1. IDENTIFYING THE MACHINE
Data plate (Fig.2) is permanently mounted on the mower's main frame in place shown below
on Fig.1.

Data plate includes:
- name of the manufacturer, - weight,
- rakes number, - quality management sign,
- rakes symbol, - CE marking means that the machine is conform with
- date of manufacture, Directive 2006/42/EC and harmonized standards.
- version number, - MADE IN POLAND sign,
- barcode.
NOTE:
For more detailed information on the machine ask the manufacturer or your
dealer.
2. INTRODUCTION
 This operator's manual should be considered the rakes’ basic equipment. If the rakes is handed
over to another operator, it should be in working condition, along with operator's manual, EC
declaration of conformity and its basic equipment.
 Prior to operating the rakes its user must familiarize himself with this manual as well as
common work safety rules.
 The rake is manufactured in accordance with safety standards requirements.
 Respecting recommendations herein shall ensure operation safety.
 If you have any questions concerning commission and operation of the rake, please contact the
manufacturer.
 Operator's manual remains an integral part of the rake equipment.
GENERAL PRECAUTION
When operating the rake warnings and safety rules marked with this
sign herein should be respected.
NOTE:
Operating the rake without previous familiarizing with its contents as well as
by unauthorized personnel, particularly by children, is strictly forbidden.

3. DESIGNATION
In-line rake DUO 680 is designed to rake up green forage, dried forage and hay.Rake DUO
680 works properly with tractors of 2.0 class with power from 50 HP. Rake can only be used by
personnel, who learned the machine’s technical specification, dangers which go together with its
operation and ways to avoid them.
NOTE:
Use of the rake for purposes other than mentioned herein is forbidden.
Different use than the above mentioned shall be considered as improper and
may lead to revoking of the warranty. The machine should be operated,
maintained and repaired only by personnel who are learned with its detailed
specifications and safety rules and procedures. Willful modifications to the
rake may lead to revoking of the warranty.

3.2. Design and operation

Tiller (1) enables mounting the rakes on 3-point linkage beam, which is part of each tractor's
equipment. Drive from tractor's PTO is transmitted through intersecting axis gear (2) onto front
rotor gear by a shaft located in rakes' front linkage (16). Rear rotor gear (21) is driven by gear (2),
roller located inside the linkage (5) and roller with homo-kinetic joint (18). Both rotors are
equipped with numerous raking arms (8, 3). Safety guards (13) reduce the risk of unwanted objects
to get into area of rotating rotor arms. The rake is equipped with adjustable swath guard both on
front and rear raking assembly (20, 15). Both assemblies are guided onto carts (14, 19)

3.3. Standard equipment and spare parts

NOTE:
PTO shaft lubrication frequency must be respected. Points shown on Fig. 4
shall be lubricated every 50 hours. PTO shaft should also be lubricated prior
to and after longer idle period.
PTO shafts of other brands with equivalent technical parameters may be used on the
SaMASZ permission.

4. SAFETY ADVICE AND WARNING
4.1. Safety rules and regulations
 Front axis of the tractor should be well weighted to keep the balance. If need be, use front wheel
weights,
 Any operation with the hydraulic lift lever should be conducted from the operator's seat; DO
NOT move the lever from outside of the tractor,
In case of tractors equipped with EHR, controlling with hydraulic lift is conducted with a button
located outside the tractor's cabin. When operating, please be extremely careful,
 Operating without safety guards is not permitted,
 No unauthorized personnel is allowed to remain within the danger area of at least 50 m from the
rake. Keep particular caution when operating near roads and in stony areas,
 Any maintenance and -adjustment work is allowed only with the drive disconnected and the
rotor in complete standstill.
 When driving on public roads always respect the local traffic regulations concerning warning
lights-, while the rake shall be equipped with required safety devices.
NOTE:
Any service and repair operations should be conducted with the tractor drive
disconnected and all rotating parts in the complete standstill.
NOTE:
Keep the children away from the machine both in operation and standstill.
 The bolts and other fasteners should be inspected on regular basis. Operating with damaged or
worn fasteners is not admissible,
 When operating the rake, please comply with the Resolution of the Minister of Agriculture and
Food Economy of 12-01-1998 on work safety when operating tractors, machines, technical
instruments and devices used in farming Dz. U. nr 12/98 poz. 51,
 When operating the rake, the tractor should always be equipped with operator's cabin,
 Rake should not be operated when the tractor-mower set is not well balanced,
 The rake shall never be started when it is lifted,
 The rake shall never be started, with people or animals near the machine,
 Always comply with safety decals describing hazards, and warning signs placed on the
machine,
 Before the tractor is started, make sure, that all drives are turned off.
 Do not let the tractor's engine operate without any supervision. Before leaving the tractor, the
engine shall be disconnected and the key put off from the tractor ignition switch,
 Driving the rake backwards when operating is forbidden,
 Never get onto the rake,
 Never stand between the tractor and the rake, before tractor-mower set is secured against
moving by means of the tractor parking brake,
 Any maintenance checkups and regulations may be conducted only when the rake is
disassembled and on the ground,
 If any maintenance or adjustment works under the lifted rake are necessary, it must be secured
against falling with a support,
 If any part of the rake needs to be replaced, use only genuine spare parts according to spare part
list,

