This document contains information about options for the finisher units installed with the
Color Server Pro C900/C900S. These finishers include:
• Stacker
• Booklet Processor
• Multi-hole Punch Unit
• Ring Binder
• 1-up Perfect Binder
Unless otherwise noted, the following tables display options available from the Finishing tab
of the printer driver Preferences dialog box.
Stacker settings
The following Destination settings apply to all of the finisher trays installed with your
Color Server Pro C900/C900S. Depending on your finisher configuration, some options are
not available.
For details about output tray settings when a second stacker is installed, see the stacker’s
operating instructions.

Ring Binder options
The Ring Binder has the following modes:
• Ring Bind Mode punches and binds jobs with rings.
• Punch Only Mode punches, but does not bind jobs.
When Ring Bind is selected, the Booklet Maker, Z-folding, Staple, Punch, and Punch Holes
options are unavailable.
Booklet Processor options
The Booklet Processor staples booklets with two staples, placed in the center.
Multi-hole Punch Unit options
The Multi-hole Punch Unit punches multiple holes.

Booklet Maker: 1-up Perfect Binding
The 1-up Perfect Binding method prints single body pages that are stacked together, so that
the edges may be trimmed (if required), glued, and then wrapped by a cover sheet.
Access the 1-up Perfect Binding method from Command WorkStation Job Properties.
NOTE: Do not print anything on the inner side of the cover sheet (the area glued to the
book block). Doing so can prevent the cover sheet and book block from adhering properly.
For 1-up Perfect Binding print options and available settings, see the table that begins on
page 4.
To print a 1-up Perfect booklet, you must select 1-up Perfect as the booklet type in either the
Basic or Advanced mode.
TOPRINT A1-UP PERFECT JOB
1 Send a job to the Held queue of Command WorkStation.
2 Right-click (Windows) or Ctrl-click (Mac OS) the job in the Active Jobs list and choose
Properties.
3 In the Job Properties dialog box, click the Layout icon.
4 Select the Booklet option and click Settings.
5 Click the Basic tab to use the Booklet Maker wizard to specify the booklet properties.
Click the Advanced tab to view all of the Booklet Maker options and settings in one
dialog box.
6 Choose 1-up Perfect for the Booklet Type.
7 Specify a binding edge: Left, Top, or Right.
8 Specify the booklet print options, such as trim, cover page content, body position,
and cover position.
9 Click OK in the Booklet Maker dialog box.
10 Click Print in the Job Properties dialog box.

1-up Perfect Binding Booklet options (available from Command WorkStation only)
Option Information
1-up Perfect Binding The 1-up Perfect Binding method prints single body pages that are stacked together, so that the edges
may be trimmed (if required), glued, and then wrapped by a cover sheet. To print a 1-up Perfect
Binding booklet, your copier must be equipped with an advanced finisher that supports Perfect
Binding.
Specify Left Binding for a book that reads from left to right, with the spine (binding edge) at the left.
Specify Right Binding for a book that reads from right to left, with the spine (binding edge) at
the right.
Specify Top Binding for a book that reads from top to bottom, with the spine (binding edge) at
the top.
Units Specify the units for the booklet.
Trim Specify the in-line trim capability of the perfect binder when you create a 1-up Perfect booklet.
Specify None if the booklet does not require trimming or the trimming will be done off-line.
This is the default setting.
Specify Minimum Trim if you do not need the final, trimmed booklet to be a specific, exact size.
Specify Calculate Trim From Finish Size if you want the actual trim values calculated automatically.
Specify Use Specified Values if you want to specify the trim values to achieve the desired finished
booklet size.
Face Trim Only check box Select the Face Trim Only check box if you want to perform the Face trim only. If you do not select
this option, all three trims are engaged: Head/Right, Foot/Left, and Face.
Trim Shift Specify Trim Shift if the page contents were created with an offset between Head/Foot or Left/Right
margins, and specify the adjustment required to ensure that the page contents are centered along the
spine within the finished booklet.
Body Paper Size Body Paper Size defines the paper size for the body pages of the booklet.
To select a Body Paper Size for your booklet, do one of the following:
• Choose from the list of available sizes in the Body Paper Size menu.
• Select from Paper Catalog to access a dynamic database that stores the media attributes of any
paper available for printing from the Pro C900S.
• Select Custom Paper Size to create a non-standard paper size, using the Custom Page Size width
(feed edge) and height dimensions.
The default Document size is Letter in the U.S., and A4 elsewhere.
Select Edit to define media attributes for the Body Paper Size, such as Media Type, Input Tray,
Paper Size, and Paper Catalog.
Body Paper Size Custom Width Specify a custom width (feed edge) (in millimeters or inches) for the body pages.
The feed edge is the side of the paper that goes into the copier and must be placed in the tray correctly
for the desired output.
Body Paper Size Custom Height Specify a custom height (in millimeters or inches) for the body pages.

