1 Overview
The HUAWEI TP3206 Telepresence System (TP3206 or telepresence system for short), the
HUAWEI TP3218 Telepresence System (TP3218 or telepresence system for short) and the
HUAWEI TP3218S Telepresence System (TP3218S or telepresence system for short)
integrates Huawei's proprietary co-optical center and image stitching technology to deliver
panoramic and seamless video in a conference room professionally designed to implement a
face-to-face remote conference experience. You can hold conferences easily using the touch
panel on the multi-functional conference table, and its touch panel's user-friendly user
interface allows you to focus on the meeting, not the technology.
With simple system configurations and conference management, the TP3206 transmits
high-definition (HD) video and stereo audio, supports point-to-point and multipoint
conferences, and displays video and a computer's graphical user interface at the same time.
The TP3206 provides the ultimate conference experience, linking sites across the globe
together.
The TP3206, TP3218, and TP3218S have similar functions. The TP3206 and the TP3218 have
different quantities of chair rows, tabletop displays, and microphones. The TP3218 and the
TP3218S have different quantities of local microphones and second-row tabletop displays.
The TP3206 is used as an example in this document.
Before you use the telepresence system, refer to the product vendor for version mapping information and
to confirm compatibility with other videoconferencing equipment.

1.2 Sensory Experience
The telepresence system provides you with true-to-life audio-visual experience. Participants
can express their ideas using words, actions, expressions, and eye contact, bringing people
closer and helping them build a trustworthy relationship with customers and partners.
1.2.1 Handshake Effect
The telepresence system creates the real time ambience of a round-table conference. The
telepresence system even allows users to "shake hands" with remote users.
The HD displays make the local participants feel as though they are sitting with the remote
participants face to face. In addition, the display on the left and right sides on the screen is the
same as the actual settings at the remote end. When a local participant and a remote
participant offer their right hands at the same time, a real visual effect of handshake can be
experienced.
1.2.2 Face-to-Face Experience
HD video: The telepresence system supports the HD video at 1080p 50Hz or 1080p
60Hz resolution.
Eye contact: The telepresence system allows eye contact between participants. That is,
remote participants can look straight at local participants.
Image stitching: The telepresence system supports the stitching of multiple channels of
video streams. For example, when a participant walks along the table, the HD displays
can display the continuous and complete motion of the participant.

The telepresence system has professional sound field design and supports wideband audio,
stereo, and sound localization. When remote participants speak from different directions, the
sounds are transmitted from the corresponding audio channels, offering users real sound field
experience.

1.4 Reliable Security Features
The telepresence system supports the following security features to ensure a stable and
reliable conferencing environment:
Anti-attack protocols and interfaces
−The communication port matrix is provided in the product documentation. The
services and ports not mentioned in the communication port matrix must not be
enabled. Of the enabled communication ports, the ports used for system management
as well as the protocols used by the ports have access authentication mechanisms.
−The telepresence system supports media stream encryption and TLS signaling
encryption during voice services to ensure user data integrity.
Web security
−During login authentication, the telepresence system uses the Hypertext Transfer
Protocol Secure (HTTPS) to transmit the user name and password to the server.
−User accounts are manageable. Users with the highest level privileges can enable or
disable other accounts. All account passwords are changeable.
Protection over sensitive data
−User login passwords are stored in the system after being encrypted using the
irreversible message digest algorithm 5 (MD5).
−By default, the wireless router uses the Wi-Fi protected access II pre-shared key
(WPA2-PSK) as the authentication mode.
−During network gatekeeper (GK) or SIP registration or the process of saving a 4E1 or
conference control password, the telepresence system uses HTTPS transmission.
−During fault location, the telepresence system filters or anonymizes personal data
exported from the system. The logs and configuration files exported from the system
do not contain any sensitive data.
−No private encryption algorithms are used.
System management and maintenance security
−The telepresence system supports the maintenance and management using HTTPS
and Secure Shell (SSH).
−The telepresence system's switch performs VLAN partition to separate public and
private networks and ensure the communication security within the private network.

