General Warnings and Precautions
WARNINGS
WARNING: DO NOT use this device if the power cord is cut, frayed or loosely connected to the
device.
WARNING: (110V unit) Electrically Powered Mechanism. Electrical Hazard may occur if
device is plugged into inadequate electrical outlet. To avoid electrical shock hazard, make sure
unit is plugged into a grounded A/C 110V outlet.
WARNING: (220V unit) Electrically Powered Mechanism. Electrical Hazard may occur if
device is plugged into inadequate electrical outlet. To avoid electrical shock hazard, make sure
unit is plugged into a grounded A/C 220V outlet.
WARNING: DO NOT remove cover. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel. Disconnect
power supply before servicing or cleaning.
WARNING: Be sure to secure mattress to the bed frame with the straps provided. Failure to do
so could result in personal injury or equipment damage.

Device Information
Description of the Device
The SW™(Sizewise) Stratus Series Clinically Effective Mattress System consists of a specialized air
inflatable bladder (air mattress) and an electrically powered Blower / Control Unit. The Stratus series is a
high quality and affordable air support surface suitable for medium and high risk pressure ulcer treatment.
It has been specifically designed for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers and offers an affordable
solution for 24 hour pressure ulcer prevention and treatment.
Purpose of the Device
The purpose of the SW™Stratus Series Clinically Effective Mattress System is to provide therapeutic
benefit to patients at risk or suffering from pressure ulcers.
Indications for Use
The SW™ Stratus Series Clinically Effective Mattress System is designed to reduce the incidence of
pressure ulcers while optimizing patient comfort. It is indicated for use in Individual home care and long-
term care settings for pain management as prescribed by a physician.
Contraindication
Patient conditions for which the application of pressure redistributing therapy on an alternation system is
contraindicated as follows:
Cervical or skeletal traction
Unstable spinal cord injuries

Unpacking/Parts Breakdown
The SW™ (Sizewise) Stratus Series Clinically Effective Mattress System consists of a control unit
(pump), power cord, a mattress and a waterproof, vapor permeable, easy-to-clean cover.

Unpacking Instructions (no tools required)
Remove the products from the packing material and examine for shipping damage. If damage is detected
in shipping, contact the freight company and file a damage complaint immediately.
Environmental Conditions:
CAUTION: Keep out of direct sunlight.
DO NOT expose to temperatures greater than 35°C (95°F) or below -18°C (0°F).
DO NOT expose the pump/control unit to humidity greater than 95%.
Portable and mobile RF communications equipment can affect Medical Electrical Equipment. The use of
accessories, transducers and cables, other than those specified by the manufacturer, may result in increased
emissions or decreased immunity of the equipment or system.
The equipment or system should not be used adjacent to, or stacked with, other equipment; and if adjacent
or stacked use is necessary, the equipment or system should be observed to verify normal operation in the
configuration in which it will be used.
NOTE: Some cellular telephones, and similar devices, transmit signals while they are ON, even when not
being used. During Operation, cell phones with a maximum output power of 2W shall be kept at least 11’
(3.3 m) away.

Directions for Mattress Placement:
The Support Surface Pumps come with various models of cell-type mattresses of different materials.
(Nylon/PVC or Nylon/Pu) and constructions depending on the system model. Please refer to the
Specifications section for details.
Please consult your Sizewise Representative for more information of the mattress specifications.
1.) Place the mattress flatly on the bed frame. The inflation tube should be towards the foot end so
that it can be connected to the inflation nozzles on the pump. See figure below for reference.
2.) Cover the mattress with a cotton sheet to avoid direct skin contact, reduce friction and
contamination of the mattress.
3.) Hang the pump/control unit over the frame or at the foot board of the bed. Make sure the pump is
secured.
4.) Connect the inflation tubes from the mattress to the pump’s inflating nozzles. Make sure they are
properly attached.
NOTE: Make Sure the air hoses are not kinked or tucked under the mattress. Also check if the CPR valve
is properly attached and can be reached outside the bedframe.
5.) Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet appropriately grounded and rated. (voltage for
pump/control unit and power supply should be compatible)
NOTE: Before inserting the plug into the outlet, make sure the voltage is compatible. Also make sure this
product is well grounded.
6.) Turn on the power by pressing the power switch at the right side of the pump.
7.) Be sure to unplug the power cord when the pump is not in use.
Warning or Safety Instructions Relating to Set-Up:
WARNING: (110V unit ONLY) Ensure the power cord is plugged into a properly
grounded AC 110V outlet.
(220V unit ONLY) Ensure the power cord is plugged into a properly grounded AC 220V
outlet.

