BLUETOOTH MUSIC STREAMING INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR GM WITH SEPARATE /SLAVE UNIT

Requirements:
Separate tape or cd player in lower dash
Introduction
Many 1995-05 GM vehicles in addition to the AM/FM/Theftlock radio, may also
include a separate cassette, single CD, or CD changer. If this describes your
vehicle, then the A2D-GM1 is for you! In the past, adding any type of adapter to
these vehicles required disconnecting the separate unit, but thanks to the A2D-
GM1 users keep everything in place. A Bluetooth wireless connection means no
wires, clutter or complicated setup. Simply connect module (to Theftlock radio),
pair smartphone or tablet and enjoy favorite apps on the car system.
The A2D-GM1 works only if vehicle has a functioning separate/slave single CD
player, Cassette player or CD changer (at least one separate unit required).
Vehicles without separate/slave unit, should purchase our BLU-GM1 instead.
Don’t confuse the AM/FM/Theftlock radio (See Fig. 5) in upper dash with
required separate/slave unit. Separate/slave units (See Fig. 6) are
installed below climate controls or in lower dash and remains connected
and operational.

Installation: (To AM/FM Radio)
Many 1995-01 radios in Buicks, Cadillac’s and Oldsmobile
have a 32-pin connector (See Fig. 1), The A2D-GM1 is not
compatible with 32-pin connector radios.

Remove radio from dashboard to gain access to 9-pin connector/plug.
(Vehicle specific radio removal instructions are not part of this guide, but
available upon request)
1. Disconnect factory 9-pin plug from radio connector (See Fig. 2)
Note: If radio 9-pin port (See Fig. 2) is empty, means vehicle does not
have required separate/slave unit for the A2D-GM1 to work. —do not
proceed with install.

2. Connect factory 9-pin plug (removed in step 1) to installation harness
9-pin connector (white) (See Fig. 3)

3. Connect installation harness 9-pin plug (See Fig. 4) to radio 9-pin
connector vacated in Step 1.

Notes:
1. Radios with 32-pin connector are not compatible. See our A2D-GM2 if
vehicle has separate unit (usually CD Changer)
2. Do not connect module directly to separate/slave unit, otherwise
Bluetooth playback is impaired. Make sure to connect adapter harness
plug (black) to radio 9-pin connector as seen in Fig. 4
Pairing
Pairing process varies among devices but the basic steps are the same. This
process is done upon initial install and will not have to be repeated.
1. Turn Ignition and radio “ON”
LED inside adapter peephole will flash (pairing mode)
2. On A2DP device: Go to Settings, Wireless & Networks, Bluetooth
Settings
3. Select Bluetooth and turn on.
4. Select Bluetooth settings
5. Tap Scan (Search) for devices .
6. Wait for Bluetooth device name to appear and select it.
LED inside adapter peephole will glow steady (paired)

Optional
Remote Control:
The wireless remote is optional and not required for the A2D-GM1 to work,
however instead of fumbling Smartphone etc., simply press remote control
buttons while also keeping your eyes on the road.
Remote control functions:
1. Control music wirelessly
2. Activate VR commands (Google play)
3. Track up/down
4. Volume up/down

Remote Control Operation:
Use wireless remote to perform the following functions on any iOS7.0 and higher
or Android 4.4 and higher.

Operation
1. Turn ignition and radio “ON”
2. Press “TAPE AUX” or “CD AUX” button on AM/FM Theftlock radio
Ensure separate/slave CD/changer has a “DISC” or separate Tape
player has a “Cassette”
3. Launch audio device streaming application.
4. Set audio device volume to 80%-- adjust as needed based on playback
quality (reduce if sound is distorted). Use Theftlock radio volume
button to set playback level.
Playlist and Track selection *NOT* possible from
radio. Use audio device built-in controls or optional
wireless remote to access and control audio files.
To play slave unit (CD or Cassette):
a. Press Theftlock radio “TAPE AUX” or “CD AUX” button
b. Disable Bluetooth on audio device. Separate/slave unit will now
play (Control slave unit from radio as customary)
2. To return to music streaming:
Enable Bluetooth on audio device.
Note: Streaming audio has priority and remains until Bluetooth is
disabled on audio device. Playback from slave unit is only possible if
Bluetooth is disabled Audio device is not paired to module)
5. If correct operation is confirmed go ahead and reinstall radio.

which solutions works best based on your individual need.
These adapters are all compatible with 1995-05 GM with original Theftlock radio
(See Fig. 5) and some require a slave unit (See Fig. 6).

Frequent asked questions
1. All this talk about separate/slave units is confusing; can you explain
what this all means?
Sure, GM separate, slave or remote units (Single CD player, Tape player or
CD changer) are optional and if present they are installed below climate
controls or lower dash connects to the main AM/FM/CD or AM/FM/TAPE in
upper dash (See Fig. 5) via a 9-pin harness. Separate or slave units
depend on main AM/FM radio in upper dash for controls (slave units do
not have controls buttons). See Fig. 6
This adapter (A2D-GM1) requires at least one functioning
separate/slave unit for operation- Not all GM vehicles have these
options but if yours does, the A2D-GM1 will work as described,
otherwise it will not.

2. Does the A2D-GM1 work with AM/FM/CD Theftlock radio?
YES. The A2D-GM1 works with both AM/FM/CD and AM/FM/TAPE so long a
separate/slave unit is also installed in the lower dash or below climate
controls, Slave unit remains connected and operational.
3. My vehicle has a separate TAPE player in lower dash; will the A2D-GM1
work?
YES;separate unit (TAPE player) is required. For proper operation a
cassette (blank or otherwise) must be loaded otherwise the A2D-GM1 will
not work.
4. My vehicle has separate single CD player below climate controls; will
the A2D-GM1 work?
YES; separate unit (Single CD player or CD changer) is required. For proper
operation a at least one “DISC”must be loaded, otherwise the A2D-GM1 will
not work.

5. How good is sound quality?
Sound quality is very good, static and interference free provided vehicles
electrical systems are up to standard.
6. My vehicle has two separate units; one in lower dash and a CD
changer in armrest. Will the A2D-GM1 work?
YES. Both slave units remain connected and functional.
7. If in the future I decide to remove the A2D-GM1, will I have trouble with
car wiring?
NO; the A2D-GM1plug-n-play install does not interfere with factory wiring
integrity. With the A2D-GM1 disconnected, everything will work as it did prior
to installing the module.
8. I purchased the A2D-GM1 but could not install it because my radio has
a “SOURCE” button and 32-pin connector. What are my options?
This 32-pin radio is on many Cadillacs, Oldsmobile’s, Buicks etc. many of
which also included or were wired for optional CD changer. Unfortunately,
the plug has 10-pins (not 9) and requires our A2D-GM2 instead.
9. Can I use the A2D-GM1 for Bluetooth hands free calling?
NO; the A2D-GM1 does not support Hands-Fee Calling but does support
wireless music streaming.
*Slave units (CD or Cassette) installed in lower dash or below climate controls
required for the A2D-GM1 to function. The main AM/FM Theftlock radio in upper
dash is not the slave but is also required.
