2 Safety informaon and use
2.1 Requirements for the user
This operang manual is intended for persons assigned with operang
and monitoring the Fritsch PULVERISETTE 6. The operang manual and
especially its safety instrucons are to be observed by all persons
working on or with this device. In addion, the applicable rules and regu-
laons for accident prevenon at the installaon site are to be observed.
Always keep the operang manual at the installaon site of the PULVERI-
SETTE 6.
People with health problems or under the inuence of medicaon,
drugs, alcohol or exhauson must not operate this device.
The PULVERISETTE 6 may only be operated by authorised persons and
serviced or repaired by trained specialists. All commissioning, mainte-
nance and repair work may only be carried out by technically qualied
personnel. Qualied personnel are persons who, because of their educa-
on, experience and training as well as their knowledge of relevant
standards, regulaons, accident prevenon guidelines and operang
condions, are authorised by those responsible for the safety of the
machine to carry out the required work and are able to recognize and
avoid possible hazards as dened for skilled workers in IEC 364.
In order to prevent hazards to users, follow the instrucons in this
manual.
Malfuncons that impair the safety of persons, the PULVERISETTE 6 or
other material property must be reced immediately. The following
informaon serves both the personal safety of operang personnel as
well as the safety of the products described and any devices connected
to them: All maintenance and repair work may only be performed by
technically qualied personnel.
This operang manual is not a complete technical descripon. Only the
details required for operaon and maintaining usability are described.
Fritsch has prepared and reviewed this operang manual with the
greatest care. However, no guarantee is made for its completeness or
accuracy.

2.2 Scope of applicaon
The PULVERISETTE 6 classic line can be applied universally for the fast,
dry or wet grinding of inorganic and organic samples for analysis, quality
inspecon, material tesng or mechanical alloying. During the synthesis,
the PULVERISETTE 6 is used for mixing and homogenising dry samples,
emulsions or suspensions.

2.2.1 Operang principle
The grinding stock is crushed and ground by grinding balls in a grinding
bowl. The centrifugal forces resulng from the rotaon of the grinding
bowls around their own axes and from the rotang support disc (14)
inuence the contents of the grinding bowl consisng of grinding stock
and grinding balls.
The grinding bowl and the support disc (14) have opposite direcons of
rotaon so that the inuence of the centrifugal forces is alternately in
the same direcon and in the opposite direcon. The result is that the
grinding balls run down the inside of the bowl's wall as fricon eect and
the grinding balls hit the opposite wall of the grinding bowl as impact
eect. The impact eect is amplied by the impact of the grinding balls
against each other.
The loss-free comminuon, even when grinding suspensions, is ensured
by the hermec seal between the grinding bowl and the lid.

2.2.2 Drive motor and speed regulaon
A maintenance-free three-phase motor operated via a frequency con-
verter is used as the drive.
2.3 Obligaons of the operator
Before using the PULVERISETTE 6, this manual is to be carefully read and
understood. The use of the PULVERISETTE 6 requires technical knowl-
edge; only commercial use is permied.
The operang personnel must be familiar with the content of the oper-
ang manual. For this reason, it is very important that these persons
actually receive the present operang manual. Ensure that the operang
manual is always near the device.
The PULVERISETTE 6 may exclusively be used within the scope of applica-
ons set down in this manual and within the framework of guidelines put
forth in this manual. In case of non-compliance or improper use, the cus-
tomer assumes full liability for the funconal capability of the PULVERI-
SETTE 6 and for any damage or injury arising from failure to full this
obligaon.

By using the PULVERISETTE 6 the customer agrees with this and recog-
nizes that defects, malfuncons or errors cannot be completely excluded.
To prevent risk of damage to persons or property or of other direct or
indirect damage, resulng from this or other causes, the customer must
implement sucient and comprehensive safety measures for working
with the PULVERISETTE 6.
Neither compliance with this manual nor the condions and methods
used during installaon, operaon, use and maintenance of the PULVERI-
SETTE 6 can be monitored by Fritsch GmbH. Improper execuon of the
installaon can result in property damage and thus endanger persons.
Therefore, we assume absolutely no responsibility or liability for loss,
damage or costs that result from errors at installaon, improper opera-
on or improper use or improper maintenance or are in any way con-
nected to these.
The applicable accident prevenon guidelines must be complied with.
Generally applicable legal and other obligatory regulaons regarding
environmental protecon must be observed.

2.5 Device safety informaon
nOnly use original accessories and original spare parts. Failure to
observe this instrucon can compromise the safety of the machine.
nSafe conduct must be strictly observed during all work.
nAll currently applicable naonal and internaonal accident preven-
on guidelines must be complied with.
CAUTION!
Wear hearing protecon!
If a noise level of 85 dB(A) is reached or exceeded, ear
protecon should be worn to prevent hearing damage.
WARNING!
The maximum accepted concentraon (MAC) levels of
the relevant safety guidelines must be observed; if nec-
essary, venlaon must be provided or the machine
must be operated under an extractor hood.

DANGER!
Explosion hazard!
– When Grinding oxidisable substances, e.g. metal or
coal, there is a risk of spontaneous combuson
(dust explosion) if the proporon of ne parcles
exceeds a certain percentage. When Grinding these
kinds of substances, special safety measures must
be taken and the work must be supervised by a
specialist.
– The device is not explosion-protected and is not
suitable for Grinding explosive materials.
– Sample components might react with each other
during grinding and lead to explosions.
– Reactants, substances (e.g. hydrogen) which are
volale and ammable can be spontaneously pro-
duced! The user must rule out such a reacon
before grinding.
nDo not remove the informaon signs.
NOTICE!
Immediately replace damaged or illegible informaon
signs.
nUnauthorised alteraon of the device will void Fritsch's declaraon
of conformity to European direcves and void the guarantee.
nThe PULVERISETTE 6 should only be used when it is in proper
working order, as intended and in a safety- and hazard-conscious
manner adhering to the operang manual. In parcular, immediately
recfy any malfuncons that could pose a safety hazard.
nIf, aer reading the operang manual, there are sll quesons or
problems, please do not hesitate to contact our specialised per-
sonnel.
nDo not reuse damaged accessories.
nDo not leave the Planetary mono mill running for several hours
without cooling phases. Risk of overheang!
nThe mill must never be le running unsupervised. In certain oper-
ang states, the vibraons may result in a shiing eect on the sur-
face.