Cover Paper Size Specify the paper size for the booklet cover.
To select a Cover Paper Size for your booklet, do one of the following:
• Choose from the list of available sizes in the Cover Paper Size menu.
• Select from Paper Catalog to access a dynamic database that stores the media attributes of any
paper available for printing from the Pro C900S.
• Select Custom Paper Size to create a non-standard paper size, using the Custom Page Size width
(feed edge) and height dimensions.
The default Document size is 11

Specify Front & Back Together to include cover content as part of the booklet in a custom document
size larger than that of the body pages.
Specify Pre-printed to insert a pre-printed cover that is merged with the body pages of your booklet,
which print separately.
Content This option is available when you specify Front & Back Together for Content Input.
Specify Outside of the cover to include content on the outside of the cover only.
Specify Both sides of the cover to include content on both the inside and outside of the cover.
Front Cover The following options allow you to quickly decide whether your front cover prints duplex, single-
sided, or both sides blank, without adding blank pages in your original document.
Specify Print on outside to print the cover content only on the outside of the front cover (the inside of
the front cover will be blank). This is the default setting.
Specify Print on inside to print the cover content only on the inside of the front cover (the outside of
the front cover will be blank).
Specify Print on both sides to print on both the inside and outside of the front cover.
Specify Do not print if you do not want any content printed on the front cover.
When you add a cover, blank pages may be inserted, depending on the allocation of pages
to signatures.
NOTE: The front cover content pages must be specified as the first and second pages within the
source document.
NOTE: This option is available when the Content input option is Front & Back Separately.

Back Cover Specify Print on outside to print the cover content only on the outside of the back cover (the inside of
the back cover will be blank). This is the default setting.
Specify Print on inside to print the cover content only on the inside of the back cover (the outside of
the back cover will be blank).
Specify Print on both sides to print on both the inside and outside of the back cover.
Specify Do not print if you do not want any content printed on the back cover.
When you add a cover, blank pages may be inserted depending on the allocation of pages to signatures.
NOTE: The back cover content pages must be specified as the second to last and last pages within the
source document.
NOTE: This option is available when the Content Input option is Front & Back Separately.
Spine Width
(0.0-23.0mm or
0.000 - 0.906inches)
Specify the value for the spine width of the booklet. The spine width value is used to determine the
trim amount, and cover paper size.
When the Cover input option is Front & Back Separately, the spine width value is used to determine
the distance between the front and back cover content.
When the Cover input option is Front & Back Together or Pre-printed, the cover content has already
been printed or included in the document source, therefore the spine width does not alter the cover
layout.
Spine Content Specify None if you wish to not print on the spine of the booklet. This is the default setting.
Specify Document Page to print content on the spine of the booklet. Printing of the spine is achieved
by using the last document page as the spine.
For top binding, the spine content is rotated 180 degrees to ensure the spine content is in the correct
orientation for reading.
NOTE: This option is available when the Content Input option is Front & Back Separately.
Booklet Scaling Specify Shrink to Body Size to automatically scale down the document page to fit the paper size
specified from the Body Paper Size menu
Specify Shrink to Finish Size to automatically scale down the document page to fit the desired finished
booklet size.
Specify None when booklet scaling is not necessary. This is the default setting.
Centering Adjustment Centering Adjustment positions page content in relation to the center of one-half the paper size or the
spine, the center of the sheet where the fold occurs.
At the spine aligns the body page content flush against the binding edge. This is the default setting.
At the center centers the content horizontally and vertically within the body page.
You can fine-tune the alignment of the page content vertically (parallel to the spine) or horizontally
(perpendicular to the spine) by specifying values.

