1. Insert the supplied “Printer Driver CD” in CD-ROM drive.

Important Safety Instructions
Prior to using this printer, please read this section ("Important Safety Instructions") thoroughly.
Warnings and important matters are described here to ensure safe use of this product. Do not attempt to operate
this printer in any way other than those mentioned in the manual.
■Installation
WARNING
• As shown in the diagram below, place the printer away from walls in order to maintain airflow. Also,
maintain at least 11.8" (300 mm) of open space above the printer. Blocking the vents may cause the
printer to overheat and catch fire.

• Do not place the following objects on the printer:
-Necklaces and other metal objects
-Cups, vases, flowerpots, and other containers filled with water or liquids
If such an object is brought into contact with the electrical parts inside the printer, this could cause
a fire or electrical shock. If an object enters the inside of the printer, turn the printer off immediately,
disconnect the power plug from the power outlet and contact your place of purchase.
• The electrical contacts inside the printer become extremely hot during normal operation. To avoid
causing a fire, do not store flammable substances like alcohol, thinner, etc. near the printer.
CAUTION
• Do not install the printer in the following locations:
-A damp or dusty location
-A location exposed to oily smoke or steam; e.g., near a countertop or humidifier.
-A location exposed to rain or snow.
-A location exposed to salty wind.
-A location subject to high temperatures
-A location near open flames

• Do not place the printer in an unstable location; e.g., on a wobbling or inclined table, or a location
subject to frequent vibrations. The printer could fall down or fall over, resulting in personal injury.
• Never place the printer where it will be exposed to rapid changes in temperature, such as indirect
sunlight, near an air conditioner, or in a car on a hot day. This could cause a fire or damage to the printer.
• Use the printer in the following operating environment:
Operating environment: 10 to 30 degrees Celsius (50 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit)
RH 20% to 80% (with no condensation)
•If the printer is carried into a warm room on a cold day, this could cause condensation inside the printer. If this
happens, allow the printer to sit for at least 1 hour at room temperature to adapt to the ambient temperature
and humidity.
•Do not install under strong light. This could cause a malfunction.
•To ensure normal operation of the printer and avoid possible damage, do not install the printer near large office
equipment or any other type of electrical device that emits a strong magnetic field.
■Power Supply
WARNING
• Do not use any power cord other than those supplied with the printer. Do not use.This could cause a fire
or electric shock.
• Do not bring the power cord close to heating appliance. This could melt the cable sheath and cause a
fire or electric shock.
• To avoid a fire or electrical shock, do not use an extension cord.
• To avoid a fire or serious electrical shock, connect the printer power cord to an independent power
outlet that is not shared by other equipment or appliances.
• To avoid causing a fire or serious electrical shock, make sure that the power plug is securely and
completely inserted into the power outlet.
• Do not damage, break, or modify the power cord. Do not place a heavy object on, heat, or pull the AC
cord . This could cause power leakage from the damaged portion, resulting in a fire or electric shock.
• To avoid personal injury from an electrical shock, do not handle the power cord or plug when your
hands are wet.
• To avoid a fire or serious electrical shock, do not knot the power cord or wrap it around itself.
• Disconnect the printer power cord during severe electrical storms. Lightning could cause a fire or severe
electrical shock or damage to the printer.

CAUTION
• To avoid damaging the power plug, which could cause a short circuit and cause a fire or electrical shock,
do not pull on the power cord to unplug the cord from the power supply. Always grip the plug to
remove it from the power supply.
• Always keep the area around the power plug free of obstacles so you can unplug it easily. This allows
you to unplug the power cord quickly in an emergency.
• Do not use any power outlet other than the one rated for the printer. This printer is designed to be used
in the region where you purchased it. Also, make sure that the power outlet can supply sufficient power
for the printer. This could cause a fire or serious electrical shock, or damage the printer.
■Handling
WARNING
• There are high voltage points inside the printer. To avoid a fire or electrical shock, do not attempt to
disassemble or repair the printer.
• Do not touch anything inside the printer unless specified in this manual.
• The lower part of the top access cover, the printer
internal heat rollersection, and the thermal
headsection get very hot. Ensure you do not touch
these three locations.

• Do not insert any metal objects into the printer. Also, do not let a metallic piece (clip, staple, etc.), or
water and a flammable solvent (alcohol, benzene, thinner, etc.) into the printer. If it is brought into
contact with the electric parts inside the printer, a fire or electric shock could result. If an object enters
the inside of the printer, turn the printer off immediately, disconnect the power plug from the power
outlet and contact your place of purchase.
• When an abnormal sound, smoke, excessive heat, or strange odor is detected, turn the printer off
immediately, disconnect the power plug from the power outlet and contact your place of purchase.
Using the printer continuously could cause a fire or electric shock. Do not attempt to repair the printer
by yourself. This could cause a fire or serious electrical shock.
•Do not use a flammable spray near the printer. If the sprayed gas is brought into contact with the electric
parts inside the printer, a fire or electric shock could result.

CAUTION
• If the printer is dropped and damaged, turn the printer off immediately, disconnect the power plug from
the power outlet, and contact your place of purchase. If you continue to use the printer, this could cause
a fire or serious electrical shock.
• If the printer will not be used for a long period of time, for your safety disconnect the power cord from
the power outlet.
• Do not place a heavy object on the printer. It could fall down or fall over, resulting in personal injury.
• Keep the power cord, cables, gears, belts, rollers, and electric parts inside the printer out of the reach of
children. Otherwise, a personal injury or printer failure could result.
• Do not place the printer close to TV, radio receiver or loudspeakers, etc. The magnetic field may cause the printer
to malfunction, or the printer may interfere with TV/radio reception.
• While the printer is operating, do not turn off the power, unplug the power cord, orlook inside the printer. If the
power is turned off while the printer is operating it will not be possible to remove the transfer film cassette and
ink ribbon cassette. If you turn the printer off by mistake, turn the power on again.

