Step1
Install theCPU:
1.LocatetheCPUZIF(ZeroInsertion Force)socketon theupper-right
sectorofyourmainboard(betweentheback-panelconnectorsand the
DIMM memoryslots).
2.Pull theCPUZIFsocketleverslightlysidewaysawayfromthesocket
tounlockthelever,and thenbringit toanupwardlyverticalposition.
3.PlaceyourPPGA/FC-PGAprocessorinthesocket370.NotethattheCPU
edgeshave beenpurposelydesignednon-symmetricallytopreventfrom
insertingtheprocessorinthewrongdirection.Thefollowingdiagram
demonstratesthecorrectplacementoftheCPUintheZIFsocket. You can
see thatthetwoblunt-edgedcornersshouldfacetowardsthesocket-lever.
4.SlightlypushthePPGA/FC-PGA370processorintothesocketwithoutap-
plyingexcessive forcewhilemakingsurethereisnogapbetweenCPUand
socket.Thenlowerthesocket-leverall thewaydowntoitshorizontalposit-
ion and lockit tosecuretheCPUinplace.
5.ThePPGA/FC-PGA370 processorrequiresasetofheatsink/fantoensure
propercoolingoftheprocessor.If heatsink/fanhave notbeenalready
mountedon yourCPU, you mustpurchasetheheatsink/fanseparately
and have it installed.Plugthecablefromheatsink/fantoCPUfanpower
connectorlocatednearby.NotethatthereareseveraltypesofCPUfan
connectors.Normally,if yourmainboardsupportsthehardware
monitoringfunction,a3-pinfanpowerconnectorshouldallowyoursystem
todetecttheCPUfan’sspeed.TheCPUfancanalsorunwitha2-pinfan
powerconnector,however,detection ofCPUfan’sspeedisnotsupported.
AnothertypeofCPUfanmayfeaturealarge 4-pinfanpowerconnector,
whichdoesnotsupportCPUfan’sspeeddetection andmustbedirectly

Step2.
SetJumpers
Thedefault jumpersettingshave beensetforthecommon usage standardof
thismainboard.Therefore,you do notneedtoresetthejumpersunless you
requirespecialadjustmentsasinanyofthefollowingcases:
1.Over-clockyourCPU
2.ClearCMOS
3.Change CODEC
4.ChooseMicrophone-OutPort
Forfirst-timeDIYsystembuilders,werecommend thatyou do notchange the
default jumpersettingsif you arenottotallyfamiliarwithmainboardconfigu-
ration procedures.Thefactory-setdefault settingsaretunedforoptimum
systemperformance.Fortheadvanceduserswho wishtocustomize their
system,section 3.2JumperSettingswill providedetailedinformation on how
toconfigureyourmainboardmanually.
Step3.
Install SDRAMSystemMemory
To install memory,insertSDRAMmemorymodule(s)inDIMM slot(s).
NotethatSDRAMmodulesaredirectionaland will notgointheDIMM slots
unless they areproperlyoriented.Afterthemoduleisfullyinsertedintothe
DIMM slot, lift theclipsofbothsidesoftheDIMM slottolockthemodulein
place.

Step4
Install InternalPeripheralsinSystemCase
Beforeyou install and connectthemainboardintoyoursystemcase,we
recommend thatyou firstassembleall theinternalperipheraldevicesintothe
computerhousing,includingbutnotlimitedtotheharddiskdrive (IDE
/HDD), floppydiskdrive (FDD), CD-ROMdrive,and ATXpowersupplyunit.
Thiswill greatlyfacilitateinmakingtheconnectionstothemainboardde-
scribedbelow.
To install IDE&FDD drives,followthisprocedure:
1.Settherequiredjumperson boardeachdeviceaccordingtothe
instructionsprovidedbythemanufacturer.(IDEdevices,HDD, and
CD-ROMhave tosetjumperson MasterorSlave modedepending
on yourwillingtoinstall morethanonedeviceforeachkind.)
2.ConnectIDEcableand FDD cableon theback-paneloftheinternal
peripheraldevicestothecorrespondingheaderson board.Notethatthe
cableshouldbeorientedwithitscoloredstripe(usuallyinredormagenta)
connectedtopin#1 bothon themainboardIDEorFDD connectorand on
thedeviceaswell.
3.Connectanavailablepowercablethroughyoursystempowersupplyunit
totheback-panelofeachperipheraldevice.Notethatthepowercable
isdirectionaland cannotfit inif it isnotproperlypositioned.

13
Step5
MounttheMainboardon theComputerChassis
1.You mayfind thattherearealotofdifferentmountingholepositions
bothon yourcomputerchassisand on themainboard.To choosea
correctmountinghole,thekey pointistokeeptheback-panelofthe
mainboardinaclosefit withyoursystemcase,asshownbelow.
2.Afterdecidingon thepropermountingholes,position thestudsbetween
theframeofchassisand themainboard.Thestudsareusedtofixthe
mainboardand tokeepacertaindistancebetweenthesystemchassis
and themainboard,inordertoavoidanyelectricalshortage betweenthe
boardand themetalframeofchassis.(If yourcomputercaseisalready
equippedwithmountingstuds,you will needtotightenscrewstoattach
themainboard.)
Note:Inmostcomputerhousings,you will beabletofind 4ormore
attachmentpointstoinstall mountingstudsand fixthemainboard.
If therearenenoughmatchingholes,thenmake suretoinstall at
least4mountingstudstoensureproperattachmentofthe
mainboard.

14
Step6
ConnectFront-PanelSwitches/LEDs/Speaker/USBconnectors
You canfind thereareseveraldifferentcablesalreadyexistinginthesystem
caseand originatingfromthecomputer’sfront-paneldevices(HDD LED,
PowerLED, ResetSwitch,PCSpeaker,orUSBdevicesetc.) Thesecables
serve toconnectthefront-panelswitches,LEDs,USBconnectorstothe
