Follow each step in the order presented in these instructions.
Open the carton carefully as it contains expensive drying equip-
ment. If after uncrating the equipment you find any damage (no
matter how slight), show it to your supervisor.
A listing of the safety precautions to be observed when uncrating
and installing this dryer can be found on Section 1 of these
instructions. Do not begin uncrating/installing this equipment until
you have become familiar with this information.
To properly install this unit, you will need the Equipment Drawing
(previouslyfurnished),showingallutilityserviceandspacerequire-
ments. If drawings cannot be located, replacement copies may be
obtained by writing, wiring, faxing, or telephoning STERIS giving
the serial, equipment and model numbers of your dryer.
If STERIS supervision is desired for installing this equipment,
contact the STERIS Regional Office nearest you.
The Reliance®1024/1034 Laboratory Glassware Dryers are de-
signed for efficient drying laboratory glassware. These dryers are
specifically designed to only process goods as outlined in this
manual. If there is any doubt about a specific material or product,
contact the manufacturer of the product for the recommended
processing technique.
Any alteration of this equipment not authorized or performed by
STERIS Engineering Service which could affect its operation will
void the warranty, could adversely affect sterilization efficacy,
could violate federal, state and local regulations and jeopardize
your insurance coverage.
A thorough preventive maintenance program is essential to safe
and proper unit operation. This manual contains maintenance
schedules and procedures which should be followed for satisfac-
tory equipment performance.
You are encouraged to contact STERIS concerning our compre-
hensive Preventive Maintenance Agreement. Under the terms of
this agreement, preventive maintenance, adjustments, and re-
placement of worn parts are done on a scheduled basis to assure
equipment performance at peak capability and to help avoid
untimely or costly interruptions. STERIS maintains a nationwide

The following is a listing of the safety precautions which must be observed when uncrating, installing and operating
this equipment. WARNINGS indicate the potential for danger to personnel, and CAUTIONS indicate the potential
for damage to equipment. These precautions are repeated in whole or in part, throughout the instructions.
WARNING - PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE HAZARD:
When moving the unit, use a forklift. Do not use door(s) or door handle(s) for lifting.
WARNING - LACERATION/EYE INJURY HAZARD:
Whenremovingbands, weareyeprotection andalwaysuse atoolspecifically designedtocut thebands. The
bands used to secure this carton can cause personal injury when cut and tension is released.
WARNING - LACERATION HAZARD:
When removing bolts or nails, wear gloves to protect your hands.
WARNING - BURN HAZARD:
When blowing out utility supply lines, wear gloves, face shield and protective clothing.
CAUTION - POSSIBLE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE:
When removing adhesives from stainless steel, use a solvent specially formulated for that purpose. Rub in
a back-and-forth motion (in same direction as surface grain). Solvent rubbed in a circular motion or applied
with a wire brush or steel wool on door and chamber assemblies can be harmful to stainless steel. Do not use
solvents on painted surfaces.

UNCRATING INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: Thisequipmentweighs approximately500lbs (225kg).Use
a forklift to move equipment.
NOTE:Uncrateon levelflooras closetoinstallation siteaspossible.
1. Position unit to open cardboard carton from the top. Provide a
clear work area on all sides.
2. Carefully cut and remove bands from crate (see Figure 2-1).
3. Discard bands before continuing.
4. Lift off cardboard top.
5. Remove nails attaching cardboard to skid.
6. Pull cardboard carton away from unit. Discard carton.
1. With dryer still mounted on skid, use a forklift to move dryer to
installation site.
2. Carefully cut and remove bands securing dryer to skid.
3. Discard bands before continuing.
4. Removeanddiscard cardboardcornersand polystyrene wrap
from around unit.
5. Remove six screws attaching top access panel to unit. Lift
panel away from unit.
6. Check tip indicator, located inside dryer service compartment
(see Figure 2-2). Tip indicator contains a blue compound at the
bottomoftheindicator.Ifunithasbeen tipped,residuefrom the
blue compound will be found higher up in the indicator.
If unit was tipped, notify STERIS regional office. A service
technician will review the equipment and determine if unit was
damaged.
7. Remove and discard Styrofoam block and skid from under
dryer.

1. Remove all tape from dryer.
2. Check that filter is correctly installed in top access panel. Filter
should rest in panel cutout, under tabs (see Figure 2-3).
3. Check that filter clip is positioned directly over filter. If neces-
sary,loosenwingnut,move filterclipoverfilterand tightenwing
nut.
4. Attach top access panel to unit with screws previously re-
moved.
5. Open chamber door(s). Remove and unwrap shelves, guide
tabs and Operator Manual.
6. Make sure operator receives Operator Manual.
7. Insert guide tabs into shelf support strips in chamber (see
Figure 2-4).
8. Place shelves on guide tabs.
9. Close chamber door(s).
10. Remove all packing and tape from control panel.
11. Discard all packing material removed during uncrating proce-
dures.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Before Operating
Equipment
1. Review installation requirements:
a. Clearance — Clearance space shown on Equipment Draw-
ing is necessary for easy installation and proper operation and
maintenance of dryer.
b.Utility service lines:
• If unit is equipped with steam option, shutoff valve (not
by STERIS) should be installed on steam line near dryer
(see Figure 3-1). Shutoff valve must be capable of being
locked in OFF position.
• Disconnectswitch(notbySTERIS)shouldbe installedin
electric supply line near dryer (see Figure 3-2). Discon-
nect switch must be capable of being locked in the OFF
position only.
• If this machine is installed next to other equipment,
disconnectswitchshouldbe located so thatservicecan
be shut off to one piece of equipment at a time.
• Utility service requirements are shown on Equipment
Drawing. This machine requires either 208 volts, 60 Hz,
3-phase, 4-wire or 480 volts, 60 Hz, 3-phase, 3-wire.
Check Equipment Drawing or Identification Plate (lo-
cated inside dryer service compartment, see Figure 2-
2) for proper voltage.
2. Place dryer, as shown on Equipment Drawing, in correct
relation to building supply line. If unit is not at installation site,
refer to Uncrating Instructions (Section 2) for proper moving
instructions.
NOTE:Floorunderunitshould belevel.Ifnecessary,addshims(not
by STERIS) to level unit.
1. ELECTRIC — Connect building electrical supply to dryer.
Verify tight electrical connections.
2. STEAM — Blow out the building steam supply line to remove
chips, scale, etc. Connect line to dryer. Steam line is required
for steam heater option only.
3. VENTILATION — Connect dryer ventilation to a dedicated
building exhaust.
4. If unit is equipped with steam option, open building supply
valve and check for leaks. Correct if necessary.

1. Remove any adhesive found on panels and inside chamber
with a suitable solvent (such as Stoddard solution). Keep
solvents away from all painted surfaces or damage may result.
2. Inspect work area to be sure all materials used during installa-
tion have been removed.
THIS COMPLETES THE INSTALLATION. Contact yourlocal
STERIS representative for a demonstration on how to operate the

OPERATIONAL TEST
1. Open chamber door(s).
2. Check that drying chamber is empty and all packing material
has been removed.
3. If unit is equipped with manifold drying option, verify that
manifold connectors are installed.
4. Close door and press START pushbutton (see Figure 4-1).
5. Check that In Use indicator light comes on.
6. VerifybloweroperatesassoonasSTARTpushbuttonispressed.
7. Press STOP pushbutton. Check that In Use indicator light
goes off.
8. Open door(s) and allow unit to cool.
DRYER IS NOW READY FOR NORMAL OPERATION.
