SECTION 1: MOST COMMON
CONFIGURATIONSAND
DESCRIPTIONS
Cutler-Hammer offers a full line of different
types of chassis and configurations for
Pow-R-Command 100 applications. Most
common configurations are described
below.
1-1 POW-R-COMMAND PANELBOARD
Pow-R-Command 100 Panelboard can come
in two main configurations:
1) Panelboard with 5X-Controller
Chassis (see Fig. 1-1). The 5X-Controller
Chassis contains the Universal Systems
Controller (USC) allowing the user to
control the GHBS or BABR breakers
using the time schedules or the console.
Panelboard with 5X-Controller Chassis
and 7X-Expansion Chassis
(see Fig. 1-2).
2) Combining the 5X Controller Chassis, the
7X Expansion Chassis accommodates
one of the Application Specific Control-
lers which expand the panels capabili-
ties.
For low-voltage device termination, please
refer to SECTION 3 Subsection 3-1.
Panelboards can operate as stand-alone or
be a part of network system. For network
termination, please refer to SECTION 5.

1-2 EXPANSION / CONTROL CABINET
An Expansion Cabinet is mounted exter-
nally, and in close proximity to a panelboard
containing GHBS or BABR breakers. The
expansion cabinet is used in conjunction
with a smart panelboard. In these condi-
tions, the Expansion Cabinet is linked to the
panelboard using the network. For the
termination of the Network, please refer to
SECTION5.
A Control Cabinet provides control
capabilities to a standard panelboard
equipped with remote controlled breakers
(Panelboard without the 5X-Controller
Chassis). This configuration, includes the
USC (control board) mounted in an
Expansion Cabinet. The remote controlled
breakers are then controlled remotely, using
pigtails between the Expansion / Control
Cabinet and remote controlled breakers
mounted in the panel. For low-voltage
device termination, please refer to SECTION
3 Subsection 3-2. For remote controlled
breaker termination, please refer to
SECTION 3 Subsection 3-3.
1-3 RELAYPANEL
A Relay Panel is an another option for
controlling circuits with noncontrollable
breakers. The USC Control Card, as well as
Application Specific Controller cards, can
be installed in the Relay panel. The Relay
Panel can operate as stand-alone or be a
part of the network system. For Network
termination, please refer to SECTION 5. For
low-voltage device termination, please
refer to SECTION 3 Subsection 3-2.

SECTION2: POWER SUPPLY
TERMINATION
2-1 PANELBOARD
Panelboards are shipped with the
Controller’s Chassis power supply for the
electronics terminated to the correct
voltage. There is no need for the personnel
installing the panel to supply connections to
the power supply of the 5X-Controller
Chassis or 7X-Expansion Chassis. Please
verify that the panels supply voltage
matches the voltages specified on the label
of the panel. On the left side of the 5X-
Controller Chassis find the wires feeding
primary side of the power supply. If wire is
not used for the application, it should
contain isolating cap. Wires are color coded
as follows:
-RED 120VAC
- YELLOW 277VAC
-BROWN NEUTRAL
-GREEN GROUND

CABINET
The personnel installing the Relay Panel or the
Expansion/Control Cabinet are responsible for
providing and terminating the power wires to
these panels.
If the trim is installed, remove the trim (for the
Expansion/Control Cabinet, remove the door
and the power supply cover). There are two
terminal sets on the power supply. The right
side of the power supply is marked “Trans-
former Tap 120/277VAC” and the left side is
marked “Line Power 120/277VAC”.
On the Transformer Tap terminal, verify the
correct jumper position for the voltage that
you will be connecting to the panel. Move the
jumper if necessary. The correct jumper
positions are:
- 277 to COM for 277VAC
- 120 to COM for 120VAC.
Note: All units are generally shipped with the
jumper strapped for 277VAC. However, be
sure to verify this setting. Applying 277VAC to
the unit set for 120VAC may damage the unit.
On the Line Power terminal, connect
ground wire to the terminal marked:
“GND”. Connect neutral wire to the
terminal marked: “LO”. Connect hot
wire to the terminal marked: “HI”. For
power connections use a minimum #12
AWG copper wire.