Operating Instructions
1. Remove standard mattress from the frame.
2. Replace standard mattress with the SW™ Stratus Series Mattress. (Be sure air tubing is at the
foot end of the frame.)
3. Strap air support mattress to the bed frame on all four sides.
4. Place control/pump unit on the footboard of the bed frame using the two hinged hooks located on
the back of the unit.
5. Attach the air tubing to the control/pump unit, being sure it snaps in tight. (Be sure air tubing is
not kinked and is unobstructed.)
6. Turn master power switch ON, located on the side of the unit.
7. Press the Autofirm button for quick inflation.
8. Place the patient on the mattress AFTER inflation to ensure the air cells DO NOT become
twisted or kinked.
9. To get the control/pump unit out of Autofirm mode, press Autofirm button again.
Modes of Operation
Products are designed to provide maximum comfort to patients. Be sure to use this product in a proper
way to optimize its value. Read entire manual prior to use.
DO NOT use another pump other than the Stratus models with the mattress supplied.
DO NOT change any component yourself. Contact a Sizewise Representative for repair, parts or
technical assistance. (see contact information on the last page of this manual)

SW™ Stratus Series 3.1
1.) Turn the Power on. The indicator (green) of the power switch will light up, and the pump starts
to pump air into the mattress. When the NORMAL PRESSURE indicator (green) lights up, the
pressure in the mattress has reached the pre-defined level, and the patient can then be placed on
the mattress.
2.) Press STATIC/ALTERNATING KEY TO ENTER ALTERNATING mode. Static mode
provides an even support of the patient and also prevents the patient from bottoming out when the
patient is in a sitting position.
3.) Turn the PRESSURE-ADJUST knob to set a comfortable pressure level from soft to firm in
accordance with preference for use.
NOTE: The LOW PRESSURE indicator (red) will light up and a BEEP sound will begin the operation as
inflation undergoes to alert that pressure is low.
NOTE: If the LOW PRESSURE indicator (red) won’t turn off, please refer to the troubleshooting section
of this manual (see table of contents)
NOTE: In any case, pressing the MUTE key will silence the alarm, but the indicator will continue to
light. Repressing the MUTE key will reactivate the audible alarm.

The functions of the Support Surface pumps are described below by model. Please refer to the figures of
each type.

■POWER switch (1)
The POWER switch is at the lower right side of the pump.
Turning the POWER switch ON/OFF will start/ stop the pump. The switch lights up when the
power is ON, and extinguishes when the power is OFF.
■PRESSURE-ADJUST Knob (2)
Turn the knob to set a comfortable pressure level from soft to firm.
■NORMAL PRESSURE Indicator (3)
This indicator (green) lights up when the pressure reaches the user-selected level.
■LOW PRESSURE indicator (4)
This indicator (red) flickers when the pressure is below the pre-defined level.

1.) Turn the power ON. A BEEP sound will begin the operation. The indicator (green) of the
power switch will light up, and the pump starts to pump air into the mattress. The LOW
PRESSURE indicator (red) will flicker as the inflation of the mattress begins.
NOTE: The audible alarm (low pressure) will not be heard when inflating the mattress for the first time.
2.) Automatic Static mode: The pump will automatically enter STATIC mode when it is turned on
and pump the pressure up to 10 mmHg. It will then return to the last setting before it was shut
down. The pump has the memory function for the final setting before shut down.
NOTE: If the pressure does not reach 10mmHg, 40 minutes after the pump is turned on, the audible alarm
will start to beep, and the LOW PRESSURE indicator will continue flickering.
3.) MODE Selection. Press the STATIC/ALTERNATING key to change the function mode
ALTERNATING to STATIC and vice versa.
NOTE: It is recommended to always keep the pump in the ALTERNATING mode when the patient is in
a lying position for more efficient pressure ulcer prevention and treatment.
NOTE: The STATIC mode provides an even support that will make the patient transfer or reposition
easier. The STATIC mode also prevents the patient from bottoming out when in the seated position.
4.) Pressure adjustment. The pressure of the mattress can be set by pressing the PRESSURE
SELECTION key. There is a total of 8 different pressure levels selectable ranging from 10 to 50
mmHg.
NOTE: Pressing the [+] key will bring the pressure one level higher, and the [-] key will bring the
pressure one level lower. It is important that Patient Care instructions are followed (see table of contents)
in accordance with the guidelines indicated in this manual and also of the care provider and protocols of
the facility.
5.) Automatic pressure control. During normal operation, the 5.1 pump/control will monitor
pressure changes and keep it constant at the set level. When the pressure is below the set pressure

