Branchement du casque
Chaque extrémité du câble possède un indicateur ("L" pour gauche et "R" pour droite)
(fig. 2), veillez à bien le respecter lorsque vous branchez le câble aux entrées "L" et "R"
de votre casque indiquées à l’intérieur de l’arceau (fig. 1).
Remarque : les connecteurs de câble ne peuvent être insérés dans la prise du casque
que dans un seul sens (fig. 2).
Connecting the headphones
Each end of the cable is labelled with either an "L" for left, or an "R" for right (fig.2). Make
sure you connect each end of the cable to the correct headphone inputs which are also
labelled "L" and "R" inside the headband (fig.1).
Note: cable connectors can be plugged into the headphones in one sense only (fig.2)
Amplification
Pour profiter au mieux des qualités sonores du casque Utopia, nous vous conseillons
de vous équiper d’un amplificateur / DAC spécifique (Type DAC V1 de Naim) (fig. 3).
Reliez le casque à l’amplificateur grâce au connecteur jack 6,35 mm.
Amplification
To get the best sound quality out of your Utopia headphones, we recommend equipping
yourself with a specific amplifier/DAC (such as Naim’s DAC V1) (fig.3). Connect the
headphones to the amplifier using the 1/4" (6.35mm) jack.
Rangement
Vous pouvez ranger le casque avec les câbles connectés dans la boîte de rangement.
Si vous désirez déconnecter les câbles, tenez les connecteurs par le "grip" (fig. 2)
pour débloquer la sécurité et placez les deux pièces dans les emplacements prévus à
l’intérieur de la boîte de rangement.
Storage
You can place your headphones with the cable plugged in into its case. If you want to
disconnect the cable from the headphones, hold the ends of the cable by the "grip"
(fig.2) to unlock the security. Then place the separate components in their relative
compartments in the case.
Soin et entretien
Il est préférable de nettoyer régulièrement votre casque pour éviter tout risque d’usure.
Pour cela, nous vous recommandons d’utiliser un chiffon propre, sec et non pelucheux.
Il peut arriver, après de nombreuses utilisations, que les coussinets montrent des
marques d’usure. Dans ce cas, si vous le désirez, il est possible de les remplacer.
Rapprochez-vous de votre revendeur afin de vous en procurer des nouveaux. Il vous
suffit ensuite de déclipser la paire usagée en tirant et de repositionner la nouvelle sur
les oreillettes. (fig. 4)
Care and maintenance
It is advisable to clean your headphones regularly to limit wear and tear. To do so, we
recommend using a clean, dry lint-free cloth. After a lot of use, wear marks may be visible
on the ear cushions. In this case, if you wish to, the ear cushions can be replaced. Ask
your local Focal retailer for replacement parts.The ear cushions are easy to unclip, by
pulling them, and to clip back into place by pushing them back onto the ear-pieces. (fig.4)

Operating Instructions
We recommend thoroughly reading all the instructions in this manual, and that you keep it somewhere
safe for future reference.
Important safety precautions
1) READ these instructions.
2) KEEP these instructions.
3) RESPECT all the warnings.
4) FOLLOW all the instructions.
5) In order to avoid damaging your hearing, do not listen to headphones at high volumes for extended
periods of time.
Listening to a portable stereo at high volumes can cause damage to the user’s ears and may lead to
hearing problems (temporary or permanent deafness, buzzing in the ears, tinnitus, hyperacusis).
It is strongly advised not to listen to a portable stereo at full volume or for more than one hour per
day at an average volume.
Don’t use the headphones continuously, take frequent breaks. Pay particular attention to children and
teenagers who use these devices at a younger age and often at excessive volume.
6) If you begin to hear buzzing or ringing in the ears (tinnitus), experience a loss of hearing or
‘mued’ hearing, stop using the headphones immediately. If the symptoms continue after a few
hours, consult an ENT doctor immediately. In some cases, immediate treatment may avoid permanent
hearing problems.
Exposure to excessive volumes (over 85dB) for more than one hour can cause irreparable damage
to your hearing.
7) Set the volume to minimum before connecting your Focal headphones, then turn up the volume.
Once the headphones are in place, gradually increase the volume to a comfortable and reasonable
level. Always use the headphones with the protective ear cushions or tips.
8) NEVER drive a vehicle (car, motorbike, boat...) or ride a bike while wearing the
headphones. Not only is this behaviour dangerous, it is also illegal. In some countries, a
breach of the highway code for driving without due care and attention (if the driver’s
concentration is reduced in any way) may result in a penalty.
We advise against wearing the headphones while riding a bike, running, walking or
carrying out any other activities in busy places. If you do wear the headphones in such places,set to a
low volume so you can hear surrounding noises, including horns, alarms and warning signals.
Generally speaking, reducing your chances of hearing surrounding noises poses a threat to yourself
and to others.