−The telepresence system software has been scanned using at least one type of
mainstream antivirus software before release.
−The user client software used for system maintenance and management provides a
digital signature and verification tool that can be used to verify software integrity
during installation and upgrades to protect the software from unauthorized changes.
−All physical ports used for system management that are visible on the product
exterior have access authentication mechanisms. Users must enter their user names
and passwords to access the ports.
−System logs record all user activities and operation commands associated with device
or system management for future audits.A log contains all the details, such as the
user ID, event time, event type, name of the resource that has been accessed, and
access results. The system controls users' rights to access logs.
1.5 Two UIs
The telepresence system provides two user interfaces (UIs) for the following two types of
users:
Telepresence System Manager UI: From this UI, system administrators configure and
control devices and set conference parameters. For details, see 2 Using the Telepresence
System Manager.
Touch panel UI: From this UI, users initiate and control conferences. For details, see 3
Using the Touch Panel.

Use a browser to access the Telepresence System Manager. Then you can manage the devices
in the telepresence system, configure conference settings, import or export contacts, and
manage scripts.
2.1 Logging In to the Telepresence System Manager
Log in to the Telepresence System Manager using a web browser to manage the telepresence
system.
2.1.1 Login Prerequisites

It is recommended that any computer used to access the Telepresence System Manager meet
the hardware specifications listed in Table 2-1.

2.1.2 Configuring the Browser
Prerequisites
Ensure that the latest patches for the computer operating system and the browser are installed.
Context
On the browser, turn off Pop-up Blocker, or add the website address of the Telepresence
System Manager to trusted sites.
Internet Explorer 8.0 and Firefox 3.5 are used as examples to describe how to configure
browsers. The method of configuring other versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox is the
similar to that of configuring Internet Explorer 8.0 and Firefox 3.5.
Procedure
Step 1 Launch Internet Explorer.
Step 2 Choose Tools > Internet Options to display the Internet Options dialog box.
Step 3 Click the Security tab, choose Internet > Custom level to display the Security Settings
dialog box.
Step 4 Enable Active Scripting and all the parameters under Downloads.
Step 5 Click OK to return to the Internet Options dialog box.
Step 6 Click Trusted sites and then Sites to display the Trusted sites dialog box.
Step 7 In Add this website to the zone, enter the IP address or domain name of the Telepresence
System Manager.
Step 8 Click Add.
Step 9 Click OK to return to the Internet Options dialog box.
Step 10 Click OK.
To configure Firefox, do the following:
From the menu bar of Firefox, choose Tools > Options. From the General tab, enable Show
the Downloads window when downloading a file. From the Privacy tab, select Use custom
settings for history, select Accept cookies from sites, and click OK to save the settings.

2.1.3 Using HTTP or HTTPS for Login
Context
The Telepresence System Manager supports Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). HTTPS enhances the security of data
transmission. By default, HTTPS is used. For details about how to enable HTTPS, see 2.3.1
Setting General Parameters.

Procedure
Step 1 Open the browser.
Step 2 In the address bar, enter the IP address or domain name of the Telepresence System Manager.
For example, 192.168.1.1.
Step 3 Press Enter to display the login page.
Step 4 In User name, enter the user name (admin by default). In Password, enter the password
(Change_Me by default).
To obtain all administration rights, log in as the super administrator. The user name is superadmin, and
the default password is Change_Me. To enhance the data security on the Telepresence System Manager,
change the default password.
Step 5 From Language, select a language.
Step 6 Click Log In.
After authentication, the home page of the Telepresence System Manager is displayed, as
shown in Figure 2-1.

2.1.4 Configuring Security Settings
To ensure system security, it is recommended that you enable HTTPS, enable the SiteCall
HTTPS mode, disable the Telnet user account, and change your login password the first time
you log in to the system.

