Section 1 - Receiving
1.1 Preliminary Inspection
This item was thoroughly inspected and carefully packed
prior to shipment and all necessary precautions were taken to
ensure safe arrival. Immediately upon receipt, before the unit is
moved from the receiving area, carefully examine the shipment
for loss or damage. Unpack the shipment and inspect both inte-
rior and exterior for any in-transit damage.
1.2 Visible Loss or Damage
If any loss or damage is discovered, note any discrepancies
on the delivery receipt and call the delivering carrier and
request that their representative perform an inspection. Do not
discard any of the packing material and do not move the ship-
ment from the receiving area.
1.3 Responsibility for Shipping Damage
For products shipped F.O.B. Marietta, Ohio, the responsi-
bility of Thermo Scientific ends when the merchandise is
loaded onto the carrier’s vehicle.
On F.O.B. Destination shipments, Thermo and the carrier’s
responsibility ends when your Receiving Department personnel
sign a free and clear delivery receipt.
Whenever possible, Thermo will assist in settling claims
for loss or in-transit damage.
Section 2 - Features
2.1 Features
The Model 2032 Thawing Bath is designed to thaw from
1 to 8 plasma units in 25 minutes, or 4 red cell units in about 12
minutes.
The bath temperature can be set at 37°C with a fixed set-
point switch, or it can be dialed to any desired temperature
between 5°C above ambient to 60°C. The temperature control
maintains the bath temperature to within ±0.1°C of setpoint.

Section 3 - Installation and Start-Up
3.1 Location
Locate the bath on a firm, level surface in an area of mini-
mum ambient temperature fluctuation.
3.2 Connecting the Pump
The pump must be plugged into the receptacle on the back
of the bath. The electrical receptacle and pump cord are used to
make pump replacement easier, to eliminate pump damage dur-
ing shipping, and to minimize the shipping container size.
Plug the pump’s electrical cord into the electrical recepta-
cle on the upper back of the bath. The receptacle output and the
pump are controlled by the bath pump controls.
Only connect the pump to the electrical receptacle
on the back of the bath. Connecting the pump to a
power supply other than this receptacle will bypass
the pump controls, damage the pump and void the
warranty.
3.3 Installing the Thermometer
Insert the thermometer into the thermometer holder on the
top of the bath work area.
3.4 Filling (and Emptying) the Bath
Do not operate the bath without liquid in the tank.
Severe damage to the bath heater will result.
Check the bath regularly to maintain a proper
operating level.
Fill the bath with water having a quality of 50K to 1M
Ohm to protect and prolong the life of the stainless steel tank.
Use of water outside the specified range will decrease the oper-
ating life of the unit and void the warranty.
Fill the bath to the step, or ledge, on the inside of the bath
tank. Tank capacity is approximately 5.3 gallons.
The drain connection for emptying the bath, or lowering
the fluid level, is located on the unit back. If desired, the nipple
cap can be removed and a suitable valve installed (1/4” MPT).
Do not empty the bath by tipping.
3.5 Connecting to Power
With the main power OFF, connect the bath to an adequate
power source. See the electrical data plate mounted on the unit
for exact electrical specifications.
3.6 Setting the Bath Temperature
Turn the bath on. Before setting the temperature, turn the
overtemp safety thermostat knob to 10 (fully clockwise) so that
the safety control indicator does not light while the temperature
setpoint is being established.
If a temperature of 37°C is desired, set temperature switch
to the 37C position.
If a temperature other than 37°C is desired, set the switch
to the Variable position and set the temperature control knob to
the desired setpoint. Any value between 5°C above ambient and
60°C may be selected.
3.7 Setting the Overtemp Safety Thermostat
After the bath temperature has stabilized at the operating
setpoint as indicated by the thermometer, set the overtemp safe-
ty thermostat as follows:
1. Turn the overtemp control knob slowly counterclockwise
until the safety control indicator lights.
2. Turn the overtemp control knob clockwise approximately
two units on the scale. The safety control indicator light
should go out.
The overtemp safety thermostat is now set a few degrees
above the temperature control setpoint. When the bath tempera-
ture rises to the overtemp control point, the safety control indi-
cator will light, power to the heaters will shut off, and the bath
temperature will be maintained at the overtemp control point.
When an overtemp condition occurs, the cause must be
determined and corrected before normal operation under the
main temperature controller can be resumed.
Note: When the chamber temperature control setpoint is
changed, the overtemp safety thermostat must be reset to
accommodate the change.
3.8 Installing the Plasma Thawing Racks
The bath will hold two plasma thawing racks. Place the
rack in the bath tank and rest the rack on the ledge provided in
the sides of the tank. Place the plasma to be thawed in the rack
and adjust the clip on the top of the rack so it will hold the plas-
ma in place.
