Read back of the TM FAST application is technically not provided for. You have the following
additional options to explicitly delete the application:
•Via the commissioning editor in STEP 7 (TIA Portal)
•Via the LTMFAST_ControlREC instruction in the user program of the CPU
•Via the MultiFieldbus Configuration Tool (MFCT) as of V1.5

Introduction
The technology module offers the possibility to control particularly fast processes with short
response times in the microsecond and nanosecond range. You can define the hardware
functionality of the module through application-specific programming of the FPGA in the
module. For this purpose, you use the external software Intel® Quartus® Prime. The free
version Intel® Quartus® Prime Lite Edition is sufficient in most cases.
Properties
The technology module has the following properties:
•Eight 24 V digital inputs (input characteristic curve according to IEC 61131, Type 3)
•Eight fast 24 V digital outputs
•Four 24 V digital inputs/outputs
•Eight RS422/RS485 channels (CHm), can also be used as TTL (single-ended) channels,
direction can be configured
•Configurable diagnostics
•Configurable input delay DIm: 0.001 ms ... 20 ms, or freely programmable using the
TM FAST application
•Configurable input delay of the RS422/RS485/TTL channels CHm: 0.5 µs ... 1000 µs, or
freely programmable using the TM FAST application
•32 bytes cyclic input data and 32 bytes cyclic output data for free usage in the TM FAST
application.
•Up to 128 bytes acyclic input data and up to 128 bytes acyclic output data for free use in
the TM FAST application.
•The functionality of I/O data and inputs/outputs can be completely defined using the
TM FAST application

3.1 Pin assignment
You connect input and output signals to the 40-pin front connector of the technology
module. In addition, you connect the supply voltage for supplying the module and the digital
outputs to the 4-pin infeed element. Some of the connections can be used as an input or
output. You define this in the TM FAST (Page 41) application.

Shielded cables are usually required depending on the output frequency used and the
configured input delay. Shielded cables are not required for input delays of 100 µs and more.
If the shield connection element is not sufficient, you can additionally use the S7-300 shield
connection terminals specified in section Properties (Page 10).
NOTICE
Electromagnetic compatibility
The high-frequency switching (> 5 kHz) of the 24 V outputs generates electromagnetic
feedback effects on the supply network. You have the following options for adhering to the
limits that correspond to the current state of the art:
•Use a separate 24 V power supply unit, e.g. SIMATIC PM 1507 24 V/3 A (article number
6EP1332-4BA00), to supply the TM FAST.
•Provide a corresponding filter for the 24 V supply. The interference radiation
measurements were made with filters of the type "EPCOS SIFI-C B84113C". Use this filter
type or a filter with the same characteristic or a characteristic with greater damping.
•Take appropriate measures already when generating the output signals, e.g. "frequency
dithering" of the generated output frequencies.

Pin assignment for the infeed element
The infeed element is inserted into the front connector and serves to supply power to the
technology module. You must connect the supply voltage to terminal 41 (L+) and terminal 44
(M) for this.

An internal protective circuit protects the technology module from polarity reversal of the
supply voltage. The technology module monitors the connection of the supply voltage.
The PWR LED (Page 45) at terminal 19 indicates the presence of supply voltage.
Behavior of the digital outputs following a wire break at the ground connection of the outputs
Due to the characteristics of the output driver used in the module, a wire break causes
approximately 10 mA supply current to drain from the digital outputs via a parasitic diode.
This behavior may lead to a high signal state even at outputs that are not set. Depending on
the nature of the load, 10 mA may be enough to activate a load with high signal state.
Duplicate wiring of ground
To prevent unintended switching of the outputs in the event of a ground connection wire
break, follow these steps:
1. Route the first ground connection from terminal 44 to the ground connection of the central
power supply of the system.
2. Route the second ground connection from terminal 43 to the ground connection of the
central power supply of the system.
If one of the two ground connection cables is interrupted, the outputs are maintained at the
required potential by the remaining ground connection.

Digital inputs DIm and DIQm
Up to 12 digital inputs are available. Four DIQm can be used either as digital input or digital
output. Here, the digital input is permanently connected to the digital output of the DIQm.
The digital inputs are not isolated from each other. The digital inputs are electrically isolated
from the backplane bus.
RS485/TTL inputs and outputs
Eight RS485/TTL channels are available. These can be used as inputs or outputs. For each
channel, set whether it should be used as RS485, RS422 or TTL interface
(RS485_OR_TTL_DIRECTION system logic parameter).
The TTL interface is special in that two CHm form a TTL group:
•CH0 & CH1: TTL Group 0
•CH2 & CH3: TTL Group 1
•CH4 & CH5: TTL Group 2
•CH6 & CH7: TTL Group 3
If one channel is to be used as TTL interface, the second channel of the TTL group must also
be set as TTL interface. The channels of a TTL group can have different directions.
A RS485 or RS422 signal each uses one pair of lines. A signal with TTL standard uses a single
line connected to terminal +CHm (terminal -CHm must not be used). The RS485/TTL
inputs/outputs are not isolated from each other. The RS485/TTL inputs/outputs are isolated
from the backplane bus.
NOTICE
Considering the delay time after direction change of a RS485 channel
If you have set RS485_bidir for the RS485_OR_TTL_DIRECTION system logic parameter of an
RS485 channel, you need to consider the following:
When switching direction (between receiving and sending) on an RS485 channel, you need
to maintain a time interval of at least 1.5 µs between the RS485_OE signal and receiving or
sending.

Behavior of the RS485/TTL channels (CHm)
As long as
no TM FAST application is loaded into the FPGA and activated, the RS485/TTL
channels are switched as outputs and output a low level.

In the description of the front connector and the logic, "channel" refers to an RS485/TTL
channel. In the diagnostics, however, "channel 0" refers to the entire module.

Input delay for digital inputs and RS485/TTL channels
To suppress interference, you can configure an input delay for the digital inputs and
RS485/TTL inputs.
When selecting the option "Take over from TM FAST application" you specify for each digital
input or RS485/TTL input a self-defined input delay by using the system logic parameters
DI_FILTER_USER_VAL_MS and RS485_TTL_FILTER_USER_VAL_MS. You can find additional

Note
If you set an input delay <
0.1 ms, you must use shielded cables to connect the respective
digital input or RS485/TTL input.
Digital outputs DQm and DIQm
Up to 12 digital outputs are available. Four DIQm can be used either as digital input or digital
output.
The digital outputs are:
•Not electrically isolated from one other
•Electrically isolated from the backplane bus
•Protected from overload and short-circuit
Relays and contactors can be connected direct without external circuitry. You can find
information on the maximum possible operating frequencies at the digital outputs in the
section Technical specifications (Page 51).
