1. Introduction
1.1 Brief Structure
This solution is designed to control the entrance and exit of office building, factory, cell and so on through
face verification, and the event can be managed and monitored on iVMS-4200 client software.

From front Figure 1，mainly we have two types scenarios: one is to add face recognition terminal based
on previous old swing barrier, the face recognition terminal will be connected to barrier control board through
RS232 interface; The second scenario is used more common, connect DS-K5603(T)-Z face recognition
terminal and swing barrier DS-K3B601-XXX, the quantity of barrier, face terminal, card or fingerprint reader
are selected according to customer requirement. In second scenario (picture on the right), one channel is for
entrance and another for out, so we need 4 face recognition terminals and 4 card readers.
Please refer to Figure 2 for the data flow, card number and fingerprint is registered to client software
iVMS-4200 through card issuer or fingerprint enrollment station. Face will be registered from enrollment
device or import from PC to iVMS-4200, then these cards and faces will be synchronized to terminals(DS-
K5603-Z), card number, fingerprint and permission will be synchronized to barrier control board(DS-K3M200)
in swing barrier. The fingerprint data will be send to fingerprint reader (optional) from barrier control board.
When swiping card, card number will be send to barrier control board for permission check. When put
finger on FP reader, it will verify inside the reader first, after verify successfully, reader will send the card
number, which is linked to this fingerprint, to barrier control board, then the board will check the permission
for this card number. When verify face on DS-K5603(T)-Z, it will verify face picture inside the terminal first,
after verify successfully, card number which linked to this face picture will be send to barrier control board,
then the board will check the permission for this card number. If the card number is verified, this board will
send signal to the motor to open the gate. The access event will be uploaded from face recognition terminal

DS-K5603-Z face recognition terminal separately.

according to the barrier model generation tool which is available from below path:

1.3 Parameters
a. Face picture capacity: 10,000(DS-K5603-Z), 50,000(DS-K5603T-Z)；
b. Face recognition distance: 0.3 m to 1.0 m;
c. Person height: 1.40 m –1.90 m;
d. Import face picture through USB flash, file name format must be same as below:

For example：1234567890_Nero_HQ_1_0.jpg
e. Face picture：Frontal photo without a hat，in jpeg or jpg format, resolution should be higher than 640*480
pixel, picture size should between 60 KB ~ 200 KB
f. When register face in device local, position requirement as below:

2. Installation Guide
2.1 Installation for swing barrier
Swing barrier is mainly used in the entrance or exit of office building and high-end department,
below instruction is only for indoor use(better to install a shield if use in outdoor).
1）The barrier should be installed on the concrete or non-flammable ground, please check
with customer and site situation to confirm whether can trench on the ground for
interconnect and network cables. If not allowed, please purchase base for barriers
Standard scenario example:
2）Ensure the ground is smooth so the IR transmitter and receiver on both side of barrier can
work normally, same as Figure 1；

Notes:
A.The device should be installed on the concrete surface or other non-flammable surfaces.
B.If the installation area is too close to the wall, make sure the distance between the
pedestal and the wall should be more than 120 mm, or you cannot open the pedestal top
cover.

3）Draw a central line on the installation surface for installing the center pedestal.
4）Draw another two parallel lines on each side of the central line for installing the other two
pedestals.
Note: The distance between the nearest two line is L+200 mm. L represents the lane width.
5）Confirm ground drill hole place on both sides according to Figure 2.
6）Drill holes on the ground according to the installation holes on the pedestals and insert the
expansion sleeves, each channel need 6*M12 screws.
7）Bury interconnecting cables for pedestal communication.
Note: For detailed information about burying and wiring interconnecting cables, see Wiring
Interconnecting Cable.
8）According to the entrance and exit marks on the pedestals, move the pedestals to the
corresponded positions.
Note: Make sure the installation holes on the pedestals and the base are aligned with each
other.
9）Secure the pedestals with expansion bolts.
Note: Do not immerse the pedestal in the water. In special circumstances, the immersed
height should be no more than 10 mm.

2.2 Barrier Wiring
1）Wire electric supply with the switch in the pedestal. Terminal L and terminal N are on the
switch, while terminal PE should connect to a ground wire (yellow and green wire).；

NOTE：Power OFF before wiring to ensure safety.
2）Connect master lane board and slave lane board through interconnecting cable, the
cable hole is in the bottom of barrier, see Figure 5

Note:
1. The supplied interconnecting cable length is 3.75 m. If you need a longer one, ask our technical
support or sales to purchase 5.5 m interconnecting cables；
2. The inner diameters of the low voltage conduit and the high voltage conduit should be larger
than 30 mm. If there is a high-power peripheral (for authentication) installed on the left pedestal
(according to the picture displayed above), you should increase the inner diameter of the high
voltage conduit；
3. General burying method: Bury one network cable and one AC power cord for the right pedestal
and bury one network cable and one AC power cord for the central pedestal before installation.
If no AC power cord buried independently, you should bury an AC power cord between the
right pedestal and the central pedestal.；
4. If you want to bury both of the AC power cord and the low voltage cable at the entrance side,
the two cables should be in separated conduits to avoid interference.；
5. If all wires of the interconnecting cable have connected with peripherals and more peripherals
are required to connect, you should increase the conduit diameter or bury another conduit for
the external cable；
2.3 Face recognition terminal wiring
Installation Environment:
1.Avoid backlight and direct sunlight.
2. If use barrier outdoors, please install a sun shield over the device.
3.The face recognition device should install on the pedestals of the barriers.
1) Route the cables through the pipe from top to bottom and thread them through the
cable holes on the barrier pedestal top cover；
2) Wiring the RS232 signal cable to barrier controller reserved RS232 interface

