In this manual you will  nd standardized terms and signs to warn you of possible dangers
or give important hints. Please take special notice to these signs to avoid personal injury
or damage to the appliance.
The following terms and type of signs (basic drawing elements) are used:

The device has been constructed according to state-of-the-art technology and recognized
safety regulations. However, risks may still arise during installation, operation and
maintenance.

The device may only be used under the following circumstances:

The device is intended for use by trained and authorized personnel only.
The device is suitable for the

Improper use
Any use which deviates from the device’s intended use is considered to be improper. The
manufacturer does not accept liability for any damages resulting from non-permitted
uses. The risk is carried by the operator alone.

Installation / Electrical safety
▪The device may only be connected when the mains voltage corresponds to the infor-
mation on the type plate of the unit.
▪The mains connection must be accessible at all times.
▪Repairs may only be performed by a qualied electrician.
▪Never operate the unit with a damaged power cord.
▪Always turn the unit OFF and disconnect mains power before performing any
maintenance or service.
Personnel qualication
▪The device may only be operated by qualied persons.
▪The device may only be operated by individuals who have been instructed in its
proper use by qualied persons.
▪The device may only be operated and maintained by persons who are of legal age.
▪Other personnel may only work with the unit under continuous supervision of an
experienced qualied operator.
▪This manual must be read and understood by all persons working with the device.
▪The personnel must have received special safety instructions in order to guarantee
responsible and safe work procedures.
Operating company’s obligations
Installation site
▪The device must be positioned in a suitable location.
▪The device must be installed sufciently stable.
▪Ensure sufcient space in near proximity to the unit to allow free rotation.
▪All screw connections must be securely tightened.
▪Do not operate the device in proximity of highly inammable and explosive substances.
▪Installation and operation of the device is only permitted in facilities which are tted
with the appropriate laboratory equipment (e.g. with air extraction units).
▪We recommend operation in fume hood enclosures.
▪The device may only be operated in enclosed spaces and under the following environ-
mental conditions:
Ambient temperature ▪5 - 31 °C at 80 % relative humidity, no condensation
▪32 - 40 °C decrease linearly till max. 50 % relative
humidity
Depending on the medium used:
➜Only operate the device in conjunction with an extractor hood (at least 10-fold air
change, with error monitoring), see DIN EN 14175 and DIN 12924.

Changes to the unit
▪No unauthorized changes may be made to the unit.
▪No parts may be used which have not been approved by the manufacturer.
▪Unauthorized changes result in the EC Declaration of Conformity loosing its validity,
and the appliance may no longer be operated.
▪The manufacturer is not liable for any damage, danger or injuries that result from
unauthorized changes or from operating the unit other than described in this manual.
Safety for the personnel
➜Ensure that only qualied personnel operate the device.
➜Observe the following regulations:
- Laboratory guidelines
- Accident prevention regulation
- Ordinance on Hazardous Substances
- Other generally accepted rules of safety engineering and occupational health
- Local regulations
Safety during use
➜Wear the appropriate protective clothing when working on the device (protective
glasses and, if necessary, safety gloves).
➜Do not use the device in potentially explosive areas. The device is not protected
against explosion. There is no explosion or ATEX protection available.
➜Do not operate or assemble devices in the vicinity which are emission or radiation
sources (electromagnetic waves) for the frequency range (3*1011 Hz to 3*1015 Hz).
➜Avoid putting pressure on the display when you do not operate the device.
➜Eliminate errors immediately.
➜Do not use abrasive material to clean the glass surfaces. Only wipe with damp cloths.
➜Always switch the mains off after use.
Disposal
➜Check the device components for hazardous substances and solvents.
➜Clean all components before disposal.
➜Dispose of the device according to the valid national legal regulations.
➜Dispose of the packaging material in accordance with the valid national legal
regulations.

Warning:
Risk of slipping device!
As a result of vibrations generated during operation the device might
slide off the table top.
The surface must be smooth and clean, should be properly leveled
and has to feature an anti-skid surface coat.
➜Locate the shaker on a stable, horizontal surface.
➜Clean surface and feet with a damp cloth and ethanol regularly.

The three-phase socket is rmly connected
to the unit.
The connection is at the rear side of the

➜Connect the power cord with a
grounded socket.
➜Disconnect the plug if the unit is not
in use.

Inserting Adaptor
There are two adaptors available to meet with a wide range of applications:
▪„Universal adaptor” for any kind of vessels or racks
▪„Adaptor 1” for test tubes
A square bolt is situated on one side of
the adaptor.
On the opposite you will nd a rounded
pin.

➜First this square bolt is inserted into
the carrier at the right side of the
housing.
➜Then the knurled grip is drawn and the
rounded pin is placed in the receptacle.
➜Release knurled grip.

