Inspection & Setup
Inspection & Setup
Your Wylie Power Sprayer was manufactured to the high-
est standards of quality. It is necessary though, to check
to make sure that nothing was damaged during shipping.
Check bolts and fasteners for tightness, especially lug nuts.
Check the pump and plumbing for any signs of damage.
Your Wylie LCS sprayer was completely assembled at
the factory and should not need any additional assembly
before use.
Attaching Sprayer to Tractor
Pin the hitch to the drawbar of the tractor. The elliptical tank
sprayer has a height adjustable hitch. Set the hitch so that
the trailer is level when attached to the tractor.
The pump may be equipped with a PTO drive shaft or the
pump may couple directly to the tractor PTO shaft.
The tractor engine should be shut o before
attaching the pump to the PTO shaft. Failure to do
so could possibly cause serious injury or death.
Figure A1
Height Adjustable Hitch
Figure A2
Pump With Drive Shaft Direct Coupled Pump
If your sprayer is equipped with the direct coupled pump,
make sure that the chain is attached to the frame of the
tractor to prevent rotation of the pump. (See Figure A2)
Preparing Sprayer for Operation
Add about 50 gallons of water to the spray tank. Do not
add any chemical until the sprayer has been checked for
proper operation.
Open the suction ball valve located beside the line strainer.
(Ball valves are open when the handle is in line with the
hose attached to the valve.) Open the agitator ball valve
located on the control stand. Check for any leaks from the
tank to the pump. Any uid leak on the suction side of the
pump will result in an air leak when the pump is started.
Do not add any chemical to the spray tank until the
sprayer has been checked for proper operation. Fail-
ure to do so could result in chemical exposure.
Figure A3
Open Ball Valves for Operation

7
Inspection & Setup
Check to see that the Hypro control valves are in the “o”
position (see Figure A4). Engage the PTO shaft to start the
pump. Water should be returning to the tank through the
agitator and the return line.
Boom Buster Nozzle Set Up
In order to check the operation of the “Boom Buster”
nozzles, ip the valve handles up on the center and right
valves (as you look back from the tractor). Water should
be spraying from both “Boom Buster” nozzles.
Flip the valve handle of the left valve. Engage the trigger
gun. Check for any leaks in the sprayer system.
The operating pressure is set by adjusting the pressure
relief valve located on the top of the Hypro control valve.
Tighten the pressure relief valve to increase the pressure.
Example: To set the pressure for the trigger gun, engage
the valve handle and the trigger gun. Note the pressure
gauge. To increase pressure, screw the pressure adjust-
ing knob “in”; to decrease pressure, screw the knob “out”.
Figure A4
“O” Control Valves “On” Control Valves
Figure A5
Adjusting Pressure Relief Valve
It may be necessary to partially close the agitator ball valve
in order to set the proper pressure. A fully open agitator
valve may prevent sucient uid to be available for ad-
equate pressure.
Maximum pressure for the 7560 Hypro pump is 300 psi.
Maximum pressure for the CDS/John Blue gear pump
is 200 psi. Do not set the pressure relief valve for a
higher setting than these recommended pressures.
Pump damage could result.
Use a similar procedure to set the pressure of the “Boom
Buster” nozzles. Generally, pressure for the “Boom Buster”
nozzles does not exceed 50 psi. It is necessary to reset the
pressure when changing between “Boom Buster” nozzles
and the trigger gun.
The agitator valve should be opened to keep chemicals in
proper suspension. Turn the valve parallel with the line to
open the agitator.
Extender Boom Set Up
The Extender boom combines fan nozzles spaced on 20”
with two Boom Buster nozzles mounted on the end of the
boom. The fan nozzles should not be installed until the
boom has been ushed with water.
Figure A6
Opening Agitator Valve

8
The Extender boom should be unfolded into the eld po-
sition. The Extender boom is equipped with over-center
breakaways that are cushioned with poly springs. Rotate
the Extender boom wings to the eld position. As the wing is
rotated, the poly springs will compress causing resistance.
This is normal and expected.
Flip the control valves on, engage the pump and allow water
to ow through the boom. Disengage the pump when the
boom is ushed.
Install the nozzles and tip screens on the nozzle bodies.
Push the tip in the cap, place the gasket on top of the tip,
add the tip strainer. Turn the cap clockwise ¼ turn to lock
the cap onto the nozzle body.
The Extender boom is divided into three sections (center
nozzles and each Boom Buster nozzle). The LCS sprayer
will usually be equipped with a handgun as well. The Hypro
manual control has three valves that controls the Extender
boom. An attached ball valve controls the handgun.

The LCS sprayer may also be equipped with an electric
control valve that can be operated from the tractor cab. A
variety of electric control systems are available. A typical
system will include solenoid valves, a pressure adjustment
valve and a control console. Refer to the operation instruc-
tions that are included with the control system.