SECTION3:LOW-VOLTAGE DEVICE
TERMINATION
All open areas in the panels are considered
as low-voltage/class-2 termination areas.
No voltages above 28VAC are permitted in
this area. Inputs are designed so that only
dry contact devices are accepted.
NO EXTERNAL VOLTAGES SHOULD BE
APPLIED TO THE LOW-VOLTAGE
TERMINAL BLOCKS. ALL NECESSARY
POWER IS PROVIDED BY THE PANEL.
Low-voltage devices should be terminated
using a minimum #22AWG twisted pair
wire. Shielding is generally not required.
Low-voltage device cables should not be
located in the same conduit with the high-
voltage load wires. Be sure the wire type
you use is rated properly, especially for
plenum or hazardous applications.
3-1 PANELBOARD
In most cases, Application Specific Cards
will be located in the 7X Expansion Chassis
installed in the panel. Power supply and
Network connections will be provided in the
factory.
In rare case of the 7X-Expansion Chassis
located externally to the panel, the network
cable and the power supply cable should
be installed between the panel and the 7X-
Expansion Chassis. For Network termina-
tion, please refer to SECTION 5.
The personnel installing the panel are
responsible for providing and termination
wiring of all external low-voltage devices.
Use knockouts provided on the bottom and
sides of the chassis to enter the low-
voltage termination area.
All low-voltage (dry closure) devices
should be terminated on the 7X board
terminal blocks TB1, TB2, and TB3. Terminal
blocks TB1 and TB3 are designated
locations for inputs from low-voltage
devices—numbered respectively 1-24 and
25-48. Terminal block TB2 is a COMMON
(ground) terminal for all low-voltage
devices terminated in the panel.

CABINET
The Relay Panel and Expansion / Control
Cabinet use the same Relay Termination
Board for low-voltage (dry-contact) device
termination.
A Relay Panel is used to control loads
down-line from a breaker panel not
equipped with controllable breakers. A
Relay Panel is shipped from the factory
with the low-voltage side of the relays
terminated to the Relay Termination Board.
Personnel installing the Relay Panel are
responsible for providing and terminating
wires to load side of the relays. Maximum
wire size accepted by the relay terminals is
#10AWG.
An Expansion / Control Cabinet is installed
externally to a breaker panel. The person-
nel installing the above mentioned devices
are responsible for providing termination of
the power supply, network, and all external
low-voltage devices. For power supply
termination, please refer to SECTION 2
Subsection 2-2. For network termination,
please refer to SECTION 5.
Use bottom of the previously described
enclosure types to attach conduit and
provide access to the low-voltage
termination area.
Panels using Expansion Cabinet might or
might not contain 5X-Controller Chassis. For
panels with a 5X-Controller Chassis, the
Expansion Cabinet is used for Application
Specific Controllers only. Only low-voltage
devices and network are terminated in the
Expansion Cabinet. For panels not
containing the 5X-Controller Chassis the
additional step of terminating the remote
controlled breakers to the Control Cabinet
Relay Termination Board is required. For
remote controlled breaker termination,
please refer to SECTION 3 Subsection 3-3.
All low-voltage devices should be termi-
nated on the Relay Panel, Expansion /
Control Cabinet board terminal blocks TB3,
TB4, and TB5. Terminal blocks TB3 and TB5
are designated locations for inputs from
low-voltage devices—numbered respec-
tively 1-24 and 25-48. Terminal block TB4 is
a COMMON (ground) terminal for all low-
voltage devices terminated in the panel.

3-3 CONTROLLABLE BREAKER REMOTE
TERMINATION
For panels without a 5X-Controller Chassis,
a Control Cabinet must be used. In addition
to low-voltage device termination, connec-
tions to the GHBS, BABR, BABRS, or
GHQRS breakers in the panel should be
made using pigtails.

On the Control Cabinet side, pigtails are
connected to the Relay Termination Board
using four pin AMP type connectors. The
connectors are numbered 1-24 on the left
side of the board, and 25-48 on the right
side of the board (see Fig. 3-3).
On the Panel side, the pigtails are connected
to the low-voltage connectors on the back
of the GHBS breakers using a three pin AMP
type connector (see Fig. 3-4) or the pigtail
four pin connector on the BABR, BABRS,
and GHQRS breakers.
The length of the pigtail should not exceed
50’ for #22 AWG stranded wire for single
pole breaker. For double pole remote
controlled breakers and longer distances,
higher gauge wire is recommended. Please
verify that the wire type used for pigtails is
rated properly.

