For safe installation of this equipment, read and understand all dangers, warnings, and cautionary information. Save this safety
information in a readily accessible location. Look for the following warnings throughout the manual:
Red and White “DANGER” means: If you do not follow the instructions, severe injury or death will occur.
Orange and Black “WARNING” means: If you do not follow the instructions, severe injury or death can occur.
Yellow and Black “CAUTION” means: If you do not follow the instructions, damage can occur to the dispenser.
Blue and White “IMPORTANT” means: helpful tips and other recommendations on equipment installation, usage, and
maintenance should be observed.

DISCONNECT ALL POWER, RELIEVE PRESSURE TO THIS EQUIPMENT, AND ASSOCIATED COMPRESSOR DURING
INSTALLATION, SERVICE, OR ANY MAINTENANCE I.E., CHANGING FILTERS.

You must have training in the installation, service, or maintenance of this equipment (dispenser, pump, console, control
box, or submerged pump) before working on it. Maintenance repairs must be done by authorized personnel only.
Warranty work may only be performed by Bennett certified technicians.
To prevent electric shock, keep the electrical parts of the dispenser dry.
Electronic components are static sensitive. Use only proper static precautions (e.g. static straps) before working on the
equipment.
The emergency shut-off valve (also called the fire valve, shear valve, or impact valve) must be closed when service or
maintenance is performed on this equipment.
You must have training in the operation and programming of this dispenser before using it. READ THE OPERATORS
MANUAL.
Make sure this equipment is correctly grounded. Failure to do will cause injury or damage equipment or improper
operation. Improper grounding voids the warranty.
When anchoring the dispenser, always level the dispenser with shims before bolting to the island. DO NOT shim the
middle of base rails to bolt down the dispenser.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Read this manual carefully and read all tags/labels attached to the 3000 series dispenser or pump before starting any maintenance
and/or service. A dispenser or pump that is not properly maintained will not perform properly and will void the Bennett Limited
Warranty.
Before installation, operation, maintenance and/or service ensure that protection against lighting strikes are in accordance with the
American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice RP 2003, Protection Against Ignitions Arising out of Static, Lightening, and Stray
Currents.
HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS
Classified areas are used to describe the fire or explosion hazards present in a specific area. For safe operation, ensure that the dispenser
is in a classified area as detailed below per NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code and NFPA 70, National Electric Code. For
further information on the classification of locations for Fuel Dispensers, see NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code.

PUMP MOTOR CONTROL REQUIREMENTS
IMPORTANT: SELF-CONTAINED DISPENSER 1HP MOTORS ARE SET AT THE FACTORY FOR 115 V. 2-HP MOTORS (BIG FUELER
SUCTION MODELS) CAN ONLY BE USED AT 230V AND ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
The Submerged Pump Relay Control Signals are rated at 30 watts, 120VAC, or 240VAC maximum. This signal must be wired to an external
Submerged Pump Relay (with all coil control wires for this relay on the same AC phase) for controlling the submerged pump motors. Use
Red Jacket or FE Petrol Control Box or equivalent.

LOCKED OUT BEFORE DOING ANY REPAIRS OR MAINTENANCE TO THE DISPENSER.
CAUTION: THE INTRINSIC SAFETY GROUND WIRE MUST BE FIRMLY MOUNTED TO THE DISPENSER CHASSIS TO INSURE
INTRINSIC SAFETY!
Each dispenser uses one 120/240VAC, 50/60 Hz circuit for dispenser power. 110VAC or 230VAC single phase is routed from the main
service panel to the dispenser and connects directly to the 719 CPU or through the optional Junction Box. AC power is then routed
through a filter section of the 719 CPU to eliminate noise spikes and to change the AC voltage over to various DC voltages that are
distributed to several components used within the dispenser.
The DC voltages created are +24, +12, +5, and +3.3 volts DC.
+24 volts – Main Display, Valve Power, Satellite Board
+12 volts – Pump Motor Control, Communication Power, Electromechanical Totalizer (optional)
+5 volts – System Voltage for Circuit Logic
+3.3 volts – CPU Circuit Voltage
There are no test points or adjustments for these voltages. The only voltage that can be measured is the incoming voltage on TS1. The
incoming voltage range can be anywhere from 85-270 VAC.
DOOR KEY LOCKS
The dual door locks are located on the top edge of the upper electronic cabinet
door and the left edge of the lower door panel as shown in the figure to the
right. The upper door swings down on bottom hinges and the lower door swings
out on the right hand hinges. A universal key is shipped with each dispenser.
Refer to the Operation section for additional information.
The key locks for the electronic door are located on either outside top edge of
the door. The Key locks for the lower door of the 3000 Series are located on the
left side (top and bottom) of the lower door panel. A key is shipped with each
dispenser. The same key is used for all the locks.
To lock the upper door, insert the key in one of the locks and turn clockwise
until it stops. Repeat this step for the other lock. To lock the lower door, turn
the key clockwise until it stops in one of the locks. Repeat this step for the other
lock. To unlock either door, turn the key counterclockwise until it stops.
Note: The upper door swings down on bottom hinges and the lower door
swings out on right hand hinges.