9
Trigger Gun Operation
Engage the left valve (as viewed from the tractor seat)
on the control valve for trigger gun operation. Unroll the
hose from the hose rack. Pulling the trigger slightly allows
a wide spray pattern. Engaging the trigger fully allows a
straight stream. Adjust the pressure as needed for proper
operation.
The TeeJet 43 trigger gun is equipped with a trigger lock
to relieve fatigue when spraying for long periods of time.
Turn the stop adjustment nut to the desired position. En-
gage the trigger and set the trigger stop behind the stop
adjustment nut. To shut the gun o, pull the trigger again.
The trigger stop will automatically disengage.
It is important to know where you are spraying at all times.
Check the area to be sprayed. Make sure that people and
non-targeted animals will not be exposed to the spray. Do
not spray in windy conditions that will cause unwanted drift.
Wear the proper clothing (chemical resistant gloves, face
protection, long sleeve shirt, etc.) to protect you from ac-
cidental exposure to drift. Follow the label directions on
the chemical container for detailed instructions.
Operation
Operation
Add the desired amount of water or fertilizer to the sprayer
tank. Add the correct amount of chemical to the sprayer
tank. Read the instructions on the chemical container for
details regarding the proper amount of chemical to add.
Assure the control valve is “o” before starting the pump.
Engage the pump and check that the agitator valve is
open. Let the pump run for a few minutes to thoroughly
mix the solution.
“Boom Buster” Operation
Move the sprayer to the area to be sprayed. Be sure that
all people and animals are clear of the spray zone. The
solution can be sprayed from one or both nozzles. To spray
from one nozzle, select the desired side of the sprayer. (Left
and right are determined by standing behind the sprayer
and looking toward the tractor.)
Engage the proper valves on the Hypro manual valve.
See the tip chart on page 11 for the proper setting and
speed of the “Boom Buster” nozzles. Adjust pressure as
needed.
Proper clothing, gloves, face protection and
respirator (if needed) must be worn any time
chemicals are handled. Failure to do so risks
exposure, serious injury and possibly death.
Figure B1
Spraying With “Boom Buster” Nozzles
Check the area to be sprayed for people or
non-targeted animals. Failure to do so could
cause chemical exposure.
Never point the trigger gun at any part of your
body. The high uid pressure and/or chemical
exposure could cause serious bodily injury.

TeeJet #43 Gun Spray Tip Chart
Extender Boom Operation
Unfold the Extender boom to the eld position. Engage
the pump for several minutes with the agitator open to
thoroughly mix the spray solution. Refer to the Boom
Buster spray chart for the proper pressure and speed for
the desired application.
The Extender boom is standard equipped with “140” Boom
Buster nozzles and size “2” (8002VP) TeeJet spray tips.
These nozzles will apply spray volumes that are very
similar at various speeds and pressures. If a dierent style
TeeJet nozzle is installed, it is recommended that a size
“2” or “2.5” tip be used. The spray pressure should be 30
PSI or higher to maintain a proper spray pattern with the
Boom Buster nozzles.
If the “140” Boom Buster nozzle does not deliver the target
spray volume at the desired speed, a larger or smaller
nozzle may need to be installed. Contact a Wylie Spray
Center for assistance in sizing the proper TeeJet tips to
maintain uniform application.
Open the boom valves and begin spraying.
Operating Recommendations
Be aware of any obstructions, animals or people while
spraying. While the Extender boom is equipped with a
breakaway to help protect the boom, damage or injury
can occur in a collision.
The LCS sprayers are designed to operate at 4-6 mph. Care
and common sense, however, must be used to determine
the optimum speed for a particular spraying operation. Fac-
tors such as rough surface conditions, hillsides, terraces
and turns will require a slower operating speed.
Listed below are several things you should check to main-
tain trouble free spraying:
*Make sure spray tips are sized for the desired
volume and speed. (Refer to the Boom Buster
spray chart and the TeeJet Catalog or Wylie web
site (www.wyliesprayers.com.)
*Clean the tip strainers on the Extender boom
TeeJet tips as needed to maintain proper
spray pattern and ow.
* Clean pump strainer as needed to maintain
adequate ow to the pump.
*Keep the agitator ball valve open while spraying.

Operation
Ground Drive LCS Operation
The LCS-800GD is equipped with a ground drive CDS/John
Blue GNP6055 piston pump. The pump can be engaged by
either a tractor powered hydraulic system or a hand pump
hydraulic system. The tractor powered hydraulic system
has hydraulic hoses that plug into a tractor hydraulic circuit.
The hand pump hydraulic system is self-contained and can
be towed behind a tractor or a pickup.
Filling the Tank
Before lling the tank or spraying, make sure the tank valve
is open. Usually, this valve is only closed when repairs are
needed to the plumbing system.
< Open Tank Valve

maximum ground speed should be 7.25 mph.
It is important that the pump be primed and the boom full
before starting to spray. The pump should be set to “10”
and the drive wheel turned by hand until the spray solution
ows from the spray tips. The pump can be reset to the
desired application setting.

