Allgemeines:
Die Siemens-Vakuum-Leistungsschalter (V-Schalter) 3AH4
sind dreipolige Innenraum-Leistungsschalter für hohe
Schalthäufigkeit bis zu einer Gebrauchsdauer von 120 000
mechanischen Schaltspielen. Die Bemessungsspannung
reicht von 24 kV bis 36 kV.
Der V-Schalter besteht aus dem Antriebskasten mit Feder-
speicherantrieb und Steuerelementen, den drei Schalterpo-
len mit Vakuum-Schaltröhren, Gießharzstützern und Schalt-
stangen.
Die Einbaulage des V-Schalters bezogen auf die Vakuum-
Schaltröhren ist senkrecht. Der Einsatz des V-Schalters ist
praktisch in allen Anlagenbauformen möglich.
General:
Siemens 3AH4 vacuum circuit-breakers (V-breaker) are of
the triple-pole indoor type for high switching frequency up to
a service life of 120.000 mechanical operating cycles.The
rated voltage ranges between 24 to 36 kV.
The vacuum circuit-breaker consists of the mechanism
housing complete with stored-energy mechanism and con-
trol elements, the three poles with vacuum interrupters, cast-
resin insulators and operating rods.
The mounting position (relative to the vacuum interrupters)
is vertical. The vacuum circuit-breakers can be used in
practically any system design.

readable product designation made up of a series of figures
and letters.

IEC 60694.

Ambient temperature/humidity and loadability
The 3AH4 V-breakers are designed for the normal operating
conditions laid down in the standards. Permissible ambient
temperatures:
Maximum value = +40 °C
Average over a period of 24 hours = +35 °C
Minimum value = -5 °C
Permissible atmospheric humidity:
Relative humidity, 24 hour mean = max. 95 %
Relative humidity, 1 month mean = max. 90 %
Under these conditions condensation may occasionally
occur. The rated normal currents listed in Fig. 1/4 were laid
down for 40 °C ambience in accordance with DIN VDE/IEC.
Use under conditions other than normal is possible with
certain measures that can be implemented on request.
The maximum permissible load current as a function of the
3AH4 V-breaker ambient temperature has been plotted in
Fig. 1/2. The load currents indicated apply to open-type
switchgear. Metal-enclosed switchgear must be derated as
specified by the switchgear manufacturer.
Umgebungstemperatur/LuftfeuchteundBelastbarkeit
Die V-Schalter 3AH4 sind für die in den Vorschriften festge-
legten normalen Betriebsbedingungen ausgelegt. Die zu-
lässige Umgebungstemperatur beträgt:
Höchstwert = +40 °C
Höchstwert des 24 - Stunden - Mittels = +35 °C
Tiefstwert = -5 °C
Die zulässige Luftfeuchte beträgt:
Durchschnittswert der relativen Luftfeuchte,
gemessen über 24 Std. = max. 95 %
Durchschnittswert der relativen Luftfeuchte,
gemessen über 1 Monat = max. 90 %
Unter diesen Bedingungen kann gelegentlich Kondensati-
on auftreten. Die in den elektrischen Daten in Fig. 1/4 ange-
gebenen Bemessungsbetriebsströme wurden nach DIN
VDE bzw. IEC für eine Umgebungstemperatur von 40 °C
festgelegt. Der Einsatz bei Abweichungen von den normalen
Betriebsbedingungen ist durch Sondermaßnahmen auf
Anfrage möglich.
In Fig. 1/2 ist der Grenzwert für den Belastungsstrom in
Abhängigkeit von der Umgebungstemperatur der V-Schalter
3AH4 aufgezeichnet. Die angegebenen Belastungsströme
gelten für offene Schaltanlagen. Bei gekapselten Schaltan-
lagen ist eine Reduzierung nach Angaben des Schaltanla-
genherstellers durchzuführen.

