Foreword
Micro Automation Sets are fully functional and tested automation
configurations based on A&D standard products for easy, fast and
inexpensive implementation of automation tasks in small-scale automation.
Each of these Micro Automatic Sets covers a frequently occurring subtask
of a typical customer problem in the low-end range.
The sets help you to obtain answers with regard to required products and
the question how they function when combined.
However, depending on the system requirements, a variety of other
components (e.g. other CPUs, power supplies, etc.) can be used to
implement the functionality on which this set is based. Please refer to the
respective SIEMENS A&D catalogs for these components.

For good comprehensibility, the features of the Micro Automation Set are
explained on the basis of an automation task.
Automation task
As a quality assurance measure, the weight of a delivered quantity of
goods is to be recorded together with a time stamp. These data are to be
sent to a control center via an Ethernet connection and to be archived
there. The control center can be any SIMATIC S7 controller or a PC-based
software PLC. As an example, a PC-based visualization system is to
enable access to the archive data of the control centers. For maintenance
purposes, it is to be possible to directly access the controllers in the
automation network from the office network.

Automation solution – Set 14
The automation solution uses an S7-200 controller¹ with clock cartridge for
acquisition of the process data and for generating a time stamp. The data
records are sent cyclically from the S7-200 controller to a control center²
connected via Ethernet and archived in this control center.
An S7-200, S7-300, S7-400 or a WinAC station are used as alternative
control centers². The archive data of the control center² can be accessed
with WinCC flexible. SCALANCE X108 enables access from the
automation or office network to the individual controllers.

Fields of application
The Micro Automation Set is particularly suitable for use in cost-effective
archiving and communication tasks with low engineering overhead. Any
SIMATIC S7 controllers or SIMATIC WinAC can be used as communication
partners.
The example configuration shown in this Micro Automation Set is used in
numerous applications. The configuration is particularly useful if:
•A lot of data have to be transported
•Quick communication is required
•Existing Ethernet networks are to be expanded with automation
technology (e.g. facility management)
•Programmable logic controls are to be networked over a large area
•The automation network is linked to the office network without causing
an unnecessary load of the office communication sector
•An expandable communication system with open protocol is to exist.
Benefit
•Fast access via Ethernet for archiving or further processing of
S7-200 process data
•Virtually unlimited expansion and usage of the standardized Ethernet
infrastructure, the usage of existing infrastructure is possible
•Open data exchange with PC applications via OPC possible
•Saves time and costs due to quick and convenient configuration,
programming and monitoring (remote maintenance) from a control
center via LAN
•The option of using standard network components enables the use of
wireless LAN (wireless Ethernet), i.e. the visualization PC can be a
notebook and moved freely
•Communication to controllers of higher-level S7 performance classes
and PC-based software PLC by using standard Industrial Ethernet
components and the S7 communication protocol.

S7-200 “Basis” consists of an S7-200 CPU 222 (2) with clock cartridge
and Ethernet CP 243-1 (3) communications module. The Ethernet CP
243-1 is connected to SCALANCE X108 (4) via an Industrial Ethernet FC
standard cable with RJ45 plugs.
A LOGO! Power 1.3A (1) provides the power supply of the devices.
Note SCALANCE X108 provides the option to additionally connect a redundant
power supply.

S7-200 “Backup” consists of an S7-200 CPU 222 (2) with 256 KB memory
cartridge and an Ethernet CP 243-1 (3) communications module. The

plugs.

4.1 Acquisition and sending of process values with time stamp

1. The central processing unit of S7-200
“Basis” acquires and stores process
values with time stamp to the second in a
reserved memory area of the S7-200
CPU.
2. The generated data fields are written into
a data block of the S7-200 CPU at
intervals of one second. A data field
comprises two bytes for the measured
process value and six bytes for the time
stamp.
3. The data block with the stored data fields
acts as send buffer. It buffers 20 data
fields before the send job is started. To
ensure consistency of the data at the
receiver, the actual send procedure is
divided into two steps:
•Step1: Sending all 20 data fields +
consistency byte (status 0) to the
receiver
•Step2: Sending the consistency byte
(status 1) after successful send
procedure of step 1. It is only now
that consistent availability of the data
at the receiver is ensured.

