Ultra high eciency “green” battery charger
With up to 95% eciency, these chargers generate up to four times
less heat when compared to the industry standard. And once the
battery is fully charged, power consumption reduces to 0,5 Watt,
some ve to ten times better than the industry standard.
Durable, safe and silent
- Low thermal stress on the electronic components.
- Protection against ingress of dust, water and chemicals.
- Protection against overheating: the output current will reduce as
temperature increases up to 60°C, but the charger will not fail.
- The chargers are totally silent: no cooling fan or any other
moving parts.
Storage mode: less corrosion of the positive plates
Even the lower oat charge voltage that follows the absorption
period will cause grid corrosion. It is therefore essential to reduce
the charge voltage even further when the battery remains connect-
ed to the charger during more than 48 hours.
Temperature compensated charging
The optimal charge voltage of a lead-acid battery varies inversely
with temperature. The Blue Power IP65 Charger measures ambient
temperature during the test phase and compensates for tempera-
ture during the charge process. The temperature is measured again
when the charger is in low current mode during oat or storage.
Special settings for a cold or hot environment are therefore not
needed.
Li-ion battery mode
The Blue Power Chargeruses a specic charging algorithm for Li-
ion (LiFePO₄) batteries, with automatic Li-ion under voltage protec-
tion reset.

Reconditioning
A lead-acid battery that that has been insuciently
charged or has been left discharged during days or
weeks will deteriorate due to sulfation. If caught in time,
sulfation can sometimes be partially reversed by charg-
ing the battery with low current up to a higher voltage.
Recovery function for fully
discharged batteries
Most reverse polarity protected chargers will not
recognize, and therefore not recharge a battery which
has been discharged to zero or nearly zero Volts. The
Blue Power Charger however will attempt to recharge
a fully discharged battery with low current and resume
normal charging once sucient voltage has developed
across the battery terminals.

1 General Description
1.1 The highest efficiency ever!
Setting a new industry standard: with up to 95% efficiency these
chargers waste three to four times less heat.
And once the battery is fully charged, power consumption
reduces to less than a Watt, some five to ten times better than the
industry standard.
1.2 Adaptive charge algorithm: charge/test – bulk –
absorption – recondition – float – storage
The Blue Power charger features a microprocessor controlled
‘adaptive’ battery management. The ‘adaptive’ feature will
automatically optimise the charging process relative to the way
the battery is being used.
1. Charge/test
Tests if the battery can accept charge
2. Bulk
Charges the battery with maximum current until
absorption voltage is reached (battery 80% charged)
3. Absorption
Charges the battery at constant voltage and with
decreasing current until it is fully charged
4. Recondition
Optional reconditioning for deeply discharged an
sulfated batteries: charges the battery at increased
voltage with reduced current.
5. Float
Keeps the battery at constant voltage and fully
charged
6. Storage
Keeps the battery at reduced constant voltage to
reduce gassing and corrosion of the positive plates.
Refreshes the battery every week.
The charger will start a new charge cycle during step
5 or 6 if, due to a load, it switches to maximum current
mode during more than 4 seconds.

LiFePO₄batteries are charged with a simple bulk – absorption –
float algorithm.
1.4 Internal temperature sensor
Measures ambient temperature during the charge/test phase and
compensates for temperature during absorption. Measures
temperature again when in low current mode during float or
storage.
1.5 Totally silent
No fan.
1.6 Protected against overheating
Output current will reduce as temperature increases up to 60°C,
but the charger will not fail.
1.7 Reverse polarity protected
No sparks, short circuit proof and reverse polarity protected.
The charger will start charging even when the battery has
been discharged to zero volt.
2 Safety instructions
• Never charge a frozen battery.
• Never place the charger on top of the battery when charging.
• Always provide for proper ventilation during charging.
• Avoid covering the charger.
• A battery being charged could emit explosive gasses. Prevent
sparks close to the battery
• Battery acid is corrosive. Rinse immediately with water if acid
comes into contact with skin.
• If the charger has not switched to float or storage within 30
hours, this is an indication of an error. Manually disconnect the
charger.
• Batteries consume water during use and charging. For flooded
batteries where water can be added, the water level should be

checked regularly. If the water level is low add distilled or
demineralised water.
• This appliance is not designed for use by young children or
people who cannot read or understand the manual unless they
are under the supervision of a responsible person to ensure that
they can use the battery charger safely. Store and use the battery
charger out of the reach of children, and ensure that children
cannot play with the charger.
• Connection to the mains supply must be in accordance with the
national regulations for electrical installations.
• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the
manufacturer, its service agent or similary qualified persons in
order to avoid a hazard.
• Never try to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
3. Charging
1. Connect the charger to the battery.
2. Connect the charger to the wall socket. The CHARGE LED will
indicate that the mains cable is connected to the wall socket.
The charge status LED’s will blink in case of reverse polarity
connection, short-circuit or if a 12 V charger is connected to a
24 V battery.
3. Press the MODE-button to select a charging program.
The charger will remember the mode setting and start in the
same mode the next time it is used.
4. The battery is fully charged when the READY LED is on,
simultaneously with the FLOAT or STORAGE LED.
5. Stop charging at any time by disconnecting the mains cable
from the wall socket.

b.The absorbtion duration depends on how deep the battery was
discharged. Maximum duration: 8 hours.
c. RECONDITION is applicable to the NORMAL and HIGH
settings only.
d. During RECONDITION the max current is equal to the stated
% of the nominal current until the max voltage is reached.
Example for a 12/15 charger: the recondition current is
15 x 0,08 = 1,2 A.
The recondition LED will blink during recondition mode.
