UltraTwin FreeSpan
!
UltraTwin FreeSpan is a freestanding rail system
specially designed to lift heavy patients in combination
with Likorall or Multirall lift motor.
UltraTwin FreeSpan is adjustable to four different
heights, and is available in 8 different rail lengths,
giving a total width ranging from 2 - 5,5 meters (79
- 217 inch.).
Equipped with locking handles on the lift rail,
FreeSpan can be widened a further 225 mm (8.9 in.)
in each corner.
UltraTwin FreeSpan can be lowered to the transport
position (1700 mm/66.9 inches) to simplify mounting
of the lift motor and/or moving the lift system to another
room.
UltraTwin FreeSpan has lockable wheels, is made of
aluminum and is, despite its light weight, extremely
stable.
UltraTwin FreeSpan complies with the requirements in
EN-ISO 10535 according to MDD 93/42/EEC.
CAUTION!
Carefully read these instructions and the instructions for the particular lifting accessory being used.
Lifting and transferring a person always presents a potential risk. It is essential to thoroughly understand the
content of these manuals, and that only trained persons use the equipment.
If you have questions, please contact Liko or your local Liko representative.
”Caution!” triangles are used to warn of situations that demand extra care and attention.
In this document, the person being lifted is referred to as the ”patient” and the person helping them is referred to
as the ”caregiver”.

Assembly instructions
3a) Slide the lift unit onto the longer carriage with
the emergency stop end in the opposite direction as
the carriage brake knob, as in the diagram above.
Afx the carriage in the outermost hole in the moun-
ting rail above the lift unit using the accompanying
M8 bolt and nut.
Mounting Likorall lift motor
3b) Slide on the shorter carriage from the other direc-
tion. Afx the carriage in the outermost hole in the
mounting rail above the lift unit using the accompany-
ing M8 bolt and nut.
Repeat 3a-3b with the other rail.
1. Fit both the rails to one of the uprights, as in the
diagram. Make sure the handle is facing outward.
Mount the upper locking handles that hold the rails
to the upright, and tighten.
Note that the upper locking handles lock the rail to
the uprights and may only be used when assemb-
ling or disassembling UltraTwin FreeSpan!
2. Repeat the above procedure with the other upright.
Make sure the handles are aligned lengthwise with the
uprights.
3. Mount the lift motor in the pre-mounted carriages. Note that UltraTwin FreeSpan is delivered with a carriage
specic for either Likorall or Multirall lift motors. For mounting with Multirall, see the instruction in the Multirall ins-
truction guide. Below is mounting of Likorall lift motor described.
Read instructions for the lift motor before use!
Before assembly, make sure that the uprights are locked in their lowest position and that the upper locking handles
have been removed from both uprights. Lock the wheels before assembly.
Before assembly, check that the following components are included:
• Uprights, 2 pcs. With wheels,
handles and locking handles (8 pcs.)
• Parking bracket, 2 pcs
• Rail with corners, end-stops
and carriage, 2 pcs
3. Adjustment of overall width
If you need to adjust the width of Freespan:
Loosen the locking handles on top of the lift rail and pull
the uprights out to the desired width (max 225 mm/8,9 in.
wider in each corner). Tighten the locking handles.
NOTE! The locking handles for adjusting
corners must not be dismounted from the
rail.

Mounting Ultra Control Unit
Slide the connection plate in place
on top of the liftmotors. Make sure
it fastens to the carriage.
Connect the cables from the distribu-
tor to both lift motors.
Note! The cable should be inserted in
the socket for the hand control (left).
Secure the plate to the carriages
with the bolt and sprint attached.
4. Raise the uprights to the rst
operating position (2250 mm).
5. Raise the uprights step by step.
One person moves the lift motors to
the other side of the rail, while the
other lifts the upright. Repeat the pro-
cedure until the freestanding system
has reached the desired height.
Battery charger
6. Finally, t the parking brackets
into the pre-mounted xtures on
the uprights.
The battery charger for Likorall or
Multirall can be mounted directly to
the upright via the pre-drilled M4
holes.
Ultra Control Unit (Likorall lift motor)
When using Likorall lift motor in UltraTwin Freespan with standard
width between the rails (see page 5), the Ultra Control Unit (prod.
no. 3126040) makes it possible to operate both lift motors with one
hand control.

Moving FreeSpan
UltraTwin FreeSpan is not to be moved with a patient in the lift!
FreeSpan can be moved when fully assembled with the lift unit, though not with the patient in the lift.
Release wheel locks and move FreeSpan to the desired location. If the lift is to be moved from one room
to another and the door opening is too low, FreeSpan can be lowered to its transport position (1700 mm/
66.9 inches). We recommend that two people move the lift.
For instructions how to lower UltraTwin FreeSpan, see page 6 and follow the points 4-5 in reverse order.
Helpful hint. Where door openings are narrower than
1240 mm (48.9 inches), move FreeSpan according to
the illustration (zigzag).
User's Guide
Caution! During use and during lifting operations, FreeSpan should be positioned so that the rail is always
directly over the patient's centre of gravity. Lifting at any angle away from the rail will affect stability negatively.
In the case of lifting a patient from a bed, this means that the rail should be aligned directly over the bed.
This applies both to transfers from the bed to the bedside and to a position near the foot of the bed.
Locking the wheels
FreeSpan’s wheels can be locked, if necessary.
Press down on the front wheel-locking lever with
your foot.
To release wheel lock, press the rear part of the
wheel-locking lever.
UltraTwin FreeSpan with one hand control
When using UltraTwin FreeSpan with standard width between the rails, both Likorall motors can be simultaneously
maneuvered with one hand control. Ultra Control Unit is required (prod. no. 3126040).
For instructions how to mount the control unit, see page 6. For more information, see Liko's Product List.
UltraTwin FreeSpan with UltraStretch for horizontal lifts
UltraTwin FreeSpan is available in a model especially designed for use with the horizontal stretcher, LikoUltraStret-
cher (prod. nr. 3156058). This model has the rails wider apart than the standard model (see F1-F2 on page 4).
Otherwise the rail systems are identical.
For mounting and instructions for use, see Instruction Guide for the stretcher being used.

Inspection and maintenance
To ensure trouble-free use, certain details should be inspected each day the lift is used.
• Inspect the lift system and check for signs of wear or external damage.
• Check carriage function and Quick Release Hook safety-catch function.
• Ensure that locking handles are securely tightened.
When necessary, clean the lift by wiping it with a damp cloth or waterbased surface disinfectants.
NOTE! Do not use cleaning agents that contain carbolic acid (phenol), chlorine or other
aggressive chemicals, since these may damage aluminium and plastic materials.
Regular scheduled inspection
UltraTwin FreeSpan must be inspected for wear and tear at least once a year, according to Liko’s service
instructions, by authorized Liko personnel.
IMPORTANT
Repairs and maintenance may only be done by authorized Liko personnel using original spare parts.
Storage
The lift system should be stored in temperatures above the freezing point and not above normal air
humidity (approx. 60 %).