To engage the pump, tighten the hand pump pressure
release lever and stroke the handle to move the drive
wheel against the ground tire. Stroke the pump handle 4
or 5 strokes after the drive wheel touches the ground tire
to reach maximum engagement. The hand pump is factory
set to a maximum 250 psi to prevent excessive pressure
on the drive wheel. If it becomes necessary to increase the
pressure, call Wylie Service for instructions.
To disengage the pump, loosen the pressure release lever
and gravity will return the drive wheel to the transport posi-
tion. Retighten the pressure release lever.

Tractor Hydraulic System
Plug the hydraulic hoses into a tractor hydraulic circuit.
Extend the cylinder to engage the drive wheel. The system
is equipped with a pressure relief valve that is factory set
to 250 psi to prevent excessive force between the two
tires. If conditions require the pressure to be increased,
remove the cap, loosen the jam nut and tighten the set
screw ¼ turn. This will increase the pressure by about 125
psi. Retighten the jam nut, replace the aluminum washer
and replace the cap.
Spray Tips
It is important to make sure that the spray tips can handle
the volume and speed that is desired. Check the tip charts
for tip performance. Call Wylie Customer Service for as-
sistance in selecting additional spray tips.
To operate, open the pump valve, engage the pump and
spray.

Maintenance
Line Strainer Cleaning
From time to time it may be necessary to clean the line
strainer. The line strainer is located in the hose between the
spray tank and the pump. With the tractor turned o, close
the ball valve beside the strainer. Unscrew the bowl from
the strainer base. Remove and clean the screen. Check for
any damage to the screen that would allow debris to get to
the pump and nozzles. Empty and rinse the bowl. Replace
the bowl and screen. Make sure that the gasket/o-ring that
seals the bowl to the base is not lost when cleaning. Open
the ball valve before starting the pump.
Cleaning Nozzles
While the line strainer usually keeps the system clean,
it is possible for foreign matter to clog the trigger gun or
“Boom Buster” nozzle.
Turn the tractor o before cleaning any nozzles. Wear
chemically resistant rubber gloves.
To clean the trigger gun nozzle, engage the trigger gun to
relieve any pressure. Remove the cap at the end of the
barrel to access the tip. The tip should be cleaned with a
brush such as a TeeJet tip cleaning brush. Do not use a
pocket knife, wire or screwdriver to clear the nozzle. The tip
could be damaged, resulting in an improper spray pattern.
Figure C1
Cleaning Line Strainer
Chemically resistant rubber gloves must be worn
when cleaning the line strainer. Failure to do so
could result in chemical exposure
causing serious injury.
In order to clean the “Boom Buster” nozzles, remove the
nozzle from the stand. Use compressed air to blow debris
from the nozzle. Do not use pocket knives, wire or screw-
drivers.
End of Day Procedure
Some corrosive chemicals require the pump to be ushed
with clean water to prevent pump damage. Add 5-10 gallons
of clean water to an empty spray tank. Turn the pump on
and apply this ush solution to a safe area.
Check the sprayer for any leaks or damaged parts. Repair
or replace as necessary.
Operation during cold weather may require protecting
the sprayer from freeze damage. See the next section for
instructions.
End of Season Procedure
Thoroughly ush the complete system with clean water.
Flush the trigger gun as well as the “Boom Buster” nozzles.
Dispose of the ush solution by spraying a safe area. Check
the chemical container label for any special instructions.
To protect the sprayer from freezing, one of two procedures
should be followed: draining the system or ushing with
anti-freeze solution.
Draining the sprayer
With the spray tank empty, remove the strainer bowl to
drain water from the suction side of the pump. Some styles
of pumps are equipped with a drain plug. Remove this
plug to allow the pump to drain. If the sprayer is equipped
with a roller pump, operate the pump for 3-5 seconds to
purge any water from the pump. Lay the trigger hose out
at, open the control valve, lock the trigger gun open and
allow the water to drain from the gun. Open other lines to
allow any water to drain.
Flushing with anti-freeze
Add a few gallons of anti-freeze solution (such as RV
anti-freeze) to the spray tank. Start the pump and move
the selector valve to ush both the trigger gun and “Boom
Buster” nozzles. This procedure is the most complete way
to protect the sprayer from freezing.
Cast iron roller pumps need the further protection of 30 wt.
motor oil for lubrication. Add a small amount of oil to the
suction side of the pump. Turn the pump several revolutions
to apply a protective oil lm inside the pump housing.