 Pay particular attention to PTO shaft guards and spline shaft guards. Never operate with
damaged guards,
 The rake should be stored under roof and in manner that effectively prevents animals and people
from being injured.
4.2. Transport
 Any modifications in the rake's position are possible only if no unauthorized personnel is
around (children in particular).
 When transported the rake shall have mobile warning light device and warning triangle mounted
for slow driving vehicle.
 When transported the rake should always be set in transport position. See chapter 5.2.
 Prior to putting the rake to transport position make sure, that the tractor PTO is disconnected
and all the rotating parts in complete standstill.
 Driving speed should always be adjusted to current road conditions.
 Do not exceed permissible speed of 25 km/h.
4.2.1. Putting machines onto another vehicle for transport
Both the carrier and the driver shall be responsible for the rake transport safety. Any
equipment and parts must be secured properly for transport.
In order to have the rakes relocated safely onto another vehicle, please follow these rules:
 The rake should be seized by any lifting device only in places indicated on the machine by the
hook sign.
 To lift the rake, use only lifting devices with hoisting capacity bigger than the rakes weight
provided on data plate. It also concerns ropes and chains used for lifting.
 Collapsible elements should be locked in transport position.
 When relocating the rake onto another vehicle, there should be no unauthorized personnel
permitted to remain within the danger area.
 The rake should be protected from shifting on the vehicle's trailer.
NOTE:
Securing both the danger area and activity performed shall lie under
the responsibility of the person in charge of the machine transporting.
4.3. Operating parts
 Prior to operating the rakes check the rotor and the tine condition.
 Worn or damaged tines should be replaced immediately with new ones.
4.4. PTO shaft
 Use only the rake's manufacturer recommended PTO shafts.
4.5. Residual risk
Despite the fact, that SaMASZ company – the manufacturer of the rake takes the
responsibility for the rakes design and manufacturing, in order to eliminate hazard, certain risk
when operating the machine is unavoidable.
4.5.1. Danger of catching
This kind of risk occurs when the rake's position is changed, when operating near rotating
parts, operating without safety guards.

When operating, maintenance and regulation works are conducted always wear protective gloves,
footwear and clothing with no loose parts, belts, etc. Always comply with safety decals placed on
the rake.
4.5.2. Danger of wound
This kind of risk appears when operating parts with sharp edges are replaced. For any repair
and maintenance works always wear safety gloves.
NOTE:
Residual risk results from incorrect behavior of the machine's operator.
4.5.3. Bans
Bear in mind the following bans when operating the rakes:
 Do not unblock the rake, make any adjustments or repairs when the mower is operating.
 Never change the sequence of operation and maintenance works specified in the operator's
manual.
 Never operate the rake when its working condition is poor or has safety guards damaged.
 Never get your limbs close to rake's rotating parts.
 During the rake's repair and maintenance works always comply with the descriptions included
in the operator's manual, while conducting them with the tractor drive disconnected.
 Prior to approaching any works, focus your attention solely on the tasks to do.
 Never operate the rakes being under influence of alcohol, drugs, or strong medicines.
 Wear clothing that is not too loose, nor too tight. Too loose clothing elements may be pulled in
by the machine's rotating parts.
 The rake cannot be operated by children nor handicapped people.
When describing residual risk, the rake shall be considered a machine, which until the moment
of production launching had been designed and manufactured in accordance with top technology
level actual as per the machine manufacture date.
NOTE:
There is possibility of residual risk if not complying with specified
instructions and bans.
When the risk of being exposed to noise cannot be avoided or eliminated by
any group protective means or organization of work, employer (operator) must:
1) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection, if the noise
level in work place exceeds 80 dB.
2) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection and supervise
its proper use, if the noise level in work place reaches or exceeds 85 dB.

