For safe installation of this equipment, read and understand all dangers, warnings, and cautionary information. Save this safety information
in a readily accessible location. Look for the following warnings throughout the manual:
Red and White “DANGER” means: If you do not follow the instructions, severe injury or death will occur.

You must have training in the operation and programming of this dispenser before using it. READ THE OPERATORS
MANUAL.
Make sure this equipment is correctly grounded. Failure to do will cause injury or damage equipment or improper
operation. Improper grounding voids the warranty.
Make sure that all labels, decals, warning, cautions, and instructions are fastened to the equipment. Order
replacement labels from Bennett.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Read this manual carefully and read all tags/labels attached to the Junction Box Assembly before starting any maintenance and/or
service. A J-Box that is not properly maintained will not perform properly and will void the Bennett Limited Warranty.
Before installation, operation, maintenance and/or service ensure that protection against lighting strikes are in accordance with the
American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice RP 2003, Protection Against Ignitions Arising out of Static, Lightening, and Stray
Currents.
Service of the Bennett products and all accessories must be performed by a technician who is trained in accordance to all codes,
standards, and regulations.
HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS
For safe operation, ensure that the dispenser is in a classified area as detailed below per NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids
Code and NFPA 70, National Electric Code. For further information on the classification of locations for Fuel Dispensers, see NFPA 30,
Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code.
The DEF 100/200 Dispenser is not rated to be used in a classified location. Please verify with your local AHJ to determine that the location
if installation is not classified as a hazardousl location.

SECTION 2: PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
THE DEF 100/200 Dispenser is a simple DEF solution for non- heated solutions. It incorporates a basic design capable of withstanding the
elements. It has an external hose, so it can be installed in any climate not requiring any type of heating. It uses the basic oval gear meter
used in other Bennett applications, with a ¾” two stage valve and interfaced with the Bennett 719 Electronics.

DETERMINING THE MODEL NUMBER
Determine the model number of the dispenser from the serial label located in the dispenser. Utilizing the chart below, determine the
features of the dispenser to be installed. Understanding the features of the dispenser to be installed will be helpful understanding the
proper installation of the dispenser.

SECTION 3: PUMP OPERATION
Bennett Pump Dispensers are to be installed by trained technicians. All technicians must be aware of ALL safety instructions. If you are
not a Bennett trained technician, please contact Bennett Technical Support at 1-800-423-6638 for training information.
FEATURES AND CAPABILITIES
All of the dispensers shown in this book can be operated in the “Stand Alone” mode (no control console) or use
the Bennett Current Loop fuel protocol (interfaced to a 3rd party device directly or via the Bennett model 515
Pump Controller). They can also use the RS485 direct interface to Fleet Management Systems supporting the
Bennett RS485 protocol. Dual Pulse Output is also available to interface to a Fleet Management System where
only volume data is required.
FEATURES AND CAPABILITIES
1. A self-monitoring pulser will prevent product flow in the event of a malfunction.
2. Diagnostic software system built-in to aid in troubleshooting.
3. A Manager’s access code prevents unauthorized changes of the price per volume settings.
4. Equipped with 1” high LCD displays which are lighted from the side with high efficiency, low power LEDs for
easier viewing.
5. An allocation limit can be set from 1 to 999 gallons or 9,999 liters at the dispenser.

7. A +3.6 volt DC nickel-cadmium battery is used to store the totals and programmed information in the
EEPROM memory during power failures. The EEPROM has a life of more than 200 years.
8. Auxilliary battery that allows recall information on the last sale information in the event of power loss.
9. All units have conformal coated electronic boards to help protect them from moisture or foreign material
damage. All major electronic board assemblies are environmentally tested and temperature cycled.
10. The dispenser meets or exceeds FCC Emission Standards.
11. Dispenser programming is performed from the manager’s keypad or the Local Preset keypad. The manager
keypad is located inside the electronics head.

The Manager Keypad.
The manager keypad allows the dispenser to be programmed. When the manager keypad is plugged into the J11
connector on the CPU board, the “+/-” and “Enter” button are pressed simultaneously for 3 seconds, the dispenser
enters the attendant mode (sometimes referred to as “manager’s mode”). The attendant mode allows access to
the dispenser totals, pricing information and programming information. The manager keypad is shipped with each
dispenser and is located in the electronics head and is normally disconnected from the system during normal use.
See Figure 1.

The Error Messages. See Figure 2.
When an error message appears, there is a fault condition in the dispenser. Use the dispenser diagnostics to
determine the problem. Please refer to the “Diagnostics” section of this manual for additional information on
diagnostics.
NOTE: When an error message appears, the error message can be reset by cycling the pump handle on
and off.

