2STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
Given the size and weight of the device, any movement of the instrument has
to be executed by at least two people.
The VES-MATIC 5 is a precision instrument and has to be handled as such. Inappropriate
handling can harm the internal components and cause mechanical damage.
The packaging of the instrument and the locking of its internal moving parts guarantees
its integrity during transport if the following precautions are observed:
1) The palletised type packaging must be moved using a pallet truck
2) The instrument must not be turned upside down
3) The instrument must not be dropped from heights greater than 20 cm
4) The instrument must not be immersed in liquids, even partially
5) The instrument must not be stored in environments with humidity higher than
80% or lower than 20%
6) The instrument must not be stored at temperatures above 45°C and below 5°C.
7) The instrument must be transported using its original packaging, by specialised
personnel, equipped with the safety equipment necessary to prevent falls,
crushing and breakage.

3PREPARATION AND CHECKS BEFORE INSTALLATION
The following conditions must be guaranteed for the safety of the instrument and of the
operator:
The mains (installation category II) must be “compatible” with the
voltage and current specifications indicated on the metal plate
affixed on the rear of the instrument. It is advisable to periodically
check the efficiency of the electrical system of the premises. The
mains and the relative sockets must be connected to earth according
to the current regulations on electrical systems.
Before connecting to external instruments (Host, PC, external
barcode reader), which must always be carried out with the
instrument switched off, it is necessary to verify compatibility (see the
relative user manuals)
The operators must be trained so that they have knowledge of the
procedures, prohibitions and warnings indicated in this manual as
well as those related to safety in the workplace.
The operator safety material (gloves, containers for disposal of the
consumables used, cleaning and disinfecting solutions for cleaning
and disinfecting the instrument) must always be available.
The instrument must be positioned in compliance with the
provisions indicated in paragraph 5
It is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to remove or modify the safety and
protection devices of the instrument.
INSTALLATION must be carried out by an installation technician
authorised by Diesse Diagnostica Senese S.p.A. as stated in the
Installation Report. Refer to the Installation Guide.
4UNPACKING
Given the size and weight of the device, any movement of the instrument has
to be executed by at least two people.
During the movement of the device, avoid jarring and excessive inclination that
could damage the instrument.
To unpack, proceed as follows:
1) Remove the quick couplings from the lid of the box using a plier or other tools.
There are two quick couplings for each side of the lid.
Then, remove the quick couplings from the lower cover as well.

•Remove the lid. The inside of the box appears as shown in the figure below.
In addition to the machine, covered with scratch-resistant film, the following accessories
are located inside the box:
-2 guides (to be installed in the loading compartment once the machine is placed
on the bench and the corresponding blocks have been removed)

•With a 6mm and 8mm hexagonal screwdriver (Allen), unscrew respectively the 4
and 2 screws of the 2 side brackets and remove them completely.
•For each of the two holes in the black side bars which are installed under the two
green bottom shells of the instrument, screw the handles tubular element as
shown in the figure.
5PLACEMENT
The intended working environment for this instrument is an analysis laboratory.
For normal safety requirements and given the type of analysis the instrument performs,
it must be positioned away from heat sources, in areas not accessible to liquids, in dust-
free environments and on perfectly level work benches not subject to shock or vibration.
VES-MATIC 5 complies with the directives regarding electromagnetic emissions,
however it is advisable, where possible, to position the VES-MATIC 5 away from devices
that generate electromagnetic waves (e.g. laboratory refrigerators, centrifuges) and
instruments that do not have the CE marking, as these could occasionally interfere with
the instrument’s operation.

It is advisable to use a table with a capacity suitable for the weight of the instrument,
with a height of not more than 80 cm, in order to guarantee that the operator has an
ergonomically correct position when entering the commands on the Touch Panel and
introducing and extracting the sample racks.
In addition, in order to access the connectors located on the rear of the instrument and,
above all, in order to be able to act promptly on the switch and on the power cable in
the event of danger, it is necessary to maintain, on the rear of the instrument and on the
right side, the safety distance of 20 cm from other objects or from the rear wall.
For the same reason, it is strictly forbidden to place any material on the instrument.
Choose a position close to an electrical socket free from disturbances and power surges.
Please note: Two people are always needed to lift the VES-MATIC 5.
1. With both hands, grasp the handles inserted in the side bars, one for each
hand, and lift the instrument.
Place it on the bench as described above or on a transport trolley (if requested,
as depicted in the figure below).
The trolley is packed separately from the VES-MATIC 5 and its assembly
instructions are contained inside the box.
The trolley packaging specifications are described in the table below.