■Moving
CAUTION
• Turn the printer off prior to moving it. Remove the power plug from the power outlet, and disconnect
the interface cable. Otherwise, the power cord and other cables could be damaged, resulting in a fire or
electric shock.
• Detach the stacker prior to carrying the printer.
•When carrying the printer, be sure to securely hold the printer
with both hands to avoid dropping it.
■Maintenance and Inspections
WARNING
• To avoid a fire hazard, occasionally disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power supply
and use a soft dry cloth to clean the cord connectors and the connection points. Leaving the cord
plugged in and not cleaned for a long period, especially in an area subject to dust, oil, and high humidity,
could cause the insulation material to deteriorate.
• When cleaning the printer, do not use a flammable solvent (alcohol, thinner, etc.). If a flammable solvent
is brought into contact with the parts inside the printer, a fire or electric shock could result.
•Check the power cord, power plug regularly. If the following conditions occur, contact your place of
purchase, as the condition may cause a fire:
-There are burn marks on the power plug.
-The blade on the power plug is deformed or broken.
-The power goes OFF and ON when the power cord is bent.
-There are cuts, cracks, or indentations on the power cord.
-The power cord becomes hot.
• Check the power cord, power plug regularly to make sure that they are not handled in the following
manner, as this may result in a fire or electrical shock:
-The connection part of the power plug is loose.
-The power cord is under a heavy object.

-The power cord is subjected to stress, for example, it is pulled excessively or secured with staples.
-The power plug is loose.
-The power cord is tied in a bundle.
-The power cord protrudes into a walkway.
-The power cord is placed in front of heating appliance.
CAUTION
• Before cleaning the printer, be sure to turn it off and remove the power plug from the power outlet.
Otherwise, a fire or electric shock could result.
• Note the following cautions when cleaning the rollers.
-Remove any cards that are inside the printer.
-After cleaning the rollers, do not use the printer until the
rollers get dry (for at least five minutes).
-Do not touch the rollers with your bare hands.
-Use caution when cleaning the bottom part of the decurl
section (output side) rollers as it is difficult to reach this part.
-The bottom part of location (A) in the figure above is the heat
roller, and is hot. Please exercise caution when cleaning.

■Ink Ribbon
CAUTION
• Be careful not to touch the ink side as much as possible. If skin touches the ink side, wash it with soap
and water enough.If irritation persists, obtain medical advice.
• Always store these items out of the reach of small children.
■Other
• Discard the used consumables in compliance with local regulations regarding the disposal of such items.
• Under the following conditions images on cards may deteriorate or cards may warp after printing.
-The surface of the card is in contact for an extended period of time with a vinyl card holder or synthetic
leather or other material that contains plasticizer.
-The surface of the card is exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time.
-The card is repeatedly rubbed against a hard object.

-The faces of two cards are in contact for an extended period of time.
-The card is kept for an extended period of time in a very hot location such as a car parked in the sun.
-The card is bent, or used with excessive force.
• If a card with a magnetic strip is placed near a magnetic source, the data on the strip may become corrupted.
Additionally, if the IC card is bent, or used with excessive force, the IC chip maybe damaged.

Step 1. Preparation for Installation
1 Checking the Installation site.
The printer needs the installation space shown in the diagram below. Also, maintain at least 11.8" (300
mm) of open space above the printer.

• Temperature and humidity

2 Verify that all of the following accessories are in the box.

•Other documents
• Keep the shipping box, packing materials and protectors for future use, for example, storage or transportation of
the printer.
• If any accessory is missing or damaged, contact your place of purchase.
Note
• LAN cables are not supplied with the printer.
• Ink ribbon and transfer film are not supplied with the printer.
•Use the cleaning card to clean the inside of the printer.

Step 2. Installing the Printer
1 Move the printer to the installation site.
CAUTION
• Carry the printer as shown in the diagram above. Holding the printer in any other way may cause injury,
or damage to the printer.
2 Remove all pieces of the packaging and fixing tape from the printer.
3 Attaching the card stacker.
⿟Insert the hooks of the provided card stacker to
the holes by the card ejection slot (left).

Step 3. Installing the Ink Ribbon/Transfer Film/Cleaning Tape
Prepare the ink ribbon/transfer film (sold separately). The cleaning tape is included with the transfer film.

■Installing the Ink Ribbon
1 Open the front cover.

2 Remove the ink ribbon cassette.

⿟Pull out the handle of the ink ribbon cassette
with the handle turned up.
Note
• When placing the ink ribbon cassette down, in order to prevent debris
adhering to it, place it with the handle on the bottom.
3 Take the new ink ribbon out of the package.

holder and a spindle with a black holder.

4 Load the ink ribbon spindle (magenta) into the magenta cassette holder.

1. As shown in the diagram, push the ink
ribbon spindle into the cassette holder
at an angle ( a), and straighten it in the
direction of arrow ( b).
⿟Check that the ink ribbon holder clicks into
the cassette groove.
5 Unroll the ink ribbon along the shaft, and load the ink ribbon spindle (black) into the
black cassette holder.

direction of arrow ( a).
2. Push the ink ribbon spindle into the
cassette holder at an angle ( b), and
straighten it in the direction of arrow ( c).
⿟Check that the ink ribbon holder clicks into
the cassette groove.
6 Take up the ink ribbon slack.
⿟As shown in the diagram, turn the knob to take
up the ribbon slack.
⿟If the slack is not taken up properly, the ink
ribbon may jam.