4.6. Safety decals and their meaning

a) all warning decals (labels) should be clean and legible,
b) lost or damaged decals (labels) must be replaced,
c) new decals (labels) may be ordered at the manufacturer.

5. OPERATING RAKE
5.1. Mounting rake on tractor
DUO 680 Rake is designed to mount on tractors with 3-point linkage beam (3). Rake's tiller
(2) should be coupled with beam (3) with use of pin (4) and protected with cotter (5).

5.2. Preparing rake for transport
DUO 680 In-line Rake can be quickly switched to transport position, which results in
obtaining width of 3 m, and upon dismounting raking arms and installing safety guards reducing it
down to 2.4 m.
In order to prepare the rake lifted on the tractor for transport - the following - should be done:
 Set rear rotor so it is perfectly aligned with the front by means of turn cylinder (Fig. 7),
 Upon switching the cylinder drive the tractor until the rear rotor is aligned with the front one,
 If need be, adjust the cylinder by driving the tractor forward,

 Lift rear swath guard up,

 Unlock the cotter of front swath guard,
 Remove the cotter from front guard part,
 Mount swath guard onto transport holder located on the linkage (Fig. 9),
 Lock the guard in the holder with the cotter,

In the above case rake's transport width is 3 m as provided on the above figure 10.
If the operator needs smaller transport width, e.g. for putting the machine in a room or for
driving a narrow access road, reducing transport width down to 2.4 m is possible, and the following
should be performed:
 Unlock, dismount and place raking arms in transport holder (Fig. 11),

 Unlock, push-in and again lock safety guards of the front rotor,

 Lift until rear rotor's guard is locked (Fig. 13),

On below figure (Fig. 14) DUO 680 Rake's dimensions are provided with raking arms
dismounted and safety guards installed.

5.3. Preparing rake for transport on public roads.
To meet safety precautions concerning transport on the public roads the mower should be
equipped with warning plates (these can be found with the machine set).
NOTE:
If the machine purchaser does not own the above warning plates, these can
be ordered at the manufacturer.

5.4. Preparing rake for transportation on a large truck
In order to reduce its length when transported on a large truck it is possible for DUO 680
Rake to dismount both front and rear rotor.

In order to dismount both rotors, perform the following:
 disconnect drive shaft from rear rotor and intermediate shaft located in the middle section of
linkage (Fig. 16),
 disconnect hydraulic hoses in linking point,
NOTE:
Prior to disconnecting hydraulic hoses carts of the rakes must be in lowered
position. Disconnecting the hoses in the lifted position may lead to
accidental machine falling.
 unscrew eight mounting bolts for both linkage segments supporting these with transport
holders,
NOTE:
When dismounting the linkage use lifting devices in order to support both
segments with use of transport holders.
 Support rear section of linkage so ground following locking cylinder of rear rotor is not
tensed,

 store both rake's segments on truck as needed,
 secure both segments against shifting when transported,
Fig. 18 illustrates exemplary setting of both raking mechanisms to reduce dimensions.

5.5. Mounting PTO shaft
The guard should be protected against rotating by securing the shaft set chains to immovable
parts of the tractor and the rake.
NOTE:
If need be, shorten the PTO shaft according to corresponding operator's
manual given by the shaft’s manufacturer (Fig. 19).

NOTE:
The PTO shaft should remain mounted only for the rake's operation time.
For transport and service time the shaft should be disconnected from the
tractor.
NOTE:
Use machines with correspondingly designed driving PTO shafts. Prior to
the work commencement, safety guards should be inspected whether they (in
the tractor, the mower and the PTO shaft) are placed correctly and are not
damaged. Damaged or missing parts must be replaced with genuine ones.
Make sure that the PTO shaft is mounted properly. Approaching the rotating
parts is strictly forbidden, as it may lead to serious injuries or even cause
death. For any service and repair works of the shaft and the machine, the
tractor engine and its drive must be disconnected. Prior to the operation
commencement, read the operator's manuals of both the machine and the
PTO shaft.
5.5. Switching the rake from transport to operating position
 make sure there is no person around the danger area,
 Turn on shut-off valve which is located at the tractor,
 lower carts with hydraulic lifting device in the slowest way possible in order to cushion contact
with the ground,
 take out raking arms from transport holders, put them into the rotor and lock with cotters,
 lower safety guards,
 extend the swath guard to required length.