4.2 Receiving and archiving the data records in S7-200

1. The central processing unit of S7-200
“Backup” receives data of S7-200 “Basis”
in an input buffer.
2. The structure of the data to be received is
emulated in the data block of S7-200
“Backup” using the “Data-Log” wizard. A
data record includes 20 data fields with
process value and time stamp.
3. The “DAT0_WRITE” function block for
starting the archiving process provided by
the “Data-Log” wizard is called if all 20
data fields have been received and if
consistency is ensured.
4. If the archiving process is started, the
“Data-Log” wizard writes the data records
from the data block into the 256 KB
memory cartridge. During each call a
new data record is added to the already
existing archive data. If the memory
cartridge is full, the oldest archived data
records are overwritten.
5. Via the S7-200 Explorer integrated in
STEP 7 MicroWIN, the process values
with time stamp can e.g. be read via
Microsoft Excel and further processed.
Note To show the functionality of data storage on the 256 KB memory
cartridge in this Micro Automation Set 14, data are frequently written to
the memory cartridge (approx. every 20 seconds). Due to the limited life
of approximately 1,000,000 write procedures of the memory cartridge,
longer backup intervals should be used for industrial use.

from S7-200 “Basis” in a receive buffer.
2. The archive data block has room for 90
data records consisting of 20 data fields.
One data field consists of 8 bytes user
data. Using self-defined data types
(UDTs), this structure is emulated for the
archive data block. The eight bytes user
data can be handled as a data type and
copied as often as desired.
3. Due to a relative addressing of the data
records in the archive data block, a new
data record is added to the already
existing data records during each new
write procedure. If the archive data block
is full, the oldest archive data are
overwritten.
4. The job for archiving the 20 data fields at
the receive buffer in the archive data
block is issued if all 20 data fields have
been received and if consistency is
ensured.

5.1 Preliminary remark
For the startup, we offer you software examples with test code and test
parameters as download. The software examples support you during the
first steps and tests with your Micro Automation Sets. They enable quick
testing of hardware and software interfaces between the products
described in the Micro Automation Sets.
The software examples are always assigned to the components used in the
set and show their basic interaction. However, they are not real applications
in the sense of technological problem solving with definable properties.
5.2 Download of the startup code
In Micro Automation Set 14, the startup code is designed in such a way that
one “Basis” station communicates with one “Backup” station. S7-200,
S7-300, S7-400 or WinAC station can be selected as “Backup” station.
Optionally an “HMI” station can be additionally connected. For this option,
the startup code is modularly subdivided.
The software examples are available on the HTML page from which you
downloaded this document.
The download consists of several ZIP files which can be extracted with any

5. Open the included S7-200 project on the
configuration PC using STEP 7
Micro/WIN and make the following
settings in STEP 7 Micro/WIN:
•Set the access point in “Set PG/PC
Interface” to “Micro/WIN ÆPC/PPI
cable(PPI)”
•Select the USB port in the properties
of the selected access point
6. Load the program to the S7-200 CPU and
restart the S7-200 CPU. Select the
respective relevant program for the
selected configuration of Set 14.

Configuring S7-200 “Backup” station with MicroWin project

1. Connect the S7-200 CPU to a DC 24V
power supply.
2. Connect the configuration PC and S7-200
“Backup” with a USB/PPI cable via the
USB interface of the PC.
3. Plug the ribbon cable of CP 243-1 in the
interface at the S7-200 CPU.
4. Plug the 256 KB memory cartridge in
the S7-200 CPU.
5. Switch on the power supply.
6. Open the included S7-200 project
“Set14_S7-200_V2-0.mwp” on the
configuration PC using STEP 7
Micro/WIN and make the following
settings in STEP 7 Micro/WIN:
•Set the access point in “Set PG/PC
Interface” to “Micro/WIN ÆPC/PPI
cable(PPI)”
•Select the USB port in the properties
of the selected access point.
7. Load the program to the S7-200 CPU and
restart the S7-200 CPU.
