► Fit the outdoor sensor at a maximum
distance of 30 m from the temperature
station. Ensure that there are no disruptive
obstacles between the outdoor sensor
and the temperature station. Otherwise,
transmission can be disrupted.
♦ Both the temperature station and the
outdoor sensor can be suspended from
a screw using the hangers 7and t.

♦ Open the battery compartmentqon
the rear of the appliance by removing the
battery compartment covere.
♦ Insert two type AA batteries into the appli-

♦ Close the battery compartmentqagain.
Once the power supply has been established,
the display will light up and go through a brief
check of the display elements.
The temperature station will now attempt to
connect to the outdoor sensor. The reception
symbol flashes on the outdoor temperature
panel 4.

AFT 77 A1 GB│IE│NI │ 11 ■
NOTE
If no outdoor temperature is displayed within
around 3minutes, the temperature station
will stop the reception search. The reception
symbol goes out and is displayed on
the outdoor temperature panel4.
It is possible that no signal can be received
due to the surrounding buildings or because
the distance is too great.
If you are unable to establish an automatic
connection to the outdoor sensor, you can
do this manually:
♦ Press and hold the button0until
the reception signal flashes on the
outdoor temperature panel4.
♦ Press the TX buttonzto manually initi-
ate the outdoor sensor radio signal.
The temperature station automatically starts to
receive the MSF signal after 3minutes, irre-
spective of whether the outdoor sensor recep-
tion search has been successful or not.
The reception symbol flashes on the time
panel1. If the reception symbol ( ) does not
flash completely on the display, the reception
of the MSF signal is too weak and the time
cannot be synchronised. Try and find a set-up
location in which the reception symbol ( )
flashes completely on the display.

AFT 77 A1
■ 12 │ GB│IE│NI
Once the appliance successfully receives the
MSF signal, the time panel 1displays the
current coordinated world time (UTC) and the
date and weekday are displayed on the date
panel 3. In addition, the reception symbol
is permanently displayed on the time panel1.
If the appliance is unable to synchronise with
the MSF signal, you can also set the time
manually (see section Basic settings) or you
can attempt the reception again.
♦ Press and hold the button9for about
3 seconds to attempt the reception search
again. The reception symbol flashes on
the time panel1.
The MSF signal
The MSF radio signal is a time transmission
which accurately and reliably transmits the
official time in the United Kingdom. This is
done on the basis of the UTC time scale of the
NPL atomic clock. The signal can be received
anywhere in the UK and beyond its borders.
It operates at a frequency of 60 kHz and
transmits a time and date signal that can be
received and decoded by the temperature
station. The reception of the MSF signal usually
takes about 3 to 5 minutes. If the reception of
the MSF signal fails, the temperature station
will abort the reception attempt after approx.
7 minutes.

AFT 77 A1 GB│IE│NI │ 13 ■
Reception can be considerably restricted by
obstacles (e.g. concrete walls) or interference
sources (e.g. other electronic appliances). If
necessary, you should change the location of
the temperature station (e.g. put it by a win-
dow) if reception problems continue.
Displays in basic mode
Once the temperature station has received the
outdoor sensor signal and the MSF signal, it is
in basic mode. In basic mode, the temperature
station shows the following information on its
display:
The time panel1
The time is shown in
12-hour format by
default. In 12-hour
format, the abbrevia-
tion (Latin: “post
meridiem” = afternoon) is shown in front of the
time between 12 noon and 11.59 at night.
The abbreviation (Latin: “ante meridiem” =
morning) is shown in front of the time between
12 midnight and 11.59 in the morning. During
the summer period, (daylight saving time)
is displayed. This display is only shown if the
MSF signal is being received.

AFT 77 A1
■ 14 │ GB│IE│NI
The date panel3
The current date appears under
the display and the current
month under the display . The
abbreviation for the current
weekday is shown to the right of
the display . The language for this abbrevi-
ation is preset to English but can be changed if
required.
Please refer to the section Basic set-
tings for details.
The indoor temperature panel2
The indoor temperature
measured by the temperature
station is displayed to one
decimal place. The tempera-
ture unit (degrees Celsius)
is shown top right. The temperature unit can
also be changed to (degrees Fahrenheit).
If the temperature drops below the measuring
range of 0°C to 50°C (or 32°F to 122°F)
is shown; is shown if the temperature rises
above this range.
The temperature trend is shown to the left of
the temperature display. The following displays
are possible:
= the temperature is rising.
= the temperature is constant.
= the temperature is dropping.

AFT 77 A1 GB│IE│NI │ 15 ■
If the battery symbol appears to the left of
the temperature display, you should replace
the batteries of the temperature station as
soon as possible (see section Operating the
temperature station).
The outdoor temperature panel4
The outdoor temperature is
displayed to one decimal
place. The temperature unit
(degrees Celsius) is shown
top right. The temperature
unit can also be changed to (degrees Fahr-
enheit).
If the temperature drops below the measuring
range of -20°C to 60°C (or -4°F to 140°F)
is shown; is shown if the temperature
rises above this range.
The temperature trend is shown to the left of
the temperature display. The following displays
are possible:
= the temperature is rising.
= the temperature is constant.
= the temperature is dropping.
If the battery symbol appears to the left of
the temperature display, you should replace
the batteries of the outdoor sensor as soon as
possible (see section Operating the outdoor
sensor).
