Product Overview
The DocuColor 240 / 250 is a single-pass, color laser printer-copier product made for color
professionals. It offers impeccable image quality, fast speed and incredible value.
And it’s versatile. Xerox offers a selection of input devices, advanced finishers, high
performance controllers and more. So, whether you’re a commercial printer,apay-for-printer
or you run the centralized reproduction department, you can tailor the DocuColor 240 / 250
printer-copier to meet your specific needs.
Performance
The DocuColor 250 printer-copier produces up to an outstanding 50 color pages per minute
and up to 65 black-and-white pages per minute. Add to that a blazing first-print-out time as
fast as 7.8 seconds in color and as fast as 4.3 seconds in black-and-white.
The DocuColor 240 printer-copier produces up 40 pages per minute in color and up to 55
pages per minute in black-and-white. Like the DocuColor 250, it has a first-print-out time
as fast as 7.8 seconds in color and as fast as 4.3 seconds in black-and-white.
Image Quality
The DocuColor 240 / 250 printer-copier provides 2400 x 2400 dpi for terrific print and copy
output. You can also take advantage of Enhanced Gloss mode for output that stands out from the
crowd.
Plus, this device gives you all the color tools you need to get the color you expect. High qual-
ity calibration gives you sharp results, day in, day out. And profiling options enable you to
emulate different output devices through the proofing process.
Scalability
There are so many options with the DocuColor 240 / 250 – from advanced finishing
options to professional color tools and security features. Busy environments can also add a
high-capacity feeder for fewer interruptions.

Consider color print speed
Color is where it counts. It has to be as fast as it is precise. So, it’s very important to consider color print
speed. This ensures the fast turnarounds you need for tight deadlines. Also consider the first-page-out
time — key for proofing or quantity-of-one environments.
Think about processor speed
Consider the time it takes from clicking “print” to the final delivery of the color document to the output
tray. The device has to be able to process large photographic images with ease. Test documents with
complex images to see how fast they’re processed and printed.
Measure overall performance
Send a mix of color and black-and-white documents of varying types and lengths to the printer. See how
the printer performs. It should be a relatively fast and seamless process. And you’ll really be able to see the
overall performance including: network transmission time, first-page-out time and multi-copy engine speed.

EVALUATE PERFORMANCE AND PRINT SPEED
Ever think your printer could print as fast in color as it does in black-and-white? The DocuColor 250 is
not that far off. It prints in color up to an incredibly fast 50 ppm. That’s really close to its black-and-white
print speed, which is up to 65 ppm. The DocuColor 240 offers fast print speeds as well, with 40 ppm
in color and 55 ppm in black-and-white. You’ll also enjoy a first-page-out time as fast as 7.8 seconds.
The DocuColor 240 / 250 comes with a robust 2.8 GHz Intel®Celeron®processor and EFI®bustled
controller. This ensures fast processing and printing of multiple full-color images. 512MB of memory is
dedicating to printing. This can be upgraded to a full 1 GB of memory, giving the device plenty of
processing power.
No matter how big or complex the mix of print jobs, the DocuColor 240 / 250 can handle it. With fast
print speeds and first-page-out times, a fast network connection and speedy image processing, this
device makes work, work for you. Plus, it has five standard trays and a 250-sheet DADF,so you can
get the big jobs done without having to reload paper.

Think about consumables
Never let consumables slow you down. For example, toner. No one wants to run out of it in the middle
of a job. That’s why you should consider a printer that lets you change toner while you’re printing.
This keeps your productivity at its highest. No more missed deadlines.
Toner capacity is important too. With a fast printer-copier, you do not want to continually have to
replace empty toner cartridges.
EVALUATE PERFORMANCE AND PRINT SPEED, cont.
The DocuColor 240 / 250 printer-copier was designed so that you can load toner while the machine is still
copying or printing. You don’t need to wait for the machine to stop and declare a “toner low” message.
With two black toner cartridges, your jobs keep running with only the occasional request for toner.
Plus, all Xerox consumables, or SMart KitTM replaceable units, are easy to load. Anyone can do it with
no problem whatsoever.

