system by BWT!
You have made a good choice, as your new water ltering system is a real
quality product produced by BWT, the Europe-wide leading water technology
specialist from Austria.
Conventional water lters reduce carbonate hardness for prevention of lime
scale deposits, remove concentrations of heavy metals, e.g. lead and copper,
(if contained in the water) and eliminate taste-distorting elements, e.g. chlorine,
from the tap water. An ion exchanger takes on the main function by taking up
nearly all of the previously mentioned substances, except chlorine, primarily in
exchange with hydrogen ions. The result is a sour taste due to the low pH-value
of the water, which is in particular noticed at the beginning of the utilization
phase.
BWT takes an entirely different approach and thanks to the innovative Mg
2
+
formula offers a signicant advantage. In addition to the above mentioned
functions of a water lter, BWT in exchange with total hardness, uses magnesium
ions so that the water tastes less sour.
The pleasant effect: The valuable mineral magnesium serves as avour carrier
and thus provides for improved taste and more intense aroma of tea, coffee

BETTER WATER

pesticides are reduced.
SAVINGS
Scale deposits in coffee machines, espresso machines, pots and

Apart from that you not only save good money, but also the
cumbersome carrying of heavy water bottles, when you use BWT
as potable water.
TASTY WATER

 TheBWTwaterlteringsystemmayonlybeoperatedwithcoldwater
fulllingthelegalrequirementsmadeonpotablewaterquality.
 Thewaterlterisunsuitablefortheproductionofpotablewater;i.e.the
ltermaynotbeusedfortreatmentofcontaminatedwater.
 TheBWTlteredwaterisintendedforshort-termuse.Itmaynotbeexposed
to direct radiation of the sun, is to be stored in a cool place and not longer
than24hours.Ifthelteredwateriskeptlongerthan24hoursinthewater
lteringsystem,whitemarksmayoccurinthejugthroughtheevaporation
of water, which can easily be removed through cleaning.
 Afterlteringmorethan3litressubsequently,apauseofatleast15minu-
tes should be made.
 Permanentwatercontactoftheltercartridgeisnotparticularlynecessary,
inordertoguarantylong-termoperationoftheltercartridge.Thelter
cartridgecontinuestofunction,alsoifitwastakenoutofthewaterforsome
time.
 Iffromtheofcialsideyouarerequested,toboilthetapwaterdueto
contaminationwithgerms,thisalsoappliestoBWTlteredwater.When
the authorities classify the tap water again as harmless and release it for
consumption,theltercartridgemustinanycasebechanged.Thewater
lteringsystemistobecleaned(seechapter6.1and8).
For certain groups of people, e.g. persons with limited immune defence and
forthepreparationofbabyfood,theBWTlteredwateristobeboiled.
 Forhygienicreasonstheltercartridgecontainssmallquantitiesofsilver,
in order to suppress the growth of germs. A small quantity of silver may be
given off to the water. It is harmless and in compliance with the corres-
ponding recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) for
potable water.
 Theltercartridgeshallbereplacedatleast4weeksafteritsrstuse.

Theservicelifeoftheltercartridgevariesaccordingtotheplaceofapplicati-
on, as the quality of water is not everywhere the same. The total hardness of the
ltercartridgecomparedtotheretainedhardnessdependsonthehardnessof
thewater.Theharderthewater,theearliertheltercartridgewillbeexhausted.

The mentioned substances, e.g. lead and copper, which are reduced by the
lter,arenotalwayscontainedinpotablewater.
Thewaterlterfullsthemicrobiologicalrequirementsmadeonwaterlters
according to DIN 10521. The requirements according to DIN 10521 made on
chlorine,leadandcopperretentionarefullled.

6. HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS
6.1 Initial operation and filter cartridge change
Priortotherstuseorchangeoftheexhaustedltercartridgecleanjug,funnel
andlidoftheBWTwaterlteringsystemwithmildsoapywaterandrinse
thoroughly with warm water. Do not use any abrasive cleaning agents or scrub-
bingsponges,asscratchmarkscouldbeleftontheBWTwaterlteringsystem.
Jug and funnel can be washed in the dishwasher. The lid may not be washed in
the dishwasher.
Inordertoachievebestpossibleltrationperformance,werecommendyouto
putthenewltercartridgeintapwaterfor15minutes.Afterthatpleasediscard
the water.
Subsequentlyinsertthenewltercartridgeintothefunnelofthewaterltering
system by pressing it in lightly.
IftheBWTwaterlteringsystemisequippedwiththeautomaticllingsystem
„Easy-Fill“inthelid,itisnotnecessarytotakeoffthelidwhenllingthejug.
The„Easy-Fill“systemopensautomatically,whenthewaterjetmeetstheopen-
ingandclosesautomaticallyafterlling.IftheBWTwaterlteringsystemdoes
not have an opening in the lid, the lid must be removed. BWT recommends you
toclosethelidafterlling.
DiscardtherstlteredwaterllingandrelltheBWTwaterlteringsystem.
Fineblackparticlesofactivatedcarboncouldbeushedout,whichare,how-
ever,completelyharmless.Inthiscasewerecommendtorellthejug
and discard the water again until it is clear and free from particles.
TheBWTwaterlteringsystemisnowreadyforuse.

