mate number of calorie you have burned. (Thi
number include both fat calorie and carbohydrate
calorie . See FAT BURNING on page 9.)
• Scan—Thi mode di play the calorie , fat calorie ,
rep per minute, time, and di tance mode , for a
few econd each, in a repeating cycle.
STEP-BY-STEP CONSOLE OPERATION
Before the console can be operated, batter es
must be nstalled ( ee a embly tep 3 on page 4). If
there i a thin heet of clear pla tic on the face of the
con ole, remove it.
Follow the tep below to operate the con ole.
Turn on the power
To turn on the power, pre the on/re et button or
imply begin exerci ing on the cro -country
kier. When the power i turned on, the entire di -
play will appear for two econd . The con ole will
then be ready for u e. Note: If batterie were ju t
in talled, the power will already be on.
Select one of the three pacer programs or the
manual mode
To elect a
pacer program,

have elected. To elect the manual mode, pre
the program button until the program indicator di -
appear . The program will be elected in the fol-
lowing order: program 1 (Interval), program 2
(Aerobic), program 3 (Fat Burn), manual mode.

Important: The target pace s a goal pace. Your
actual pace may be slower than the target
pace, espec ally dur ng the f rst few months of
your exerc se program. Be sure to exerc se at
a pace that s comfortable for you.

Turn off the power
To turn off the power, s mply wa t for a few
m nutes. If the ki pedal are not moved and the
con ole button are not pre ed for a few min-
ute , the power will turn off automatically.

DESCRIPTION OF THE CONSOLE
The innovative con ole offer a manual mode and
three pacer program . The pacer program are
de igned to help you achieve pecific exerci e goal
by pacing your exerci e. The program include a ta-
mina-building Interval program, an Aerobic program,
and a pecial Fat Burn program. Whether you elect
the manual mode or one of the pacer program , the
con ole will provide continuou exerci e feedback dur-
ing your workout . Plea e read page 6 and 7 before
operating the con ole.
HOW THE PACER PROGRAMS OPERATE

Look at the graph for a moment ( ee the drawing
above). Each graph i divided into ten column , with
ix bar in each column. The column repre ent two-
minute time period , and the red bar how what the
target pace will be. In the fir t column of the Fat Burn
graph, for example, there i one red bar. Thi how
that during the fir t two minute of the Fat Burn pro-
gram, the target pace will be 40 repetition ( tride )
per minute ( ee the cale at the right end of the
graph). In the econd column there are five red bar .
Thi how that during the econd two-minute time
period, the target pace will be 80 tride per minute.
Note: Becau e there are ten two-minute period , each
program will la t for twenty minute .
DESCRIPTION OF THE MONITOR MODES
The ix monitor mode provide continuou exerci e
feedback. The mode are de cribed below.
• Rep per minute (REPS MIN)—Thi mode how
your pace, in repetition ( tride ) per minute.
• Time—If you elect one of the three pacer pro-
gram , thi mode will count down the time remain-
ing in the program. If you elect the manual mode,
thi mode will count up the length of time you have
exerci ed. Note: If you top exerci ing for ten ec-
ond or longer, the time mode will pau e.
