INSTALLATION
Connecting the HoTelephone (Models 3910s and 3810X)
ConnectingthisHoTelephoneto atelephonecompanyline mustbe
througha universal serviceordercode(USOC) outletjack. The
USOCjack codenumbersare:
l Single-linedesktelephone= RJl 1C
l Single-linewall telephone= RJl 1W
If the installation site doesn’thavethe properjack(s) andinside
wiring, it is theuseror installer’sresponsibilityto arrangefor their
installation. The correctoutletjack for this equipmentis an in-
dustry-standardtype625A2-6jack wired pertheUSOCjack code
number.
Local telephonecompanyregulationsmay notpermit connections
topartylinesandcoinlinesby anyoneexceptthetelephoneoperat-
ing company.
Preparing the HoTelephone for Wall Mounting
This telephoneis shippedfrom thefactoryconfiguredfor deskuse.
To convertfrom astandarddeskmodelto onethatcanbehungon
the wall, follow theprocedureoutlinedbelow.
1. Disconnectline cord from telephone.
2. Turn telephoneoverto exposelower housing.

The telephone circuitry is sensitive to static
electricity discharge. Be sure that your body
and the work place are properly grounded to
avoid any static electricity discharge while
step 3 is being performed.
3. Removescrewsthatattachlowerhousingtoupperhousing.
Carefully separatelower andupperhousingsmaking sure
not to disconnectwiring betweenthetwo housings.
4. This telephoneis equippedwith adata/auxiliaryport.
l Removeholecoverfrom newopeningthatauxiliaryjack
is to occupy.

l Slide hole cover into old openingthat auxiliary jack
vacated.

5. Snaptaboutof openingin bottomof lower housing.Insert
into handsetcradleto createawall-mounting hookfor the
handset(Figure 1).
6. Carefully reverselower housingend-for-end(rotateit 180
degrees).Do not disturbany internal wiring during this
process.
7. Refastenlower housingto upperhousing.
l Make surethat all wires areclear.
l Do not over-tighten screws when reinstalling lower
housing.
8. Route line cord through appropriatechannel on lower
housing,andreconnectit to telephone. A shortline cord
canbesubstitutedfor thestandardsuppliedoneif desired.
Wall Mounting the HoTelephone
Mount thetelephonedirectly on the wall using two #lO panhead
screws(obtainedlocally), ormountit on awall jack coverplate. If
you are using a wall jack cover plate, an AT&T type 630B wall
plate is recommended for best results.
1. If #lO screwsareused,threadthem into the wall within
Winch of thesurface. Referto Figure 1for thespacing
dimensions.
2. Position the keyhole-shapedholes in the bottom of the
telephoneover the #lO screwsor the cover plate studs.
Slide thetelephonedownuntil aslight click is felt.
3. To removethetelephone,lift tounsnapbothscrewsorstuds
from the bottom housing,andthenlift it away from the
wall.

TELEPHONE OPERATION
Operating these single-line telephones (Figures 2 and 3) is
straightforwardandeasy.
Answering a Call
. Whentelephonerings,lift handsetandtalk.
Making a Call
Dialing anumber,
l Lift handsetanddial number.
Dialing aprogrammablebuttonfunction,
l Lift handset.
l Pressdesiredprogrammablebutton.
Dialing aspeeddial number,
l Lift handset.
l PresspreprogrammedSPEED button.
l Dial speeddial locationnumber(0- 9).
NOTE: The SPEED button and speed dial numbers are not available un-
less previously enabled by programming action.
Using Call Waiting
The3910sand3810XmodelHoTelephonesletyouswitchbetween
two simultaneoustelephonecalls. While you areon acall, atone
will soundinthehandsetreceiverlettingyouknow thatanothercall
is comingin.
To placethefirst call onhold andanswerthe secondcall,
l PressHOLD button.Youwill beconnectedtotheLine2call.
The Line 1light will flash andtheLine 2 light will turn on
steady.
To returnto first call andleavesecondcall onhold,
l PressHOLD button.Youwill now beconnectedto theLine
1 call. The Line 2 light will flash andtheLine 1light will
turn onsteady.
To returnto first call anddropsecondcall,
l PressLine 1 button. Line 2 light will turn off andLine 1
light will mm onsteady.

SPEAKERPHONE OPERATION
(Model 3910s Only)
When you make or answera call, you canhave a conversation
without using the telephonehandset,or handsfree,becausea
microphone and speakerare built into the telephoneset. The
microphone port is located in the front right-handedgeof the
telephone housing. To make sure the speakerphoneoperates
properly,checkto seethatthis port is notblockedby anyobstruc-
tions.
Answering a Call Using the Speakerphone
1. When the telephonerings, pressthe SPKR button.The
light abovethespeakerphoneon/off buttonwill turn onto
indicatethat speakerphoneis active.
2. Speakin normaltoneof voice towardtelephone.
3. If needed,adjustloudnessof caller’s voice With volume
controllocatedin frontedgeof telephone(Figure2).
4. End speakerphonecall by pressingSPKR button again.
Light will turnoff andtelephonewill hangup.
Making a Call Using the Speakerphone
1. PressSPKR button. Note that light turns on to indicate
speakerphoneis active.
2. Whendial toneis heardoverspeaker,dial desirednumber.
3. End speakerphonecall by pressingSPKR button again.
Light will turnoff andtelephonewill returnto idle state.
Switching Between Speakerphone and Handset During
a Call
Speakerphoneto handset,
1. Lift handsetfrom cradle.
2. Continuein-progresscall with handset.
3. Hanguphandsetto endcall.
