The SR Series User Manual is for new and experienced SR Series users who want to learn to use this product for the
Tyco Radar Detection.

Conventions
This manual uses the following text formats and symbols.
Convention Meaning
Bold This font indicates screen elements, and also indicates when you should take a direct action in a procedure.
Bold font describes one of the following items:
• A command or character to type, or
• A button or option on the screen to press, or
• A key on the keyboard to press
• A screen element or name
blue color text Indicates a hyperlink to a URL, or a cross-reference to a figure, table, or section in this guide.

This guide is designed to assist first-time users to connect and operate the SR-series radar sensor. It is strongly
recommended to carefully read and review the entire SR-series User Manual as well as the Tyco Radar Detection -
Area Surveillance Software User Guide (if purchased) for safe and proper operation of the sensor.
Note: This product line is a Magos Systems offering.

Software Installation and Configuration
This section provides information on the setup and installation of the SR - Series Sensor for Tyco Radar Detection.
The manual provides information on visual inspection, connection of cable and PC, software download, assigning
IP, and support system for SR - Series Sensor for Tyco Radar Detection product line. Please read the entire document
prior to the installation and or use of the product.
Visually Inspect the Contents of the Package
Ensure that the package contents matches your order and that no physical damage has occurred to any of the
supplied products during transportation. Refer to Figure 1 on Page 9.

Connect the Cable to the Sensor
Refer to Figure 2 on Page 10, and follow the mating guide key on both the sides to connect the cable to the sensor.

Warranty does not cover water damage caused to the connector. In order to avoid such damage, the
cap must be attached to the cable if it is not plugged in.
NOTE Ensure that the cable or the cap is securely connected by twisting until they are firmly locked.
Connect the Sensor to a PC
Use a PC or Laptop running Windows 7 OS or higher. Review minimum system requirement at
https://partners.magosys.com/portal/downloads under the documentation tab.
Following are the 3 available options:
nUsing a PoE injector connect the radar directly to a PC. Refer to Figure 3 on Page 11.
nUsing a PoE injector connect the radar to a switch (connected to the same LAN as the PC). Refer to Figure 4 on
Page 12.
nUsing a PoE switch connect the radar directly to the switch (connected to the same LAN as the PC). Refer to
Figure 5 on Page 12.

Visit our partner’s portal at https://partners.magosys.com/portal/downloads (logins are required using the
credentials you have received from [e-mail]).

Browse to the Software tab and download the Radar Manager Application as well as the Tyco Radar Detection -
Area Surveillance Software application (if purchased) from the Downloads tab.
Assign IP to the Sensor
Use the radar manager application to assign a new IP address to the sensor. To Change IP address, right click on the
current IP address reported, and choose Assign IP.
NOTE The computer and the sensor must be in the same subnet mask, otherwise they will not
communicate.

Run the MASS setup file. For further information and instructions consult with the Tyco Radar Detection - Area
Surveillance Software User Guide available for download in the Documentation Tab at
https://partners.magosys.com/portal/downloads.
NOTE After installation, you need to activate the Tyco Radar Detection - Area Surveillance Software license
generated for you. Follow the instructions in the email received to activate the license.

mismatching package content, missing Partner Portal credentials).

Physical Installation Guidelines
Introduction
An Ideal installation will be an open field with no obstacles and clear line of sight to targets, however installation
sites are not always ideal. When choosing a mounting location for the SR-Series Sensor, the goal is to optimize
detection while minimizing the potential for false targets. It is highly recommended to conduct a site survey to
identify the optimal position prior to installation. A site survey provides an opportunity to confirm coverage and
mounting location with the customer prior to installing poles, power, and communication.
Follow the guidelines mentioned in this chapter for optimizing radar performance.
NOTE The guidelines in this chapter are designed to optimize the Sensor performance. However, it is
difficult to fully predict the Radar performance as it highly depends on monitored terrain.
Performance can only be verified after positioning the sensor and monitoring its output. A new
location should be considered if performance is not satisfactory within the area of interest.
Line of Sight
You should start with a clear definition of the area that need to be covered, identify the expected potential targets or
threats. A clear line of sight is required in order for the SR Sensor to maximize detection.
NOTE Targets outside of the SR Sensor detection range will not be tracked.
NOTE All the targets are not visible due to Line of Sight obstructions. Refer to Figure 7 on Page 17.

NOTE With clear Line of Sight, all the targets in the coverage area can be detected. Refer to Figure 8 on Page

Installation Height
A good method for improving the line of sight and sensor performance is by increasing Installation Height. The
Table 1 on Page 18 summarizes the recommended mounting heights per sensor.

When installation height is much higher than the observed terrain level, then the recommended best practice is to tilt
down the radar such that it is pointing at the maximum desired range of detection, refer to Figure 9 on Page 19.

Tangent and Radial Movement
Doppler effect improves the detection performance of the radar by allowing it to differentiate between targets moving
towards or away from radar and static objects.
However Tangent moving targets do not generate the Doppler effect and are less differentiable. It is recommended to
try and position the SR-Series sensors in such a way that the potential threat vectors are as radial as possible.
Otherwise, maximum reliable detection range is reduced.
NOTE Targets moving across the SR Sensor Line of Sight are not easier to detect. Refer to Figure 10 on Page
20.

Avoid - Clutter Sources
Clutter in terms of radar is any object that might generate background noise or detections that are not real threats, if
radar coverage includes the following clutter sources, then this might affect detection performance even in clutter free
zones.