THE PUMP HANDLE
The pump handles are located on the front or side of the dispenser or on the side of the dispenser. To operate the dispenser, remove the
nozzle from the holder and lift the pump handle up for the ON position. Push the pump handle down for the OFF position. These are
referred to as “Lift to Start” nozzle boots.
JUNCTION BOX (OPTIONAL)
The dispenser’s field wiring connections are located in an explosion proof junction box located in the lower hydraulics area of the
dispenser. Field wiring connections are terminated on the terminal strip and pulled into the electronic enclosure.

The following section provides a description of the controls and instrumentation used on a 3000 Series Spec 300 Dispenser.

POWER SWITCH
A power switch is located on the 719 CPU Board that is used to turn the dispenser on and off. When the switch is in the off position, main
power is removed from the electronic circuit board.
THE POWER FAILURE MESSAGE
The Power Fail message occurs whenever the power has been interrupted or turned off to the dispenser. If the power is turned off and
the AC OFF message does not appear, the charge is low on the 12-volt battery. Allow 24 hours to charge the battery after powering up
the dispenser for the first time.
EXTERNAL +12 VDC BATTERY
An external +12 VDC lead acid backup battery is used to recall data during power outage or when pump power is off. When the main
power is on the battery, the charging circuit provides +13.8 VDC to charge the battery. When the battery is “on” the battery supplies 12.6
VDC for the system. Note: The battery MUST BE connected before powering up the dispenser.
BATTERY KILL BUTTON
A push button is used to kill the battery backup if necessary. This button can be used to override the 30-second battery if primary power
is lost at the dispenser, or if incoming power drops below 74 volts AC. This button stays in the up position by a spring. To “kill” power to
the dispenser press down quickly and release. Once the switch is closed, and the display goes blank, release the switch.
MANAGER’S KEYPAD
The Manager’s Keypad allows the customer or operator the ability to access dispenser totals, pricing information, diagnostic information,
and programming. One Manager’s Keypad is shipped with each dispenser. It is located in the electronics head, and is normally
disconnected from the system during normal use. Refer to the operation section for a complete description of the keypad functions for
programming the dispenser and the service & troubleshooting section for complete instructions for using the keypad to read error codes.
ALPHA-NUMERIC KEYPAD (OPTIONAL)
The alpha numeric keypad option allows the customer or operator the ability to enter information

The Local Preset option allows the customer or operator the ability to select volume or currency and preset the amount of fuel to be
purchased. When the preselected amount (volume or currency) is reached, the dispenser will automatically stop. A fill up feature is also
present.
This keypad is also used to access dispenser totals, pricing information, diagnostic information, and programming. Note: The Mode,
Enter, +/- (Plus Minus) buttons are not shown on the overlay, but you will be able to feel them.

MAIN DISPLAYS
This section describes the main display used in the dispenser. Dispenser Models with the suffix 37XX uses the Commercial Display, 38XX
uses the Retail 1-Tier Display, and 39XX uses the Retail 2-Tier Display. DEF 300 / 400 units uses the Auxiliary Display.
RETAIL DISPLAY (1 TIER & 2 TIER)
Displays Currency (Total Sale), Volume (Gallons or Liters), PPV (Price per Volume), Totalizer information, and houses the Satellite ‘In Use’
light. The displays can be used to view sales and pricing information, programming modes, error codes, as well as certain prompting
messages.
COMMERCIAL DISPLAY (VOLUME ONLY)
The Commercial Display shows the volume only in gallons or liters. It also is used to view programming modes, error codes, as well as
certain prompting messages. Note: Use the down arrow to scroll to the next screen.
AUXILIARY PPV DISPLAY –DEF UNITS
The Auxiliary PPV Display is used to view the price per volume for DEF Units used with the 3000 series dispenser.

ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TOTALIZERS
Note: Because of rounding methods used and the nature of electronic totals versus an analog device (e.g. electro-mechanical
totalizer). Electronic totals and electro-mechanical totals will rarely match exactly.
The dispenser is equipped with an electro-mechanical totalizer for each hose that records the volume dispensed for each sale. The
volume recorded is an accumulative total that cannot be reset. The electro-mechanical totalizers are located below the product select
buttons on each side of the dispenser. The total is cumulative and reads in whole unit in gallon or liter increments.
RETAIL & COMMERCIAL DISPLAY REED SWITCHE S
The Retail Display uses reed switches to recall the last sale if there is a power outage and to recall the electronic totals. These switches
are normally opened. An access magnet can be held over the left or right side of the “TOTAL SALE” or “VOLUME ONLY” display for
approximately 2 seconds. The reed switch will close and the display will provide either the last sale (during power outages), electronic
totals, or audit trail information. Refer to the 719 Technical and Dispenser Programming Manual for additional information.
ELECTRONIC –OVERVIEW
The electronics used on the 3000 series dispenser are located in the upper cabinet and lower cabinet for hydraulic control. All units have
conformal-coated electronic boards to help protect them from moisture or foreign material damage. All major electronic board
assemblies are environmentally tested and temperature cycled. Refer to the sections below for board descriptions.
719 CPU BOARD
The 719 CPU Board is the heart of the system. It runs the software, has dispenser memory, communicates with Point of Sale via
personality modules, and sends display signals to the display boards. It also stores historical data for sales and diagnostics. Refer to the
719 Technical & Dispenser Programming Manual for more information.

419 LOWER I/O BOARD
The 419 Lower I/O Board is a low power circuit board that provides power, control, and/or temperature compensation to the hydraulics
of any Bennett electronic commercial and retail dispensers. Refer to the 419 Technical Manual for more information.
PERSONALITY BOARDS
A specific Personality Module is needed for the Current Loop Communication, Generic Current Loop Communication, RS-485
Communication, and Pulse Output for Fleet Management. The dispenser MUST have the correct module for the dispenser to
communicate properly. The following sections provides a description of each component of the personality module. Refer to the wiring
diagram included in the dispenser for wire, shunts, and field jumper wire connections.
BENNETT CURRENT LOOP & GENERIC CURRENT LOOP (P/N 121982)
Used with the Bennett 515 Box, TMX, Comdata, FIS-CAL, VeriFone Commander, Ruby, and Sapphire remote consoles. Bennett Current
Loop uses a 4-wire protocol. To be used with Gilbarco Passport, VeriFone Commander, Wayne Fusion, and Wayne Nucleus remote
consoles. Generic Current Loop uses a 2-wire protocol.
RS-485 RETAIL & RS485 FLEET FUEL COMMUNICATION (P/N 121992)
To be used with Allied NeXGen remote consoles for retail communication or a fleet management system for commercial use. The RS485
uses a 2-wire protocol. RS485 wires should be twisted together no less than 3 turns per foot to reduce the effects of electrical noise on
the communication circuit. Bennett highly recommends the use of twisted wires. Note: Belden shielded cable is accepted but the “drain”
must not be terminated.

PULSE OUTPUT BOARD (FLEET MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS)
Note: Used with Electronic Dispenser Models 3X11, 3X12, 3X22, X10DEF, and X20DEF where X is 7, 8, or 9.
The pulse output board connects to the 719 CPU on connector J7. It supports up to two fueling positions on the single RS485 connection.
The pulse output board interfaces with the fleet system using three signals. Refer to the programming section earlier in this manual to
configure Pulse Unit, Pulse Period (PPS), and Pulse Ratio.
1. Pulse Output –The pulse output allows the 3000 Series Mechanical interface to send pulse information to the Console and the Tank
Gauge. The system can be programmed to output pulse ratio from 1:1. 10:1. 100:1, and 1000:1. The fleet system and tank gauge
connected to the dispenser must provide 5 –12 volts DC for the pulse output channel. Refer to the Programming Section to for pulse
output configuration.
2. Handle Switch Signal –The handle switch signal can be used to signal the console that the pump is “IN USE”. Some fleet systems
require this signal and some do not.
3. Authorization Signal –A fleet system can send authorization to a fueling point via a 110-volt signal that allows the fueling point to
reset at the beginning of the sale. Without this signal, the dispenser will not reset when in the “Mechanical” mode.
SATELLITE BOARD (OPTIONAL)
The Satellite Board is used to control the valve in the satellite unit and to receive handle signals from the satellite unit. This board is
located in the Master unit and the field wires to the valve and the handle from the satellite connects to this board. The optional satellite
“in use” light will illuminate when the satellite handle is raised.
3-PHASE CONTACTOR BOARD (OPTIONAL)
The contactor board is used for 3-Phase (380VAC) Suction Pump Motor Control. Self-contained dispensers have the pump motor
mounted in the lower hydraulic area. Power is passed to the pump motor using the pump motor relay located on the CPU board in the
electronic enclosure.

HYDRAULIC COMPONENT OVERVIEW
DUAL PHASE PULSERS (STANDARD FLOW)
The 3000 series pulsers are dual phase electronics pulsers that pulse at a rate of 1024 pulses per gallon. These pulsers are physically
mounted to the output shaft of the Bennett SB-100 meter. Note: There is one pulser for every meter. As fuel flows through the meter,
the output shaft rotates and turns the pulser. Approximately 8 rotations of the meter represents 1 gallon of fuel. Refer to the Service &
Troubleshooting section for more information.
SB-100 METER (MECHANICAL OR ELECTRONIC)
The Bennett SB-100 meter is used to measure the flow of fuel in the ‘Standard Flow’ 3000 Dispenser. It is a volumetric meter employing
four pistons with seals and associated chambers. The SB-100 meter maintains a .3% accuracy for flow rates from 1.3GPM (5LPM) to 26
GPM (100 LPM). Note: The SB-100 meter must be calibrated prior to dispenser use. This meter can be ordered with mechanical
calibration or without. If ordered without it, the electronic calibration must be used. Refer to the SB100 Meter Operation, Service, and
Parts Manual for detailed information.
HIGH FLOW METER AND PULSER
The high flow meter and pulser are contained in a single unit and used in the ‘Big Fueler’ dispensers to higher flow rates. This meter /
pulser assembly is electronically calibrated in the field using the E-CAL switch on the 719 CPU board. Refer to the Electronic Calibration
portion of this manual for further details.

SOLENOID VALVES
There are two types of solenoid valves available. The standard flow series dispensers uses a 1” proportional valve (2-wires) and the Big
Fueler (High Flow) dispenser uses a 1-1/2” 2-stage solenoid valve (3-wires).
The valve is used to control product flowing through a hose. It prevents the unauthorized dispensing from a hose that is not authorized. It
is also used to slow down the flow towards the end of a pre-pay or preset sale. There is one valve on the output of every meter.
Note: For the Satellite unit in a Master / Satellite high flow system, the valve in the satellite operates off 120 VAC. However, the valve
in the Master unit operates off +24 VDC.
TYPE 75 PUMPING UNIT (STANDARD FLOW)
The Bennett Type 75 pumping unit is used to pump fuel at two standard flows of 22-gpm (80-lpm) or at 13 gpm (50-lpm). Dispensers
using 60Hz power the 13-gpm pump requires a 250 Watt 1/3 HP motor and the 22-gpm pump uses a 560 Watt 3/4 HP motor. Dispensers
using 50Hz power it should be noted that the 22-gpm pump at different speeds could be done by changing the pump pulley. Refer to the
T75 Pumping Unit Operators, Service, and Parts Manual for more information.
TYPE 140 PUMPING UNIT (HIGH FLOW)
The Bennett Type 140 pumping unit is used to pump fuel at nominal flow rates of 37gpm (140lpm). Refer to the T140 Pumping Unit
Operators, Service, and Parts Manual for more information.

