
4.4. Set-up in a filter chamber (refer to Fig. 1)
The Turboflotor Blue 500 is hooked with the holdin unit to the rear wall of the filter chamber. The
drain utter (5a) of the skimmer should be placed just above the water level with the lower ed e.
4.5. Starting/Operation
The system can be started when the Turboflotor is correctly installed. After switchin on the pump,
air is automatically drawn into the skimmer. To minimize the noise level, connect the air inlet tube
with the blue connectin piece of the silencer supplied. Fix the silencer with the holdin unit (15)
on the back of the filter separatin wall. Please wipe the plate with a dry cloth, take off the foil of
the stickin side of the holdin unit and press it firmly.
The mesh wheel breaks the air into small bubbles. This method eliminates the reater proportion of
noise. After the initial start, some hours may pass before the first foam is pushed into the
collection cup. This is due to a reaction between the surface of acrylic lass and aquarium water.
Equilibrium of electrical char es takes place. After a maximum of 24 hours, the foam should be
pushed evenly into the collection cup. The quantity of liquid and or anic substances is dependent
on the pollution of the aquarium.
4.6. Problems
Adjustment
The skimmer is adjusted usin the water level controller so that it works to its optimum.
The water
level in the skimmer must be adapted to foam production. If the foam is too wet, the water level
controller (4) has to be further opened and thus the water level lowered. If the foam is too dry, the
process has to be done vice versa.
Air bubbles in the outflow
If the skimmer is added to an existin aquarium, there may be a hi h concentration of or anic
substances already dissolved in the water. This results in very tiny bubbles in the skimmer. These
tiny bubbles remove the or anic substances effectively, however, it may happen that some of
these bubbles are drawn back into the aquarium. After a few days, the concentration of or anic
substances will have decreased to such low levels that this effect will have one and the water flow
is free of air bubbles.
In new set-up aquaria, a reasonable adjustment is very rarely. The skimmer either
„boils“ over or „bubbles“ without foaming power. This is normal and will be settled as
soon as the basin is filled.
Some types of frozen food may have the same effects. It is best to thaw and wash the food prior to
feedin it to the fish. The air bubbles will stop after a short period by themselves.
If the air nozzle or air hose are blocked with salt or lime deposits, less air and more water is
sucked in. In this case, clean both completely.
Wet foam
With freshly prepared sea water or after usin water conditioners or at extremely hi h loadin ,
excessive wet foam may be produced. This wet foam is forced into the cup, requirin more
frequent emptyin than normal. After approx. one day, the aquarium load should be normal and
the skimmer will produce correct foam. Lower the water level in the skimmer by turnin the water
level controller (4). If necessary, clean the air injection nozzle, hose connection and hose of
deposits.
Dry foam / not enough bubbles
Not enou h or too dry foam could be an indication that the mesh wheel or air injection nozzle are
dirty. A thorou h cleanin is recommended. Remove the pressure nozzle from the pump. If it’s not
a problem of cleanin , increase water level inside the skimmer by the water level controller (4).
