1. INTRODUCTION
 Operator’s manual is attached to every machine in order that the operator can familiarize himself
with design, working principles, service and adjustment of the mower. The user of the mower
should be familiar with common safety rules and procedures.
 The mower is manufactured according to international safety rules.
 Compliance with the warnings in this operator’s manual will ensure safe operation.
 Please contact your dealer if you have any queries relating to the operation and service of the
mower.
 Operator’s manual remains part of mower’s equipment.

Operation of the mower before reading the operator’s manual carefully as
well as operating by the unauthorized staff, especially by children, is

Drive from tractor’s rpm is transmitted through PTO shaft, intersecting axis gear (5), cutterbar drive
shaft (7) and intersecting axis gear (6) to the cutterbar (4). On the cutterbar there are discs with two
knives each. The extreme discs have additional forming drums. Apart from that, drive from tractor’s
rpm through intersecting axis gear (5), tine conditioner driver shaft (8) and tine conditioner gearbox
(9) is transmitted to tine conditioner (3). Cutterbar is connected to the main frame (2) along with
suspension frame (1). On the suspension frame there is mower’s triangle, which is designed to connect

2.3. Proper use
SaMASZ rear trailed disc mower with tine/roller conditioner is designed for mowing standing grass on
meadows and in stone free fields. It is a machine for hay and green fodder production. Tine/roller
conditioner provides effective conditioning and accelerates drying of the forage. Roller conditioner is
recommended in case of fragile crops like lucerne (alfalfa). It reduces leaf loss to an absolute
minimum.
CAUTION:
Use of the mower for other purposes than above mentioned
is forbidden.
Well-proven design with thousands of machines in regular use in many countries and
quality materials ensure high durability and reliability of SaMASZ mowers .

The mowers are sold with the following standard equipment:

CAUTION:
Lubricate the PTO shaft with high quality multi-purpose grease
every 8 shaft operating hours. If access holes are available,
lubricate fittings through access holes. E-kits need lubrication
every 50 hours. See decal on guard if applicable.
PTO shafts of other brands with equivalent parameters could be used afer SaMASZ permission.
Make sure that you use proper PTO shaft, because using PTO shaft without friction and overrunning
clutch makes the warranty invalid
CAUTION:
Optional extra equipment should be ordered separately.
The mower is equipped with such elements as holders and brackets used to mount warning lights and
plates. Combined lights and reflectors are mounted on the warning plates.

3. SAFETY ADVICE
3.1 Safety rules and regulations
 Any operation with the hydraulic lift lever should be done from the operator’s seat; DO NOT
move the lever from outsider of the tractor.
In case of tractors equipped with EHR, operating with hydraul;ic lift is done by the buttons
mounted outsider the tractor’s cabin. When operating be extremely careful.
 Operation without safety guards as well as with the damaged or raised guards is not allowed
(danger of the stones, etc. being thrown out).
 Start mowing only when the tractor’s PTO reaches its normal 1000 rpm.
 DO NOT exceed 1050 PTO rpm.
 Nobody is allowed to remain within the danger area of at least 50 m. Particular caution is
necessary when operating near roads and in stoney areas.
 Any maintenance and adjustment work should only be done after the drive has been disconnected
and when the cutting discs have come to a complete standstill.
 Always check mower before starting work, in particular for damaged, missing and/or worn knives
and knife holders. Damaged or worn parts must be replaced.
 When driving on public roads always comply with local traffic regulations, especially concerning
warning lights.
CAUTION:
All service and repair operations must be done only after the tractor
engine has been stopped, all rotating parts have come to the complete
standstill and the cutterbar is on the ground.
CAUTION:
Be certain that children and animals are at a safe distance away from the
machine. Never allow anyone to ride on a machine or tractor.
 When the mower is lifted for repair on the 3-point-linkage, it should be secured against
falling by a mechanical support or by chain.
 The bolts and other fasteners have to be periodically checked and, if necessary, tightened or
replaced. DO NOT work with damaged or worn fasteners.
 Never lift the mower on tractor linkage when the drive is on and the cutting discs are rotating.

