GROUND COFFEE ADJUSTMENT AND DISPENSING:
Grinding adjustment:
Note: Never operate the machine with the two grindstones in contact. Letting the
grindstones come into contact may result in the grindings jamming in the grinder unit
and premature wear of the grindstones.
The machine is set in the factory so that the "0" marker on the nut (5) graduated plate
(12) corresponds to the finest grinding without the grindstones touching (fig. J and fig.
K).
8. Hold the adjustment nut (5) with one hand and press the indexing pointer (7)
with the other
9. Tighten the adjustment nut (5) by turning in a clockwise direction by one or two
notches for finer grinding.
10.Loosen the adjustment nut (5) by turning in an anti-clockwise direction by one or
two notches for coarser grinding.
11.Release the indexing pointer (7) to retain the grinding setting.
12.Draw off a few measures of coffee to check the grinding adjustment.
Depending on the type of coffee used and the grinding fineness required, the output
may vary from one setting to another. Too fine a grinding setting may heat the coffee
up and alter its aroma.
Estimating the size of the grind:
During the grind adjustment operation, the lid (24) may be removed and the motor will
continue to run for 3 sec, which means that the grind can be touched at the coffee
output pipe and an estimate made of the size of the coffee grinding obtained.
Adjusting the ground coffee dose measurement:
The dose measurer should be cleaned regularly to prevent the coffee which has built
up on the walls from interfering with the adjustment of the dose measurer.
The machine is set in the factory for a measured dose of 7g.
1. Start the machine up and allow the dose measurer to fill.
2. Draw off 3 to 4 doses. The machine should start again automatically.
3. Wait for the machine to stop to draw off another 5 to 6 doses.
4. Measure the mass (weight) of the following doses.
5. Tighten the thumb wheel (8) in a clockwise direction to reduce the quantity of
ground coffee per measured dose (the thumb wheel is adjusted by half-turns)
(fig. L).
6. Loosen the thumb wheel (8) in an anti-clockwise direction to increase the
quantity of ground coffee per measured dose.
7. Draw off more than 6 doses for the adjustments to be fully taken into account.

grindstone, place a screwdriver across the grinder body and the coffee outlet tube to
stop the grindstone carrier plate from turning on unscrewing or tightening the
grindstone retaining screws.
7. Carefully clean the whole grinder body, in particular the grindstone facing areas.
8. Place each grindstone on its support making sure that there is no coffee dust
between the grindstone and its support.
CARE: The slightest small coffee particle under the grindstone may prevent the
machine from operating correctly. It is recommended that the grinder body is cleaned
with a compressed air jet or a dry brush.
CARE: Do not unscrew the retaining shaft (17) from the grindstone carrier plate (18)
so as not to upset the geometry of the assembly (fig. P).
9. Once both the grindstones have been replaced, with one hand press the indexing
pointer (7) and with the other place the ground coffee adjustment nut (5) onto the
grinder body taking care not to damage the thread. Without using force, put the nut
(5) on the grinder body, unscrewing it gently to feel for alignment of the two threads
and thus to be able to feed them in without using force. Then tighten until the 2
grindstones come into contact (fig. S).
10.Unscrew the "adjustment nut" (5) to free the grindstones in contact.
11.Plug the machine in and switch it on with no coffee.

FAULT FINDING
If for an unknown or involuntary reason your No. 60 grinder stops or no longer provides its
function, please proceed as follows:
•Try to determine the exact reason for the machine stopping.
•Depending on what you identify, refer to the section below which is most relevant to
your problem.
•If, when you are working on the machine to resolve the problem, you need to remove
the container (2), remember to close the bean container shutter (6).
•In all circumstances, if the problem persists, turn the electric power supply off,
unplug the mains supply lead plug (10) and call on someone from the maintenance
department or contact an approved SANTOS dealer.
The machine will not start:
•Check: the mains power supply and the condition of the power supply lead (10).
•Check that the On / Off switch indicator (11) lights up when the switch is in the 1
position. If not, replace the switch.
•Check that the dose measurer (31) and the dose measurer lid (24) with the detection
paddle (14) and its magnet (19) are correctly positioned on the coffee grinder.
•Check that the grindstones (9) are not making contact preventing the motor from
starting; unscrew the nut (5).
•Check that there are no foreign bodies stuck between the grindstones (9).
•Inside the machine, check the condition of the electric wires and the connections (on
the switch (11) and on the component support module (25) (fig. M and fig. T)) (the
electric components can be accessed without dismantling the machine); also check
on the dose measurer presence sensor (27) and the dose measurer filling level
sensor (28) located behind the dose measurer support plate (26) (fig. O).
•Check the electric components, replacing them one by one.
The machine stops automatically after a too long operating time:
The No. 60 coffee grinder stops automatically if the pre-programmed maximum continuous
operation time is reached. This protection provides the means for preventing any
overheating of the motor. Where the coffee grinder has been stopped in this way, the
following is required to remedy it:
•Check that there are still coffee beans in the bean container (2).
•Check that the bean container shutter (6) is in the open position.
•Where appropriate, check the condition of the grindstones and replace them where
necessary.
•Check that the dose measurer is properly in place and also the lid.
•Check that the coffee outlet conduit is not blocked (remove the lid and use the
brush).
•After having made all these checks, put the On/Off switch (11) to the 0position, then
to the 1position. In all events, the coffee grinder should start again.

SANTOS : User and maintenance manual
98160 EN 2.2 - 11 2013 15 / 29 www.santos.fr
The machine stops as a result of motor over-heating (the motor unit is hot):
If the motor should heat up abnormally before the pre-programmed time has run out, as
the motor is protected by integral thermal protection, the motor stops.
•Check that there are still coffee beans in the bean container (2).
•Put the On / Off switch (11) to the 0position and unplug the mains power supply lead
(10).
Wait for the motor to cool down (20 to 45 minutes), plug the power supply lead (10) back in
and then press the On / Off switch (11) (position 1).
The machine stops as a result of an overload:
A foreign body between the grindstones, the grindstones coming into contact, too fine
coffee grinding or intensive operation may result in motor overload.
Under these circumstances, the No. 60 grinder current overload protection may be
activated and stop the operation of the machine.
If the machine is abnormally hot, refer to the section "The machine stops as a result of
motor over-heating".
Otherwise:
Turn the electric power supply off, unplug the mains power supply lead (10), and refer to
the section "changing the grindstones" to remove the foreign body or to clean the
grindstones and resolve the motor overheating problem.
Move the On / Off switch (11) to the 0position and then to the 1position. In all events, the
No. 60 coffee grinder should start again.
The machine stops a few minutes after starting:
•Check all the electrical components, start capacitor (15), electronic card (13), dose
measurer presence sensor (27), coffee filling level sensor (28), and mains power
supply lead (10).
The ground coffee dose measurement is not consistent:
•Check that there are coffee beans in the bean container (2)
•Check that there are coffee grindings in the dose measurer
•Clean the coffee dose measurer.
•Check the dose measurement drawing handle is operating properly. Clean where
necessary.
The ground coffee gets jammed in the grinding body conduit:
•The machine has perhaps been subjected to a vertical shock (e.g.: during transport);
remove the dose measurer lid (24) and check that the conduit (23) located between
the grinding body outlet (5) and the dose measurer support plate (26) has not come
out of its housing (fig. D and fig. E).