The Power Failure Message. See Figure 3.
The Power Fail message occurs when the power has been interrupted or turned off to the dispenser. If the power
is turned off and the AC OFF message does not appear, the charge is low on the 12-volt battery. Allow 24 hours
to charge the battery after powering up the dispenser for the first time.

The Last Sale Recall Switch. See Figure 4.
During a power outage, the last sale can be recalled and viewed. Using a magnet reference below where to
place the magnet. Press the kill switch to blank the screen, or wait 30 seconds, it will go out. The display will go
blank until normal power returns.

The Flow Sensor. See Figure 5.
The flow sensor is located in the lower hydraulics product delivery line in the self-contained units. It is designed to detect and
stop product flow via the suction pump in the event of an DEF tote or tank being emptied of product.

The Service Tote Indicator Light. See Figure 6
The service tote indicator light is located on the lower right corner of the electronics door. It is designed to alert personnel when
the flow sensor is tripped and the tote or dispenser are in need of service. The indicator light will turn off when the problem is

resolved and the dispenser is returned to normal operation.

The Flow Sensor Override Switch. See Figure 7.
The flow sensor override switch is located inside the electronics enclosure on the upper left side. It is designed to override the
flow sensor while purging air from the lines with new product. Press and hold the flow sensor override switch and authorize the
dispenser. Dispense approximately 1 gallon of AUS-32 (DEF) and release the flow sensor switch. Return the dispenser to
normal operation.

Note: If the service tote indicator light is illuminated after this process, the previous step may need to be repeated.
The Electro-Mechanical Totalizer. See Figure 8.
The electro-mechanical totalizer is located below the volume display. This is a “volume” totalizer (not money).
The total is cumulative and reads in whole unit (gallon or liter) increments.

The Pump Handle. See Figure 9.
(Lift Lever Operation)
The pump handle is located on the side of the dispenser. To operate the dispenser, remove the nozzle from the
holder and lift the pump handle up for the ON position. Push the pump handle down for the OFF position. These
are referred to as “Lift to Start” nozzle boots.

Local Preset. See Figure 10
The Local Preset option allows the customer or operator the ability to select volume or currency and preset the amount of fuel to be
purchased. When the preselected amount (volume or currency) is reached, the dispenser will automatically stop. A fill up feature is also
present.
This keypad is also used to access dispenser totals, pricing information, diagnostic information, and programming. Note: The Mode,
Enter, +/- (Plus Minus) buttons are not shown

DISPENSING PRODUCT
The explanation given in the listed menus are intended for use by the operator, manager, or service
technician.
To dispense product, follow this procedure:
1. Remove the nozzle from the holder.
2. Lift the handle to the ON position. Note: Verify the pump is authorized by the console or is in stand alone mode.
3. Wait for the displays to go to all 8’s and then all 0’s. This is referred to as the “reset”.
4. Squeeze the nozzle trigger to dispense product into the vehicle or an approved container.
5. Release the nozzle trigger when the desired amount of product has been dispensed.
6. Lower the handle to the OFF position.
7. Return the nozzle to the holder.
Note: If the dispenser stops during the delivery of product, check the display for an error code. If one is present,
cycle the lever on and off to clear the error. If the error persists, contact your local service provider.
How to Read the Electro-mechanical Totalizer
The dispenser is equipped with an Electro-mechanical totalizer for each hose which records the volume
dispensed for each sale. The volume recorded is an accumulative total that cannot be reset. The electro-
mechanical totalizer is located at the bottom right on the main display. The total is cumulative and reads in whole
unit (gallon or liter) increments.
Note: Because of rounding methods used and the nature of electronic totals versus an analog device such as an
electro-mechanical totalizer, electronic totals and electro-mechanical totals will rarely match exactly.
Displaying Electronic Totals - To display electronic totals on the BlueFueler Series retail dispenser, access
menu code 1 or view the totals through the audit trail.
Method 1 -Using a magnet, place the magnet on the left edge below the (Money / Volume) display window.
(Magnet shipped with each dispenser Bennett p/n 114745). The magnet activates the electronic totals display
and the Audit Trail. The magnet activates a switch on the CPU and the money and volume totals will be displayed
along with an audit report for 30 seconds. The magnet can be removed after the switch is activated.
Method 2 - Accessing menu code 1 - See the next page for details.
Note: The nozzle lever should be in the “Off” position while accessing electronic totals.
How to read the Electronic Totals - When a magnet is used to display the electronic totals, the first total
displayed will be “Money” totals. The top row shows the 6 most significant digits and the lower row shows the
least most significant digits. This example shows a total of $666,666,667.87.
After displaying the money total for 10 seconds, the display shows “Volume” totals . This example shows
66,666,667.872 gallons. After 10 seconds, the display returns to normal.