CARDSTERMINATION
4-1 UNIVERSAL SYSTEM CONTROLLER
The Universal Systems Controller (USC)
handles direct breaker control and status.
In addition to controlling breakers, the USC
has low voltage inputs and outputs which
can be used for switches, pilot lights,
photocells, dimmer ballasts, or other
external devices. The GHBS / BABRS
jumper is used to identify if the USC is
controlling GHBS/ BABR type breakers or
BABRS/GHQRS type breakers.
4-2 Switch Override Controller
The Switch Override Controller (SOC) is an
Application Specific Controller accepting
dry-contact closures as input. The SOC
can be installed in the 7X-Expansion
Chassis or in the bottom position of an
Expansion/Control Cabinet. The SOC will
accept only dry-contact closure devices
(i.e. switches, occupancy sensors,
Building Management System relay, etc.).
Contact closure is processed by the SOC
card, resulting in state control of the load
Relays / Breakers. Action of the devices
terminated for SOC card will not have any
effect on the system operation until the
system is correctly programmed. Program-
ming of the system must be performed by
qualified start-up personnel.
The personnel installing the panel with the
SOC card are responsible for providing and
terminating wires for low-voltage devices.

SOC card, please refer to SECTION 3.

4-3 UNIVERSAL I/O MODULE
The Universal I/O Model provides general
purpose low voltage inputs and outputs for
special control situations. The Universal I/O
Module is mounted either in an external box
or in an expansion chassis on a special
carrier board. In addition to the general
purpose inputs and outputs of other
controllers, the Universal I/O Module has
either 4 or 8 low voltage digital outputs that
can be used with 24VAC relays or
contactors.
4-4 LOW VOLTAGE INPUTS AND
OUTPUTS
Each USC, SOC and Universal I/O Module
has a number of low voltage inputs and
outputs. These general purpose inputs and
outputs can be used for a variety of
applications like override switches with
pilot lights, dimming ballast control,
photocell, photosensors for daylight
harvesting, rheostats, occupancy sensors,
temperature sensors, relative humidity
sensors, water meters, counters, relay or
contactor control, and interfaces to other
control systems like security or building
control. In addition to the input / output
points, the controllers also have an
auxiliary 15VDC power source (100 mA)
for powering external devices. The 24VAC
used to power controllers can also be used
for powering external devices.
Although each controller may differ in the
number of low voltage control points and
the location of the connectors, there are
four basic types of control points. The
actual function of the points is defined in
the set up of the controller during the
factory start-up process.
1) Universal inputs – These input points
can be defined as digital input points or
as analog input points. If used as a digital
input point, a dry contact should be
placed between the input point and the
common point on the connector (The
wetting voltage is 5VDC). The input can
be defined at start up in a variety of
maintained and momentary contact
configurations. If used as an analog input
point, the input is a 0-5VDC input. With a
resister, between the point and ground,
the input could be 0-20mA or 0-10VDC.
The input can also be connected directly
to a 10K temperature thermistor. The
input is defined at start up for the desired
function and conversion to engineering
units.

2) Digital inputs – These inputs are
always used for digital inputs points. A
dry-contact is placed between the input
point and the common on the connector
(The wetting voltage is approximately
24VDC). Digital inputs may be connected
through terminal on the 7X chassis to an
SOC. Some application specific control-
lers also have auxiliary digital inputs on
the controller low voltage connectors.
The input can be defined at start up as a
variety of maintained and momentary
contact configurations. One special use
for these inputs is a counter function.
This function can be used for a variety
of metering of utilities such as gas and
water. It can also be used for a cycle
count for the number of times a freezer
door is opened or the number of
customers entering doors in a retail
facility.

3) Analog outputs – These points can
be used for either digital or analog
control. The output is 0-20mA source to
the common on the connector. A resistor
between the output and the common
converts the output to 0-5VDC or
0-10VDC. When used as a digital output,
the output switches between 0 and
20mA. The digital output could be used
for a pilot lamp or LED. With an external
sensitive pilot relay (12VDC coil at less
than 20mA), the digital output could be
used to drive a control relay or contactor.
The output is defined at start up for the
desired function and conversion to
engineering units.
4) Digital outputs – These points on the
application specific controller provide for
low voltage digital control for external
relays or contactors. The application
specific controller may be ordered with
either pilot relay or triac outputs. The
triac output version switches 24VAC
while the pilot relay version can switch
24VDC or 24VAC. The outputs are
defined at start-up as normally open or
closed and maintained or pulsed. The
pilot lamp digital outputs on an SOC
controller provide a 24VDC (half-wave
rectified) signal intended for driving
switch pilot lamps.

Examples
The following application examples
represent connecting real equipment to the
PRC100 controllers. References to
Manufacturers and their part numbers are
for reference only and in no way imply sole
usage. Use these examples as guides for
design, layout and specifying components.
Examples, as shown, require
corresponding parameters be entered into
the respective controllers database before
operation can be realized.