Look for precision resolution
Do images look sharp and crisp? Are they absolutely clear with defined edges? Your printout should
meet the expectations of professional color experts. Make sure you examine a print sample to ensure it
meets the highest quality standards.
Ensure faithful color reproduction
Look for uniformity and consistency in large areas of solid fill. Check for smooth transitions where edges meet.
Check that the image quality and color remain consistent page after page, particularly after 100 or 200 prints of
the same image. Does the printer perform periodic automatic calibration to maintain print-to-print consistency?
EVALUATE IMAGE QUALITY
With 2400 x 2400 dpi for both copy and print you can be sure you’re getting incredible resolution for
outstanding output. It’s excellent for printing photographs and fine lines. And when you really want images
to pop, you can choose the Enhanced Gloss Mode for great results.
Xerox is the leading innovator in toner and photoreceptor technology. From its pioneering work with carbon-
based toner in the 1950s – creating the copier marketplace – to the latest breakthrough, Emulsion Aggregate
(EA) toner,Xerox continues to pave the way.
The DocuColor 240 / 250 utilizes EA toner, which is chemically grown, rather than
ground, resulting in very small, consistent particles. This brings you fine color
detail and smooth transitions. Plus the toner cartridges (also called SMart KitTM
replaceable units) have developer material, or carrier, included. This allows the
constant addition of fresh developer material for consistent color quality – copy
after copy, print after print.
Automatic density control also assures consistent color from the first print to
the one-hundredth and the one-thousandth.
You can even set color calibration for different types of media. For example, you
might want to bring out true skin tones on a media that has a bright white finish.
With this feature you can get realistic colors on almost any type of media.

Check for color matching capabilities
In color critical environments, it’s vital that the color you expect is the color you get. Make sure your
device comes with advanced color management and profiling options that enable you to emulate different
output devices and control color output. This way you can be sure your printouts come out just how you
imagined, at every stage in the process.
Include a variety of elements in your test pages
Try color graphics, photo images, adjacent primary colors, large areas of solid color, color blends and
gradients and text in various typefaces, sizes and colors.

Xerox gives you advanced color management tools and profiling options. You can create your own profiles
that allow you to proof your documents to other engines, such as a printing press, web pages, a copier
or a digital press. This way you can optimize the color output (e.g. saturated, cooler, warmer) at every
step and eliminate surprises in the production phase.
With the addition of the Splash RPX-i workflow software you can get the professional color manage-
ment tools (e.g., ColorTuner, Color Spot Editor and CMYK Color Profiles) to manage the most demand-
ing color matching job. The Splash legacy is one that benefits the color printing professional. Splash
workflow software takes the color image quality of the DocuColor 240/250 to new levels.
When your document includes mixed elements such as graphics, text and photos, Xerox automatically
color corrects each graphic element on the page. This ensures you get the sharpest text, brightest
colors and the life-like images contained in your original file.

Use different kinds of media
With some color printers, color may change depending on the media you use. The quality may lessen
with different paper textures, like cover stock or transparencies. And in creative environments, the last
thing you want to do is reject an idea because you can’t execute it properly. So test out different kinds
of media to ensure consistently terrific color output.
Check source file compatibility
Can the printer handle all the versions of PCL®or Adobe®PostScript®that the software might produce?
Some popular graphic applications depend on true PostScript compatibility for the best color quality
and most accurate proofing capability.

Think about finishing options
Sometimes the little things can make a big impression. Such as a presentation that’s neatly collated,
stacked and professionally stapled. That’s just one reason you should consider finishing options in
your office game plan. They can make documents look great, and save you time and effort by doing
finishing tasks for you…such as collating, stapling and even hole punching.
Consider controller options
Does your controller have ample color management tools? Does it help your workflow, rather than
complicate it? These are things you should think about. Also, take a look at the RIP speed and
determine if it processes information quickly enough. Do you have the option to upgrade if you need it?
Check out security features
You need to protect your and your customer’s sensitive information. Determine if the system you’re
considering has options such as controlled access to files.
EVALUATE SCALABILITY
With the DocuColor 240 / 250, you have two finisher options – the Advanced or Professional.
The Advanced Finisher offers 50-sheet multi-position stapling and hole punching, plus stacking
of up to 3000 sheets. The Professional Finisher provides even more functionality with saddle-
stitched booklet making, V-fold brochure assembly, 50-sheet multi-position stapling and
hole punching. The Professional Finisher can also handle up to 1,500 stacked sheets.

workflow software, color professional users can perform those demanding color matching tasks with ease.