VIEWING THE AUDIT TRAIL
The “Audit Trail” is a function that displays all of the following information:
1 - Electronic Money Totals
2 - Electronic Volume Totals
3 - Number of Electronic Calibration Changes
4 - The number of “Unit” changes
The Audit Trail is required by certain local regulations to be displayed when activated. A Magnet is shipped with
each dispenser (Bennett p/n 114745). To activate the Audit Trail follow the same procedure as used for
accessing the electronic totals.
Step 1 - Use the magnet that comes with the dispenser and place it at the bottom left hand corner of the
Money/Volume window of the CPU/Display board. This will activate a switch on the electronic board enabling the
“Audit Trail”.
Step 2 - Remove the magnet when the switch is activated. The first information that shows up is the electronic
totals (as previously covered). It will then automatically display the Audit Trail.
Step 3 - The information in the Audit trail displays the number of electronic calibration changes since the
dispenser left the factory and the number of “Unit” changes (how many times the unit was changed from “gallons”
to “liters” etc. ).
The Audit Trail automatically terminates after approximately 30 seconds and returns to the normal display.
VIEWING THE LAST SALE DURING A POWER FAILURE
How to Read the Last Sale During a Power Failure
If an A.C. power failure occurs, the dispenser will display the last sale in progress at the time of the failure. This
display will alternate with the Power Fail Message: “AC OFF. This will continue for 30 seconds after the dispenser
has lost power, then can be recalled with the magnet. If power is returned, the display will go back to its normal
display.
NOTE: The battery will display data for 30 seconds, then is recallable.
Example : The customer is dispensing product and the site loses power. Let’s say the customer has pumped
$7.50 to this point. At this point the dispenser valve closes and the customer cannot continue fueling. The display
will continue to alternate between the recorded amount and the power fail message. After 30 seconds, if power
is still out, the display will blank until power is returned. It can be recalled at any point during the power failure.

NOTE: If the unit is being used with a console, the prices can be programmed from the console. No other
features can be programmed.

Connecting the Manager keypad for dispenser programming.
Programming is done from the manager keypad located inside the electronics compartment.
To enable the dispenser for programming:
1. Remove the keypad and cable from the plastic bag located on the inside of the electronic enclosure. Connect
the cable to the Manager Keypad.
2. Locate the keypad receptacle located on the top of the CPU board. The plug receptacle is labeled “J11” and
is located on the right side edge of the CPU if viewed with the electronics door open. . This is where the
Manager Keypad and cable will connect to the CPU to program that hose.
3. NOTE: If the pump is equipped with Local Preset, the preset keypad will be plugged in to this location and can
be used.
Note: Make sure the handle is “hung up”in the dispenser nozzle boot.
3. With the dispenser power on, plug the manager’s keypad and cable into the connector labeled J11 on the
CPU board.
4. With the Managers keypad properly connected, press and hold the “+/-” and “Enter” button simultaneously for
3 seconds until “Code 00” is displayed. Refer to the “Dispenser Programming Codes” section on the next
page for further programming instructions.
5. When the programming session is complete, press the “+/-” and “Enter” button simultaneously to exit
Manager Mode.
DISPENSER PROGRAMMING CODES
The dispenser has a variety of Menu Codes that are accessed by using the manager’s keypad. Menu Codes 0
and 1 are accessed by the attendant or manager to read diagnostic error codes or totals. The remaining Menu
Codes are accessed by first entering a security code in Menu Code 3. Without the correct security code, the
remaining Menu Codes are hidden. A description of each Menu Code is given below:

ACCESSING MANAGERS MODE: MENU CODE 3:
NOTE: Connect the Manager Keypad to the J11 connector on the CPU. Make sure that the handle is in the
off position and that the dispenser power is on. Press the “+/-” and “Enter” button simultaneously
and hold for approximately 3 seconds until “Code 00” appears on the display. . When programming
is complete, press the “+/-” and “Enter” button simultaneously to exit the Manager mode.
NOTE: When programming the dispenser is complete, disconnect the keypad and cable from the CPU and
leave the Manager Keypad and cable inside the head of the dispenser for the next time change is
required.
Access to Menu Codes 3 through 99 is gained by entering a four-digit access code. The software is set with an
access code at the factory of 2218. All dispensers covered in this manual are shipped with this code. Menu Code
3 must be used each time the Manager wishes to access or program Menu Codes 4 through 99. Menu code 3 does
not need to be accessed to retrieve electronic totals.