9) NEVER use the headphones as ear defenders.
10) If you feel the headphones heat up or if there is a loss of the audio signal, remove the headphones
and disconnect immediately.
11) Never place the headphones in contact with or near to naked flames such as candles, lighters, etc.
12) Never leave your headphones exposed to humidity and never submerge them in water.
13) The headphones do not require any particular cleaning. If necessary, clean with a dry, soft duster.
Do not use cleaning products containing solvents.
14) Entrust any repairs or maintenance to a qualified professional. Repair or maintenance may be
required in case of any kind of damage (spillages, damaged cable, exposure to rain, if the device is
dropped etc.).
Do not make any modifications to the system or to the accessories. Any unauthorised modifications
may put you in danger, be illegal or reduce the performance of the device.
This device contains the products listed in the table, and may pose a risk of:
• suocation (do not give the device to children less than 3 years of age);
• fire or electrocution (do not expose the device to rain or moisture, or any other liquid).
This product contains magnetic components and generates a magnetic field which may cause
interference with pacemakers or implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. Consult your doctor
if you have any questions about the eect these components may have on an implanted
medical device.
This product conforms with all applicable European regulations and directives.
This symbol means that the product (including the battery if applicable) must never be
disposed of with household waste. It must be disposed of at an appropriate recycling container centre.
Correct disposal or recycling of products helps to protect natural resources, human health and the
envrionment. For more information on how to dispose of or recycle this product, contact your local
council, waste collection service or the point of sale where it was purchased.

Utopia are the reference pair of headphones from Focal. As a world first, it features the only full-range and fully open-
back loudspeaker, built within a pair of headphones, using pure Beryllium formed in the brand new 'M' shape dome. The
acoustic quality of this exclusive solution allowed Focal to avoid the use of any crossover or passive filtering process to
achieve a frequency response from 5Hz to 50kHz! The listening experience is outstanding in terms of realism, natural sound
reproduction, dynamics and clarity. When listening to them, the headphones virtually disappear and the audio signal is
revealed with a level of precision never achieved until Utopia. Design is also a key point, be it in regards to the way of using
the headphones, comfort, as well as the aesthetic. The true lambskin leather, used on the cushions, reinforces the character of
classically elegant lines, as well as the expression of comfort and overall performances.

2. Precautions for use
The following precautions for use must be scrupulously followed.
2.2. The beryllium dome must never come into contact with abrasive materials
At room temperature, beryllium is a stable product; however it does react with sulphuric acid, hydrochloric
acid and hydrofluoric acid to release hydrogen.
Conditions to avoid:high temperatures, sparks, naked flames or other ignition sources. Beryllium is not
compatible with oxidising agents and also particularly bromine pentafluoride and performic acid. It will
explode when heated with magnesium.
In its finely divided form, beryllium is a moderately flammable product. In a confined space, a cloud of
metal dust can explode in the presence of an ignition source. In the event of a fire, beryllium emits smoke
and highly toxic fumes.
In the event of a fire, the extinguishing agents which are stipulated are special powders for metal fires
or if these are unavailable, other inert powders. It is also advisable to wear adequate personal protection
to prevent contact with the substance or its combustion products as well as an integral self-contained
respirator with pressure regulator or which is pressurised.
2.3. As a general rule, contact with skin or eyes, inhalation or ingestion of all or part of the beryllium dome
should be avoided. The manufacturer stresses that the absorption of beryllium through the respiratory,
cutaneous or digestive tract may cause severe physical disturbances.
3. Instructions in case of damage to the dome
If the beryllium dome is damaged in any way, it should be covered as soon as possible. We recommend
that you contact the retailer to have the tweeter dismantled and replaced by trained personnel at the
distributor.
If the dome is broken, any beryllium particles should be carefully collected and then placed in a hermetically
sealed plastic bag. It should be sent back to the retailer at the same time as the speaker.
4. First aid
In case of inhalation: If beryllium or beryllium dust is inhaled, bring the affected person outside or to an
aerated place and put them in a semi-seated position so that they can breathe comfortably. If the person
is not breathing, administer artificial respiration. In case of respiratory difficulties, give the person oxygen.
Transfer the person to the nearest medical services or call an anti-poison centre.
In case of contact with the eyes: Rinse immediately using plenty of water for 15 minutes or until all of the
product has been removed. Remove contact lenses if the person in question is wearing them and if they
can be removed easily. We recommend that you contact a doctor.
2.1. The tweeters contain a beryllium dome and must therefore be handled with caution.
Users of the speakers must particularly ensure that the grille or all other protective parts of the
tweeter are cared for and the beryllium must under no circumstances be removed from its original
location.
As a general rule, speakers must be kept out of the reach of children and specifically access to the
tweeter and to the beryllium dome must be prevented.

In case of contact with skin: Remove any contaminated clothes and shoes quickly; throw away clothes
and shoes. Wash the skin with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Clean any cuts and injuries quickly
and carefully. Any particles of beryllium which have accidentally become lodged underneath the skin must
be removed. Consult a doctor.
In case of ingestion: If the victim is conscious, rinse out their mouth with water and ask them to drink
several glasses of water for dilution purposes. Seek medical assistance immediately. Never give liquids to
a person who is unconscious or having convulsions. Vomiting should only be induced on the orders of a
doctor or an anti-poison centre. Consult a doctor rapidly.
5. At the end of the speaker’s service life
This Focal product has been designed and manufactured using high-quality components which can be
recycled and reused.
This symbol means that electrical and electronic devices, when they come to the end of their
service life, must be disposed of separately from household waste.
This device must not be disposed of in nature or with household waste. Please return it to the waste
disposal facility or recycling centre.