3) Raise the pipe and make sure the pipe and the pedestal top panel are vertical.；
4) Secure hex socket screws.
a) Rotate the pipe and align the four holes on the round panel with the holes on the
pedestal top panel.
b) Thread the supplied four M6 × 15 socket screws from up to down through the four
holes respectively. (Do not tight up.)
c) Rotate the pipe and make sure the device display screen is in the correct direction.
d) Tight the four screws to secure the device on the barrier pedestal.；

5) Install the cover on the round panel.
a) Move the cover on the round panel.
b) Rotate the cover and hide the hole on the cover and align the hole with one of the
four small parts on the round panel.
c) Secure the cover and the round panel with one supplied M2 screw.

6) Connect face recognition terminals and control board to the switch through UTP cable.
Note: For face recognition terminal on master barrier, we can connect network cable to switch direct,
but for the device on slave barrier, it needs a network converter and an extension network cable, then
connect to the switch(see figure 10)

3. Configuration and Debug
3.1 Configure K3M200 barrier control board
1) Install iVMS-4200 client software, activate and add K3M200 barrier control board to iVMS-4200
client software；

2) Open remote configuration of K3M200, go to systemRS-485, select 4 and 6 from drop-down list, ；

Note: The RS485 port 4 is for master face recognition terminal, port 6 for slave face recognition terminal.
If face recognition terminal is installed on both sides(IN&OUT both direction). Please configure port 4
and 6 from RS-485 drop-down list. Peripheral set as ID Card Identification Terminal, select Enter or Exit
direction according to site situation, Bitrate must be 115.2K.
3) Power off the barrier and set No.1 dip switch as on, which means enable study mode. Adjust both
side swing to correct position manually. Then power on the barrier again and wait study process
finish(the barrier will open and close for one time).
4) After device boot finish, then power off the barrier and set No.1 dip switch to 0(normal mode), and
restart the barrier to take effect.
3.2 Configure face recognition terminal
1) Activate device and set activation password, long press the screen and it will prompt to input the
password, after that we can enter the menu；
2) We have 4 methods to manage the data：
①Register from device local：enter device menu User Management，select add user, input name
and card number, select face picture to enroll face，after enrolled successfully, click save；

②Import from USB flash：enter device menu Data Management
Create a folder enroll_pic in USB flash and add all user photo to this folder, Insert USB flash to device port.
Note:
a.The name format of the imported face picture: Card No._Name_Department_Employee ID_Gender.jpg
for example: 1234567890_Nero_HQ_1_0.jpg
b.The imported face picture should contain the user’s frontal face with the format of JPEG or JPG.
c.The face picture’s resolution should be 640 × 480 or more. The picture size should be between 60 KB
and 200 KB.
d.The pupillary distance of the face picture should be more than 60 pixel.
③Enroll face picture from iVMS-4200 client software through USB camera (model: DS-2CS55D7B) or
import from PC local, then sync to face recognition terminal.
④Sync from Hikcentral platform to face recognition terminal(V1.3.1 or later version)
3.3 Permission configuration on iVMS-4200 client software
Note：
① The function of barrier control board is similar to DS-K2600 access controller；

2) Add user info and card number；

3.4 Testing
Verify card on card reader，barrier will open, after pass the barrier will close.
Verify face on DS-K5603(T)-Z，barrier will open, after pass the barrier will close.
Appendix、FAQ
1. After face recognition terminal DS-K5603-Z power on，device cannot boot normally or always restarting？
Solution: Make sure the power supply for terminal is 12V/3A, if not please change adapter
2. The user info is synchronized from software to device successfully, but it prompt face not registered when
verify face
Solution: Make sure face picture has been added to software then link face picture to card
3. One side barrier open normally but another side has some delay.
Solution: Check barrier control board configuration and jumper position(step 2.3) is correct；Check RS232
cable and make sure cable is connected properly
4. After face verify successfully, the barrier has no reaction or sometime cannot open
Solution: Check RS232 cable is connected properly, ensure the cable is not connected opposite(step 2.3).
5. Import face picture from USB flash failed
Solution: Ensure the USB flash is recognized by device, if not please have a try with another flash; The format
of USB flash should be FAT32; All face picture should be added to enroll_pic folder in USB; The name format
of the imported face picture: Card No._Name_Department_Employee ID_Gender.jpg
Such as：1234567890_Nero_HIK_1_0.jpg
6. There is some noise in swing barrier
Solution: Check if there is any screw inside barrier is loose