2. Once the instrument has been positioned in its final position, unscrew the
tubular handles and remove them from the side bars.
3. Remove the adhesive plastic cover from the instrument.
Never move the instrument during operation. If the instrument need
to be moved, it is obligatory to recheck the conditions listed in this
paragraph before starting to use it again. If the instrument is not to
be used for a certain period of time, it is advisable to disconnect it
from the mains and to protect it from dust.
To move the instrument, always install the supplied handles.
6INSTALLATION
6.1 Removing locks
The machine is equipped with locks that must be removed before commissioning.
Proceed as follows:
a) Open the front load compartment door
b) Lift the touch screen display upwards, taking care to pull downwards and release
the catch located on the left (small red L-shaped bracket)
c) Remove the lock located on the loading compartment floor of the machine by
unscrewing the two screws (2.5mm Allen key) and pulling it upward. Also unscrew
the other two screws located on the same guides.
d) Use the 4 screws for the installation of the two guides that are provided as
accessories.
When handling the device, avoid excessive bumps and inclinations
which could damage the instrument.

e) Remove the rubber tube that protects the Z axis.
Then, using a 2.5mm Allen key, remove the red block stopping the clamp by
unscrewing its 4 screws.

f) Finally, using again a 2.5mm Allen key, remove the lock stopping the Y-axis on the
X-axis by unscrewing its 2 screws (See figure below)
The instrument is ready for commissioning.
6.2 Commissioning the instrument
1) Make sure that the power switch is in the OFF « 0 » position before continuing.
2) Before connecting the instrument to the mains, make sure that the mains voltage
is compatible with what is specified on the serial label on the back of the
instrument.
3) Connect the power cord socket (use the power cable supplied with the
instrument) to the plug located on the right side of the main power switch (as
shown in the Figure below). Connect the power cord plug to the mains socket.
4) Connect the host cable directly to the DB9 Female “RS-232” connector on the rear
panel (see Figure below)

If the VES-MATIC 5 installation is performed to replace an existing Ves-Matic Cube
200, the Cube 200 host cable will be used on the VES-MATIC 5.
Since Cube 200 has a DB9 Male Host connector while VES-MATIC 5 has a DB9 Female
connector, that reflexes inverted pin-outs, the 2 host cable adaptors provided as
accessories must be used.
In order to make the Cube 200 host cable compatible with the VES-MATIC 5, proceed
as follow:
1) Connect the DB9 M-F adaptor to the DB9 Female “RS-232” connector on the rear
panel of the instrument
2) Connect the DB9 M-M adaptor to the DB9 M-F adaptor and tighten them
together by screwing the two lateral hexagonal screw
3) Connect the Cube 200 host cable to the DB9 M-M adaptor
The final configuration of the two adaptors applied on the Cube 200 host cable is
shown in the Figure below.

4) Connect the external barcode reader to the USB host dual port on the rear panel
(see Figure below)
The instrument is ready to be switched on.
6.3 Personal protection equipment (PPE)
Normal use of the machine does not require the investigator to come into contact with
human samples.
However, it is necessary for the operator to wear personal protective equipment in
accordance with the laws of his/her country, but which consists of at least:
•Gloves
•Protective goggles
•Lab coat

7VES-MATIC 5 MODELS
7.1 Compatibility with blood cell counter racks
The VES-MATIC 5 is currently produced in a single model that can ensure compatibility
with different types of blood cell counter racks present in the various laboratories.
The current supported rack models are as follow:
Rack for SYSMEX/MINDRAY/HORIBA blood cell counter
Rack for ADVIA/SIEMENS blood cell counter
Rack for BECKMAN COULTER blood cell counter
Rack for BECKMAN COULTER (5 positions) blood cell counter
These models consist of a base unit which is the same for all the versions, called VES-
MATIC 5 (CODE 30007231) and a specific kit for the type of rack used with the instrument:
