1.4.6 Important notes
Only authorized personnel are permitted to make diagnostics, to rectify faults and
to restart the plant. This also applies to work carried out within the control panel
(e.g. safety checks or replacement of fuses).
The Climatix Touch panel products can only be used in the field of heating,
ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
Prerequisites for flawless and safe operation of the Climatix touch panel products
are proper transport, installation and commissioning, as well as correct operation.
Fuses, switches, wiring and grounding must comply with local safety regulations for
electrical installations.
The Climatix touch panel products may only be operated by personnel who have
been instructed by Siemens Building Technologies or their delegates and whose
attention has been drawn to potential risks.
When wiring the system, high voltage section must be strictly segregated from the
DC 24V (±15%) safety extra low-voltage (SELV) section in order to ensure
protection against electric shock hazard!
Always observe the limits for storage and transport specified.
The Climatix touch panel products are maintenance-free, apart from cleaning at
regular intervals. System sections accommodated in the control panel should be
free from dust and dirt whenever normal service visits are conducted.
Should system faults occur and you are not authorized to make diagnostics and
rectify faults, call your service personnel of Siemens Building Technologies.
The devices are considered electronics devices for disposal in terms of
European Directive 2012/19/EU and may not be disposed of as domestic
waste.

2. Overview
2.1 Product overview
The Climatix touch panel is based on Android, featuring a friendly interface and
user experience, even more advanced functions. GUI application offers transparent,
cascading, translation, fades and other special effects.
The Climatix touch panel POL8T1.XX offers the following features:
- CPU: Cortex A8, 720 MHz
- Power supply over DC 24V
- Ethernet port and RS485/RS232 serial port connection
- SD1) card and USB interfaces for data import and export
- Panel-mounted installation with IP65 front protection degree
- Communication over Modbus protocol
- Connection with multiple controllers

POL8T1.7X/STD and POL8T1.8X/STD. The mechanical design differs for

3. Safety instructions
3.1 Industrial applications
The Climatix touch panel is designed for applications in most industrial
environments. The technical design specification ensures that the product works
stably at temperatures of -20°C −+50°C (-4°F −+122°F).
Maximum Ambient Temperature is 50°C (122°F).
3.2 Notes about usage
The Climatix touch panel is designed for indoor and outdoor use. Before putting the
Climatix touch panel into operation, ensure that it is installed correctly and the
working environment meets the conditions specified in the Technical
specifications.
Contact your supplier first, if you have to use the Climatix touch panel in
environment does not meet the condition requirement.
- Do not use in conditions at risk of damage, such as combustible gas, steam or
dust.
- Do not use in environments with sharp temperature change or in high humidity.
Otherwise, the Climatix touch panel may be damaged from internal
condensation.
3.3 Notes on communication
The Climatix touch panel supports the following connections to an external control
device:
•RS485/RS232 connection by using a communication cable with a DB9F
connector
•IP connection over Ethernet by using a LAN cable with an RJ45 connector
The maximum length of an RS485/RS232 cable is 3 m.
If there is a communication problem, the LCD displays an error message “No
Device Response” and clears the message when communication is normal. The
LED indicator marked flashes when communication is in progress.
Do not route the communication cable together with an AC or DC power cable, nor
near a source of electrical noise. Make sure that both ends of the cable are
connected tightly and firmly.
The RS485/RS232 port is a communication port. It cannot be used for
programming.

4. Mounting and connecting
4.1 Preparations
Check the package content for visible signs of transport damage and for
completeness.
Do not install parts damaged during shipment. Contact your Siemens
representative in the event of damaged parts.
Note the information in the following sections of these operating instructions before
installing the Climatix touch panel:
- Climatic ambient conditions
- Protection classes

Avoid mounting the Climatix touch panel near other devices’AC power cable,
controller output module, relay, or other electrical equipment.
Keep the Climatix touch panel away from equipment such as frequency converters
and power supply units, and shields all input or output cables to the equipment.
The shielding must be properly earth grounded.

4.2 Mount the Climatix touch panel
- The material in the area of the mounting cutout must be sufficiently strong to
ensure lasting and safe mounting of the Climatix touch panel.
- The force of the mounting clips or device operation of the device may not cause
the material to become deformed.
1. Insert the Climatix touch panel through the mounting cutout from the front.
2. Place the mounting clips into the corresponding cutout and hook them to the
Climatix touch panel.
3. Tighten the mounting clips one by one to a torque of 0.2 Nm, until the Climatix
touch panel is firmly mounted. (Type 4.3"and 7"touch panels use four
mounting clips, and type 12"uses seven.)

To comply with the sealing specification, ensure that:
- Use all provided mounting clips.
- The maximum curvature of the mounting surface is 0.010".
4.3 Connect the Climatix touch panel
Workflow for connecting the Climatix touch panel:
1. Connect the power supply.
2. Connect the configuration PC.
3. Connect the controller.
Field Wiring Terminal Markings- Field wiring terminals shall be marked to show a
range of values or a normal value of tightening torque in pound-inches per the
terminal block manufacturer. This marking is able to be located adjacent to the
terminal or on a wiring diagram, in addition with a reference to the information
adjacent to the terminal, such as by diagram number or document number.

Grounding Terminal- Field wiring terminal for connection of equipment-grounding
conductor shall be green-colored or plainly identified on or adjacent to connector or
provided on instruction manual and shipped with the device by “G”, “GR”, “GRD”,

417, Symbol 5019) may be used.

4.3.1 Connect power supply
Please check loacal electrical standards and regulations. Contact the local supplier
for more details.
The following table indicates permitted rated voltage and corresponding tolerance
range.

Separate the isolated DC power supply of the Climatix touch panel from a main AC
power supply. To comply with the ISC safety specification, the maximum length of
the DC power supply cable is 50 m (shield cable) or 30 m (twisted-pair cable).
- Do not share the power supply of the Climatix touch panel with controllers or
any input circuit with an inductive load, such as electromagnetic switches or
radiotubes.
- An incorrectly dimensioned power supply can destroy the Climatix touch panel.
Use only 24V DC power supplies with sufficient amperage. See Technical
specifications.
- Take appropriate protective measures, such as installing a lighting arrester,
when placing the power supply cable in an environment subjected to lightning
strikes.
1. Strip the ends of three power supply cables to a length of 6 mm.
2. Attach cable sleeves to the bare cable ends.
3. Install the end sleeves on the cable ends using the crimp pliers.
1. Insert the three power cables into the power supply terminal, and secure them
with a screwdriver.
2. Insert the power supply terminal into the Climatix touch panel.
3. Connect the ground cable to the earth ground point.
If no earth ground point is available, mount a shunt resistance and a shunt
capacitance between the negative and ground polarities of the power cables.
This provides a pathway for electrostatic discharge and blocks high-frequency
interference. (Recommendation: Resistance, 1 M Ω; Capacitance, 4700 pF.)
4. Switch off the power supply.
5. Insert the remaining wire ends into the mains terminal, and secure them with a
screwdriver.
Climatix touch panel pin (0V) should not be directly connected to Ground of
electrical panel to avoid equalizing currents.
Ensure that the wires are connected to the correct polarities.

4.3.2 Connect configuration PC
A configuration PC can:
•Transfer a project
•Reset the Climatix touch panel to factory settings
•Back up, recover, or configure recipes
Use a CAT5 Ethernet cable or higher to connect the configuration PC.
1. Connect one RJ45 connector on a LAN cable to the Climatix touch panel.
2. Connect the other RJ45 connector on the LAN cable to the configuration PC.
3. Configure the network of the Climatix touch panel if necessary. See Configure
the Network.
Use a USB cable to connect the configuration PC. The USB cable has a standard
USB Type B male connector on one end.
1. Connect the USB cable to the USB-A port on the Climatix touch panel.
2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the configuration PC.