APPLICATION EXAMPLE 1: SOC SWITCH
INPUTS
The following are examples of low-voltage
switch terminations to the Control Cabinet
and Panelboard Expansion Chassis.
There are three different switches and
three different methods of termination to the
controller terminals. The SPST Switch is a
typical wall switch where moving the
switch UP will cause a closure. This switch
is wired across a Switch Common and any
of the 48 Switch Input terminals.
The SPDT Center Off example shows two
wiring schemes. Either will offer the same
functionality they are presented for
purposes of personal preference. The
Over-Under example keeps the switches in
the same relative position across the
terminal strip. The upper (1-24) positions
represent the UP or ON action while the
lower represent the DOWN or OFF action.
Similarly the poles can be wired adjacent to
each other. In this case the lower number
represents the DOWN (lower position) or
OFF action while the higher number
represents the UP or TOP action.

Each switch has accompanying control
definition parameters. While these param-
eters will provide function, they should not
be considered absolute. The assumption in
these examples is that each switch gang
acts to turn a point on and off. The two
position push-button switch demonstrates
how two controls can be used to accom-
plish the same function as one Momentary
(3-wire) control and could be easily
programmed as such.

APPLICATION EXAMPLE 2: FIELD
TERMINATING DEVICES DIRECTLYTO
CONTROLLERS
The following examples show how
switches can be connected directly to a
controller. This is often desirable when
fewer than 12 switches are required.
The three position push-button switch, in
this example, contains pilot lights in each
position. As wired (directly across the 15
Volt supply) the pilot lights will always be

on. The dotted lines imply that the pilot lights
are wired together inside the wall-box. As
shown there are NO current limiting
resistors as the specified switch has
internal current limiting. Also of interest is
that all the pilots and switches share a
single common. These can be combined in
the wall-box to reduce the number of
conductors required to pull.
The SOC has the same inputs as described
above for the USC. The differences being
the connectors are located along the left
edge of the controller.
SPECIAL NOTE: Notice that the momentary
switch is wired to ANALOG IN #1 (UI1).
This is because maintained closures during
power-up will force the controller into a
special override mode. SIMPLE RULE: When
connecting switches to analog inputs –
never use maintained contacts on Analog
Input #1, especially if there is a chance that
the contact will be closed during controller
power-up.

Application Example 3: Touchplate
Switch Application Notes
The preceding illustration shows the
Switch Pilots sharing a common connection
to power and common. This wiring scheme
shown results in three Pilots being
continuously illuminated without regard to
switch, or load, state. If the Pilot is desired
to be an “active” component of the control
system, one Pilot (LED) could be wired to
one Analog Output. Setting the Analog
Output to 100% would cause the LED to
illuminate while a setting of 0% would
extinguish the LED.
Wiring the Pilot’s as described in this note
would allow for two modes of operation.
The Pilot could act as feedback showing
the resulting state of a remote load. In other
words when the load is switched on the
LED is on, when the load is off, the LED is
off.
Optionally this could be inverted to provide
location of the switch in a darkened room.
When the lights are off, one or more LED’s
can be illuminated to aid in locating the
switch. When the lights are turned on, the
LED is extinguished.
The Control Definition for positive feedback
would be:

For night-light operation the OTHER

APPLICATION EXAMPLE 4: CONNECTING
ENVIRONMENTAL SENSORS DIRECTLY
TO CONTROLLERS
Environmental sensors can be used by the
PRC100 system to provide limited security,
health and comfort control. By utilizing
temperature and humidity sensors equip-
ment can be protected from environmental
extremes. Additionally a CO2Sensor can be
used to monitor unsafe levels and in turn
control ventilators.
Fire, Security, or other dry-contact
The above illustrates connecting environ-
mental sensors directly to an SOC. It should
be noted that these connections could also
be made to the USC with the difference
being the location of the connectors.
The CO2Sensor shows all modes con-
nected. This sensor could provide direct
analog input (through the 250 Ohm resistor)
and can also provide closures determined
by an on-board threshold adjustment. While
it is not necessary to make all connections
they are shown here for an example.
Additional parameters are required for all
three sensors to condition the inputs to
usable values (type conversion). It is
absolutely necessary to provide the
sensor’s output characteristics to the
Cutler-Hammer engineer prior to start-up of
these devices.

