Anioxyde 1000 als Desinfiziermittel.

•Reinigungsmittel Alconox mit Desinfiziermittel CIDEX OPA oder
CIDEX Plus.
Option 2: Thermale Desinfektion
Vordesinfektion
1Zerlegen Sie die Maske in ihre Einzelteile.
2Reinigen Sie die einzelnen Maskenteile jeweils eine Minute lang mit einer
weichen Bürste in einem Reinigungsmittel wie z. B. Neodisher™
Medizymede oder Alconox.Achten Sie dabei insbesondere auf alle Falten
und Hohlräume.
3Spülen Sie die Maskenteile zweimal gründlich in Trinkwasser ab und lassen
Sie sie vor direktem Sonnenlicht geschützt an der Luft trocknen.
ResMed hat die Reinigungsmittel Neodisher Medizyme (2%ige Lösung;
30 Minuten) und Alconox (1%ige Lösung) getestet.
Desinfektion
Halten Sie beim Einweichen der Maskenteile mit einem zertifizierten
Heißwasser-Desinfektionssystem eine der unten angegebenen Zeit-
Temperatur-Kombinationen ein:
Europäische Normen
Die Maske wurde gemäß prEN ISO 15883-1 bei den folgenden Zeit-
Temperatur-Kombinationen getestet:
•70 °C – 100 Minuten

Regionale Anforderungen

Von ResMed durchgeführte Tests haben gezeigt, dass die Maskenteile unter
Einhaltung der obigen Temperatur-Zeit-Kombinationen 15 thermalen
Desinfektionszyklen standhalten können. Für die Tests wurde das Branson™
LTH 1828-24 Heißwasserbad verwendet.