Enabling HTTPS
The telepresence system supports both HTTPS (enabled by default) and HTTP. If HTTPS is
disabled, enable it to ensure secure communication.
1. On the Telepresence System Manager, choose System Settings > General to display the
General tab.
2. Under Common Settings, set HTTPS settings to Enable.
When HTTPS settings is set to Disable, the telepresence system uses HTTP for communication.
After HTTPS is enabled on the Telepresence System Manager, tap > Settings > Advanced
Settings > Connection Settings on the touch pane. Then, set the protocol to HTTPS.
3. Click Save.
Enabling the SiteCall HTTPS Mode
Enable the SiteCall HTTPS mode so the codec uses HTTPS to upload SiteCall conference
information to the SMC. This ensures communication security. If you disable the SiteCall
HTTPS mode, the codec uses the insecure Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) to upload SiteCall
conference information to the SMC.
1. On the Telepresence System Manager, choose System Settings > H.323/SIP to display
the H.323/SIP tab.
2. Under H.323, set SiteCall HTTPS mode to Enable.
3. Click Save.
Disabling the Telnet User Account
The telepresence system allows you to enable and disable the Telnet user account. The Telnet
user account is disabled on the system by default. If the Telnet user account is enabled, disable
it to ensure system security.
1. On the Telepresence System Manager, choose System Settings > Other Users to
display the Other Users tab.
2. Under Debug User Account Status, set Telnet account status to Disable.
3. Click Save.
To perform the preceding operations, log in to the Telepresence System Manager as the super
administrator. For the super administrator's default user name and password, see the HUAWEI TP1102

Changing Your Login Password
It is recommended that you change your login password the first time you log in to the
system.
1. On the Telepresence System Manager, choose System Settings > Login Users or
System Settings > Other Users to display the Login Users or Other Users tab.
2. Change your login password and click Save.

2.1.5 Logging Out from the Telepresence System Manager
To ensure the security of the Telepresence System Manager, log out from the system after you
complete your operations.
Click or Exit in the upper right corner to exit the Telepresence System Manager.
2.2 Configuring and Controlling Devices
Using the Telepresence System Manager, you can configure and control devices in the
telepresence system.
For details about how to configure and control the telepresence system, see the HUAWEI
TP3206&TP3218&TP3218S Telepresence System Manager Online Help.
2.2.1 Setting the Product Model
Context
You can set which product model is controlled by the Telepresence System Manager.
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the Telepresence System Manager as the super administrator.
Step 2 Click Device Control to display the device topology.
Step 3 Right-click Telepresence Host and choose Set Model from the shortcut menu.
Step 4 Select the product model to be controlled by the Telepresence System Manager.
Step 5 Click Save.
A dialog box is displayed to prompt you to restart the telepresence host.
Step 6 Click Save.

2.2.2 Configuring the NMS
Context
You can specify an alarm account for the network management system (NMS). When your
telepresence system reports its alarms to the NMS, the NMS authenticates it based on this
alarm account.
Procedure
Step 1 Click Device Control to display the device topology.
Step 2 Right-click Telepresence Host and choose Configure NMS from the shortcut menu.

Step 3 Specify the user name and password for the NMS alarm account.
The user name and password must be the same as those defined on the NMS. The default user name is
tpAlarm, and the default password is tpAlarm@123.
Step 4 Click Save.

2.2.3 Configuring the Devices
Context
You must configure the devices in the TP3206 independently from the Telepresence System
Manager.
Procedure
Step 1 Log in to the Telepresence System Manager as the super administrator.
Step 2 Click Wizard and follow the instructions to set the required parameters. You can also
configure the following devices independently as required:
Codec: Set the network parameters for the codecs.
Serial port: Set the device connected to every serial port on the telepresence host.
Video port: Set the devices to which the video ports on the telepresence host are
connected and their transmission parameters.
Audio port: Set the devices to which the audio ports on the telepresence host are
connected and their transmission parameters. Set the transmission parameters for every
audio port on the telepresence host.
Recording system: Set the local recording server's IP address, connection password, and
whether presentations are to be recorded.
The local recording function is available only when the telepresence system is connected to the local
recording server.
Power supply: Set the devices connected to each power socket.
Telepresence host: Set the IP addresses used by the codecs to connect to the telepresence
host.
Camera: Set the camera parameters.
Administrators (not the super administrator) can configure codec parameters only.