Operation and controls
Installing vessels: Universal adaptor
The construction of the universal adaptor allows to x different vessels with ground-in
stoppers or screwed caps as well as complete test tube racks.
Dimensions of vessels suitable for usage:
▪height min./max. 45 mm/160 mm
▪width max. 230 mm
➜To that end, the two quick-clamping
nuts are loosened by turning them
once or twice.
➜When they are in an inclined position,
the quick-clamping nuts can be moved
along the threaded bolt.
✓The universal adaptor can be
opened to a width from 45-160 mm,
depending on the case of application.
➜Then the vessels or the test tube rack
can be put into the adaptor, as shown
in the illustration.
➜Next the cover plate is pressed down
and secured with the quick-clamping
nuts. (To this end, move the quick-
clamping nuts along the threaded bolt
and tighten them by turning them
once or twice.)

Installing vessels: Adaptor 1
Adaptor 1 can hold 20 test tubes with diameters from 10 -18 mm.
A tension ring runs above the gap of the
test tubes in two levels.
➜Pull the tension ring on the 1st level
above the gap towards the middle of
the adaptor.
➜Move the test tube in front of the
tension spring through the gap, so that
the tension ring pushes the test tube
against the narrow side of the gap to
the outside.
➜Move the test tube further through the
2nd level and repeat to tensioning the
spring.

Starting rotation
Caution:
Risk of breakage and spillage
If the vessels are not attached securely they may fall out and spill
the sample.
Prior to switching the unit on ensure that all vessels are securely
fastened.
Warning:
Risk of poisoning
Open vessels will result in samples splashing.
Close all vessels tight especially if sample is dangerous or toxic.
Adjust rotation speed step by step until you have reached the
required rpm settings.
Wear safety glasses and especially with dangerous and toxic samples
appropriate protective clothing.
A single  ask should be arranged in the middle of the shaker plate.
Several  asks should be distributed equally on the plate.
The rotation of the adaptor is steplessly adjustable in the range from 20-100 rpm
through the control knob. Rotation starts as soon as unit is switched on.
An electronic overspeed monitor provides for constant rotation.
➜Turn unit on with the ON/OFF switch.
➜Set rotation speed with analog knob.
➜When the ON/OFF switch is switched off the adaptor can be turned to the desired
position by hand.
When using shakers inside conditioning cabinets, make reference to
ambient conditions as stipulated in the “Technical data” section.

Cleaning
All surfaces of the unit allow for cleaning with a damp cloth and if required a mild soap lotion.
Attention:
Damage to the surfaces
All surfaces can be damaged by improper cleaning.
In any case do not use:
▪Chlorine bleach or any cleaning agent including chlorine
▪Ammonia
▪Abrasive cleaning agents such as cleaning rags, scrubbing agents
or any other agents which include metal components
As a result of vibrations generated during operation the device might
slide off the table top.
To ensure a stable position clean surface and feet with a damp cloth
and ethanol regularly.
Maintenance
The unit is maintenance-free. Any necessary repair must be performed by an authorized
Heidolph distributor.

Electrical connections
▪This unit must only be connected by a professional electrician.
▪Repairs of any kind are allowed by qualied professionals only.
Any improper repair can result in a dangerous situation. Contact your local Heidolph
Instruments distributor for any repair you may have.
Warning:
Electric shock!
This unit must only be connected to a grounded electrical socket.
The unit and voltage must match. The type label on the back side of
the unit provides all voltage specics (see picture below).
When shipped, the unit is grounded. In case the original plug is
changed, the new plug must have a protective conductor!

The unit is connected with the power cord supplied to the electrical socket. It plugs into
the housing on the rear side of the unit.
For countries utilizing a plug other than the standard one supplied:
▪The plug supplied may only be changed by a professional electrician.
▪If utilizing an adaptor ensure that it is approved by the local regulations.

Warning:
Risk of injury!
While the unit is plugged in you might be at harm if the device is
accidentally switched to ON mode.
Prior to dismantling unit ensure that the unit is switched off and the
plug is pulled from the electric socket.
✓The unit is switched off.
➜Disconnect plug from power socket.
➜Remove all vessels.
➜Remove adaptor.
Transportation and storage
➜Store and transport the unit and its components only if they were emptied and
cleaned in the original packing material.
➜Alternatively store and transport the unit in a container which prevents damages
during transportation.
➜Seal the packing carefully against unauthorized or mistaken opening.
➜Store the unit in a dry place.
Improper transportation may result in damages to the system and
the mechanical components.
Avoid any kind of shocks during transportation.

Warranty
Heidolph Instruments provides a 3-year warranty for the
products described here (excluding glass and wearing parts)
if you register using the warranty card enclosed or online
(www.heidolph.com). The warranty is valid from the point of
registration. The serial number is also valid without registering.
The warranty covers part and manufacturing defects.
In the case of a part or manufacturing defect, the device shall be repaired or replaced
free of charge under the terms of the warranty.
Heidolph Instruments shall not assume liability for any damages incurred as a result of
improper handling or transport.
