TheEM122TransceiverUnitisawall-mountedsteelcabinetwithintegratedshock
andvibrationabsorbers.Itholdsthecircuitboardsfortransmission,receptionand
processing.Itisnormallylocatedina“sonarroom”closetothetransducerarrays.An
EthernetcableconnectstheTransceiverUnittotheOperatorStation.
Thecablesfromthetransducerarray'sareconnectedtotheTransceiverUnitviatheTX
JunctionBox(es)andthePreamplierUnit.
IfthesystemhasSubBottomProler300,theRXcablesareconnectedviaPreamplier
UnitanduptoTRU

Supplyconditions
Equipmentresponsibility
Uponreceiptoftheequipmentthesystemownerorinstallationshipyardautomatically
becomesfullyresponsiblefortheequipment,unlessotherwisestatedinthecontract.
Thisresponsibilitycoversthestorageperiodbeforeinstallation,theactualinstallation,
commissioning,andtheperiodbetweenthecompletionofthecommissioningandthe
acceptanceoftheequipmentbytheenduser(normallytheownerofthevesselor
platformintowhichtheequipmentistobeinstalled).
Projectmanagement
Projectmanager
KongsbergMaritimeASwillnormallyappointadedicatedprojectmanagerforthe
deliveryproject.Themanagerwillfollowuptheinstallationanddelivery,andwillbe
theinstallationshipyard’sandenduser’spointofcontact.
InstallationperformedbyKongsbergMaritime
KongsbergMaritimeASwillassistduringtheinstallationifspeciedinthecontract
orrequestedbytheinstallationshipyardorcustomer.Beforeanyinstallationwork
byKongsbergMaritimeAScanbegin,allcables(atleastthosewhichareinanyway
connectedwiththesystem)mustberunandconnectedtotheirrespectiveterminations.
Thesecablestogetherwiththetransducerinstallationwillthenbecheckedbythe
KongsbergMaritimeASengineersbeforetheyareused.
Dependingupontheavailabilityofelectricalpowereitherfromthegeneratorsonboard
orfromashore,theequipmentrelatedtothesystem,andthevariouspartsofthesystem
willbetestedduringtheSettingtoWork(STW)period.Thisrequiresthatinterfacesto
equipmentdeliveredbyothersubcontractorsarereadyforintegrationtesting.
Delaysmayoccurifanyoftheequipmentrelatedtothesystemisnotavailablefor
KongsbergMaritimeASfortesting.Duringseatrials,thevesselmustbeatKongsberg
Maritime’sdisposalwhenrequired,eventhoughwecannotbeheldresponsiblefor
expensesrelatingtotherunningcostsofthevessel.
Aftercompletionofthecommissioning,theequipmentshouldbeofciallyhandedover
totheenduserandtheappropriatedocumentssignedinaccordancewiththecontract.
Alldefectsordeviationsfromthecontractmustbespeciedindetailinthesedocuments.
Itshouldbenotedthatifsuchdefectsordeviationsarenotspecied,theycannotbeused
byanyofthepartiesconcernedasvalidreasonfornotsigningthedocuments.

Installation,supervisionandcommissioning
Electricalandmechanicalinstallation
Theinstallationshipyardisnormallyresponsiblefortheinstallationoftheentiresystem.
Inaddition,theshipyardisresponsibleforprovidingandconnectingallcablesotherthan
specialcablessuppliedwiththeequipment.Theactualinstallationandcablelaying
mustcomplywiththevessel’sclassicationrulesandtherecommendationsgiven
inthismanual.
Baseframesmayberequiredforsomeunits.Ifso,thesemustbemanufacturedin
accordancewiththedrawingsprovidedintheapplicablesectionsinthismanual.
Duringtheinstallationperiod,theequipmentmustbecoveredinsuchawaythatitis
protectedfromdust,paintspray/splashesandwelding/cuttingsparks.Precautionsmust
betakentoensurethatnopartoftheequipmentisusedasaworkplatform,orforany
otherpurposeforwhichitwasnotdesigned.
Note
Anydamageincurredduringtheinstallationperiod,evenwithaKongsbergMaritimeAS
representativepresent,istheinstallationshipyard’ sresponsibilityunlessitcanbeproven
thatthedamagewasduetoproductionormaterialdefectsintheequipmentdeliveredby
KongsbergMaritimeAS,orirresponsibilitybyKongsbergMaritimeASpersonnel.
Pre-commissioningandacceptancetests
Pre-commissioningandacceptancetestsareconductedbyKongsbergMaritimeAS
personnel.
Installationtests
TheKongsbergMaritimeinstallationperiod(aftershipyardinstallation)isnormally
dividedintothreeconsecutivephases
•Theinitialstart-upanddock-sidetestingperiod.Thisperiodisnormallyknownas
Setting-to-Work(STW).
•Dock-sidecommissioningunderoperationalconditions.Thiscommissioningperiod
isnormallyendedwithaHarbourAcceptanceTest(HAT).
•SeaAcceptanceTest(SAT)withnalcommissioningunderoperationalconditions
atsea.
Theextentofthetestsisnormallydenedinthecontract.
Ifrequiredduringacontractualtestperiod,theshipyardmustprovideassistance
necessaryfortherapidandefcientcompletionoftheworkevenwhentheworkistobe
performedoutsidenormalworkinghours.Thisrequirementincludesassistancefrom
subcontractorswhenapplicable.Excessivewaitingtimeresultingfromdelayscausedby
theshipyardwillbechargedtotheshipyard.