Booklet Maker
Booklet Maker is the imposition tool that allows you to quickly print documents in booklet
format, without the need for more involved page imposition programs. Booklet Maker
provides advanced settings, while streamlining the booklet-making process by displaying only
the options and controls relevant to your selections. Booklet Maker is capable of imposing
jobs from nearly any application.
Booklet Maker can be accessed in the printer driver when you print a job or in Command
WorkStation Job Properties, where you can modify a job’s properties.
Body Position Custom
0.00 (-50.0 to 50.0mm
or -1.968 to 1.968 inches)
You can fine-tune the alignment of the body page content to be centered vertically (parallel to the
spine) and horizontally (perpendicular to the spine) by specifying a value.
Specify a positive value to increase the amount of blank space between the body pages and the binding
edge.
Specify a negative value to decrease the amount of blank space between the body pages and the binding
edge.
Cover Position
0.00 (-50.0 to 50.0mm or

Specify the placement of the cover content to be centered vertically and horizontally within the cover

The following booklet layouts are available:
Saddle binding: In Saddle binding, signatures are folded together as a group, and then stapled
or stitched along the center fold, which forms the spine of the booklet.
Nested Saddle: The Nested Saddle binding method combines saddle and perfect binding
methods by stacking two or more saddles (also called “groups” or “subsets”) together
along the common fold, then gluing them together at the fold to form the spine.
Perfect Binding: In Perfect Binding, separate folded pages are printed and stacked in
booklet order. Finished pages are stitched adjacent to one another for trimming or gluing.

Booklet Maker in the printer driver
To use Booklet Maker to print a booklet from the printer driver, use one of the
following procedures.
TOACCESS BOOKLET MAKER FROM THE WINDOWS PRINTER DRIVER
1 In your application, choose File> Print.
2 Select the Pro C900S as your copier, and then click Properties.
3 In printer driver, click the Layout icon, select the Booklet option, and then click Settings.
TOACCESS BOOKLET MAKER FROM THE MAC OS X PRINTER DRIVER
1 In your application, choose File> Print.
2 Select the Pro C900S as your copier, and then choose Fiery Features from the drop-down list.
3 Click Full Properties in the Quick Access pane.
4 In printer driver, click the Layout icon, select the Booklet option, and then click Settings.
Booklet Maker in Job Properties
You can choose to work with Booklet Maker in Job Properties in two ways:
• Using the Booklet Maker wizard
Recommended for first-time or novice users
• Specifying settings in the main Booklet Maker dialog box
Recommended for experienced or advanced users
To access Booklet Maker from Command WorkStation Job Properties, use the
following procedure.
TOACCESS BOOKLET MAKER FROM COMMAND WORKSTATION
1 Double-click the print job in the Active Jobs window; or right-click the job and select
Properties from the pull-down menu.
2 Select the Layout icon in the Job Properties window.
3 Select the Booklet option and click Settings.
4 Click the Basic tab to access the Booklet Maker wizard, or click the Advanced tab to access all
of the Booklet Maker settings in one dialog box.

About Booklet Maker imposition
Imposition is the process of printing multiple pages on single sheets of paper. When the
imposed sheets are folded together as signatures, the pages follow in sequential, or reading,
order. Booklet Maker is designed for 2-up imposition, which imposes four individual pages
from your document on a single sheet that is printed duplex.
The Copier Main Unit is equipped with an advanced finisher, that also allows 1-up Perfect
Binding. For more information, see “Booklet Maker: 1-up Perfect Binding” on page 3.
The order in which pages are imposed is determined by the binding method that you select.
Booklet Maker and Impose
Booklet Maker settings are supported by Impose, if enabled. You can open a job with Booklet
Maker settings in Impose to preview the imposition layout or further modify imposition
layout, if necessary.
Impose translates and maps all Booklet Maker settings to Impose commands.
NOTE: When a job with Booklet Maker settings is edited in the Impose window, the job can
no longer be edited in Booklet Maker. Impose offers more settings that cannot be mapped to
Booklet Maker settings.

Main Booklet Maker window
When you click the Advanced tab in the Booklet Maker main window, Booklet Maker
dynamically displays all of the controls applicable to creating a booklet.
TOCREATE ABOOKLET
1 Select a Booklet Type: Saddle, Nested Saddle, or Perfect.
For 1-up Perfect Binding, see “Booklet Maker: 1-up Perfect Binding” on page 3.
2 Select a binding edge: Left, Top, or Right.
3 Specify a Paper size.
4 Select Shrink to Fit, if required.
5 Specify Page Alignment.
6 Specify Creep compensation, if required.
Creep compensation is available for Saddle and Nested Saddle booklets.
7 Specify cover settings, if you selected a Saddle booklet in step 1.
NOTE: Cover settings are only available for Saddle booklets. For more information, see
“Adding a cover” on page 23.
8 Click OK to save your settings, Cancel to cancel the job, or Print to print your job.