2.6 Protecve equipment
Protecve equipment is to be used as intended and may
not be disabled or removed.
All protecve equipment is to be regularly checked for
integrity and proper funconing.
For start-up, the hood (3) has to be closed.
The hood (3) is locked:
nwithout mains connecon
nduring operaon
The hood (3) can only be opened, if the mill's drive is at
standsll.
2.6.1 Opening the hood without mains connecon
NOTICE!
Use the emergency release only if a power failure or
damage to the device prevents normal opening. Only
open the emergency release gently and turn the trian-
gular key 180 degrees clockwise. Any other manner of
handling can damage the locking mechanism, rendering
the mill unusable.
CAUTION!
The emergency release must not be acvated while the
machine is running! Disconnect the machine from the
mains before the emergency release. Failure to observe
this will render void the guarantee, and releases us
from liability for any resulng damage to the device or
personal injury.

1. Insert the included triangular key (A) into the bore hole on the
boom side of the PULVERISETTE 6 classic line and turn it clock-
wise 180 degrees.
2. Unlock the latch (2) by pressing the hood handle (1).
3. The hood (3) can now be opened.
4. The mill can only be switched on again if the hood (3) is closed and
the safety lock (7) has been reacvated by turning the triangular
key 180 degrees anclockwise.
2.6.2 Imbalance switch
The device switches o if there is excessive imbalance. If this is the case,
then the counterweight has to be readjusted.
CAUTION!
The imbalance switch can be disabled at your own risk.
The Fritsch company will give no guarantee for damage
resulng from disabling of the imbalance switch!
NOTICE!
Change these sengs only aer all work as described in
Ä Chapter 4 ‘Installaon’ on page 20 has been carried
out!
In the default seng of the imbalance switch, it is ac‐
vated!
Acvaon / deacvaon of the imbalance switch in Setup mode:
1. Press and hold the STOP buon on the front control panel.

2. Switch on the device with the main switch (10) on the back side of
the device, and release the STOP buon.
3. If POWER SUPPLY is ashing, the device is in setup mode. If
POWER SUPPLY is not ashing, repeat the procedure.

NOTICE!
In the display above the right "-" buon (x) in the
TIMER eld, there must be a minus sign. That
acvates the imbalance switch and prevents a
dri of the device and possible damage to the
device resulng from it.
If the imbalance switch is deacvated, a ‘1’ is
shown.
5. To save and end setup mode, press the STOP buon.
2.7 Hazardous points
CAUTION!
– Crushing hazard when closing the hood (3).
– Crushing hazard at the grinding bowl safe-lock ten-
sioning device (5).
– Crushing hazard at the counterweight!

CAUTION!
Risk of splashes!
During wet grinding overpressure may have been
formed by the high temperature.

The grinding bowls can be very hot aer grinding.

2.8 Electrical safety
2.8.1 General informaon
nThe main switch (10) separates the device from the mains on two
poles.
nSwitch o the main switch (10) if the planetary mono mill is down for
a longer period of me (e.g. overnight).
2.8.2 Protecon against restart
In case of power failure during operaon or aer switching o with the
main switch (10), the hood (3) is locked. The hood lock (7) is opened
when the power returns. For safety reasons, however, the mill does not
restart.
2.8.3 Overload protecon
nIn the event of an overload, the device reduces the speed in a con-
trolled manner. The REDUCED SPEED light is lit as a warning.
nThe device switches o if the drive motor becomes too hot.
nThe device switches o if the drive is blocked. (See

2.8.4 Imbalance detecon

3.3 Operang noise
Emissions value of workplace according to DIN EN ISO 3746:2005 is up to
85dB (A). The value uctuates strongly, depending on the speed, the
grinding stock, and the type of grinding bowl and grinding balls.
3.4 Voltage
The device can be operated in two voltage ranges:
nSingle phase alternang current 100 - 120V ± 10%, and,
nSingle phase alternang current 200 - 240V ± 10%.

Depending on the mains voltage, the maximum current consumpon is
in the ranges:

4 Installaon
4.1 Transport
The device is delivered on a transport pallet with a wooden cover. We
recommend using a forkli or pallet truck for transporng the packed
device.
DANGER!
Do not step under the transport pallet during transport.
WARNING!
Improper liing can lead to personal injury or property
damage. The machine is only to be lied with suitable
equipment and by qualied personnel.
The guarantee excludes all claims for damage due to improper transport.
4.2 Unpacking
nRemove the nails that fasten the wooden hood to the transport
pallet.
nLi the hood o the transport pallet.
nThe pre-perforated segments can be detached so that the foam parts
can be removed more easily.
nPlease store the transport packaging so that it can be reused if you
need to return the product. Fritsch GmbH accepts no liability for
damage caused by improper packaging (packaging that is not from
Fritsch).
nCompare the contents of the delivery with your order.
Grinding bowls made of hardened steel may have
recesses on the surface caused during producon. They
do not have an impact on grinding or the grinding
results and usually disappear aer the rst grinding
operaon.
These recesses on the surface, if present, are within the
range of the permissible producon tolerances. Com-
plaints relang to such grinding bowls therefore cannot
be accepted.