level, the pump will automatically start to inflate the mattress. The inflation will stop when the
set pressure level is reached.
NOTE: If the pressure is consistently low, the audible alarm will beep and its indicator will light up to
attract attention. If there should be obvious leakage, for example cause by loose connection of tubes, the
audio/visual alarm will be activated.
6.) For nursing and caring convenience. Press the AUTOFIRM key to automatically inflate the
mattress to the maximum level (above 50mmHg) for about 30 minutes. The pump will return to
the previous pressure level 30 minutes later.
7.) Placing the patient in the seating position. Press the SEAT key to provide firmer support
(added extra pressure) to prevent the patient from bottoming out when placing the patient in a
seating position.
8.) To silence the alarm. If the pressure drops below the pre-defined level, the LOW PRESSURE
indicator will be turned on with a “BEEP” alarm tone. If the pump fails to alternate in the
ALTERNATING mode, the SYSTEM FAILURE indicator will be turned on with a “BEEP”
alarm tone. If the pump loses power input, the POWER FAILURE indicator will be turned on
with a “BEEP” alarm tone. In all these cases, pressing the MUTE key will silence the alarm, but
the LED indicator will continue flickering. Repressing the MUTE key will reactivate the audible
alarm.

■POWER switch (1)
The POWER switch is at the lower right side of the pump.
Turning the POWER switch ON/OFF will start/stop the pump. The switch lights up when the
power is ON, and extinguishes when the power is OFF.
■MUTE key (2)
The audio/ visual alarm turns on either when the pressure is low or the system fails to alternate.
Press the Mute key to mute the audible alarm, and the MUTE indicator (amber) will light up. The
alarm indicator will continue flickering. Re-press the Mute key to re-activate the audible alarm and
to extinguish the MUTE indicator.
■PANEL LOCK key (3)
Press the PANEL LOCK key for 3 seconds to lock the panel. Press the PANEL LOCK key for 3
seconds again to unlock the panel. The PANEL LOCK indicator (amber) lights up when the panel is
locked. The panel will automatically lock up if no operations are done for over 30 seconds.

■AUTOFIRM key (4)
Press the AUTOFIRM key to set AUTOFIRM mode to quickly inflate the air mattress to the
maximum pressure which facilitates nursing and caring. The AUTOFIRM indicator (amber) lights
up when the system is in AUTOFIRM mode. The system will automatically return to the previous
mode 30 minutes after the
AUTOFIRM mode is in operation. It is also possible to cancel AUTOFIRM mode by pressing the
AUTOFIRM key.
■SEAT key (5)
Press the SEAT key to set SEAT mode to inflates all cells and increase the pressure by 5.7 mmHg.
The SEAT indicator (amber) lights up when the system is in SEAT mode. To cancel SEAT mode,
press the SEAT key again.
■STATIC/ALTERNATING key (6)
Press the STATIC/ALTERNATING key to switch the air mattress to STATIC mode or
ALTERNATING mode. The amber STATIC indicator (or the green ALTERNATING indicator)
turns on to indicate the corresponding operating mode.
■CYCLE TIME key (7)
The CYCLE TIME key can be used to select the appropriate cycle time of the inflation cycle. 4
different cycle times, 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes can be selected and are indicated by the number of
indicators (green) light up.
■PRESSURE SELECTION keys (8)
The PRESSURE SELECTION keys can be used to decide the pressure in the inflated cells in the
mattress. 8 pressure levels are indicated by the number of indicators (green) light up.
■SYSTEM FAILURE indicator (9)
This indicator (red) flickers when the system fails to alternate.
■LOW PRESSURE indicator (10)
This indicator (red) flickers when the pressure is below the pre-defined level.

