5.1 Removing, installing and adjusting the OPMI® pico illumination
module
Removal:
1) Disconnect the light guide and (if necessary) the
system cable (video cable) from the OPMI®
microscope.
2) Remove four screws (1) and cover (2).

3) Unscrew four screws (3) and remove OPMI®
pico illumination module (4).
Installation:
1) Insert OPMI® pico illumination module (4) and
mount it by tightening four screws (3) only
slightly.

5.2 Exchanging a filter
1) Swing out the filter to be exchanged (5) by
turning filter selection ring (6).
2) Remove filter (5) from the mount and insert the
new filter.
Note
Make sure that the filter is absolutely clean:
Any contaminations present on the filter
are imaged in the illuminated field.
3) Proceed in the reverse order for assembly.
Subsequent adjustment is required.

Adjustment:
1) Switch the magnification changer to its free-
passage position (position 1).
2) Align OPMI® with the test object (alignment
template enclosed) and focus the microscope
on it.
3) Move and tilt the illumination module in such a
way that the illuminated field is radially
centered to within ± 1 mm relative to the outer
reference circle.

4) Tighten screws (1) and secure them in position
by applying blue threadlocker to their heads.
5) If the edge of the illumination field is out of
focus, loosen the set screw (2) and shift the
light guide sleeve (3) to obtain correct focus.
6) Tighten set screw (2)
7) Re-attach cover (2 Fig. 1).
Note
In case of a not adjustable offset in vertical
direction, shims must be inserted between
illumination unit and OPMI body at the two
upper or lower screws (1) depend on the
offset direction (see drawing OPMI® pico
Basis –1095-102).

Note
There are two versions of illumination units existing.
One version (no. 1053-917) without UV safety filter for OPMI® pico and the
other version (no. 1153-460) with UV safety filter for OPMI® pico i (ophthalmic version).
For easy differentiation between the two versions, the front surface of the light guide sleeve
is anodized black for the unit without safety filter and
anodized to natural aluminium for the unit with safety filter
When installing an illumination unit in an OPMI® pico i, make sure, to use the version
1153-460 (with safety filter) as otherwise damage to the patient`s eye is possible.

5.3 Removing, installing and adjusting the magnification changer
Removal:
1) Disconnect the light guide and (if necessary) the
system cable (video cable) from the OPMI®
microscope.
2) Remove four screws (1) and cover (2).

3) Remove the camera module as described in
point 5.3.
4) Loosen setscrews (3) and remove knobs (4).
Mark the knobs to ensure correct assignment to
the right/left side.
5) Unscrew shafts (5) (to achieve this, insert two
pins in their boreholes and loosen the shafts by
turning them counterclockwise).
6) If one of the shafts remains fixed, unscrew the
objective lens and switch the magnification
changer to its free-passage position. Secure the
changer in this position using a piece of round
wood or a similar device and remove the shaft.

7) Remove changer drum (6).
8) If necessary, remove screw (7) and catch
spring (8).
Note
Do not remove the optics of the changer.
Installation:
1) If necessary, re-install catch spring (8) and
screw (7).
2) Lubricate the changer's running surface for the
catch spring with GF 100 grease.
3) Lubricate the front surfaces of the changer with
GF 50 grease.
4) Re-install the changer drum in laterally correct
position.

5) Lubricate the running surfaces of shafts (9) with GF 50 grease. Screw them back in and tighten
them (2 ± 0.5 Nm).
6) Mount knobs (10) on their respective sides, making sure that their scales are correctly set.

Adjustment:
Note
The following description assumes that the optics in the changer has been correctly
adjusted, i.e. no image shift or binocular error occurs when the changer is switched from
one magnification step to another as well as no focus differences.
Tolerances:
Binocular alignment:
Convergent deviation ≤ 15´
Divergent deviation ≤ 5´
Hight deviation ≤ ± 5´
Focus alignment:
Difference of focal planes left / right
≤ ± 0.25 mm at γ= 2.5
≤ ± 2 mm at γ= 0.4

7) If provided, insert an eyepiece including a reticle
in the port on the right-hand side of the tube.
8) Switch the magnification changer to the free-
passage position (position 1) and align and
focus OPMI® on the test object (alignment
template enclosed).
9) Switch to magnification step 2.5.
10) If an image jump occurs in the vertical direction
of ≥ ± 0.5 mm, loosen screw (1) and move
catch spring (2) using a scriber or a similar
device in such a way that no image jump
≥ ± 0.5 mm occurs any longer when the
changer is switched from position 1 to
position 2.5.
11) Tighten screw (1) and secure it in position by
applying blue threadlocker to its head.
12) Re-attach cover (2 Fig. 1).
