Warnings and Cautions
Warnings/Cautions: This symbol is intended to alert the user to the presence of
important operating, maintenance or servicing instructions. Disregarding a warning
could result in patient and/or user injury as well as damage to equipment.
Electrical Shock Hazard Warning: This symbol is intended to alert the user to the
presence of electrical shock hazards. It is important to follow all instructions and special
procedures to avoid electrical shock to the operator, care provider and/or patient.

Device Information
Description of the Device
The Sizewise™ Air Transfer Device (ATD) is used to assist with lateral transfers and repositioning
anywhere in the hospital. It is radiolucent and artifact free so patients may remain on the mattress for all
ancillary procedures, including Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, or Radiation Therapy.
The Sizewise™ATD has a weight capacity of up to 1,200 lbs (544 kg); it is available in four different
widths to accommodate the body mass of the patient.
The Purpose of the Device
The purpose of the Sizewise™ ATD is to dramatically reduce back injuries to staff that are caused by
lateral transfers and repositioning. In addition, fewer staff members are required and a very comfortable
and safe transfer for the patient is provided.
Indications for Use After the patient is placed on the mattress and the air supply is activated, low
pressure air from the small air supply will inflate the mattress. At the same time the air is supporting the
patient, the air is escaping from the perforations in the underside of the mattress. The escaping air acts
as a lubricant to reduce friction, which facilitates effortless transfers. With less force needed to transfer
a patient, there is less physical effort and strain expended by caregivers.