Powersupply
Thesupplyvoltagetotheequipmentistobekeptwithinthespecicationsgiveninthe
chapterPowerrequirementsonpage61.
KongsbergMaritimestronglyrecommendsthattheEM122OperatorStationispowered
throughanUninterruptedlyPowerSupply(UPS).TheUPSmustbelargeenough
toallowminimum10minutesoperation.Thesystemcanthenbeswitchedoffina
controlledmannerincaseofpowerfailures.
Environmentalrequirements
Vibrations
TheEM122TransceiverUnitandPreamplierUnitarettedwithshockandvibration
dampingmounts.
Ifthevibrationvelocityamplitudeatthebaseoftheinstalledequipmentisexpectedto
exceed1gintherange5–50Hz,constantlyduringoperationallife,specialprecautions
aretobetaken.
Consulttheapplicablemanufacturer'sdocumentationforshockandvibrationdampingof
theEM122OperatorStationandperipherals.
Formoreinformationabouttemperatureandenvironment,seeEnvironmentalandEMC
specicationsonpage62
Noisesources
Thevessel’shull,rudder(s)andpropeller(s)shouldbethoroughlyinspectedindrydock
priortoinstallation.Roughnessbelowthewater-line,deformitiesintheshellplatingand
protrudingobstaclescancreateacousticalnoise.Thesesourcesofturbulencemustbe
smoothedorremovedasbestaspossible.Itisespeciallyimportantthatthepropeller(s)
isnotpittedordamaged.
Drydocking
TheTransducerinstallationmustbedonewhenthevesselisindrydock.Makesure
thereissufcientworkingspaceunderthehullforthisinstallationwork.
Note
Thelocationofthegondolaand/orprotectionblistermustbenotedonthevessel’ s
dockingplanforfuturereference.

Wiring
Allcablesbetweenthebridge,thevariousoperation-andequipmentrooms,mustbe
supportedandprotectedalongtheirentirelengthusingconduitsorcabletrays.Note
thatthecablesmustnotbeinstalledinthevicinityofhigh-powersuppliesandcables,
antennacablesorotherpossiblesourcesofinterference.
Warranty
Thewarrantyonthescopeofsupplyis24monthsfromthedatewhentheequipment
issentfromthefactory.Warrantydoesnotcoverdamageordefectscomingfrom
improperstoringoftheequipment(i.e.cabledamagebytemperatureoscillation,rusty
components,physicaldamageetc.)

Basicdescription
TheEM122usesseparatetransducerarraysfortransmittingandreceivingsoundpulses.
Bothtransducerarrayscompriseseveralmoduleswhichareassembledinmounting
frames.Thesearenormallyxedinacustomizedstructureonthehullofthevessel.
Notethatthetransmitterandreceivermodulesareofdifferenttypes.
Thetwotransducerarraysarenormallymountedas“T”or“L”-congurations,ora
similarvariantunderthevessel’shull(MillsCrossconguration).
Thetransmittransducerarrayshouldbeapproximatelyalignedparalleltothevessel's
keel.Thereceivertransducerarrayshouldbeapproximatelyaligned90ºonthekeel.
Bothtransducersshouldbehorizontal,approximatelyonaplaneonthekeel.Thereisno
needforthearraystohavetheexactsameheading,rollandpitch.
Forbestperformanceatveryshallowdepths,keepthealongshipdistancebetweenRX
andTXarrayassmallaspossible.