Site altitude
The rated insulating capacity values (rated impulse with-
stand voltage, rated power frequency withstand voltage)1)
specified for the equipment are, in accordance with the
provisions of VDE Standard 0111 and IEC 60071-1, based
on standard atmospheric conditions (1013 h Pa, 20 °C and
11g/m3watercontent), i.e. sealevel. Theinsulating capacity
of an insulation in air decreases with increasing altitude as
a result of changes in the air density. Standards promulgated
by VDE, IEC and other disregard this decrease in insulating
capacity for altitude of up to 1000 m, i.e. the decrease of
approximately 9 % at this altitude is still permissible.
The standards provide no guideline for altitudes of more than
1000 m with respect to insulation ratings; they leave this up
to an agreement between manufacturer and user.
Our own recommendation is as follows:
Since this method used for rating insulation up to altitudes
of 1000 m has proved to be satisfactory, it should also be
applied to higher altitudes. The altitude correction factor a
should therefore be based on the insulating capacity at
1000 m, which is lower by 9 % (corresponding to 0.91 or
) than the capacity at sea level.
The following expression thus applies for the selection of the
equipment:

Switchgear with a rated voltage of 36 kV (rated lightning
impulse withstand voltage of 170 kV) meets this require-
ments in accordance with IEC 60694.
The actual insulating capacity at the site is then withstand
voltage3) =a.ratedwithstand voltage2) oftheselected switch-
gear unit.
Geräte und Schaltanlagen für Bemessungsspannung 36 kV
(Bemessungs-Stehblitzstoßspannung 170 kV) genügen den
gestellten Forderungen nach IEC 60694.

Die Bemessungswerte des Isoliervermögens (Bemes-
sungs- Stehstoßspannung, Bemessungs-Stehwechsel-
spannung)1) der Siemens-Geräte und Schaltanlagen sind
entsprechend DIN VDE 0111 und IEC 60071-1 auf normale
Luftverhältnisse (1013 h Pa, 20 °C, 11 g/m3Wassergehalt
der Luft), auf Meereshöhe NN bezogen. Mit steigender Höhe
nimmt das Isoliervermögen einer Isolierung in Luft wegen
der geringeren Luftdichte ab. Diese Minderung des Iso-
liervermögens wird entsprechend DIN VDE, IEC und anderen
Vorschriften bis 1000 m Aufstellungshöhe nicht berücksichtigt;
d. h. die Minderung von 9 % bei dieser Höhe wird zugelassen.
Für Aufstellungshöhen über 1000 m geben die Vorschriften
keine Richtlinien für die Isolationsbemessungen an, son-
dern überlassen dies Sonderabmachungen.
Wir empfehlen die bis 1000 m bewährte Isolationsbemes-
sung auch in größeren Höhen beizubehalten. Dem Höhen-
korrekturfaktoraliegtdeshalbdasIsoliervermögenbei1000 m
zugrunde,das bereitsum 9% (entspricht0,91oder ) kleiner
ist als bei NN.

chung geeignet. Schalter für Bemessungs-Kurzschlußaus-
schaltstrom≥40kAsindbeidenBemessungsdatenfürSchnell-
umschalten und bis 31,5 kA für Kurzunterbrechung geeignet.
Motorantrieb(M1)
Bei Gleichspannung beträgt die max. Leistungsaufnahme
ca. 500 W. Bei Wechselspannung beträgt die max. Lei-
stungsaufnahme ca. 650 VA. Die Antriebsmotoren arbeiten
in der kur-zen Spannzeit zeitweise im Überlastbereich. Der
Bemessungsstrom für den erforderlichen Motorkurzschluß-
schutz ist in der Fig. 1/6 zu entnehmen (die Motorschutzge-
räte gehören nicht zur V-Schalter-Lieferung und müssen
gesondert bestellt werden).

Close-open time = the interval of time (in a make-break
operatingcycle)betweenthe instantwhenthecontacts touch
in the first pole in the closing process, and the instant when
the arcing contacts separate in all poles in the subsequent
opening process.
Switchingduties
The operating mechanisms of the 3AH4 circuit-breakers are
suitable for rapid auto-reclosure. Breakers for a rated short-
circuit breaking current of ≥40 kA are, at rated data levels,
suitable for rapid load transfer and till 31.5 kA for rapid auto-
reclosure.
Motor operating mechanism (M1)
The maximum DC power input is 500 W (approx.). The
maximum AC power input is 650 VA (approx.). During part of
the short spring charging time the motors operate in the
overload range. The recommended ratings for motion pro-
tection devices are shown in Fig. 1/6 (the protection devices
are not supplied with the vacuum breakers and must be
ordered separately).