3.2. Safety decals

c) please order new decals from your dealer or supplier.

4. TRANSPORT AND WORKING POSITIONS
4.1. Mounting the mower on tractor’s triangle cat. II
CAUTION:
The manufacturer is not responsible for mower‘s damage, if it is caused
by improper mounting.
Unmounting of the mower may cause the following damages:
-bending of mower’s guards by the tractor,
-damage of PTO shaft,
-damage of the gear and other parts of the mower.
During operation check mounting of the mower.
The mower is mounted on the tractor’s triangle which is connected to the tractor’s front
3-point linkage (the tractor’s triangle cat. II is NOT a part of standard equipment – it
can be ordered from SaMASZ as optional extra equipment).
When the triangle is connected to the tractor’s 3-point linkage, adjust it (by means of
upper link) in parallel to the mower’s triangle, lift the 3-point linkage until it locks in,
check the space between (1) triangle’s hook and pawl (2) (fig. 4a.), block the hook (1)
with cotter pin ∅4 (2) (fig. 4b.), adjust the space between the frame suspension and a
rubber safety bumper to about 150 mm (fig. 4), regulate and mount support chains,
block them with cotter pins according to 4.3.

CAUTION:
Different mounting of the PTO shaft may damage PTO shaft,

4.2. Adjusting the clearance between triangle’s hook and lock
After the mower has been mounted and lifted and the clearance between triangle’s hook and lock has
more than 1 mm (fig. 5a.), please do the following:

 By means of the bolt (2) adjust the clearance between triangle’s hook and lock ( fig. 8.),
4.3. Adjusting the length of support chains
 lift the mower on the tractor’s lift until the space between the frame suspension and a rubber safety
bumper reaches about 15 cm (fig. 4),
 tighten the chains and check where to block them,
 lift the mower higher and block the chains with pins,
 lower the mower until the chains tighten,
 check the space between the frame suspension and a rubber safety bumper. If the space is lower or
higher than 15 cm, correct it (fig. 4. and fig. 5).
4.4. Preparing the mower for transport
1. lift the side safety guards (Fig. 8b.),
2. lift the cutterbar by means of hydraulic cylinders,
3. by means of hydraulic cylinders lift the cutterbar,
4. close the lock and hydraulic shut-off valves situated near the cylinders (Fig. 8a)
5. when driving on public roads always comply with local traffic regulations, especially concerning
warning lights,
6. when driving pay particular attention to the space around the tractor-mower set.
7. when driving after sunset, please turn on the lights

4.5. Mounting PTO shaft
PTO shaft’s end with friction clutch should be mounted on mower’s side.
When connecting PTO shaft between tractor and mower make sure, that external guard tube of the
shaft is on the tracor’s side. The PTO shaft plastic guards have to be secured by fastening their small
chains to immovable parts of tractor and mower.
CAUTION:
If need be, shorten the PTO haft according to its operator’s manual.
CAUTION:
Use the machines with PTO shafts designed to drive them. Before
the work begins, check the safety guards (in tractor, mower and
PTO shaft), if they are placed correctly and are not damaged.
Damaged or lost parts must be replaced with genuine ones. Make
sure the PTO shaft is properly mounted. It is forbidden to approach
the rotating parts, because it may lead to serious injuries or even
death. All service and repair operations must be done only after the
tractor engine has been stopped, all rotating parts have come to the
complete standstill and the cutterbar is on the ground. Before the
operation begins, read operator’s manuals of both the machine and
PTO shaft.

CAUTION:
PTO shaft’s end with friction clutch should be mounted on
mower’s side.
4.6. Preparing the mower for work
Before the work begins, please carry out the procedures included in the previous chapters and after
that the mower is considered to be ready for work, and then:
 lower the mower until the cutterbar comes into contact with the ground,
 by means of upper regulating bar of the mower, adjust the cutterbar’s height and inclination
towards the ground. Proper inclination of the cutterbar is between 4° and 5°. It is regulated by
extending or shortening the bar,
 open the lock the shut-off valves (Fig. 9)
 slowly engage the PTO clutch and wait until the cutting unit reaches its rated speed,
 engage tractor gear and drive slowly into the grass-field,
Support chain holds up tractor’s hydraulic cylinders and maintains mower’s level.
CAUTION:
DO NOT pull the cutterbar in other way (towards the tractor),
because it will lead to cutterbar’s premature wear or even its damage.