7.) Low air loss on-demand. Press LAL (Low Air Loss) key to start an air flow function beneath the
mattress cover. This function helps regulating the temperature and humidity of the mattress. It
helps to keep the patient skin cool and dry.
8.) Placing the patient in the seating position. Automatic SEAT mode to provide firmer support
(added extra pressure) to prevent the patient from bottoming out when placing the patient in a
seating position.
9.) To silence the alarm. If the pressure drops below the pre-defined level, the LOW PRESSURE
indicator will be turned on with a “BEEP” alarm tone. If the pump fails to alternate in the
ALTERNATING mode, the SYSTEM FAILURE indicator will be turned on with a “BEEP”
alarm tone. If the pump loses power input, the POWER FAILURE indicator will be turned on
with a “BEEP” alarm tone. In all these cases, pressing the MUTE key will silence the alarm, but
the LED indicator will continue flickering. Repressing the MUTE key will reactivate the audible
alarm.
10.) CPR Function. When there is a need to perform CPR on the patient, pull the CPR strap to
release the air immediately from the mattress. The CPR strap is located at the front right-hand
side of the mattress as you are lying down. When the bed is set up for the first time, and during
normal operation, please make sure the CPR strap is not blocked. It should always be visible
clearly and can be reached immediately. If the situation allows, after pulling the CPR straps you
can also disconnect the mattress from the pump to speed up the deflation process.

POWER switch (1)
The POWER switch is at the lower right side of the pump.
Turning the POWER switch ON/OFF will start/stop the pump. The switch lights up when the
power is ON, and extinguishes when the power is OFF.
MUTE key (2)
The audio/ visual alarm turns on either when the pressure is low or the system fails to alternate.
Press the Mute key to mute the audible alarm, and the MUTE indicator (amber) will light up. The
alarm indicator will continue flickering. Re-press the Mute key to re-activate the audible alarm and
to extinguish the MUTE indicator.
PANEL LOCK key (3)
Press the PANEL LOCK key for 3 seconds to lock the panel. Press the PANEL LOCK key for 3
seconds again to unlock the panel. The PANEL LOCK indicator (amber) lights up when the panel is
locked. The panel will automatically lock up if no operations are done for over 30 seconds.
AUTOFIRM key (4)
Press the AUTOFIRM key to set AUTOFIRM mode to quickly inflate the air mattress to the
maximum pressure which facilitates nursing and caring. The AUTOFIRM indicator (amber) lights
up when the system is in AUTOFIRM mode. The system will automatically return to the previous
mode 30 minutes after the AUTOFIRM mode is in operation. It is also possible to cancel
AUTOFIRM mode by pressing the AUTOFIRM key.
LOW AIR LOSS key (5)
Press LAL (Low Air Loss) key to start an air flow function beneath the mattress cover. This
function helps regulating the temperature and humidity of the mattress. It helps to keep the patient
skin cool and dry.
STATIC/ALTERNATING key (6)
Press the STATIC/ALTERNATING key to switch the air mattress to STATIC mode or
ALTERNATING mode. The amber STATIC indicator (or the green ALTERNATING indicator)
turns on to indicate the corresponding operating mode.
CYCLE TIME key (7)
The CYCLE TIME key can be used to select the appropriate cycle time of the inflation cycle. 4
different cycle times, 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes can be selected and are indicated by the number of
indicators (green) light up.

PRESSURE SELECTION keys (8)
The PRESSURE SELECTION keys can be used to decide the pressure in the inflated cells in the
mattress. 8 pressure levels are indicated by the number of indicators (green) light up.
SEAT indicator (9)
This indicator (yellow) light when the SEAT(Auto-Seat function) is action.
POWER FAILURE indicator (10)
This indicator (red) flickers when the power input is fail.
SYSTEM FAILURE indicator (11)
This indicator (red) flickers when the system fails to alternate.
LOW PRESSURE indicator (12)
This indicator (red) flickers when the pressure is below the pre-defined level.