Booklet Maker wizard
In the Booklet Maker wizard, accessed by clicking the Basic tab, the windows display the steps
in the booklet-making process.
TONAVIGATE THE WIZARD
• To advance from one window to the next, click Next.
• To return to previous windows, click Back.
• To cancel settings and exit Booklet Maker, click Cancel.
TOCREATE ABOOKLET USING THE WIZARD
1 Specify Booklet Type (binding method) and Binding edge.
2 If Saddle was selected for Booklet Type, specify cover settings and content.
3 Specify Paper size.
4 If Nested Saddle was selected for Booklet Type, specify number of sheets in a subset.
5 Specify Page alignment and gutters.
6 If Saddle or Nested Saddle was selected for Booklet Type, specify Creep compensation.
7 View the settings summary.
8 Click Finish to save your booklet, Back to change any settings, or Cancel to cancel the job.
Booklet Type
When creating a booklet you must first select the Booklet Type and the binding edge. When
you select a Booklet Type, you choose a binding method, which determines the way the job is
imposed. The binding edge determines the placement of the spine, the layout orientation,
and any rotation of page content in your booklet.
Binding method
Booklet Maker supports the following binding methods:
• Saddle
• Nested Saddle
• Perfect
• 1-up Perfect Binding

Saddle
Saddle binding, also called saddle-stitch binding, is the simplest binding method. In Saddle
binding, the signatures are folded together as a group, and then stapled or stitched along the
center fold, or spine. In Saddle booklets, creep is a factor.
Saddle binding includes pre-printed and inline cover options.
The following illustration shows Saddle, left-edge binding imposition for a 12-page
document.
The following illustration shows how the signatures of a 12-page saddle booklet are folded
together as a group.
Nested Saddle
Nested Saddle binding joins two or more saddle booklets (called “subsets”) to form a larger
booklet. The subsets are stacked along the common fold, or spine, for stitching or gluing after
printing. In Nested Saddle booklets, creep is a factor.
Number of sheets in a subset (saddle): Use this option to specify the number of sheets in
each subset.

document with two sheets (equivalent to eight document pages) per subset.
The following illustration shows how the signatures of a 16-page Nested Saddle booklet are
folded and the subsets grouped together.
Perfect
In Perfect Binding, the signatures are folded individually and stacked along the common fold,
which forms the spine of the booklet. The Perfect Binding process is more involved (the spine
must be roughened to flatten before it is glued to the cover) and tends to require a larger
gutter. In Perfect booklets, creep is not a factor.

Binding edge
Booklet Maker has the following binding edge options:
•Left Binding is typically used for languages that read from left to right. The booklet opens
from right to left.
•Right Binding is typically used for languages that read from right to left. The booklet opens
from left to right.
•Top Binding is typically used for calendars, landscape- and cinema-size documents. The
booklet opens upward.
NOTE: With top binding that includes a cover, the outside of the back cover automatically
rotates 180 degrees to match the orientation of the front cover.

Paper size
Paper size is the actual size of the sheet of paper (unfolded) on which your booklet is printed.
In designing your booklet, it may be useful to think of your document size as the digital input
(the page size defined in your original document), and paper size as the physical output (the
dimensions of the actual piece of paper in the copier tray).
Selecting a paper size
When you select a paper size for your booklet, there are two basic options:
• Preserve document page size
• Shrink document page to fit a selected paper size
NOTE: The Shrink to fit option only scales down or reduces the document page size. Shrink to
fit does not scale up or enlarge. For more information, see “Shrink to fit” on page 17.
Preserve document page size
To keep your document page size the same as in your original file, you must select a paper size
that is at least twice the size of your document page.
For example, an 8.5
x 11 in. document prints on an 11 x 17 in. sheet of paper:
Or an A4-size document (297
x 210 mm) prints on A3 paper (297 x 420 mm):
NOTE: The preceding examples illustrate paper sizes within the same series (A4 to A3) or
standard (Letter to Tabloid). Booklet Maker can also impose from one series to another
(for example, A4 to Letter). For more information, see “Shrink to fit” on page 17.