4.7. Operation (mowing)
4.7.1.Adjusting the mower to work conditions.
- Optimum inclination of the cutterbar towards the ground is between 4° to 5°. If the inclination
exceeds 5°, there might be a slight unevenness of the mowed grass. It impairs slightly the quality of
mowing and has an influence on mower’s operation. When the cutterbar is pulled in the other way, it
significantly impairs the quality of mowing and in some cases the mower stops mowing. Besides, it
may lead to premature wear or even damage of the slides and cutterbar.
- Too high PTO rpm whirl the air, which may cause the inclination of the grass in front of the discs. It
impairs the quality of mowing.
- Too low PTO rpm impair the quality of mowing and in some cases the mower stops mowing.(too
low linear velocity of the knife).
- In case of mowing low grass, front safety guard should be lifted to reduce blasts of wind around the
discs and reduce the pressure of the safety guard on the grass.
- In case of mowing soft meadows the pressure of the cutterbar on the ground should be reduced by
adjusting support springs.
4.7.2. Taking turns over swaths.
Lift the mower with hydraulic cylinder and take the turn. The mower does not need to be additionaly
lifted by tractor’s 3-point linkage.

5. MOUNTING AND ADJUSTMENTS
5.1. Mounting and timing of the knives
The knives should be mounted as shown in fig. 11,12 and 13, according to the rule, that the cutting
edges should be directed towards ground, so that a knife will lift the grass after cutting.

5.2. Replacing the knives
Worn and/or damaged knives should be immediately replaced.
Replace knives, if necessary, only in sets. Make sure all knives in a set are of the same length and
weight. The knife holders must not be damaged or deformed. If the knife holder pin (Fig. 18) is worn
too much, please replace it immediately.
CAUTION:
When replacing knives the engine must be stopped and the
cutterbar must lie on the ground.

CAUTION:
Before you change the knife check disc turns ( Fig. 13, Fig.14. )
CAUTION:
Different mounting of the knives will block the mower. When
mounting pay particular attention to loose rotation of the knife on
the knife holder pin.
CAUTION:
Because of high discs rpm, knife holders should be changed in sets
of the same weight – on every holder there is its weight written.
Improperly changed knife holders will damage disc bearings.
5.3. Adjusting the space between tine conditioner’s mask and its shaft.
(Models: KDF 260S and KDF 300S)
Depending on size and thickness of the mowing grass, there may be a necessity to adjust the mask of
the conditioner. The higher and thicker grass, the bigger the space between conditioner’s mask and its
shaft should be. Proper adjustment should be based on the experience, in order not to block the
conditioner and not to activate the friction clutch of PTO shaft. The way how the mask is regulated is
shown in Fig. 15.

5.4. Replacing the conditioner’s tines
(Models: KDF 260S and KDF 300S)
Worn tines must be immediately replaced with new ones. Each time, before the work begins, check the
conditioner’s tines along with the bolts on which the tines are mounted.
CAUTION:
Use genuine bolts and nuts shown in spare parts list.

5.5. Adjusting force of the pressure of roller
conditioner

If need be, the force of the roller conditioner’s pressure can be regulated by changing the tension of
springs S(Fig. 17.) by means of the nut N. Adjustment should be done on both sides of the
conditioner.

5.6. Maintenance and service
5.6.1.Checking the knives and knife holders
All knives should have the same lengths and weights. Always check mower before starting work for
damaged, missing and/or worn knives. Replace them, if necessary, only in sets. Make sure all knives
in a set are of the same length and weight.
If the knife holder pin is worn too much and/or the knife holder is worn or deformed, please replace it
immediately (Fig. 18)