SECTION 3: PRELIMINARY INSTALL INFORMATION
To ensure proper operation and to receive optimal performance of the Bennett 3000 Series Dispenser, it is highly recommended that all
local, state, and federal requirements be observed for installation of all equipment.
Compliance with these standards protects the operator and the consumer from personal injury and ensure an accurate delivery of
product. Any deviation from the use of authorized replacement parts or alteration of a designed product configuration may cause
personal injury, death or the revocation of one or all of the above approvals.
UNLOADING, UNPACKING, AND INSPECTING A NEW DISPENSER
Bennett dispensers are bolted to a pallet and then carefully packaged with cardboard/Styrofoam liners and a cardboard exterior carton.
The entire package is then securely wrapped with plastic shrink-wrap. Use a fork lift to lift the dispenser while it is still on the pallet.
Before signing the freight delivery receipt, inspect the carton and pallet for any obvious signs of damage that may have damaged the
dispenser. If any damage is found, instruct the delivery driver to make a notation on the delivery receipt before signing it. Open the
carton and inspect the dispenser before signing the delivery receipt.
Bennett dispensers are shipped Ex-Works. This means that the title to the equipment passes to the purchaser at the time the equipment
is loaded on the truck at our factory. Freight damage claims are the responsibility of the purchaser. Bennett will assist in preparing any
damage claim, by helping identify and price any parts necessary to make needed repairs.
Carefully remove the plastic shrink-wrap from the carton. Then carefully remove the cardboard container and any inside liners. DO NOT
DISCARD THE PACKAGING. Should the need arise to repackage the dispenser; the cardboard packaging can be reused. Plastic shrink-wrap
can be purchased at office supply stores or industrial packaging stores.
Examine the exterior panels for any signs of freight damage. If damage is found after signing for delivery, call the freight carrier
immediately and request an inspection. DO NOT DISCARD THE PACKAGING; the inspector will want to examine it.
Once you are sure that there is no freight damage to the exterior of the dispenser, use the door key (wire tied to the nozzle hook) to
unlock the lower door. Remove the lower door from both sides of the dispenser. Visually examine the interior of the dispenser for
shipping damage. While the dispenser is extremely sturdy, a dispenser that has been “dropped” can suffer damage internally even while
it appears normal on the exterior.
Read the model/serial plate of the dispenser and check to confirm that the hydraulic configuration matches the order specified. Report
any non-shipping related problems to Bennett Customer Service by mail, facsimile, telephone or e-mail at the locations specified below:

UNDERGROUND AND ABOV EGROUND STORAGE TANKS
Make sure the installation for underground and aboveground storage tanks conforms to the new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
regulations and are in accordance with the National Fire Protection Agency NFPA 70: National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 30A: Code for
Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages, NFPA 30: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, International Fire Code (IFC),
and all state and local codes.
Follow Petroleum Equipment Institute’s Recommended Practices for Installation of Underground Liquid Storage Systems RP100 and/or
Recommended Practices for Installation of Above Ground Storage Systems for Motor Vehicle Fueling RP200. The installation must conform
to EPA, NFPA, and State regulations for storage tanks.
CAUTION: THE AIR ELIMINATOR (COPPER) TUBE MUST REMAIN OPEN TO THE ATMOSPHERE FOR PROPER
VENTILATION.
Always test new and used storage tanks prior to use. When a new dispenser is attached to an old installation, the tanks should be cleaned
and tested for leaks. Any water accumulation in the tank must be removed. Note: Tank testing should be done by a qualified professional.
Refer to the Environmental Protection Agency for Underground Storage Tank (UST) Regulations.
IMPORTANT: Bennett Pump is not responsible for any damage to the dispenser or for improper operation due to
accidents, abuse, or faulty installation. We highly recommend installing new wires in the underground
metal conduits to validate the equipment warranty.
ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANKS
Bennett Self-Contained dispensers can be used with Aboveground Storage Tank installation if the following requirements are met.
An Underwriters (U.L.) Listed Pressure Regulating Valve designed for under-the-pump mounting is installed for each pumping
unit according to the valve manufacturer’s instructions.
Any additional valves suggested by the Pressure Regulating Valve manufacturer are installed according to the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS
Underground Storage Tanks are installed and used must conform to EPA, NFPA, and State regulations for underground storage tanks. For
complete instructions for installing underground liquid storage systems, order “Recommended Practices for Installation of Underground
Liquid Storage Systems” from the Petroleum Equipment Institute, P.O. Box 2380, Tulsa, OK 74101 or at http://www.pei.org
The underground storage tanks for self-contained dispensers should be as close to the dispenser as possible. In hot climates or high
altitudes, the distance should be very close to prevent vapor lock. The total length of horizontal piping between the self-contained
dispenser and the underground storage tank should be no more than 60 feet.
For Bennett Dispensers the horizontal section of pipe from the underground storage tank should be at least 18 inches below the surface
at its highest point. If not, hot summer temperatures will convert the liquid in the pipe to vapor and stop the dispenser from functioning
properly. All joints in the product line must be tight. The product line must not sag or have any high spots.
Swing joints or flex pipe must be used at the ends of the horizontal pipe between the dispenser and the tank. These joints
prevent leaks that might develop through ground movement from settling of the tank, frost heaving of the ground or pump
island settling. The joint under the dispenser also aids proper alignment of the product union or coupling.
All piping must be clean of foreign debris such as oil, grease, and shavings. All connections must be liquid tight to prevent leaks.
Flexible Connectors must be listed and labeled according to UL 2039, Standard for Flexible Connector Pipe for Fuels.
All piping shall be supported and protected against physical damage, including damage from stresses arising from settlement,
vibration, expansion, or contraction. The installation of nonmetallic piping shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.