Shrink document page to fit a selected paper size
To scale down your document pages to fit a particular paper size, choose the required size
from the Paper size menu. Booklet Maker automatically shrinks document pages to fit the
selected paper size, preserving the aspect ratio of your original document.
For example, if your document size is 8.5
x 11 in. and you select 8.5 x 11 in. from the Paper
size menu, the document pages are scaled down to fit two 5.5
x 8.5 in., side-by-side pages:
Or, if your document size is A4 (297
x 210 mm) and you select A4 from the Paper size menu,
the document pages are scaled down to fit two 210
x 148.5 mm, side-by-side pages:
NOTE: The Shrink to fit option only reduces or scales down the document page size. Shrink to

Document size
Document size refers to the size of each page in your original document. In designing your
booklet, it may be useful to think of document size as the digital input (the page size defined
in your original document), and paper size as the physical output (the dimensions of the actual
piece of paper in the copier tray).
Document size is defined in your application’s Print setup (or Page setup) dialog box.
NOTE: The size defined in your application’s formatting menu may differ from the size defined
in your application’s Print setup (or Page setup) dialog box. The size that is relevant to Booklet
Maker is defined in your application’s Print Setup (or Page Setup) dialog box.
NOTE: When you select a Document size in Print setup (or Page setup), it is not necessary to
consider the edge feed associated with the paper size that you select.

Custom sizes
Booklet Maker supports custom page sizes for the body pages and cover pages of your booklet.
The minimum and maximum custom page sizes depend on your copier capability.
Edge feed
Edge feed is the side of the paper that first enters the copier. The feed direction (short-edge
feed or long-edge feed) is associated with certain paper sizes.
When you select a document size, the feed direction associated with the paper is not relevant.
However, the finisher may require edge feed in a certain direction. In Booklet Maker, paper
sizes with feed direction that are not supported by the finisher appear dimmed in the list of
available sizes.
Shrink to fit
By default, Booklet Maker is designed to scale down the pages of your document to fit the
paper size you select, while preserving the aspect ratio of your original document.
Based on the page size in your document size and the paper size you select, Booklet Maker
automatically calculates the scale factor as follows:
NOTE: The Shrink to fit option only reduces or scales down the document page size.
Shrink to fit does not scale up or enlarge.
Shrink to fit On
Based on the document size and the paper size that you select, Booklet Maker automatically
scales document pages to fit on one-half the selected Paper size.
For example, a 13
x 19 in. document is scaled down to fit one-half of an 11x 17 in. sheet
of paper (one-half = 8.5
x 11 in.):

Booklet Maker can impose differing or non-standard sizes.
For example, an A4 document is scaled down to fit Letter-size paper, which equals 5.5
x 8.5 in.
(one-half of an 8.5
x 11 in./Letter-size sheet of paper):
Shrink to fit Off
If Shrink to fit is Off, the pages of your document print at 100%. Any page content that
extends beyond one-half of the selected paper size is clipped.
In some cases, clipping may be your intent. For example, if your document includes printer’s
marks that extend the document size beyond one-half the paper size, turn Shrink to fit Off so
that the content prints at 100%, otherwise the entire page (including the printer’s marks) is
scaled down to fit within the specified paper size.
Likewise, if your document size is designed to be larger than one-half the paper size in order

Page alignment
Booklet Maker includes the following options to position and fine-tune the placement of
page content:
•Align Pages: Use this option to align page content with the spine or to center on the page.
•Gutters: Use the Increase gutters by option to add extra space to allow for binding.
•Creep compensation: Use this option to counteract the shift in page content that occurs in
Saddle and Nested Saddle booklets.
Page alignment does not alter the page layout defined in your original document. Page
alignment shifts the entire page content (printable area plus margins).
The Page alignment options do not change the scale factor. When Shrink to fit is set to Off,
clipping occurs if the document extends beyond the edge of the paper. If clipping is not your
intent, you can use the Align pages and Gutter options to adjust the position of page content.
Align pages
The Align pages option controls the initial position of page content, At the spine or At the
center:
At the spine (default) aligns document page content flush with the spine, at the center of the
sheet where the fold will occur:
At the center positions document page content at the center of one-half of the sheet size:
