DS7400Xi ROM Update Kit
Installation Instructions
Static electricity can damage the read only
memory (ROM) chip. Before handling the
chip, discharge any static electricity within
your body by touching the grounded
DS7400Xi Enclosure.
Do not touch the ROM chip pins when
handling it.
Note the original ROM chip’s orientation
before removing it from the control panel.
1.0 Description
Use the ROM Update Kit when updating the
DS7400Xi Control Panel’s system software. This kit
has one ROM chip that replaces an existing chip on
the DS7400Xi Control Panel’s printed circuit board
(PCB).
2.0 Installation
1. Remove all power from the DS7400Xi Control
Panel by unplugging the transformer and
removing the red lead from the battery.
2. Locate the original DS7400Xi ROM chip on
the control panel (Figure 1).
3. Before removing the existing chip, note the
orientation of the chip notch. Some notches are
at the top of the control panel and others are at
the bottom. Orient the new chip the same way
as the one you are replacing.
4. Remove the old chip from the control panel by
inserting a flat head screwdriver under the chip
and gently prying it up.
5. Insert the new chip into the vacant socket,
ensuring the notch in the new chip faces the
same way as the notch in the original chip and
all pins are correctly seated in the socket.
6. If the pins of the new chip are spread too wide
to fit into the socket, lay the chip on its side and
gently roll it inward to press the pins toward the
body of the chip.
7. Restore power to the DS7400Xi by plugging in
the red battery lead and plugging in the
transformer.
8. Discard the original ROM chip.
9. Refer to the DS7400Xi Reference Guide to
complete control panel installation and
programming.
