INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFILLING BROTHER TN241/TN245 C RTRIDGE
PRINTER COMP TIBILITY: HL-3140CW, HL-3150CDN, HL-3150CDW, HL-31 0CDW.
Please read instructions from start to finish,
before you start your refill.
During the refill procedure do not touch the
developer roller (that runs the length of the
cartridge)
Before your refill it – reset it!
This reset procedure is highly recommended before refilling so as to extend the life of your cartridge,
making full use of the toner inside for additional cost savings.
Refill when you decide the toner needs replaced not Brother!
By resetting your Brother printer's page counter, you can avoid having to reset your cartridge's flag gear or
install one on a starter cartridge. You will also have less toner to empty and will get more prints from your
cartridge.

appears – Don’t replace it reset
it !
Open the front cover of the printer
(to access cartridges).
With the front cover open,
simultaneously press the Secure and
Cancel buttons

The reset menu will now appear on
the LCD display.
Scroll through the menu to select a
colour and yield to reset
The LCD will read "Accepted" once
the reset is complete.
Continue to print until the colour
fades from your prints. When you
are not happy with the colour prints
then you can refill the cartridge.

Refilling the Cartridge
When you the colour fades from your prints - you will eventually need to refill the cartridge.
Remove the 2 screws shown.
We show opposite both a black cartridge and a
magenta cartridge for illustration.

Locate the hopper cap on your cartridge.
Remove the hopper cap using needle nose pliers, or
a flat blade screwdriver to lever out the hopper cap
5 W RNING: You must ensure all toner is
dumped from your cartridge before refilling with
the new toner.
Important - mixing new and old toner will cause
print defects to occur.
If you used the reset procedure before refilling
there will not be much toner to dump.
Empty in an area
that can tolerate a
toner spill i.e. your
garage.
Toner can be very
messy - empty the
old toner directly
into a large bin bag.
Shake your bottle of
new toner vigorously
for 30 seconds
BEFORE removing
the cap.
Remove the cap and
seal from the bottle
Fit the toner
pouring spout
securely to the
bottle.
Screw it down as
tight as it will go.
Wrap any type of tape around the base of the spout
& neck of the bottle to prevent any fine toner
powder escaping.

Refilling the cartridge
You can now either refill the cartridge directly via the small hole / or make a paper funnel to assist you.
Direct Refill
If refilling directly be careful to avoid the plastic
post.
Hold the cartridge at 45 degrees.
Carefully insert the spout into the hole at the angle
shown.
Direct Refill
With the spout inserted into the hole – carefully
“Upend” the cartridge and allow the toner to slowly
pour into the cartridge.
The toner will flow out like water, so take care
not to spill it.
Make a paper funnel and refill
Create a paper funnel out of a small piece of paper.
Apply some tape at the tapered end of the funnel to
stop the funnel unravelling.
Insert the paper funnel into the hole.

Hold the cartridge at 45 degrees.
Carefully insert the spout into the funnel
The toner will flow out like water, so take care
not to spill it.
Funnel refill
With the spout inserted into the funnel – carefully
“Upend” the bottle and allow the toner to slowly
pour into the cartridge.
Whichever option you decide to use to refill, please take your time.
Replace the cap securely into refill hole.

Replace the cover.
Replace the screws.
Gently rock the cartridge from side to side to distribute the toner in the cartridge.
Wipe away any excess toner from around the plug. Your refill is complete.

Colour Fade document:
If you reset the page counter, it can be difficult to tell which colour is then low on toner.
Use the Color Fade page to help determine which cartridge needs to be refilled
Print the page a number of times until the fade out is clearly visible
•
Black fading - Black is low
•
Blue fading - Cyan is low
•
Blue and Orange fading - Magenta is low
•
Yellow and Orange - Yellow is low
