1.2 About This Manual
1.2.1 General Notes
This manual is the field service reference for troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, and calibration of
the ZEISS EXTARO 300. The manual is intended for use by field service engineers who have
completed specific service training on the ZEISS EXTARO 300.
This service manual describes the full scope of activities that can be performed on site by service staff
who have completed appropriate training. More extensive activities require that the system be
returned to ZEISS for factory repair.
The procedures described in this manual assume that the reader is familiar with the operation of the
system. A user manual with complete operating instructions is contained in the delivery package of
every system. Information presented in the user manual is not repeated in this service manual.
Update revisions to this service manual will be issued as required.

The following conventions apply in this manual:
Unless otherwise specified, front and back of the system are as viewed from the front (patient
side) of the system.
Unless otherwise specified, all tool dimensions for screws and nuts are metric values.

Service bulletins are a vital element of service support. Bulletins are used to quickly convey technical
information on a variety of field service topics, including:

1.4 Service Strategy
The service strategy for the ZEISS EXTARO 300 stipulates that only a limited scope of work may be
performed in field service. This scope is appropriately marked in this service manual and is dealt with
in detail during the service training for this product.
Spare parts and procedures marked Factory repair only must be handled exclusively by the factory
repair department of ZEISS or by appropriately equipped workshops authorized by ZEISS.

3.2 General information
Repair and maintenance work must only be performed by authorized service staff.
Ensure that the stand is always switched off during repair or maintenance work.
The relevant ESD protection measures must be observed when working on electrical components.
Fasten cable ties and additional components after dismantling.

3.3.1 Removing OPMI from Yoke
1) Unscrew the cover (1) and remove it.

2) Remove the screw (2) M6x20 ISO 14579
-A2-70 with T30 Torx screw driver.
3) Remove the OPMI body from the Yoke.

1) Remove the two screws (1) M3x8
ISO 14579 -A2-70.
2) Remove the screw (2) M3x12 ISO 10642
-A2-70 with the manual filter driver.

3.3.3 Removing the illumination module
Remove the rear OPMI cover with cable cover (see Section 3.3.2).
1) Unplug the light guide from the socket (1).

2) Remove the four screws (2) M3x10
ISO 14580 –A2-70 from the bottom.
Caution
Make sure varioscope is not falling down.

3) Take out the varioscope together with the
illumination module.

4) Undo the two screws (3) M2.5x6 ISO 14579 -
A2-70 and remove the cable bracket.

5) Remove the four screws (4) M3x8
(the other two screws are at the other side).

6) Take out the illumination module.