4.3.3 Connect Climatix controller
If it contains an executable project, connect the Climatix touch panel to the
controller.
Use the “COM1” or “COM2” port to connect to a Climatix controller.
1. Shut down the Climatix touch panel.
2. Connect an RS485/RS232 connector on a communication cable to the Climatix
touch panel.
3. Connect the other RS485/RS232 connector on the communication cable to the
controller.
For safety instructions, see Notes on communication.
Use the Ethernet port to connect to a Climatix controller.
1. Shut down the Climatix touch panel.
2. Connect one RJ45 connector on a LAN cable to the Climatix touch panel.
3. Connect the other RJ45 connector on the LAN cable to the controller.
4. Configure the network of the Climatix touch panel if necessary. See Configure
the Network.
4.4 Switch on the Climatix touch panel
Switch on the power supply.
If the screen does not light up in two seconds after powering up, immediately
switch off the power supply. You have probably crossed the cables on the
power supply terminal. Check the connected cables and change them as
needed.
Climatix touch panel has a DEMO application in order to show main
functionalities and features. Please download your own application developed
with HMI-TOOL configuration software.

5. Operating the Climatix touch panel
Use the touch screen to operate and use the function keys to trigger associated
configured functions within a project.
- Do not use pointed or sharp objects because they can damage the plastic
surface of the touch screen.
- Use only your fingers or a touch pen to operate the touch screen.
- Do not touch multiple operating elements at the same time to avoid triggering
unexpected actions by accident.
- Touch only one operating element on the screen at a time.
5.1 Operate the touch screen
Operating elements are touch-sensitive symbols on the screen of the Climatix
touch panel.
You activate operating elements by touching them with your finger.
- The Climatix touch panel provides a visual feedback as soon as it detects that
an operating element has been touched.
- The visual feedback is independent of any communication with the controller.
The visual feedback signal therefore does not necessarily indicate whether the
relevant action was actually executed.
5.2 Operate the on-screen keyboard
5.2.1 Customized keyboard
A customized keyboard appears on the Climatix touch panel screen when you
touch an operating element requiring input. The keyboard may be either an ASCII
keyboard or numeric keypad depending on the type of operating element and the
required input.
You can configure the customized keyboard for an operating element in the
configuration software.

The fields “Max” and “Min” on a numeric keypad indicate the value limits. The
Climatix touch panel rejects any entry with a value outside the limits without a
notification.
The value limits are set in the configuration software.
1. Touch the desired operating element on the screen. The ASCII keyboard or
numeric keypad opens.
2. Press ENTER to confirm your entries, or cancel them with ESC. If the numeric
keypad is not closed, check if your entry is outside the value limits.
5.2.2 System keyboard
The system keyboard appears when you enter input or configure touch panel
settings. When commissioning a project, the system keyboard also appears if no
customized keyboard is enabled for the desired operating element.
•Use the Shift key (↑) to enter upper-case letters.
•Press ?123 to switch to numbers and special characters.
•Press EN to switch input language between English and Chinese.
•Press Done to confirm your entries.
5.3 Upgrade firmware
The firmware of the Climatix touch panel is upgraded by using an SD card or a
USB stick.
Climatix touch panel is delivered with latest firmware version, uploaded in the
Siemens factory. Proceed with following instructions only if required by Siemens
representative.
The following table lists the upgrade file names for each type of the touch panel.

To create an upgrade image on an SD card or a USB stick:
1. Contact Siemens regional company to get an upgrade file (.raw) for your
touch panel firmware.
2. Format the SD card or USB stick as FAT32 format.

3. In your PC, copy the .raw file to the SD card or USB stick by using an image
writer tool. For example ImageWriter.exe, which is a free software developed
by SUSE Studio.
You also can use Win32DiskImager. Ensure you have administrator authority to
the PC, and when select image file, change the *.img to *.*.
To upgrade the Climatix touch panel firmware:
1. Shut down the Climatix touch panel.
2. Insert the SD card or USB stick to the Climatix touch panel.
3. Manually set the DIPswitches to position 00100.
4. Connect Climatix touch panel to external power supply, and disconnect it from
the controller.
5. Switch on the Climatix touch panel.
The Climatix touch panel displays the following color bars to indicate the
upgrading is in process.

Displaying other color bars, for example Red/Green/Blue, indicates error status.
To solve the problem, change an SD card or USB stick and try again.
6. When upgrading process is finished, the Climatix touch panel restarts
automatically. It displays introduction screen for few minutes. Afterwards touch
panel enters Android mode.
7. After the restart is finished, reset the DIP switches to position 00000 (normal
operation mode).
8. Shut down the Climatix touch panel and switch it on again.
The upgraded firmware is available on the Climatix touch panel. The firmware
revision is shown on the bottom right corner of the screen.
