sweeps("chirps")acrossarangeoffrequencies.Thisgivesyouincreasedresolutiononthe
longerranges.
Originallydesignedforoutscienticsounders,theES80canalsoofferthe"targetresponse"
(TS)curve.Thisfunctionmakesiteasiertodeterminewhichspeciesyouarelookingat.
ThisscreencaptureshowstheSimradES80setupforacloseinspectionofshcloseto
thebottom.Asmallschoolisplacedinthezoomwindow.Thecaptureiskindlyprovided
byAegeanElectronics,Greece.

readability,thedisplaymustbeprotectedfromglareandhavethecorrectheightandangle.
AnycommercialdisplaycanbeusedwiththeES80Widebandshndingechosounder,
providedthatthedisplaymeetstheminimumrequirements.
Youmaywishtoseemanyechogramchannelssimultaneously.Alargedisplaywithhigh
resolutionisthenuseful.TheES80softwaresupportsalldisplaysizes.Thevisualqualityof
theES80presentationdependsonthequalityofyourgraphicadapteranddisplay.
Note
ThedisplayisnotastandardpartoftheES80delivery.Thisisacommercialitemthat
canbepurchasedlocally.
Thechosendisplaymustbedesignedformaritimeuse,anditmustmeettheminimum
performancespecications.Youmustalsomakesurethatthechosendisplaysupports
thevideoformatsprovidedbytheProcessorUnit.KongsbergMaritimemayprovidea
suitabledisplay.

Manycomputershavetwovideoports.TwodisplayscanthereforebeusedtoseetheES80
presentations.Youcanplacethetwodisplaysnexttoeachother .Youcanalsochooseto
placetheseconddisplayatanotherlocationonthevessel.

ProcessorUnitdescription
TheProcessorUnitisthecomputerthatcontrolstheES80system.Itisavitalpartofthe
ES80Widebandshndingechosounder.TheProcessorUnitcontainstheoperational
software,andofferstheuserinterfacethatallowsyoutocontroltheES80.Furthermore,it
offersanumberofserialandEthernetlinesforcommunicationwithexternaldevices.Inthis
publication,thecomputerisreferredtoastheProcessorUnit.
ThecomputermustmeettheoperatingsystemrequirementsprovidedbyMicrosoft®.The
computermustalsoprovidethenecessaryinterfacefacilitiesthatyourES80needsto
communicatewithperipheralsystems.Thecomputermustbedesignedforruggeduse,and
theconstructionmustbeabletowithstandthevibrationsandmovementsofavessel.The
operatingsystemmustbeMicrosoft®Windows10.
AhighqualityEthernetadapterisrequired.IfyouwishtoconnecttheProcessorUnittothe
ship’snetwork,youneedtwoEthernetadapters.
TheProcessorUnitisnormallymountedonthebridge.
Note
TheEthernetadaptercommunicatingwiththeWidebandTransceiver(WBT)mustoffera
ReceiveBuffersfunction.Thisparametermustbesettoitsmaximumvalueifmorethan
oneWidebandTransceiver(WBT)isused.
TheProcessorUnitisnotastandardpartoftheES80delivery.Asuitablecomputermaybe
providedwiththeES80.TheProcessorUnitisdesignedforruggedmaritimeuse.Ithas
beencustomizedbyKongsbergMaritime.Exceptfromthefans,itcontainsnomoving
parts.Thecomputerisbasedonacommercialdesign,butthesoftwareandhardwarehave
beenspeciedbyKongsbergMaritimetosuittheES80requirements.Itissetupwithall
necessarysoftware.Consultyourlocaldealeroragentformoreinformation.
TheES80designsupportstwodisplays.Thiscanbeapracticalsolution.Youcanplace
thetwodisplaysnexttoeachother.Youcanalsochoosetoplacetheseconddisplayat
anotherlocationonthevessel.