APPLICATION EXAMPLE 5: DIMMING
APPLICATIONS WITH THE SOC
All the PRC100 Controllers have similar
capabilities for input, output and functions.
The following application will demonstrate
connections for both manual and automatic
dimming of florescent fixtures.
The figure shows the major components
required for manual and automatic dimming
control. These components are shown
attached to the SOC but the same control
can be applied to the USC and other ASC’s.
Certain parameters must be entered into the
system to compensate for the different
characteristics of the devices. For example
the PLC photo sensors have different FC
ranges but all have 1 to 5 Volt signals. The
conversion to percent or units would be
determined at the time of start-up. With the
connections shown here control strategies
such as Lumen Maintenance, Daylight
Harvesting, and manual control as well as
manual control to a variable set point can
be accomplished through programming the
controller database. It is imperative that the
sensor type associated with each input be
provided to the Cutler-Hammer engineer for
proper start-up and operation of the
dimming controls.
PLCMULTIPOINT®SENSORNOTES.
The CES series of sensors have different
input ranges but are normalized to a 1 to 5
volt output. While these relationships are
adjustable at the sensor it is probably better
to make any adjustment using the control-
lers built-in type definitions. The CES Series
sensors are supplied from the factory with
the following calibrated ranges.
CES®/I 0 to 100 FC = 1 to 5 V
CES/O 0 to 250 FC = 1 to 5 V
CES/A 2 to 1000 FC = 1 to 5 V
CES/S 10 to 2000 FC = 1 to 5 V
The adjustable Maximums for these
sensors are:
CES/I 5 to 750 FC
CES/O 5 to 750 FC
CES/A 200 to 2500 FC
CES/S 1000 to 7500 FC

The LED provided in this switch is hard-
wired internally as a night-light. This switch
is intended for connection to a 120 V AC
circuit and thus it uses a small amount of
leakage to illuminate the LED when the lights
are off. When using this device with a PRC
controller it is limited to where it can be
connected. Connecting this device to any of
the DIGITAL INPUTS (DI 9, 10, 11, 12) will
cause improper operation of the input due to
this leakage. The Digital Inputs provide
sufficient whetting voltage to cause the LED
to conduct and thus the circuit will never
open. For this reason the Leviton switch will
only function when connected to the
Universal Inputs (Analog Inputs 1 – 8) or
wired to the Control Cabinet, Expansion
Chassis or Relay Panel switch termination
blocks. In either case the LED will not
illuminate and is unusable for this
application.

SWITCH CM SERIES OCCUPANCY
SENSOR AND MANUAL DIMMING
This schematic presents two additional
lighting control applications. The Occu-
pancy Sensor (OS) is intended to provide
automatic on/off control while the push-
button-pair allows for manual dimming.
When wired as shown, the control
definitions are as follows:

Each press of the top push-button will
increase the light level by 5%. Similarly the
lower push-button will decrease the level.
The Occupancy sensor would have the
load controlling the 120VAC to the light
fixtures as its control output. The switches
control dimming and the sensor controls on/
off. There are many alternatives to this
scheme. On/Off control could be handled
by another control and the OS eliminated.
Using a lower limit for acceptable lighting an
“Analog Compare” control could monitor the
output and automatically switch the lights
off when dimmed below a certain level.
OFADDITIONALINTEREST:Thisexample
forgoes the use of the Dimming Cable (HIS
016-4092). The Analog Output of the
controller has sufficient drive for up to two
(2) Electronic Dimming Ballasts. If more than
two ballasts need to be attached to one
output, it is highly recommended to use the
DimmingCable.
It is necessary to place a 500-Ohm resistor
across the Gray and Violet ballast wires to
change the controller output from 0 to 20
mA to 0 to 10 V output.

APPLICATION EXAMPLE 6: OCCUPANCY
SENSORUSE GUIDELINES
Note: Many occupancy sensors, including
some Sensor Switch models, do not have
dry contacts integral to the sensor unit.
These devices typically use a remote
power pack with integral relay and timer
and are intended for direct control of load
voltages. These sensors can still be used
with the PRC100 by wiring the load relay
contacts to switch inputs as shown in the
following schematic.
Nearly all occupancy sensors have integral
delay timers. These timers delay (keep the
lights on) for an adjustable period of time
AFTER sensing no activity. For best results
with lighting control systems it is recom-
mended that this delay be set to minimum
and any delay time be programmed into the
PRC100 controller.
OF SPECIAL NOTE: If occupancy sensors
AND time schedules are controlling the
same load or group of lights it is strongly
recommended that the two functions NOT
point to the same output point to avoid
operational conflicts. Instead combine the
two outputs to control the load or group.
Note: This can be done with additional
controls or simply by using one to ENABLE
the other depending on precedence.