Putting into operation:
Press the push button for 5 seconds. The indication then
automaticallyadjuststo„0“andthe„Easy-Control“isnow
ready for operation.
Counting function:
EachllingoftheBWTwaterlteringsystemiscountedby
means of the „Easy Control“.
Filter cartridge change:
Thedisplaystartsashingifeitherthemaximumnumber
ofllingsorthemaximumperiodofuseisexceeded(de-
pendingonwhathappensrst).Nowachangeofthelter
cartridge becomes necessary. After inserting the cartridge,
pleasekeepthepushbuttonpressedfor5seconds.Thecoun-
terthenautomaticallyadjuststo„0“.
Pause function:
Ifyouwanttointerrupttheuseofthelter(e.g.atweekends),
youcanusethepausefunction.Emptythejugandleavethe
cartridge in the system. Press the push button for 3 times. The
displaythenautomaticallyadjuststo„P“(pause).Thetimeas
wellasthellingquantityisstopped.Pleasekeepthewater
lteringsystemtogetherwithcartridgeinthefridge.After
yourreturnactivateyour„Easy-Control“byrellingorby
pressing the push button for three times. The stored counter
readingisshowninthedisplay.Pleasediscardtherstlling
after the pause. At active pause function the display continu-
esindicationuntilthepauseisnished.
Safety function:
In order to guarantee correct counting, the „Easy-Control“,
aftereachling,makesacountingpauseof15seconds.
Evenifduringthistimethe„Easyll“isopenedforseveral
times,recordingofthellingsiscorrect.

At the manual exchange indicator the date
forthenextltercartridgechangecanbe
set. The exchange indicator consists of two
turnable rings. The internal ring indicates the
month, the external ring the day. The date
forthechangeoftheltercartridgeissetby
turning the rings so that day and month for
change are aligned with the arrow in the lid.
Theltercartridgeshouldbechangedatleast
after4weeks,alsoifthecapacity(numberof
llings)oftheltercartridgehasnotyetbeen
reached.

7.1 Recommendations on the frequency of lter cartridge/
lter material change
Optimalwaterisonlyguaranteed,iftheltercartridgeischangedregularly.The
BWTwaterlteringsystemisequippedwithamanualorelectronicexchange
indicator,whichindicateswhentheltercartridgeshouldbechanged.(Operation
see chapter 6).
7.2 Instructions on interruption of use
Ifuseisinterrupted,pleasekeepthewaterlteringsystemtogetherwiththe
cartridge in the fridge.
Incaseofnterruptionofuseofmorethantwodays(weekends),pourouttherst
llingandrellthewaterlter.
Afteradowntimeofmorethan2weeks,replacetheltercartridge(seechapter
6.1).
8. CARE & CLEANING OF THE BWT WATER FILTERING SYSTEM
Ateachchangeoftheltercartridge,pleasecleantheBWTwaterlteringsystem
with mild soapy water and rinse it thoroughly with warm water. Do not use any
abrasivecleaningagentsorscrubbingsponges,asscratchmarkscouldbelefton
thewaterlteringsystem.Jugandfunnelcanbewashedinthedishwasher.
DuringuseoftheBWTwaterlteringsystemlimestainsmayoccurinparticular
onthelidoftheBWTwaterlteringsystemthroughdriedwaterdrops.Thelime
stainscanberemovedwithacommerciallyavailabledecalcicationagent.
The lid including the „Easy-Control“ may not be cleaned in the dishwasher.

The exchange indicator „Easy Control“ is an electronic component, which is to be
disposed of according to the locally applicable regulations
and legal provisions. The exchanger indicator can be re-
moved from the lid by means of a screwdriver, which is put
under the rim of the „Easy-Control“. The „Easy-Control“ may
only be removed from the lid for reasons of disposal.

Les ltres à eau traditionnels réduisent la dureté carbonatée an d’empêcher
tout dépôt de calcaire et extraient de l’eau du robinet les métaux lourds, com-
me le plomb et le cuivre (s’ils sont présents dans l’eau), ainsi que les substances
qui dénaturent le goût, comme le chlore. La fonction principale est assurée par
un échangeur d’ions qui absorbe presque toutes les substances précitées, à
l’exception du chlore, et les remplace par des ions d’hydrogène. L’eau obtenue
a un goût acide provoqué par la faible valeur du pH, particulièrement percep-
tible au début de l’utilisation.

UNE EAU LIMPIDE – DES RÉSULTATS ÉVIDENTS
Lacarafeltranteestidéalepourlapréparationdeboissonschau-
des et froides, ainsi que pour la cuisson. La teneur en calcaire de
l’eau est réduite. Les particules présentes dans l’eau sont éliminées

UNE EAU PLUS SAINE
Les métaux lourds, tels que le plomb et le cuivre, ainsi que les
impuretés organiques, comme certains herbicides et pestici-
